The health department shut them down for severe food safety violations. «mouse-like droppings observed on shelves and prep surfaces throughout kitchen» and«fly-like insects». The also declared the building structurally unsafe. The owner has plans to reopen, I would not trust them. I only ate here once and the food was horrible. The County inspection report is linked to from the Bryn Mawr Patch website

I struggled to get this food down. The cashier was very friendly, but the food was awful. Some of it had clearly been left over from the day before(my rice was dried and hard as a rock) and the taste was off. I work not too far away, but I won’t ever be coming back here again.

I wanted to be nice — the service was good and the owners seem like nice people, but first and foremost, this place needs a makeover if it is going to survive much longer. It looks like they haven’t attended to the décor in 20 or 30 years. Secondly, the first three glasses of water each had a small dead insect in them. Gross. Turning my attention to the wall of the booth — large paint chips that could’ve been repainted in 5 minutes. The teapot lid had dried tea stains on it. The metal dishes they brought our dumplings out in had large holes in the bottom so the wilted shredded lettuce fell out. All the silverware had stains on them and looked ancient. Our food was o.k. — the menu boasts some unique dishes like banana prawns and mandarin pork with brandy Infused hoisin sauce, which we had. The latter was nothing special, the former was over –breaded(deep fried). I hate to be cruel to a business that may be struggling, but it’s time for the owners to give this place a serious makeover and pay more attention to cleanliness. With Margaret Kuo’s and Yang Ming nearby I can’t see the appeal of coming here in the state it’s in.

Quick, reasonably-priced, well-established, family-run chinese go-to spot on the Main Line. Lunch combos are great value — Leftovers are commonplace! Thai Style Chicken, Singapore Noodles, Pork and/or veggie fried rice and general tso’s are all great — I’ve never been disappointed by Beijing Inn — convenient location, friendly service, be sure to order early during the holidays — this place(and other similar spots I’m sure) are jammed around that time of year. My #1 choice for Chinese outside of Chinatown in Philly.

Ran into Beijing Inn last night before catching a movie next door. My husband and I split an appetizer, and told them to forget the entrees since the wait was ridiculous. Had also used the rest room at the back of the restaurant before leaving. The further one walks back, the filthier it becomes. Around 3 am I awoke feeling just awful, and was very sick for several hours. Am still not feeling quite right. There is no doubt in my mind I became ill after eating at this restaurant. A heads up to all — do not eat here under any circumstances!

Old-school family-run Chinese restaurant. complete with the red vinyl booths and ‘60s cocktails on the menu that nobody actually knows how to make. Food is better than average though, nice sauces without too much glop, good clean flavors. Good place to stop by before a movie, but not a destination.

This is my last minute«go-to» Chinese food option when I am feeling lazy. I tend to pretty much always get the same thing from there, which is: the combination fried rice. It’s not the best that I’ve ever had, but it’s not the worst either… I have never eaten inside of the place, just always call-in to go. The prices seem to be pretty good there as well. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it as a place to bring a first date though based upon some of the other reviews I’ve seen on here; plus whenever I do go in there I never really see anyone else inside eating… not really sure as to why…

Very mediocre at best. General Tso’s chicken was horrible, dumplings and crab Rangoon weren’t anything special, noodles and rice were good. Wouldn’t suggest it if there were better options in the area.

The others who gave such glowing reviews of this place on Unilocal!have obviously suffered from not having access to good Chinese food. This place is horrible. My wife and I gave it two chances. First was bad, second worse. It is DIRTY. I mean FILTHY. If the customers can see the filth right at the tables, just imagine what it must be like in the kitchen. The last time we were there we left before ordering because it was simply disgusting.

Well, I waited to review Beijing Inn until after I tried out their delivery service, and I’m happy to report that it was flawless. 4 stars instead of 5 only because many of the veggie-friendly dishes are seriously greasy if you forget to order the sauce on the side. But if you succeed in ordering dishes steamed with the sauce on the side, you’re in for a healthy and yummy meal. I also recommend requesting that tofu be added into dishes that don’t already have it. Eating in the restaurant is very nice, and in my experience the waitstaff is wonderful. And now that I know the delivery service is impeccable, I’d highly recommend doing that when you don’t want to brave Lancaster Ave on a busy evening.

I had dinner here last night and it was very delicious. The crab rangoon has to be the best I’ve ever had, filled with more crabmeat than many of the other places I’ve tried. We also ordered the rice paper rolls that were very delicious and came with a wonderful dipping sauce. We ended up sharing an order of chicken with macadamia nuts, which had a terrific and slightly sweet sauce. Its not as good as some of the places in chinatown, but I will admit that for a suburban chinese restaurant, it is one of the better ones outside of chinatown.

I’m from the Bay Area in California, so I’m used to pretty good Chinese food. Beijing Inn is a 3 star at best. At Bryn Mawr, you don’t really have that many choices for cheap chinese take out. It’s either Beijing Inn or Ho Choi. When it comes down to it, I prefer to get take out from Ho Choi. They always send out coupons with delivery for 10% off, 15% off, free pint of chicken, and a couple other ones. Personally, their food tastes about the same. Stay away from the General Tso’s chicken. It has way too much batter on it, tastes pretty disgusting. Their shrimp dishes will include maybe 8 – 10 shrimps, and the rest is sauce.

Although nothing beats Sang Kee in Philly’s Chinatown –Beijing Inn is a consistent and above average suburban chinese restaurant(yawn) — the real reason that i am reviewing it is because it is just a couple of doors down from the fabulous Bryn Mawr Film Institute. So if you are running late for your movie and like me hate hate hate to get a crappy seat near talkers or god forbid miss the previews it is a prudent choice.

The other Chinese restaurants on the Main Line may have more sophisticated ambiance, but their prices and service will never match that of Beijing Inn, one of my most beloved cheap eateries. Whenever my friends and I couldn’t stomach the thought of dining hall food but didn’t want to spend a truckload of cash, we’d make our way over to the Beijing Inn. The décor is simple, yet inviting, which meant that I didn’t feel out of place wearing jeans(the only item of clothing in my college wardrobe besides sweatpants). The wait staff is incredibly attentive, and the food is delicious — I recommend the sweet and sour chicken, which is only $ 8.95 for a full plate. The luncheon specials can’t be beat — for approximately $ 6, you can get soup, rice, and your choice of meat. It’s conveniently located to the Bryn Mawr R5 station, as well as steps away from the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. Also, for the über-lazy, Beijing Inn does deliver, but there is a $ 15 minimum order.
