The staff is nice and the food is prepared quickly. That’s all that can be said for pros. I ordered a half pint of chicken fried rice which cost 5 bucks, a little high, but I figured the food would at least be decent. What I revived was literally oil, rice, and tofu. No garlic, no eggs, no onion, no sprouts, no salt, no pepper, no chicken. I feel like the only person who would like this place is my grandma.

I recently decided to try this place instead of my usual kitten and rice provider. No bad, but not the high quality I am used to. I still go here considering it is across the street and my usual place is a 5 minute drive. The chicken and broccoli needs more brown sauce. They must be hoarding it away for the next recession.

As far as Chinese take out goes this place kills it! I love the sesame chicken combo plate! It cost about 9 bucks but includes pork fried rice and an egg roll. There is so much food I usually never finish or have trouble doing so. I have also had the Sweet and sour chicken which is equally as good! The place could use a little cleaning and updating but, its take out… the kitchen is open and looks clean, from the counter. The customer service is always decent and my food is always done with in 10 minutes which is great because its right down the street! The only thing I must say I find annoying is, they don’t take credit cards! They used too, but they suddenly stopped? not sure what’s up with that. I switched to Chinese Kitchen(Elmwood and North) for a while because of this, until I found out they were serving maggots in the fried rice: p ! So I guess a stop at the ATM before hand it worth it! Keep it going Great Wall!

I am so disappointed in myself. I need to start listening to what others say about particular restaurants because my brain told me NO but my heart was like GO. Looked up the hours for this place and saw they stayed open until 11 pm on weeknights. Fantastic, it was 10:20, I still had time. When I called, the woman on the other end of the line said, «Hello we are closing, how far away are you.» I kid you not. So, I said, I am half a mile down the street I can be there very shortly. She said, «Okay what do you want.» I asked for a small order of steamed chicken and broccoli, to which she replied, «Okay it is ready right now, come right now.» Amazing! I had never been to Great Wall before but they were somehow able to use their telepathic skills to prepare my order before I even ordered it. Anyways, four minutes later I arrived and the place was empty but people were calling in orders while I was waiting for my food. The inside needs work, it is filthy. The refrigerator, clearly visible to anyone who walks up to the counter, is covered in hardened dirt from top to bottom. I can only imagine what the inside looks like. The floors were dirty and interior run down in general. They had paper menus hanging that had seen better days. I thought about not following through with my pick up order but just as I thought about walking out, I saw that my food was being put in a bag. Again, I ordered a small, so it was in a teeny pint container… steamed chicken and broccoli, no sauce or anything. $ 7!!! I thought maybe $ 4 and change, I was very surprised by the price, there was nothing to it. Arrived home, pulled the container out of the bag, opened it up, took a bite of the chicken, there are few words to describe the texture. It tasted like biting into rubber. I have never experienced anything like this, horrible. I have never known chicken to taste like this or have this consistency. It was inedible, definitely not cooked properly and I’ll even go as far as to say it may not have been chicken. It certainly didn’t look like any chicken I recognized. I threw the entire container out. It was really disappointing…

I am on a quest to find the best take out Chinese food in the area – this place is not that! I ordered a quart of shrimp lo mein and crab rangoons(crabmeat wonton as stated on menu) with a soda. The food was done on time, 15 minutes, and was piping hot. My order came to $ 16.89 until the guy realized I was paying with a card, told me either cash or extra charge so my total became a dollar more. Whatever, almost all Chinese places do that now, but at least mention it on the menu! The food wasn’t that good, rangoons were decent in comparison to other restaurants but the lo mein was gross. I probably won’t be eating here again. All in all, I’m giving one star for the food and one star for the friendly service.

Great place to get good Chinese… Delivered. Everything we had, Chow Mein to General Tao’s Tofu, was good BUT it’s one of those whole in the wall places that’s not super well maintained, so I would not suggest eating there. Saying that, it is the BEST Chinese we’ve found in Buffalo so far.

Quick and cheap. Ask for extra spicy. Egg rolls and hot and sour soup are good. Not much of a dining room.

The food here is really bad, and no I am not rating this place through the eyes of a Chinese person I’m rating this place through the eyes of what an American would expect from Chinese take out. Again this place is REALLYBAD. The food is not good in any respect. I think they’re trying to keep the cost low because I’m sure Elmwood Village has high rent, but this is bad. I’ve tried this place three times now and I’ve regretted giving this place another try. Its expensive for the bad food you get. If you’re in a terrible chinese take out fix I guess you can go here but really don’t do it.

HORRIBLE! My boyfriend and I ordered from there for delivery and it was literally the worst Chinese I have ever had. I ordered shrimp fried rice… and it was JUST that. Shrimp, and rice. NO flavor whatsoever, bland as heck and super mushy. Not to mention, the delivery guy parked in the driveway of our apartment and blared his horn. Didn’t even bother to ring our bell or give us a call. Just sat there and laid on his horn. AWFUL. NEVERAGAIN.

I ordered a delivery at my job and the delivery guy came down to my office CURSING loudly at me for no reason. I have never felt so disrespected. I will NEVER order from here again and I recommend you don’t either. I didn’t pay money to get disrespected publicly at my place of work. HORRIBLEWORKERS!!!

I love great wall. I live down the street and appreciate how quick, cheap, and consistent the food is. The restaurant could use a facelift but the food is really good.

Decent Americanized takeout Chinese food. Specials and everything to be expected. I’ve only ever ordered delivery and I am glad they deliver to my house(I think it might be the only place!) and I like the dinner specials and everything. I get the sesame chicken with ‘no spicy’ dinner special, comes with fried rice and an eggroll.

A part of my family is Chinese, so I grew up on Chinese food. Basically, this is your typical fast food Chinese restaurant with a cheap menu and mediocre flavors. Look at spending 6 dollars for a meal that’s going to fill you up, but make you feel nauseated at the same time with the amount of grease. The service is subpar too. The young man who takes your order speaks so fast, one can barely understand him. And he doesn’t even say a kind word to make you feel welcome. I get the impression they just want to take your order, get it to you fast, and then have you be on your way. They don’t even spend the time to make the restaurant feel nice inside, which further makes one not want to spend any more time there than one would have to. The walls are barren, and the dining room feels empty. The only reason I would see coming here is because there are not any Chinese restaurant alternatives in the vicinity, but were a good one to open across the street, I could see this restaurant not lasting for very long.

I love Great Wall — and i’m Chinese! Well Taiwanese to be exact, but anyway, Great Wall has the best Americanized Chinese food in the Elmwood village area. The fried dumplings is a must-have appetizer, and i always go for the chicken and broccoli combo. Their broccoli is always cooked perfectly, and their chicken doesn’t taste like sponge like some other nearby Chinese places. I’ve also tried the singapore mei fun and it’s pretty good too, a little heavy on the curry powder for my liking though. Orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken are always perfectly crispy, and their pork fried rice is one of my favorite guilty pleasures, and a must-have on hungover days! They take cash only, which is how they stay cheap. One time though i was in a bind and the lady let me use my card, so they do have a machine to run the cards, but please be respectful and try to have cash. I would recommend maybe offering to pay a dollar or 2 more to cover their cost to run the card and see what they say, if you’re absolutely out of cash and unable to go to the bank.

Great Wall serves very good bad Chinese food. Anyone who has eaten here at midnight knows what I mean. Go here expecting it to be bad and you’ll be surprised.

Great Wall is just Elmwood’s resident Chinese place. They have the traditional Chinese menu(and the obligatory poor photos of the food) There’s also a large dining room that is never used. The only people sitting in there look like they’re impatiently waiting to get their food to take home. When I think Great Wall, the first thing that comes to mind is the giant stack of 2 liter soda bottle palates.(are they still there? i’m sure they are) The food looks like it came from any other Chinese place, and tastes the same way. If I had to recommend something, I’d say get some General Tso’s. They’re light on the Broccoli.
