Guess I was having a bad day, but they were far from sanitary this afternoon and they didn’t care to have an attitude with me. Lesson learned they didn’t need or want my business.

You know what really pisses me off? When I pay $ 6.25 for a chocolate croissant and an iced coffee, come home, and find that the iced coffee tastes burn and the croissant tastes like chalk because it’s probably over a day old. Do you know what makes me furious? When everyone in the area says it’s great. This is the most overrated coffee shop in this entire area. So many people think it’s great because it’s next to a Starbucks, a chain, and Forte Café, run by awful people. This place sucks.

I really want to like this place, but I simply can’t. I’ve come in here many times, and the service has always been ridiculously slow. One time there was only one person in front of me, but the barista made me wait a full 15 minutes before taking my order. Another time, after waiting 20 mins with only two customers ahead of me, I simply left. If you want good coffee, Little Zelda is FAR superior. If you want a bagel, try Nagel’s Bagels or Bagel Pub. Both have better products and much nicer staff.

Absolutely phenomenal coffee shop in Crown Heights. Fantastic coffee, espresso, and cold brew. Great staff, and cute shop. Makes me smh when I see people going to the Starbucks next door. How could anyone not support this local, family owned coffee shop and choose the mega corporation next door? What is wrong with people? Their house blend is one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had in my life. I asked the barista what type of coffee they use, and she said it was a private blend of multiple coffees from different countries, roasted by a Brooklyn coffee company. That’s the type of business I get satisfaction from when I support. They’ve also been offering cold brew well before it was cool(and it happens to be one of the best I’ve ever tasted).

Whenever I need to grab a coffee in the area, I always stop in here. Why? Because the Starbucks right next door can kiss my butt. They’ve got great coffee and pretty good noshes. My only issue is that staff attitude can be iffy. Some days its the best service in the world, others not so much. But, please don’t let that stop you. Give ‘em a try and decide for yourself.

Although my order was filling, the attitude of the male who took my order was unacceptable! I’m new to the area and craved a bagel w/cream cheese this morning. I was happy to find a local business to support(Starbucks and DD are next door/across the street). When inquiring about a particular bagel that was not displayed, the server immediately seemed annoyed. I contemplated walking out but truly wanted to support the business. This will be my first and last time supporting this establishment.

Love the Pulp and Bean. Their coffee and bagels have fueled many a work day, and they’re always attentive to their customers. For a great cup of jo and a delicious, hearty bagel all under $ 5, this is a must visit!

Love this place. One of the best espressos, cortados and mocha lattes in the region, very creamy milk. Prices are decent. There are tons of fresh pastries. Sitting area is very small, only two tables, better take it to go and drink it on the train or during a stroll in the neighbourhood. Bear in mind they don’t take bills over 20 dollars and charge an extra 50 cent credit card fee under 10 dollars, which is unfair considering your morning coffee+muffin will definitely cost much less.

I always try to spend money with small businesses but if this one wants to compete with it’s next door neighbor it needs to step up their game. I ordered an iced coffee with a small amount of milk and a bagel with plain cream cheese. I got a coffee with a good amount of milk that tasted so bad that I stopped at another coffee shop on my way home to get a new one and threw out the Pulp and bean coffee almost full. My bagel had a rasin/cinnamon(??) cream cheese that was very sweet and I scrapped most of it off. I ordered plain so it could be tasty to someone that likes flavored cream cheese. Simple order done wrong and poorly made iced coffee. I’m sure they can do better and need to with so many great coffee shops popping up.

This coffee is magic. I’m proud of them for sustaining as well as they do with Starbucks directly next store, and I much prefer Pulp &Bean drip coffee(and prices!). I also appreciate the almond milk option that Starbucks does not offer. Their muffins are bomb too! Service is friendly and music is always pleasant. Keep up the great coffee!

Used LevelUp here for a looked-much-better-than-it-tasted cinnamon bun from a pretty indifferent staffer. Not sure how they survive with Starbucks and Little Zelda and nearby bagel shops also peddling coffee and juice. Not a fan of the coffee — I’m not much of a coffee snob, but I agree with others the coffee tastes burnt… but their bagels and the muffins!!! always a treat when I take a shortcut to work!

i went in there for the first time and tried out their coffee… just a plain coffee with milk and a few scoops of sugar. The coffee was burnt and it taste like straight Sh*t. Left me to have a cranky morning. The coffee gods didnt deliver that day.

I went in for an orange juice at 4:40 pm and me and my friends were turned away because the server said the orange machine was«done» as in cleaned for the night. Seriously are you this lazy to clean the machine again and turn away business? Move your shop to an area where you would expect a lot less customers and give an opportunity to some other business to operate at a prime location.

I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. OK, I’ve only been here three times. But I walk past it every day on the way to the train, and the only reason I don’t go every day is because I can’t afford it. NOT that it’s too expensive — I just can’t be spending money on coffee every single day. But if I could… it’d be here. Anyway. I’ve heard great things about this place from friends, and I finally went in a few weeks ago. I got(the last!!!) banana muffin and a pumpkin coffee. And that was a great decision. Their muffins are incredible. And their prices aren’t insane. Bless you, The Pulp and The Bean. I also went in a few weeks later because I wanted to bring some bagels to my parents in Chicago. I brought some salted, some cinnamon, and some plain, because that’s what my family wanted. And they LOVED them. This is what new y

Best dirty chai around! Plus hello, thanks I will take all your bagels. The staff is always really nice. It’s a small space, there’s another one nearby that’s bigger, but I like this one because it’s next to a Starbucks and when I go in I like to stare into the Starbucks and lock eyes with someone and just shake my head like«SHAM

For all the naysayers, had a really consistently good experience at Pulp and Bean. Great bagels, good drip coffee, decent service. Shop local, avoid the Starbucks next door.

Such a perfect location for the summer morning iced-coffee-and-a-bagel-before-jumping-on-the-Franklin-Ave-subway routine. Unfortunately, the coffee here leaves a lot to be desired. Price-to-size ratio is not the best, as some other reviewers have noted, and the coffee itself I find to be very bitter or burned-tasting 75% of the time.(It’s labeled as «New Orleans» style iced coffee, but it doesn’t taste like chicory to me. Blue Bottle this is not.) Once in a while it will be dynamite, but it’s too inconsistent for me to make it my regular place. The bagels are utterly enormous. I got a cinnamon raisin with peanut butter the other morning, and half of it sat on my desk uneaten until the afternoon.(I thought about eating it as a snack, then threw it away dejectedly.) Definitely an above average bagel, but you could easily share one with a friend, especially if you’re getting one of the special spreads or fillings on one. The other food options are limited – muffins are pretty generic, the yogurt/granola parfaits are soggy and kind of yucky, unfortunately. Note that there’s a $ 10 credit card minimum(ugh), or a surcharge for anything under. I’ll keep stopping in to see if things get better(maybe hot coffee is more their thing?)

To clarify the wildly different reviews of the bagels here, for the uninitiated, there are 2 opposing concepts of bagels. One is smallish, with a crusty resistance and firmness. The other is big and fluffy, more bread like. For many of us old school purists, the firm ones are actual bagels. The fluffy ones are just bagel shaped bread(like Noah’s/Einstein’s), Anyway, this place has the big n fluffy.
