This place is closing this weekend and I’m having a heart attack. No idea why because it’s been seemingly super successful! Everyone, go tonight and tomorrow before they shutter the doors for good!

I had been having a serious craving for some pancakes so I decided we would check this place out on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived at about 2:30 and were seated right away. The dining area itself was fairly small so I was psyched that we didn’t have to wait for a table. Our server seemed like he may have been new on the job but he was giving it his all. We order the thick cut bacon to start with. It was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. I ordered the pancakes while my boyfriend ordered the BBQ brisket w/scrambled eggs and no cheese. His eggs were brought out with cheese but they quickly corrected his order. He really enjoyed his meal but thought the portion could have been a tad bit bigger. I loved the pancakes; they totally satisfied my craving. Overall it was a nice dining experience. I would definitely return and be sure to try the beignets next time!

I came here after work yesterday at 5:30pm to have the lobster roll special, $ 1 oysters, and have a cocktail or two with my Mother for a casual«girls night» to catch up. My mother came in, sat at the bar in the window, and was told that a sever would be with her shortly. She waited such a long time. Eventually, I walked in, and we decided to sit at a table so we could have some table service. As we were walking over to the table(restaurant was empty but a handful of people were at the bar). I was following our hostess to the table, and she shouted with both hands in the air: «STOP!!! WAITRIGHTTHERE!!!» I wish I could write what happened because it’s the CRAZIEST experience I have EVER had. Lobster roll had fresh meat, but had more mayonnaise than I would have liked. Perhaps it was lacking the celery, and a little kick. It’s pretty sad that I enjoyed the fries more than the actual roll. I can’t complain about the cocktails because they were very well crafted. Our waitress was polite. She answered any questions we had. Whether or not she answered them clearly, or had superb communication skills is another story. Mumbling is definitely not professional. In addition, she didn’t seem eager to do her job. It was happy hour, and we kept asking about specials, and what beverages come with the lobster roll special — blah blah blah. As it became closer to 6:30, we asked for the HAPPYHOUR specials. I felt this was really weird that she didn’t give us the HAPPYHOUR menu to begin with. I had ordered 7 oysters, and she came back to ask if I wanted some more. I decided to order 4 more. Our waitress came back 15 minutes later and said, «I’m really sorry, but we are all out of oysters.» Suddenly, the restaurant was filling up, and I was wondering, were the oysters given away to another table? Why did they take so long to tell me this? ANDWHY did she NOT take the cocktail sauce off the table after that statement? The entire time my Mother and I felt like an inconvenience, the back was getting all sorts of attention, but servers would rarely walk past our table(near restroom). When they did, we had to wave them down. On my way out, our server didn’t thank us. Instead, I THANKEDTHEM, and received a look without a smile. Don’t let the employees tattoos and the laid back fashion(ie: tank tops) fool you… For a $ 100+ visit, and neighborhood competition, I expected a lot more.

Beignets for breakfast cooked In a smoky oil? Check. Amazingly spicy Bloody Mary? Yup. Delicious polenta and short ribs? Got that too. Pretty solid brunch. A bit light on the non-pork options for those not inclined to hang with the pig. The $ 22 three course brunch is a good deal!

Came here for a chill catching-up dinner with some girlfriends, and it was… OK. We tried the pork nuggets because pork + nuggets = YES, at least in theory, but in practice it was a porky cornbread thing that was decent, but for which I wouldn’t come back. I ordered a cheeseburger as my main dish, and the best thing about it was the side salad, so… yeah. My friend enjoyed her shrimp ‘n grits, though, and our shared dessert(apple crisp cooked in a cast-iron skillet) was tasty, despite being slightly burnt. TL;DR, come for the drinks(100+ bourbons) and the brunch, but not for dinner.

I’m a brunchaholic and I’m disappointed wit no unlimited drink option. One complimentary drink isn’t enough for brunch in my opinion. And the food portions were too small Although the bourbon cocktails were tasty the food was OK. Service was good and the back area is OK if you have a small party. Less than15 ppl can fit in the back area I probably wouldn’t come back cause there are better brunch options for the same price

The five stars are for brunch; this brunch is above and beyond type of good. They really brought some rich southern flavors with comfort food redefined for brunch. Instead of an eggs Benedict they have a biscuit Benedict that really is comfort food done right. The biscuit is wonderfully flaky and buttery. The sausage gravy uses sausage that isn’t all crumbled up and barely detectable they give you a huge portion of sausage broken up in different sizes throughout the sauce. The drinks are great too, but above all the bacon cheese grits will take you to another place. If you’re anywhere in Brooklyn or staying at the NU hotel over the weekend you have to try out Char No. 4 for brunch

Came to Char No. 4 for brunch. Pros about this restaurant: the food is excellent. Cons: the service is terrible. I had the Buttermilk Pancakes which came with a strawberry topping. The pancakes were very tasty and the strawberries were the perfect toppings. I was afraid that the pancakes wouldn’t be as good here, but I was pleasantly surprised. Also ordered the Crispy Potatoes, which I thought were very good. I also tried some of the French Toast that my wife was having. It came with crispy, puffed rice on top, with a peach and berry topping. It was very different from any other French toast I had before, but I enjoyed the few bites that I took. Now on to the bad part. Yes, as I mentioned before, I didn’t like their service. The waiter would not smile, and looked confused by any questions that we asked regarding their menu. I don’t think the confusion was because he was new there, but rather that he didn’t care to work at the restaurant and looked pretty miserable there. Will I be back at Char No. 4? Probably, because their food was great. But I sure hope that their service improves by the time I go back.

What liquor screams«America» more than some American whiskey? One of the top places to go to enjoy some whiskey, is Char No. 4 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Named after the charred new oak barrels, used for aging bourbon, Char No. 4 offers over 150 American whiskeys. 150! They also have a restaurant, focused on smoked meat and other American fare. But, I was here for the whiskey. So, I ordered one of their bourbon cocktails, Noreaster(Ginger beer, lime and maple syrup). If you’re not a real bourbon person, or the idea of whiskey intimidates you, this is a great drink to choose. It’s smooth and has a nice sweetness to it. The spice of the ginger, sweetness of the maple syrup, and the citrus of the lime work really well together.
