A group of 5 went there for all you can eat, before our«guys night out.» The service was horrendously slow. At one point I timed 25 minutes of waiting before we got our next plate of sushi(interesting that the rules to all you can eat specifically state it is an hour time limit). The chefs seemed to not care and I over head one of them ask the server, «they are still here?» Yes sir, we were. Despite your best attempt to get us to leave with shoddy service, we paid $ 30 and expect more than a couple rolls and a handful of sushi. It’s a shame, I love their Hawaiian roll, but it’s not good enough that I will continue to pay for crap service and attitude. Our server was fine, by the way, but she kept apologizing for the chefs. Since the refused to greet us as we left, this review ends here.

In my opinion it is the best reasonably priced sushi place out there. The main chef Eddie is great and the waitresses are nice. It can get busy and sometimes you’ll wait but Im at this place once a week.

I love this place! Happy to pay for FRESH fish. Eddie is the bomb! He knows what we want the second we walk through the door. I think I’ve tried all the other sushi places in the SCV and Matsu is hands down my favorite! My recommendations would be the Hawaiian roll, 911 roll, rainbow roll, Crunch roll, and Matsu hand roll… yum!

Amazing food. Excellent service. Ask them what’s fresh for the day, then order it. The albacore and salmon Fatty belly taste like butter.

I was craving good Sushi in the area and this place was recommended. It was one of the best sushi places I’ve been! Their sushi is so fresh, and sushi chef is AWESOME! Here they care about their quality food, and it is reflected in every bite of sushi I took.

I live in area I like sushi but only if its fresh. I noticed every time I drive by its busy. All I know is I gave it a shot. I showed up thirsty with a appetite and left full and buzzed for a great price(fyi)had a designated driver. Ask for Eddie, Cant wait to go back. Portions where a lil small but the price is right. If you’re one of those people that knows exactly what they want let them know they will accommodate you, don’t wait for them to ask you.

I live in Northern California, and this is my favorite sushi place of all time. Eddie has set the bar high, and has biased me toward any other place. I tell everyone to come here on their way down south. The sashimi is always fresh, the sauces are delicious, and it is a great value. Eddie is friendly and passionate about his art. You will not be disappointed!

Actually 3⁄5. Decided to come here with 2 of my other friends after raging at Six Flags. One was half awake and hangry. One was just confused and hungry. I was just thirsty for water. On the dinner menu it didn’t say if there was AYCE. We had to ask. So yes, $ 30 a pop. We started to write down what we want based on the dinner menu. Nope, there’s another menu for AYCE. Soups and salads not included in AYCE. Sad day. The rolls were pretty good except the salmon skin roll. It was totally doused with eel sauce or whatever that brown sweet sauce is. Kinda disappointed on that. As far as nigiris, they were totally fresh. I would probably come back here and try out their lunch menu.

Stopped by on the way back home from my trip to SF. Ordered Tropica Cucumber roll, BSC roll and Yellowtail sashimi. All the fish were fresh, and the rice was just cooked right. Service was friendly. Overall I was pretty satisfied.

Matsu is excellent, went last night, excellent service, Cindy the owner has won me over, Eddie the head sushi chef is the best A+++. They have the best fish in town, nothing even comes close. Great hot saki, cold beers, and again the best fish at an all you can eat price. Sit with Eddie at the bar, you can’t go wrong.

My friends and I think this is the best sushi place in the SCV! A hidden gem for sure. Yes, sometimes they can be a little slow but only if they are super crowded. Come here enough and they know you by your first name and give you free ice cream at the end of your meal. Be sure to try the Vegas Roll ! One of the best. Matsu is also very clean, which is nice !

First time here… I really like this place! The sushi chefs are cool. The food is great, the service is good and fast. The fish tastes fresh and the portions are good! Seems like they’ve got their regulars which is always a good sign in any restaurant, especially a sushi restaurant!

I don’t care what others may comment. For me Matsu Sushi is one of the best sushi places around in terms of food, service and accommodation. Their price is about average but their portions are big. You have to sit at the bar to really enjoy this place. The sushi chefs are Eddie, Jimmy, Tony, and the latest addition is Raymond. They will all try their best to make you the sushi you like and they will tell you if they have specials. Eddie is my usual chef. He will alter some of their rolls to my liking. I would sometimes ask him to surprise me and he will make me an «unbelievable» temaki or nigiri. He jokes around with his customers and makes them feel welcome and at ease. Yes I will definitely keep coming back.

My co-workers and I visit Matsu about once a week for lunch because it’s close to work and almost never crowded. The sushi is pretty good. The 911, Hot Night and California Tempura rolls never disappoint. On the other hand, The edamame is cold, pre-portioned and sitting out in the bowls by the soda fountain. It’s not the best food I’ve ever had but I’ve also never had anything awful either. The service is on the bad side though. There’s almost always a mistake with something we order or with the check. The service can get super slow and we ALWAYS have to flag someone down to get our check. However, the servers and sushi chefs are very nice and willing to correct each(inevitable) mistake. 3 stars for pretty decent food, average prices and nice staff.
