Nice little coffee shop. There are two of these very close to each other in this neighborhood, and I’ve had good coffee from both. This specific location tends to have slower service for some reason, but still friendly and still a good cup of joe. I have yet to try the various juice options, but I do enjoy that you can get fresh juice combinations and good coffee in a single location!

Great place. The entire staff at THIS location gives wonderful customer service by being attentive and engaging. As a born and raised New Yorker, I can put my ‘head on a block’ and say that their BAGELS are the BEST I have ever had. I dare anyone to challenge that. :) The MUFFINS are spectacular; always fresh, moist and tasty with a large assortment of flavors to choose. ICEDCOFFEEISAMAZING. The salted caramel, caramel, and butterscotch are my absolute favorites. The staff is very understanding when I ask them to tweak it to my liking. Overtime, there have been some slight changes in the menu. I hope they can bring in some international treats making this a go to stop for hard to find desserts… The manager Vidya is such a sweet soul; caring, yet firm in establishing good customer service and strong work ethic guidelines to her staff. I admire her efforts to instill respect, responsibility and high expectations to the younger generation. This shop served as the perfect meeting ground for a new friend I made in the neighborhood. Vidya and the staff were ALWAYS friendly, and welcoming to both of us regardless of how much money we spent in the shop up until his unfortunate passing. Vidya and some staff members even went as far as to pay their respect by attending his funeral. That is the element of neighborhood businesses that chain restaurants can not touch! While there is a small advantage of going to a larger business; obscurity by not being a source of gossip. I am sure the management will do everything they can to not encourage any type of behavior that will alienate their loyal clientele. Not only for their own personal sense integrity, but for the sake of the business. In small businesses it is never JUST business, it is personal.

I really like the veggie juice they do. But if it’s a good caffeine fix you’re looking for… It’s not the spot. For me a simple espresso is the real test for a coffee shop. So that’s where I was kinda disappointed.

Good coffee and solid bagels but why use Country Crock instead of butter? That stuff is unhealthy and disgusting.

I am unfortunately stuck going here because it is the closest coffee and bagel shop to my apartment, but ¾ times they are just awful. There are only two people who work there that have any idea what is going on, the rest have either a hearing or a hearing-and-understanding problem. Silly me for asking if they have a whole wheat everything bagel, them confirming, only for me to get home and unwrap a plain wheat. Silly me for asking for jalapeño cream cheese on my husbands bagel and them putting it on mine. Silly me for asking for skim milk and getting whole. Definitely silly me for not checking my order before schlepping back home because by now I should know I have a 25% chance of getting the right stuff. Either way, I suppose I shouldn’t be concerned with what I get because most times the bagels and pastries seem days old., Also, the OJ is served warm, I’ve had to wait 20 minutes for them to haul in a bag of ice in a trash bag for my iced coffee, and in the summer there is no AC so sitting, reading and relaxing is out. I wish another place would move into the area with a good bagel and cream cheese spread so I wouldn’t have to hate myself so much for continuing to patronage this awful business.

There are two Pulp and Bean locations on Franklin only 2 blocks away from each other, but I prefer the location south of Eastern Parkway because it tends to be less crowded and has more space for seating. This is definitely my favorite spot in Crown Heights for a coffee and a bagel — the bagels and spreads are SO good(even though I recently learned that their bagels are delivered from another bagel place in Park Slope) and they have an amazing assortment of hot and cold teas and coffee syrups. My only complaints about the southern location are that there is usually only 1 or 2 people working so the service can be a bit slow if there is a line, so make sure you don’t come if you are in a rush. Also on weekends they tend to run out of bagels and then you need to venture to the more crowded location on the north side of Eastern Parkway. Regardless I love this neighborhood coffee shop and will continue to keep coming here regularly!

I’ve been coming to The Pulp & the Bean for four years and ventured over to this southern location for the first time. Boy, what a difference… I asked for a large hot coffee, got a small… asked for a muffin(not even a bagel needing prep or anything) and never got it. The two guys working just moved on to the next customer while I stood there for five minutes realizing it wasn’t going to happen.

Good bagels, lots of spread options. The coffee is average at best. Like a lot of caffeine places, there can be a bit of a wait on weekends. I would not recommend the pastries. I asked the staff about the baked goods, and it seems that the cupcakes are delivered once or twice a week. They are not prepared /delivered daily. The last time I ordered chocolate croissant it was super dry, the chocolate center was super cold. I also ordered a red velvet cupcake and it tasted like something I’d get from the supermarket. No bueno.

Discovered this little coffee shop with my BFF. Very cute. A lot of different coffee choices and flavors(A++++++). A little expensive($ 5.50 plus 50cent charge for using a debit card for a large ice coffee and bagel with cream cheese). I would definitely come back.

Worth the walk to the south side of Eastern Parkway. More food and drink options and more room to sit and relax than in the other Pulp & Bean.

I love having a coffee shop south of eastern parkway. This has become my go to spot for Saturday and Sunday afternoons when I have to work. I get my tea quickly, they have free wifi, I never have to wait for a table(in fact it’s usually empty). This is a nice unite spot for my weekend work routine, though I don’t enjoy working on the weekends, Pulp and Bean make it tolerable for me.

I come here to get my coffee fix before heading off to class. The coffee is yummy, the chai latte is super sweet(I find that it is everywhere), and the cranberry muffin is so delicious(apple bits baked into it). Service is a little slow but so nice. My friend dropped her drink on the ground and was super embarrassed but they assured her and happily got her a new one. They were striking up conversations with everyone and it felt genuine and neighborhood-y which is always nice. Some people in the neighborhood seem to already be regulars!

Glad to have a decent coffee shop south of Eastern Pkwy now, and the coffee is good if not great. Service can be a bit slow. Iced tea they brew by the individual cup which not only takes a long time but leaves you with something closer to water. Not a place you’d want to sit and sip some joe. And no matter how many ways I’ve asked — «very little milk,» «just a little bit of milk,» «a dash of milk,» «NOSERIOUSLYJUST A SMIDGEN» — my coffee always comes back looking like a latte. Please please please put the milk out front like every other coffee shop so that I can prepare and enjoy the coffee I’ve just paid you money for.
