The gallery was exquisite and quite captivating. I’m a huge pin-up fan, as is my husband. I also love the retro feel and the amazingly vast amount of items, from old radios to original works of pin-up art. It was nice to see the collection, and we were given the grand tour. The one drawback was the amount of pressure from the owner to buy something now. He certainly wasn’t interested in developing a relationship that would be prosperous for him over time, as I’m a collector. The visit was tainted with the«used car salesman» approach. And, frankly, it was a huge turn-off. GO here to see some great things and learn a lot about the history of pin-ups. But, these folks need to learn about how to sell in a way that won’t make people want to turn and run.

We stumbled across this gallery while walking around Carmel. We were drawn in by the pin-ups in the windows and the bubbles from a bubble machine just outside the front door. We walked in and were greeted by a really nice guy, who also turned out to run the place and was responsible for much of the artwork in the gallery. A nice lady working there suggested taking a look at a few albums with prints that we could bring home with us the same day. We found 3 we liked and he gave us the third for free! Mr. Vancas sat down with us after making our choices and gave us the backstory on a picture we had chosen which added a whole new depth to our choice… that was really fun. I can’t wait to explain the meaning behind the picture to the first person who notices it in our home. When we mentioned that we are less than 6 months from getting married, Mr. Vancas let us know that he offers personlized pin-up style artwork, which would be an awesome wedding present. As we paid for our pictures and a neat book on the Beatles, Mr. Vancas handed us a bottle of wine and congratulated us on our engagement! Even the wine had a backstory as the label was done by a friend of his who illustrates childrens books. Really top notch, I’m so glad we happened upon this gallery!

It is an honor and indeed our pleasure to own exquisite works of Art by Daniel Vancas of the Vanguard Gallery. Mr. Vancas’ art is now on display in several of our Mid-Atlantic offices and guest lodgings. His works of art never fail to bring high praise from world wide visitors, clients and guests. Mr. Vancas’ passion, mastery and knowledge for majestic works of art, art deco onward to the 60s, becomes very apparent while speaking to this fine gentleman. We were honored at the gracious manner of Mr. Vancas and his colleagues in arranging personal service and delivery of our orders. Vanguard Gallery is absolutely magnificent in every way and a must see when visiting Carmel, CA. We consider Mr. Vancas to be among the finest artist in his genre today.

The man who owns this place is astonishingly rude. His cold insensitivity was so guided and repugnant that it caused my girlfriend to break into tears. Purchase your deco and pin-up from a different gallery and from someone who embodies the spirit of the era. You’ll enjoy your purchase more when it comes from a pleasant person.
