HOLDUPPEOPLE I am hearing that Seersucker is closing THISSUNDAY!!! *Cue Anakin Skywalker NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO* Don’t totally freak out they are opening Wilma Jean a «casual seersucker like spin off» down the street. SO glad my Mom and I made it here a second time right before Easter with our friends who had never been. The meal was fantastic and will remember the two visits we had very fondly. Will check out Wilma Jean for sure.

An update on biscuit-gate: The good people of Seersucker have heard you, Unilocalers, and responded. If you don’t read through the last 50 reviews of a restaurant before you dine there like I do(and apparently, like someone at Seersucker does), then you may not have noticed the frequent mention of «the biscuits are delicious but dag nabbit $ 10 for four biscuits that’s two cans short of a six-pack.» Seersucker no longer offers their four large biscuits for an apparently outrageous whole sawbuck but instead serves small biscuits with jam and butter complementary with the meal. We had seasonal rhubarb purée and brown butter, which were both excellent. The fried chicken was outstanding. I nearly ordered a vegetarian main dish(not that there’s anything wrong with that), until the waitress kindly explained that«Hen of the Woods Mushrooms» are mushrooms and not a fancy game bird with mushrooms(yes, I’m a peasant for not knowing this). You should really go here, it’s granny-slappin’ good.

I don’t venture much to this side of town, but having heard about Seersuckers, it seemed to be as good a place as any to spend a gorgeous evening for an early dinner. I mean, why waste a perfectly good reservation right? For starters were their mac and cheese and ramen. Absolutely yummers for sure. Entrée? Oh the entrée… their fried chicken over grits absolutely won me over. It is perfectly crisped without being overly greasy(there’s gotta be some grease for fried good anything right? Right). My only complaint would have to be that the portions are small for the cost per plate. It’s centered in quite a cute neighborhood. I would definitely return here despite the heftier end of a bill to try the different things they had on their menu, or maybe I’m lying and I’ll come back for their fried chicken(yep, that good, at least it was for me). Worth the extra 15 minutes out of the norm of eating in the neighborhood.

I went to Nightingale 9 in Carroll Gardens not too long ago, and loved it. But wouldn’t you know, this Vietnamese restaurant has a sister who hales from the South? Since Nightingale 9 was so amazing, I had to check out this other spot. A few doors down, you’ll find Seersucker in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Focusing on a seasonal menu, this lovely and inviting restaurant serves Southern cuisine with a bit of a NYC twist. The service is awesome, and everything on the menu looked great. To drink, I had to go for their Smokey and The Bandit(chipotle infused white pile whiskey, smoked brown sugar syrup, lime juice). This drink was incredible. The glass is served out to you, upside down, on a mini cast iron skillet, filled with smoke. Once the smokiness is infused in the glass, it’s lifted up and in pours your drink. It’s not particularly spicy, but has such a great smokiness and warmth, which is balanced out with the slight sweetness of the brown sugar syrup.

Usually after a long day of work, my boyfriend and I don’t even bother to think about cooking dinner. We live in the neighborhood and are always down to try new restaurants. We’ve been to Seersucker a few times during the week and once for brunch. We always enjoy our dinner, as the food is really delicious! I LOVE their biscuits with that honey molasses butter. Addicting. The only reason why I’m not giving five stars is really because I do not think the small portions match the cost of the dishes. Now, I don’t mind a small portion– makes you not feel so bad for having that dessert(which is also delicious) but $ 30 for the strip loin that is only three small pieces is a little ridiculous. Seems kinda greedy. There are tons of great restaurants within walking distance that also serve delicious food for half the price. My boyfriend and I would probably come in more often if the prices were more reasonable.

This is a great spot for brunch in Carroll Gardens. Food is good and reasonably priced(as are drinks). Plus there’s plenty of places for the Brooklyn stollerati to stash their baby buckets! I will say, the portions here are pretty small — but the food is super tasty. Or maybe I’ve just gotten used to jumbo-sized everything. Either way, you might want to get a starter, too, because I was still hungry after just the quesadilla and coffee.

It’s pretty strange when a southern restaurant has ramen, and even stranger when said ramen is the best thing we tried. I had been meaning to try this place for a long time after hearing how they have some of the best fried chicken and reading all about how the Biscuit Box is a must as well. Unfortunately, I think they made a change and no longer sell the biscuit box, instead offering a few little biscuits as an amuse, and the fried chicken was shockingly pricey and underwhelming. — Biscuits(amuse bouche) They gave us 3 little biscuits to start, which were OK, but nothing special. They definitely didn’t merit the mentions being made in several of the Unilocal reviews, so I’m wondering if these are different and I missed the boat. — Black Pepper Dumplings($ 15) These were ok. It comes in a huge bowl with a very tiny portion of dumplings. The sauce was creamy and rich and dumplings had some nice chew to them. — Southern Style Ramen($ 14) This was the only thing we tried that was really satisfying. At just $ 14, and listed in the first half of the menu with the cheaper items, it was also the only thing that was worth the cost, as it was a pretty hearty bowl and big enough for the main meal. It consisted of a poached egg, pork confit and collard greens, and a «peanut» miso broth, which was pretty rich and delicious. This bowl, hidden among the other Southern items on the menu, was better than many ramen-focused joints. — Fried Chicken($ 24) Though I much prefer white to dark meat, I can appreciate a good non-breast every now and then, but this rendition was not particularly memorable. In this dish, there are two pieces of dark meat placed atop some mashed potatoes and carrots. The chicken did taste pretty good, but I was disappointed after hearing so much about it and seeing that it cost a whopping $ 24. The meat was very juicy since it was dark meat, but the skin wasn’t crispy enough. The mashed potatoes were just an afterthought, and another side would probably have been more satisfying. The place feels like a typical small, cozy Brooklyn neighborhood spot. The service was pretty good, with plenty of attention even amidst the packed restaurant. After looking at the brunch menu, I think maybe brunch is their strong suit. The prices are way cheaper, they have a burger that looks good and fried chicken in the form of a sandwich that looks better as well. For dinner, everything is just way too pricey for the portions and quality of the food. If I come back at all, it might be during the day.

Came here for brunch last Saturday and loved it. 4 adults and 2 little kids. We were seated in the banquette by the front window, which helped keep the kiddies at bay… in the bay… window. The biscuits were awesome. Delicious salted whipped molasses butter was a hit for everyone. The catfish brandade(dehydrated catfish, rehydrated in buttermilk, think salt cod – a spreadable potato mash consistency) and fried chicken were outstanding! Ramen and quesadilla were less so. The space is warm, airy, and inviting on a sunny day. Maybe those preserve jars in the back would be creepy or dingy as the light dims but we really enjoyed brunch here! Not a destination per se but a neighborhood gem so if you’re going to be around all day anyway(say, at the Brooklyn Strategist), start with brunch here!

To be fair, I haven’t eaten dinner here yet but given the pricing for brunch alone, I don’t think I could afford it on my salary. Brunch is very expensive with underwhelming results. The food is fine but not worth the unbelievably poor door service or the bitter and disinterested waitresses. And should you catch site of the owner(& you probably will as he’s constantly flitting self-importantly between his three establishments on the block), tell him to hire some new waitstaff! Do yourself a favor and try any number of the friendlier options on Smith street.

Despite reading some mediocre reviews about Seersucker, I really enjoyed my meal here! We walked in here without a reservation on a busy Saturday night around 7:45 and were told we could be seated at 9pm, which I was mostly expecting. Since we killed time before our seating at another bar with some appetizers, we didn’t order any at Seersucker though I wish we did! The black pepper ricotta dumplings and country ham were calling out to us, but we had to refrain to save room for the mains. I’d definitely like to come back and try some appetizers next time. We brought a bottle of our own wine and were told it would be a $ 25 corkage fee, which is pretty average for nicer restaurants so we didn’t complain. We got right into ordering our mains — my boyfriend ordered the duck breast and I ordered the celery root cutlet, mostly because I was intrigued by what exactly that would look like. When it came out, I would say it was more like a celery root cake — a nice thick slice of tender and somehow meaty celery root that was breaded and fried, served atop golden beet root spaetzle which was different and interesting — in a good way! The greens it came with were deliciously caramelized. I only wish it came with some sort of sauce as all the other components of the dish were pretty dry so could have used something to counter it. A nice meal, but the duck breast I stole from my boyfriend’s plate was definitely much better. Perfectly pink in the middle and served with celery root purée and tender sautéed mushrooms. Delicious. I’d love to come back and try their lobster and grits, but we just didn’t have the stomach this time. We of course had the stomach for dessert, and with only one item on the menu, the decision was easy. It was rice pudding, but Seersucker serves no ordinary rice pudding. It was a bit on the thicker side, which I didn’t know I liked so much until I had it. It was topped with chunks of toffee and bosc pears, and sat in a small puddle of the best caramel I’ve ever had, and I’m not even a caramel person. Maybe it was a brown sugar caramel or something because it was dark, rich, and molasses-y. Perfect. By the time the bill came, we were fat and happy, but a little confused because the corkage fee turned out to be $ 30 when we were originally told $ 25. Not a big deal since it’s just $ 5 but when we mentioned it, they immediately apologized and fixed the bill even though the real price for corkage really is $ 30 but they wanted to stay true to their original word, which I appreciated.

This is the kind of place that makes me wonder how everyone else seems to have so much leisure time during the week. I had the poached egg and grits with a side of bacon. The heaping portion of grits were creamy with a healthy dose of scallions. It was good. The coffee was more average than expected. I love the design of the place, especially the colorful jars of preserved foods at the back of the restaurant.

This was pretty disappointing. Though I realize it didn’t get stellar reviews from other Unilocalers, I enjoyed nightengale 9 a lot, and hoped for the best. Also stopped in because I was in the mood for Southern Food. The food left the most to be desired: the buiscuts were pretty good, but expensive, and other than that, I was unimpressed. The country ham dish was very lackluster, and the duck was just OK. Throw in not great service and I would discourage others from attending.

I bookmarked this spot 2.5 years ago after reading that Aziz Ansari(who’s from SC) said it was his favorite fried chicken spot in the city. I’ve been here twice for brunch and am obsessed with the pimento cheese grits and down with the chicken sandwich and feel just ok about the biscuits. Certainly not the best fried chicken in the city(Bobwhite holds that honor for me right now). I liked my friend’s cheddar-chive grits as well but they lack the punch of pimento. Also, there’s friendly service and great coffee. I actually haven’t tried the sweet tea which is pretty much sacrilege. They take reservations, which is a huge plus because it fills up pretty quickly. I don’t think my Southern relatives would be super impressed, but I dig it.

Terrific little gem in Brooklyn. We had the biscuits with jams and molasses butter — delicious! I had the fried chicken which was boneless — yum. The décor is sweet and the staff is friendly. If you are in Brooklyn, it is worth a visit.

The highlight here is the Chocolate Croissant French Toast, be sure not to miss that. It has chunks of chocolate in it, comes with maple sirup and is just superb. We also got the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was super juicy and well seasoned and the biscuits with sausage gravy and eggs. Everything tasted exceptionally good but the sandwich and french toast seemed to be a little small to me.

Was in town to visit some of the east coast fam and to celebrate my BDay and stopped by Seersucker on the advice of my bro-in-law. Good advice, it was. Great place for brunch after a painful red eye flight out from LA. Coffee was pretty good, the cheesy grits were on point and the eggs were fine too. Basically, your typical slightly-upscale breakfast kind of place, although there was a full bar. But it was just a wee bit too early for drinks, haha. The service could’ve been a touch better, but it wasn’t exactly poor either. Apparently this is from the same peeps who own Smith Canteen just 100 feet away, and it shows in the similar décor. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have no issues regarding the prices here: it’s Carroll Gardens, what do you expect? While I wouldn’t commute to get here, if you’re in the neighborhood and looking for a nice local spot to grab a bite to eat or have a drink, you could do much worse than to stop by Seersucker. Trust me on this one; I’m an Elite. ;)

It takes every ounce of my willpower to not eat their fried chicken for dinner every night. Imagine the willpower it takes when I’m here and I actually order something else off the menu. I do occasionally indulge in the much loved Vietnamese Fried Chix salad. Have you ordered this? Do you love it? You’d better, or I’m coming to hunt you down and beat good sense into you. Mushroom and quinoa salad? Yes, you love that too. Who knew?(Answer: me). It’s fancy comfort food. But not too fancy, I actually prefer breakfast/lunch during the week, when the menu is a bit simpler.

I really enjoyed my meal here. I asked for the dumplings but apparently that is a «winter dish» and clearly it’s not winter duh. Anyway, so our waitress suggested pork chops, chicken and then the shrimp. I really wanted shrimp and grits so I had to go with it. Mmmm…they were delicious. I only wish the portion was bigger! I must have been starving because I did not leave anything on that plate. The grits were a bit more watery than I was used to but very good. The shrimp and mushrooms were great. I also tasted the catfish appetizer it was so light and really fresh. I am definitely going back and want to try the chicken and more appetizers!

This is the sort of place that I wouldn’t mind living above. And when I’d stumble home from god-knows-where, it’d be hard to pass by on the way home without stopping in for some of that Sweet Action satisfaction. I’d almost always sit at the bar to avoid the wait(which can be long, but probably not as long as they say). I’d let my eyes wander over the décor — spare, but cozy — and annoy the ‘tender with inane observations about the world that he would pretend to appreciate because he’s such a nice guy. Perhaps I’d start with the very nice apple salad(forgoing the mac & cheese, because it’s a bit disappointing). But more often than not, I’d order the burger, because I like burgers, and theirs is damn good. The pimento cheese lends it a pleasant smokiness that you want to linger in your mouth, and the accompanying onion rings are awesome. In a city with so many great restaurants, I might question if it’s a destination, but then again, I’m not sure they even want it to be. They are serving the locals, and serving them well. I’d tell my friends that I live above that great neighborhood spot, Seersucker, where there’s good music, good service, and a good burger.
