Found this place looking through the Cool Cape May book left in our room. It’s June, it’s a Saturday, it’s Father’s Day weekend. We figured anything in Cape May proper would be too crowded so let’s take the 10 minute drive over here. From the outside, I was nervous, it doesn’t look that appealing but once you get inside, you will be pleasantly surprised. It’s very beach with white washed type wood floors and paneling, wooden whale décor, a fireplace and open kitchen. It is very noisy though. We started with the pizza which was pretty good but salty. I had the most delicious scallops there. One of the best made scallop dishes ever. My fiancé had the lobster mac and cheese which was good. My four year old had the spaghetti and meatballs, also good. My only complaints were really service and how quickly the food came out. No sooner did we place the order my daughter’s food came out within three minutes. That’s fine, but we were still eating our appetizer when the entrees came out and we are not slow eaters. When we were done with dinner, our waitress promptly brought our check, never asking about dessert. Then she saw the puzzled look on our faces and asked if we wanted dessert. It was very limited so we passed(maybe 4 or 5 choices and they didn’t have one). We definitely felt rushed. Waitress also had no idea about the drink special that was not listed on menu BUT was posted on their Facebook page the DAYBEFORE encouraging people to come in and try this drink special. She said if it’s not on menu we don’t have it. Never offered to ask bartender. I will say the drink I got, some strawberry rum drink was the special that night, I was unaware, but happy to see it was five bucks. We would definitely go back but they need to improve service and timing.

I had this place bookmarked for 6+ months. It’s not near the beach and is about 4 – 5 miles outside but it’s worth the drive. Their menu is America/pubish — apps(wings, sliders, nachos, etc), burgers, cheesesteaks, salads, entrees(lobster m&c, crab cakes, salmon, etc) brick oven pizza, beer, wine and mixed drinks. The bar area is small but there is a good amount of table seating. We went at around 1:30 on an weekday afternoon and it wasn’t busy. The hostess was our server. 12 beers on tap, 15+ bottle selection and several wine options. We decided on just a sandwich each: Cuban Torta(roast pork, bacon, avocado, cheddar, mozz and habanero crema) for me AND The Rajun Cajun(replaced the burger w/grilled chicken, house slaw, swiss and Russian dressing) for the Mrs. The sandwiches were overstuffed! So much so 1 sandwich can be enough for 2 people. We boxed up half of each. Their fries were a bit over cooked but still enjoyable. They have an impressive happy hour selection. Prices are reasonable. Overall a good experience. ENJOY!

After visiting this restaurant for two summers in a row, today a local told me why it’s called Five West. It’s 5 miles west from their other restaurant in Cape May. I Can’t authenticate it’s accuracy but if it’s true, it’s pretty cool. Regardless I’ll keep coming back many times in summer because it’s just a really cool place to eat or meet a friend for a drink. I’ve tried over 50% of the menu some items multiple times and everything has been fantastic. But my absolute favorite is the South Philly meatball appetizer. It’s just like an old South Philly Grandmother would make. You get 2 Huge meatballs and I mean huge that are made from beef pork and veal topped with marinara and ricotta cheese. Sometimes when I go in just for lunch this is plenty enough for a meal. The cocktails that we’ve had there have all been good and reasonably priced. Inside the décor is warm and inviting and the service is always good.

Food is pretty great and large portions! Pub/bar/“american” food-burger is great. Love the Jersey salad, too. But, its TOONOISY — because of the large space, things echo and the noise bounces around. They need some artwork on the walls, not only to brighten up the décor, but the absorb some of that sound. Just a suggestion, 5 West Pub! Although its noisy, I’ll still be back!

Everything I’ve had here is delicious. The atmosphere is a little awkward at times but I still really love their cheese steaks and their hand cut fries are yum! Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Never had anything else but I’ve heard great things about the rest of the menu!

We love the food. The wings are meaty and they don’t skimp on the Buffalo sauce or the blue cheese. My kid loves the chicken fritters and fries. They are crispy and not soggy at all. The day of the week specials are great. Sunday half price wings! Come on that’s perfect with a $ 2 draft. $ 10 bucks and your out.

Despite not being a huge fan of the sports bar atmosphere, I had eaten at 5 West on two occasions and enjoyed my food. Because of this, I decided to order their barbecue shrimp pizza for takeout. The description for the pizza is «house barbecue sauce, sauté shrimp, shredded mozzarella and cheddar.» The pizza I received was basically inedible. Nevermind the fact that there was only one piece of shrimp on each slice. There was literally no barbecue sauce on the entire pizza — just cheese melted on dry crust with a piece of shrimp on top. The entire box was soaked in grease. It was actually so profuse that it started to form a pool around the pizza. Even after soaking as much as I could with a paper towel, the entire thing just tasted like grease. I am not picky; I usually deal with what I order from a restaurant. However, this was so gross I decided to ask for my money back. The hostess tried to explain that the pizza was«supposed to be that way» and that the non-existent barbecue sauce was purposely«light and buttery.» They deliberated in the back over whether I could get a refund while the chef gave a death glare from the kitchen. Thankfully, they did give my money back. Nobody ever apologized for any of the number of things that was wrong with the order. I would have received better product and friendlier customer service from Dominos. Just saying.

This is a local spot to come and hang out, have a few drinks, eat some good food and just have a plain old good time. The setting is nice but could be tweaked. The back room is way way too bright and clearly needs some redesigning just to give it some more atmosphere. And I do think that is important in a restaurant as much as food & service! The bar area and front dining area are much more welcoming but still a bit cold and sterile. I wish this part of the restaurant would change but it has not at all over the years. As to service and food, it was excellent this evening. Our waitress was exceptional and very very accommodating. We sat and had dinner. I had a Cobb burger and replaced the bacon with sauteed mushrooms. It was prepared in an excellent way and presented beautifully. I added an egg to it as well which really brought out the flavors. My friend had the BBQ burger with a bourbon sauce and onion rings. She could not rave more about it. I had a sangria tonight which was made in house and tasted exceptional. The beer list highly lacks in availability of craft beers… very boring & not so great. Could definitely use major improvement here. As the restaurant was pretty crowded, we moved over to the bar fter dinner so they could reseat the next guests and was attended to by Stephanie the bartender. We continued by having liqoured coffees with Frangelica & Kahlua. Delicious. The bartender was exceptionally friendly. Service tonight was superb! They just have to work on that atmosphere thing. It’s not bad. It’s just missing something.

Lunch and dinner, or just cocktails and appetizers, this is the best spot in North Cape May and beyond! Clean, friendly and great happy hour(3 – 6PM)! The staff is great and very able to make your visit a terrific experience! At the bar is Tim, a world class bartender and mixologist days Tue-Sat. He along with all the bar staff are most capable in making your stop a most enjoyable time! Large menu with excellent seafood and meat choices with reasonable prices have us stopping in here on a regular basis! Call ahead as sometimes very, very busy at dinner time, but worth the wait if you just stop in!

Spent a week, off season, in N. Cape May and decided to check out this little pub a few blocks from where I was staying. A comfortable, clean atmosphere with a good beer selection and typical pub menu. I closed out four of the seven nights I was in Cape May at the 5 West and on my final night I decided to do a full dinner there. I went with the cajun scallops selection served with sauteed spinach over rice. The kitchen staff did a real nice job with it. Delicious. What really impressed me about the place over the course of my stay was the 2 bartenders I dealt with during the week. The bartenders are the face of a business like this and a good one can make all the difference in your decision as to whether or not you’re going to become a regular at a place like this. Both Alycia and Nicole were a true joy to deal with. Very warm, friendly and professional. Both made me feel like a long term regular though I was quite the newby to the place. Kudos to both these ladies. You can’t go wrong with them. I’m looking forward to my next trip to Cape May and my next visit to the 5 West.

This restaurant had an open kitchen. I had the Crab cake tacos– loved it. My friend had the Flounder Piccata– it was good except the rice tasted like day old rice. Service was good. Parking was scarce. We had to park on the grass.

Best burger ever. Cobb Burger. Also you need to get the tater tots as the app. We have come here several times and have yet to have a bad meal. I recommend eating at the bar. Our bartender Nicole was great

Best bartender on the island. Brought my hubby in for the Cuban sandwich. My favorite and the best pulled pork I have ever had. I dream of the sandwich and can’t wait to go back.

Was in the Cape May Area and consulted Unilocal and came across this beauty. So good! Got the tots covered in everything… aamazing! Perfect mix of crispy and soft. I got the pulled pork pizza which for the price of $ 10-$ 11 was totally worth it… I took most of it home and ate it for breakfast. It was delicious!

Ok so, my sister and I were in the area at Cape May Brewing and we wanted to grab a bite to eat before driving home. What to do? Of course, consult Unilocal! Came here and was a little put off by the exterior of the building. It looks like a strip club meshed with an old wawa. However, once we stepped inside, we were truly impressed. This place has a very city like vibe inside. The hostess was polite and we were seated quickly. We ordered the Tots(#2 — with bacon, sour cream & whiz). For entrees — holy cow. I opted for the chicken Gorgonzola pizza. It has buffalo sauce on it, also. I liked it but it was very cheesy. My sister got the pulled pork pizza. If I had to pick over again, I probably would’ve ordered the pulled pork pizza just because it was seriously heavenly. The restroom was clean and our waitress was very nice. I removed one star because there were a few flies that kept buzzing around our table. Other than that, this place is definitely worth checking out. They also have a full bar.

I was on a mini-vacation in Cape May last week with my boyfriend and his family, and on a cold, wet Tuesday afternoon(06⁄02), we decided to find a place that served good grub. 5 West Pub was our second choice, since the original restaurant we set our sights on was closed. The hostess seemed to know in advance we were a large group(13 of us total) and she placed us in a side room so we wouldn’t distract the other diners. Our server, Stephanie, was incredibly friendly and patient with everyone, particularly the kids. Since it was Restaurant Week, I decided to order one of their specials from their Restaurant Week lunch menu: crab cake tacos, served with pepper mayo, avocado slices, shredded slaw, and tomato relish. The meal came with your choice of side dish, so I decided to be slightly healthy and went for the salad with a light lemon vinaigrette dressing. For my beverage, I chose a pomegranate martini, which I quickly discovered had to be sipped slowly(it was delicious, but strong). When the tacos came out, I was shocked at their size: two huge, well-stuffed tacos overflowing with jumbo lump crab meat. I almost couldn’t finish them, but they were so good I had to keep eating them. The crab meat was tender and sweet, and the chipotle mayo gave it a hint of spice. The salad was fresh and contained a nice mix of colorful lettuces: red leaf, romaine, arugula, etc. I always judge the quality of a salad based on how diverse the leafy greens are on the plate. If I see too much iceberg lettuce(or if the salad is 100% iceberg lettuce), then I don’t bother eating it. 5 West Pub knows how to make a good salad. And the lemon vinaigrette dressing was just enough to give it a nice, tangy taste. I didn’t think I was hungry enough for dessert, but I felt it was my duty to at least try the key lime pie on the Restaurant Week menu. This was one of the best key lime pies I’ve had in a long time: a generous slice of pie with a smooth, creamy texture, graham cracker crust, with fresh whipped cream on the side. Remember when I said I didn’t think I was hungry enough for dessert? I lied. I ate the entire thing in less than 3 minutes. If everything was excellent, then why the 4-star rating? Two words: climate control. It was freezing inside, and even though the pomegranate martini and the food helped stimulate blood flow to my extremities, I kept my jacket on throughout the meal. I understand that temperatures at the Jersey shore can get fairly hot, but on a 55-degree day, the air conditioner should not be turned on. Just saying. That being said, I want to come back here the next time I come to Cape May. I noticed Lobster Mac & Cheese on their list of entrees and I’d like to know how that would feel in my tummy.

This restaurant definitely has a pub atmosphere. Tons of people at the bar and it is definitely loud. Lots of TVs broadcasting different sports and one with the food network channel on, yay! The space is modern and clean with an open kitchen. The staff and service were fast and friendly. If you come on a Friday night, be ready to wait for a table for at least 20 – 30 mins. Our server was Heather and she did a fantastic job! Very attentive, fast, and friendly. This is what we had for dinner: Clam chowder — meh, the flavors were subtle and light. The soup wasn’t piping hot. The little chunks of potato were not cooked through and there were tiny pieces of clams. Make sure you add a squeeze of lemon to the chowder to liven up the flavors. They didn’t have Tabasco… what?! Crab nachos — I was skeptical about this dish, but boy was I wrong! The pieces of crab were fresh and sweet. The pepper mayo and wasabi cream sauce was flavorful and added the perfect amount of zing. Their nacho chips are fried in house and they were crisp and fresh w/no funky fryer taste. YUM! Popeye pizza — I ordered this one bc of the reviews I read on Unilocal. It’s definitely not robust in flavor, but I must admit that their pizza dough is legit. Flavorful, chewy, and crispy. I did squeeze some lemon all over the pizza which helped brighten up this dish. I would highly recommend adding shrimp or clams or some sort of meat onto this pizza. It’s Lenten season so I opted for the straight up veggie version. Clams & macaroni — overall this pasta dish is good. Tons of garlic and a good amount of clams. A squeeze of lemon definitely does the trick in highlighting the sweetness of the clams. Side salad w house made balsamic vinaigrette — it was very overdressed which made it undesirable to eat. Make sure you get the dressing on the side. Overall, I would definitely come back to try their other dishes and pizzas. Their pizza crust was delicious and the service is fast. I witnessed almost every table ordering a plate of loaded fries which means they must be yummy. Oh and they have happy hour all day on Sunday’s!
