I’ve really enjoyed myself every time that I’ve been to Cava. The staff is super friendly, and it’s a very cool environment. Great location and great wine! I can’t wait to go back.

Small wine bar in a downtown Capitola mall. They make the most of a funky layout, managing to get a music area, flatscreen TV(bowl games were on the day we visited), a bar, a couple of tables and leather sofas. Others have complained about this, but we were very happy with the wine selection and the prices. They have several different tasting flights, which seems to be the way to go there. My wife wanted a champagne flight. Curiously, since it was New Years Eve and they are named after Spanish sparkling wines, you’d think that a champagne flight would be front and center. But we didn’t see one, and had to ask for it off the menu. Shrug… go figure. But it was well worth the asking, reasonably priced and tasty. They have a generous cheese plate that was a good pairing with the flight. All considered, a nice spot for a quiet break in downtown Capitola.

I had two rather pricey glasses of wine here recently & got horribly sick afterwards. Not a hangover. No headache. Just all over bad reaction, like I had been exposed to something toxic. I felt awful & spent the whole day in bed. I still feel a bit woozy & no, my drink was poured right in front of me & I watched it the whole time so it was no spiked with anything. I’m frankly, afraid to go back:(

Great little wine bar and very low key. They had a live guitar player who was really good. We ordered food from the place next door which was a cool partnership. We also ordered a cheese plate which included candied pecans made by the wine tender. Her and the other woman behind the bar were extremely nice and knowledgeable. We shared the bubbly flight and ended up getting 2 bottles of the Spanish bubbly for half price because of a Thursday special. We also had a Russian River Pinot which was really good. They poured another for us to taste and didn’t like it as much so we went with the RR. Great experience and we’ll be back.

Comfortable spot with a nice mix of wine n’ beer that also has a trivia night with questions so difficult that I felt like an absolute buffoon and have felt like a lesser human being mentally ever since. But other than that, GREATJOINT!

I have a soft place in my heart for wine bars. This was the first place we came to on our girls trip and it was a blast! They had a singer named Christopher there and he was wonderful! Really made the venue a blast for us(they should have him all the time!)! It was the 3 of us and we got 2 flights and shared the different tastings. Once we picked what she liked, we each got a glass… Yum! My fave was the Grenache! Then they have the option to get food– now this is pretty cool… There’s a restaurant next door(an Italian place) and they will cook from their menu and bring it over to you! Super rad. We had ordered the margarita pizza and the gnocchi! Highly recommend both of these. We also ordered a bottle of the merlot, we were having a super great time! The staff is kind. The only thing I would say they could work on, is to get one more person in there to help. I felt like the service wasn’t perfect. The guy who helped us was as nice as can be and was never rude! We just had to go to him at the bar every time we wanted something, however he would bring our stuff directly to our table. But I will leave my review 5 starts because this place was super rad. Loved it!

This place is fantastic and a hidden gem. They have everything you could want from snacks, a full menu from Caruso’s next door which will bring you food right to the bar and a fabulous wine, beer and bubbly selection. Not to mention the staff is super friendly and attentive. Live music is perfect for the venue. Love this place!!!

Zander is an awesome wine bar asset to this business. He kept us there most of the evening with great wine and helped us with our plans for the eve. We had a great evening in town! Thank you Zander!

An interesting night at Cava. Had wine here many times before, but tonight we go the most outrages service and some nasty wine. The server was very slow and terribly rude(my wife said«He’s got issues»). My wife ordered a nice chard and I ordered a flight of two pinot noirs and a blend. Server pours the wines and slides them to me telling me two of the wines have been replaced. The two new wines are nothing like pinot, one was actually a pinot but tasted like battery acid. Took me a least 10 minutes to get his attention to tell him the one wine tasted corked or like it had been open for a few days. He acted pissed. He opened something completely different again and gave it to me explaining that this new wine is a grape that is what pinot makes are trying to aspire to, NOT. It was just drinkable. After about 20 minutes he brought me a glass of the same pinot he’d added to the flight, but from a new bottle, it was still nasty. Tried to tell me people are coming in just for that wine. Hard to believe. Overall, I felt the wines I had were weak if not nasty and the service was atrocious.

In spite of the mediocre and even clunky design of their space Cava still manages to be an inviting and comfortable place. However the server on this Sunday was not as friendly or inviting as say what you would expect at, as an example, the wine bar on the Santa Cruz wharf. A big part of going to a wine bar in my opinion is the fun of learning about wines from someone who is competent and enthusiastic about wine. To be clear I am not reporting bad service, just average service, which on this case is the same as I am not in a hurry to return anytime soon.

The live music was nothing special, and the glass of red was mediocre for the price.

This place is pretty cool, right downtown Capitola. Been there a few times now, the selection is cool, great wines and bubbly. Staff is friendly and they have great suggestions.

Wine bars are always fun and Cava is no exception. It’s small and cozy and staff is friendly. Where I’d like to see improvement is in sound quality when they have live music — the volume should be suitable to the size of the venue. Our conversation with the server standing 8-inches away shouldn’t be, «I’ll try the pinot.» «The what?» «What did you say?» «I’m sorry, what?» Also, the last couple of times we were at Cava, there were some serious inebriates. The worst — obviously loud, obnoxious and a bit combative(and those were the ladies) were still receiving large pours from staff. On one hand, this was like watching a bad but amusing MTV reality show, but on the other hand, these folks didn’t walk to Cava and unless their chauffeur was parked outside, these people were likely getting behind the wheel of a car. Staff should learn when and how to cut off drunks.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and the place seem kinda dead but I liked it. Our waiter was cool. We got the cava cheese plate and it was a great amount of everything on there and also a bottle of the Pierre sparr Pinot blanc, which was a great choice so all in all, I would come back when I’m in the area.

Cava Wine Bar is under new ownership. I think the remodel looks awesome and they still have fantastic wine, great service, and sometimes they have fun live music. Great place Congrats to you all

Stopped by here on a Saturday night. I was surprised at how uncrowded it was for a wonderful spot. It’s got a very chill vibe to it. Good wine, relaxing vibe, kind people. The woman at the bar was easy to talk to and gave wonderful recommendations. She even said we could bring food into the bar. Only bummer was there was a band playing, and as the place is on the smaller side, the sound fills up the space, so it was rather loud. But I would definitely go back.

Nice place with friendly staff. Fun interesting wines to try, and their cheese plate is TOO yummy(triple cream brie, candied pecans, crackers, raspberry preserves, 2 types of salumi). The only negative is there is not a dedicated bathroom. There is a one-room restroom which seems to be shared by the entire building — and it is a pretty sad, bordering on gross, restroom. It looks like it rarely gets cleaned. If you don’t stay too long or drink too much they you can probably avoid the restroom altogether ;) Overall I’d recommend the wine bar and would probably visit again next time I’m in the area.

This is an artistic cozy little wine bar that fits just right in the town of Capitola. I was pleased with the friendly and personable service. I came here on an early Friday afternoon and didn’t have too much time to spend in Capitola so I didn’t get a chance to do any tasting. I had a glass of Sauvignon blanc while chilling in the couch area which was quite nice. This place is a definite come back for me to taste some of the local wines I didn’t get to try the first time.

Love this place for a mellow evening as a date or with the girls. The owner is knowledgeable(and cute, always helpful for girls’ night out). They have some kind of French olives that are house marinated that I love(I’m not a cheese person). The ambiance can change from night to night, but is pretty much always enjoyable. I like the fact that I can get custom flights and tastings based off which ones I know that I like, which makes buying easy– I take a few suggestions and usually buy one or three bottles of the one I like best.

Wine bar, with a beachy swag! Being a planner at heart, I made sure to make a pseudo appointment for our party of 10 coming in on a Saturday. As we staggered over, after a long and happy visit at It’s Wine Tyme, we made it to Cava. Only one person at the bar, who happened to be the employees boyfriend, otherwise completely empty. They had a huge table, adorned with«reserved» signs for us, but the comfy couches were calling our name. Although we appreciated the VIP status, we were looking for comfort and some relaxation. The employee, bless her heart, I cannot remember her name — was totally okay with it and let us do our thang. So, as it seems to be in the village — 3 tastings go for about $ 12. However, when we were rang up, she charged us $ 13 each. I understand its only $ 1, maybe it is their way of taxing us, it was annoying but not enough for me to call her out on it. We all went with random tasting, so she poured everyone a different varietal, none were the same. So instead of sticking with just three tastings, we shared all of them — which was glorious. This was good and bad. Good because we were able to taste a plethora of their selection, which is huge. Bad because we had no idea what we were tasting. She brought them all over and just walked away — no insight, no direction, no education. She was canoodling with her man for awhile, which we didn’t really care. It got a little weird when they went behind a partition, but whatevs. Inappropriate yes, but we didn’t really care because we were in a fuzzy, wine induced haze! Not quite the experience we had at the previous place, but a different good. A little more relaxing and doing our own thang, but definitely more pricey. Laid back style, but boughie pricing!
