I got a half order of Carne Asada fries on Friday seemed real small for a half order. Other than that everything was good.

Please, please, please, just go somewhere else. I eat Mexican food at least three times a week, and I can count on one hand the amount of times I have received something unedible. This place is incredibly bad. I ordered a California burrito, my wife ordered bean and cheese. Both were COLD. Not like, «oh no, the cheese didn’t melt!» cold, but like«was this in a refrigerator?» The bean and cheese wasn’t awful, and we ended up sharing it because the California tasted like dirty lettuce. Please trust me, don’t eat here.

I’ve been coming here since they opened and even now that I live in east county I still stop by every time I’m in the area. Best shrimp burrito in north county!

Very big menu with plenty of options. Food is always good and tasty. I recommend — California Burrito –Carne Asada Fries –Rolled Tacos with Guac The prices are fair for the portions and they have a Salsa Bar– you can’t go wrong!

It’s fine. There are so many places I would choose first. Nobody received melted cheese in our party! How do you get nachos with no melted cheese??? Maybe an off night?

Finding a good Mexican place was not on the agenda on New Year’s Eve. On our way to see Star Wars my GF and I thought we’d Sushi. The wait was longer than we had to make the movie so we chose Mexico Viejo. It was quite busy as we all wanted to stay dry from the rain. Busy is good though. The place was clean and smelled of good food. The staff is friendly and prompt. Carne Asada and Chicken Burritos with Sodas were in order. The Salsa Bar was clean, had a good selection, and the Salsa was good. I ordered my Carne Asada Burrito with Cheese and Sour Cream. The Meat was delicious, the proper cut for Carne Asada, grilled nicely. The Pico de Gallo was fresh and flavorful. The Guacamole was great!!! I was impressed!!! My GF liked her Chicken Burrito, she said was really tasty. So, the very next night my GF asked me to stop at Mexico Viejo for take out. She ordered the Pollo Asado with everything. This was even better. I ordered 5 Rolled Tacos w/Guacamole and Cheese and a Chile Relleno Burrito. The Rolled Tacos were crunchy, but the Guacamole and Cheese on top were the STAR!!! The Chile Relleno was made with a Poblano and was awesome!!! All in all, Mexico Viejo is a WINNER!!!

I have to say this is the first time I have eaten here in a very long time. My GF suggested we go get their Shrimp Soup(caldo camarones) since it is cold and rainy out and I wanted soup. So we decided to trek over to Encinitas from Del Mar. It was pretty busy I have to say and everyone in there was Mexican. A great sign. Their burritos looked amazing, but I told myself we were there for soup! It was ready in 5 mins, they have a great salsa bar, the perfectly hot carrots and jalapenos, they also have sliced cucumbers which was nice, I have never seen that before and very refreshing when eating spicy food. They serve hot and mild verde chili as well as two types of red chili salsa. To go container and bag necessary. The shrimp were those small shrimps and a bit stringy. There was also a bit of fish in there as well as cabbage, carrot, potato, onion and spices. Very flavorful, not spicy so you can make it as hot as you like. They serve it with tortillas, corn or flour. If you order flour, you get this fat roll of them! Maybe it’s one gigantic one but it is a lot. We also asked them to put the rice on the side and they give you this little container of it which is nice. Lot small but you can park in front if there is a space. Close to Dairy Queen. Nice change on a rainy day. I may go back if I crave a burrito!

This is a great taco shop. They don’t really have a lot of vegetarian options but my husband loves the chicken carne asada burrito. I was not fond of the chili relleno since it was mostly breading so I order the vegetarian burrito which is good. Service is mediocre. I recommend going in to order instead of calling it in since the order is rarely ready when you show up. It’s like they wait for you to show up before they make your food. They have some of the hottest peppers I’ve had in a while so if you like spicy be sure to get some peppers They don’t take American Express. FYI.

This Mexico Viejo is the best one in north county. I highly recommend getting what I get: California Burrito with carnitas sour cream guacamole and no salsa Fresca. I noticed a review of one star by some guy on here saying that they are never open. I’m sitting at the location as I write this next to the sign and every day they are open from 8am to 1030pm. The hours are also posted correctly on Unilocal. The woman who works here every day is awesome and very friendly. They deserve all 5 stars.

Legit 5 stars for this restaurant. The prices are right alongside the portion size. I love this place. I wish I could take it home with me. I had their huevos rancheros and I got a giant portion for like $ 6. I got a burrito sized flour tortilla on the side. Taste was great. Friends all loved their food. I don’t think they make their own salsa because I saw some jugs of what looked to be premade salsa in the back. But it was still good premade. They have pickled carrots and fresh cucumber slices at the salsa bar too. This place is bookmarked.

I don’t understand this place. Every time I go here they are closed. The hours they list online and on their window are never accurate. Do they want my burrito money or what? Makes no sense to me.

Best Mexican food in Carlsbad hands down. Their chorizo is always fresh and not greasy! Breakfast burritos are amazing. Been going for just over a year now and they never disappoint. They tend to lag a little so if you’re in a hurry just call it in. Salsa bar is always clean and not ransacked lol. Ok go.

Alright here we are again at another order at the counter Mexican joint in San Diego county… therefore you need to know what to order since all are a dime a dozen and specialize in different things. You order the wrong thing and it will ruin your whole experience at some of these places. Here…the carne asada is JACKPOT! I don’t even want to know what you order that tender meat morsels with, but make it a carne asada because all of their locations make da carne asada goodness. Okay okay… if not you… someone in your group must order a carne asada frie or California burrito(guacamole, no sour cream)…I kid you NOT… these two make a dynamic duo like Shaq and Kobe or Jordan and Pippen… no joke one of the best… if not the BEST I’ve ever had(and I’ve been to waaaaaay too many places).

I used to love this place. When they first opened, their burritos were consistently tasty and probably one of the best I’ve had at only a little over 3 bucks for a carne asada burrito. Now, I’d say the past 3 years, they doubled their prices(over 6 bucks for one burrito!) and the quality of food went down and doesn’t taste as good as it used to. Bummer, I really liked this place since it was soo close to home and work.

This place is good. The combo plates are plentiful, but I was just a little disappointed with the chicken burrito. I thought it had all the fixings but it was just chicken. It was good but I wish it had a bit more. Other than that I look forward to trying other items some reviewers suggested. The place is clean and the salsa is good too. It gets busy which is cool because that’s when you know it’s a good place to go.

Great Mexican food. I was born and raised in Southern California. Nothing beats a California burrito with a full salsa bar. Cashiers are friendly and the cooks never leave you unsatisfied. Although this isn’t my go to burrito stop, they still deserve the 5 stars. Most places I go to don’t have Adobada but Viejo does. Overall, just a really good, classic Mexican food stop in North County.

The California burrito is pretty good here, the chips are very good. The guacamole is not good, it tasted very frozen, yuck! Salsa wasn’t chunky enough for me, it was more like hot sauce. I would visit again, but I wouldn’t order the guac, waste of money!

Solid 3.5 Man this place is a mad house on Saturday! Just kept hearing breakfast burrito, breakfast burrito ! Well most people would have ordered the breakfast burrito at that point but i’m no sheep and I ordered, a carne asada burrito and 3 rolled tacos. Living on the edge. I could almost see the kitchen come to a screeching halt! Cook looked out the window who in the hell didn’t order a breakfast burrito at 11 am? To pass the time I hit up there salsa bar 4 types, chunky, red mild, a brilliant orange and red hot, carrots too. The food here brought me back to the burrito shops of my high school days, ahh the memories. The rolled tacos cooked to crispy perfection, slathered with pure 100% gauc, 2 types of shredded cheese yellow and white.( ) Next the long slender carne burrito, inside just carne, pure gauc, and pico. I love gauc but man there was a lot inside this thing !( ) Great 90’s traditional burrito and rolled tacos, heavy on the gauc and extra hot salsa’s. O yeah, not that I ordered one but, I heard people really like the breakfast burritos here !!!
