San Loco is the type of place where you have to know what to expect, otherwise, you may be sorely disappointed. If you casually searched for Mexican food, and waltzed into San Loco expecting traditional Mexican food, and premium ingredients, you wouldn’t be all that happy. Take it for what it is: taco bell. You’ll receive bastardized«Mexican» food in all its glory: neon yellow hard shell tacos, flaccid flour tortillas, and ground beef, which, to many of us unenlightened gringos, was, for years, assumed to be the only known taco filling. Everything here is edible, and the pork carnitas are actually pretty damn good. If you’re like me, a true degenerate at heart, who frequently has cravings for what more refined individuals would probably refer to as culinary debauchery; when that seedy craving calls, San Loco will hit the spot. I’d recommend the pork carnitas queso loco.

Ordered a fish taco. Got a clump of burnt batter, not much fish. One taco is $ 5.50. I am uploading a photo, enjoy! I have been a customer of san loco off and on for years, and i usually get the fish taco which i do like. Over time the price has gone up, which is fine, but the quality seems to be slipping, which is not fine. This message is an appeal to management to try and fix things. The restaurant on Driggs is often pretty empty.

One of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Food is great, nice space, frozen margs are excellent. Big shout to my girl Crystal for holding it down!

An awesome little spot if you’re looking for cheap drinks and decent mexican food. After walking around the neighborhood in 70 degree weather, we were looking for a quick break and some cool drinks. The frozen margaritas are a pretty great deal for $ 5 – 6 during happy hour, and the chicken nachos were actually pretty yummy. Definitely a no-frills eatery, but it’s a good deal for what it’s worth.

Good food, okay service, drink specials are pretty damn good but it’s a bit pricey. The restaurant is pretty big but limited seating area. The cashier was pretty cool, she makes a lot of small talk(wait for it) and answers any questions you have about the menu etc. She doesn’t seem like she likes making small talk which is funny but she does it just so she can say this at the end«you can add a tip to your total» lmao I wasn’t mad at her she has to get it how she can. I was annoyed when I when back up there to place a second order for drinks and she said it again to me like if I ain’t tip your ass good enough the first time lol girl bye! I tipped her 8 dollars for a 24 dollar bill that seems pretty good to me. But overall this place is pretty good. I’ll definitely be back soon but this time with cash, so I can tip her ass a dollar every time I place my orders!

Nice staff, but the food is not quite on par with the locations in Manhattan. On my first and only visit, I ordered the Gringo style cheese enchiladas, which features 2 cheese-stuffed enchiladas covered in beef chili. Unfortunately, the cheese inside the enchiladas was only lukewarm, pretty much ruining the entrée. I mean, cheese enchiladas should be dripping with melty cheese and not served at almost room temperature. Ugh, and the chili on top was not even steamy enough to melt the cheese. I was not a happy camper. On this visit, my BF Tony ordered one of the Loco Bowls(think naked burrito). He ordered the chicken variety, which was very skimpy in size, barely had any chicken in it, and was also just lukewarm. Note that margaritas at this location were spot on, so at least the drinks were enjoyable. This place is spacious and features a trendy, contemporary look inside… unlike the Manhattan locations, which are cramped and not as updated. It would be great if this location could get their act together and strengthen their food prepping skills.

The veggie taco, sorry, but is not good. I loved the veggie taco from San Loco in the East Village, with mushrooms and some other delicious mix of stewed vegetables. But this one was a mush of indistinguishable stuff that together with cheese topping was just not appetizing. I hate writing negative reviews but I see it as constructive criticism. It should be easy for you to make just as good a taco as your sister location across the bridge. (2 stars because I don’t have the heart to give 1).

Nice dive bar, to get some burritos and nachos. The price is reasonable. A lot of tables to sit. The burrito loco is a little bit sloppy for a burrito, can’t use ur hands to eat because they put sauce on top of the burrito which I don’t like. Other than that good food for the price.

San Loco’s happy hour is perfect for those hot summer days when you’re looking for cheap(Miami type drinks) I believe their frozen drinks at 5 – 6 bucks from 12−6pm. The food however is ehh but hits the spot after a drunken club night or when you have the late night munchies. I suggest ordering the burrito grande(half and half) — That way you’re not paying for extra sides. Take the L train to Bedford get off in the back and its 2 blocks away.

The old location was my favorite lunch spot in williamsburg, but the new one isn’t too shabby. So many drunken nights end up here… Actually, I don’t know if I’ve ever been here earlier than 2am.

Walked in on a Saturday morning bc we were drawn in by the menu. The guaco taco(think a crunchy gordita from Taco Bell) was too good to miss. The service was subpar. The front employee prioritized phone orders over live customers. It took us 15 minutes to place our order because we kept getting interpreted by phone calls. The food was good but next time I’ll be ordering delivery instead of dining onsite.

The margaritas did the job… I think… nothing to rave about .the margaritas were decent but so tangy. Pretty laid back environment. Good for a chatty date.

Had the burrito bowl. All the goods of a burrito without the tortilla. Came with a group of friends and the tables were enough to link together. The frozen margaritas look really tempting too.

This might have been some of the worst Mexican food I’d ever had. It seemed like a pretty inauthentic place so I went for The Gringo Enchilada, basically chili on an enchilada. It tasted like they dumped hamburger helper over a sports stadium enchilada. It was soooooo bad. Wasn’t hot. No flavor. The salsa tasted like marinara sauce. Granted the traditional stuff might be a better move, but that cost $ 12 for some of the lowest quality, grossest food I’ve ever had in NYC.

We decide to stop by for a quick bite before going out for drinks in the area. Upon arrival I though to myself I didn’t know there was a location here ? came to find out from my friend that the previous location in the area had been moved here not bad. All the times I have been to the previous San Loco location I never tried the Beef Nachos I decided to so this time around, I had the Ball park size size I wasn’t crazy hungry perfect for picking good nacho, plenty of meat with some cheese & sour cream little bit of a kick to the sauce not bad at all. My friend had his usual Chicken macho tacos, can’t really go wrong here good chicken with plenty of fixings on top with sour cream & guacamole, normally my go to dish when I visit one of these. we wanted something sweet & decide to try the Apple loco I believe it’s called now this is interesting to say the least its a tortila with cinnamon sugar & apples on top with some cheese as well I have to say it taste better than it looks only because when u get it it just looks like a slop of goo on top kinda funky but it had a nice taste the tortilla was sweet along with the apples made for a nice treat. as for the restaurant nice size, interesting décor, cheap prices & quick service what more can you ask for. The food as usual like in other locations was great, nice & fresh tasting this place is good.

It’s a cool spot, interesting décor. If you blindfolded me and brought me here I’d probably figure out that I was in a Mexican spot in Williamsburg in 2 seconds. There’s no authenticity here whatsoever. However, I enjoyed the drinks and the Macho Nachos are good, and I enjoyed the quesadilla but it wasnt great. The portions are small. The sauces are pretty good. I’d come here to watch a game on TV and have a margarita at the bar. If you’re having a craving for solid, basic Mexican food, San Loco does the trick if you’re looking for just a step up from Chipotle.

This is my go to spot when I crave a Taco Bell style taco but it’s way better! Aka, Solid fast food tacos. Fast service and killer homemade hot sauces. Plus, they have a margarita machine. The location is spacious and clean. If you want chic and/or fancy don’t come here.

The bartender was not welcoming whatsoever. There are zero people here at 3pm on the Monday of Labor Day and he is not giving us much attention. He doesn’t even smile. The margaritas are just average.

This new location of San Loco really is a great addition to the neighborhood, I was very pleased with my visit. The new location seems a lot more cozy and laid back, it is smaller then the old location, but the old location was loud and rowdy and there was just too much going. they had some tv shows on, sports games and clean wooden tables all around the restaurant with carpeting against the wall, sort of Aztec looking. In this place there are no servers or waitresses here, all you have to do is place your order by the cashier and then pick it up after, tips are certainly appreciated though. the menu here is hefty, I like how you can pretty much make anything a grande size from burritos to quesadillas and tacos [either crunchy or soft]. quesadillas are 6 – 8 while tacos are 4 – 5 bucks per taco, and enchiladas are about 10 dollars, so the prices are decent and the food is very filling. we decided to just get grounded and shredded beef and chicken tacos[crunchy] with everything in it [cheese tomato lettuce and salsa] and you can make it spicier at your own discretion, it was delicious, flavorful and didn’t fall apart, it really did taste like homemade food. You can also just have some nachos and grab some drinks, they have a fully stocked bar with various margaritas and tequila drinks, and best part of all the place is open until 3 in the morning. they also take credit cards, not cash only. one star is taken off for the dirty unisex bathroom, this place is pretty new so it shouldn’t be so dirty.

This place was okay. I didn’t realize this place was gringo Mexican food so I suppose my anticipation of «real» Mexican food set the bar too high. Service was okay, guacamole was okay and they have decent vegan options but I’m not really one for hard shell tacos with cheddar cheese. It was like an upscale Taco Bell if such a thing exists.

this place was really just offensive to my sensibilities. After several months of a detox from alcohol and stress… I decided to have a few drinks at my girlfriend’s birthday party. Feeling pretty tipsy and spending the night in Williamsburg, those drunk munchies hit me hard on my way to my friend’s apartment off the L. So, at that moment, I was experiencing my first drop of alcohol in months, an insatiable and very loud tum tum, full bladder and the need to roll myself a wee spliff after a night out. Mistake I made: stumbling into San Loco and expecting that at least my hunger could be satiated. This was a horrendous attempt at Mexican and should not be allowed to claim that distinguished label. Uh-uh, not having it…“aw nah, hell nah” comes to mind. me and my girl call ourselves«fancy» ordering some«queso loco» thing they have on the menu, and enchiladas. weak flavors, tasted like a gringo made it, chunky and cheap sour cream… oh yeah, my mole was chilled(didn’t realize I ordered gazpacho as garnish) and none of this made me want to say«OLÉ». they can refund my money… no need– i just won’t be returning. queso loco was supposed to be some kind of very cheesy taco with shredded chicken and lame guac inside. the rice was dry and oh… sorry, what the hell kind of Mexican restaurant ain’t got no jalapeños?! done and done if my drunk ass couldn’t finish this sad, sad meal… I’d hate to swing by this place when I’m sober. thank the universe for those medicated treats we had in the fridge, after that meal got tossed! definitely make sure you’ve spent ample time at the bar before you pop into San Loco… because they are LOCO for trying to sell me that sheet.

Super expensive. The vegetable tacos are not good. They taste a lot like steamed vegetables. Or maybe like a frozen enchilada filling. Not sure. Maybe the meats are their specialty. Again, really expensive. 5 dollars a taco :(

I use to bartend right next door to this place and the tacos here were great! The service was quick and they also had a pool table inside if you wanted to hang around. I use to order chicken guaco loco and was always pleased with my order. They make wonderful mixed drinks and their sauces are all tasty. I would recommend anyone to try this place if they are craving tacos or a quick bite to eat.

Coming from San Diego where Mexican food is of abundance, I was definitely not impressed with this place. We took a rest stop after looking around antique shops in Williamsburg. The place was empty so we had a seat right away. We tried the margarita and I think it was very mediocre. The chips and guacamole was a bit on a disappointment side. For all its worth, the place is all right to chill after a long day of walking and the décor is kinda cool but I probably wouldn’t come back just for the food.

San Loco is always a great choice, specially when it’s 2am and you need to stuff your belly before bed. This location is new. The old location was literally around the corner, but I guess all the businesses on the street got the boot so that they can build fancy apts instead. The new location is a good size. Plenty of seatings. The menu board is a lot nicer(although I didn’t mind the old one). The food is the same. Prices seem to be the same as well. My go to order here is the«taco loco w/fried catfish». A hard taco wrapped in a tortilla, you pretty much get the best of both worlds(think double decker” from Taco Bell). If you love spicy make sure you get a side of the serious hot sauce and the stupid hot sauce. The stupid hot sauce is their spiciest.
