We walked in here looking for a place to watch the Champions League final, with all other venues in Brooklyn full. Not only were they showing the game, but treated us with free food and after a few rounds, some free beers! The owners and staff just seem intent on enjoying their great, unpretentious neighbourhood bar and to be honest I wish we has somewhere like this back at home. Can I rate it 6 stars?

Anyone capable of using Unilocal is probably not a local. Myself not considered, if you can use Unilocal, stay away and do not ruin this place. If you want to keep the hipsters away, stop writing that hipsters don’t go here in your review.

Old school locals bar. If your family hasn’t lived in the neighborhood for more generations then the royal family has lived in Buckingham Palace, you be feeling like a tourist who doesn’t speak the language. Lively duke box, Dart Board very affordable drinks and the locals seem laugh at each other as if they were family.

This place has really cheap drinks and not a bad selection of craft beers. Hipsters are definitely not welcomed. This place is filled with Greenpoints old timers so be prepared to hear a lot of racist jokes! How fun.

SO Far SO GoOd. Really flat beer. Many flat screens. Tough bar, tough guys. Locals only. Except if you are a hipster which I am NOT. Oh man me and mikey laid it down hard on the scratchers — HOURS of entertainment. Once you are up, youre down — and all around and over and again! I like to load up on the cheaps — $ 1/$ 2 and play the fuck out of those little things till you get your return and no I am not talking taxes. Oh! ALSO, the free food. Ha! Amazing, it was like walking in on a big Polish family dinner — except no one was Polish, I just dont know how else to describe them. I farted for days as a result of this grub but trust me it was pleasing going down, not in part because it was beyond on the cheap — it was free(redundant I know).

It’s not a dive bar, and it’s not a theme bar. It’s a bar. An awesome, low-key bar with a good local crowd and no nonsense. Please don’t come here, it’s great just the way it is.

Friendly staff, hometown crowd and reasonably priced booze and snacks make it a great place to stop by for a big game.

This is a classic New York dive bar. Most of the so-called dive bars within walking distance of the L/G train areas of North Brooklyn are hipsterized theme-park versions of a dive bar. Pit Stop is one of the few remaining bars in the area that would not be out of place 20 or 30 years ago. There’s nothing ironic or self-referential going on here, but there are cheap draughts, lots of sports on tv, and there are often some very drunk people when you don’t expect them(e.g. 4 in the afternoon on a wednesday.) If you appreciate pre-Giuliani New York, Pit Stop is a refreshing little anachronism in the middle of hipster Greenpoint.

I am reluctant to review this place b/c it is happy the way it is and does not need additional publicity but… The goods –Inexpensive drinks –Sports –Quick draw –Best place for a local history lesson The bads– — Not a place to meet girls, a place to drink and watch football, so? go on a Monday or Sunday and relax Its the place that people walk by and hesistate, look into the window, and continue to walk at the sight of a sparse crowd and no hipsters… but if you like sports, you wont be dissapointed.

This is the best place to watch football in Brooklyn, maybe even in the entire city!!! Sunday’s games are all shown on the several tvs lining the room but it’s really the good vibes and the food that make the Pit Stop on a Sunday such a wonderful place. The bar makes watching sports communal, relaxing and essential with all the feeling of a spontaneous and unfinished conversation. In a neighborhood experiencing an identity crisis as it tries to swallow the ever-swelling influx of post-collegiate youngsters moving to «Greenpoint,» the bar exudes a provincial charm. It’s that«real» you’ve been looking for, you know what I mean. The owner, Frank, is a pleasant, intense, and humble guy who, in moments of candor yesterday told some of his wild life story. It involves growing up on the very block in Greenpoint where he still lives and runs the Pit Stop, on the corner of Meserole St and McGuinness Blvd, across the street from a strip mall, home to Key Food and KFC. Every Sunday, Frank and his extended family put out a literal FEAST of food, for all, and for free. They vaguely ask for a $ 5 donation for your participation in the buffet, though the recipient of the donation remains unclear, because the money seemingly goes into a pot, which is later raffled off during halftime of Sunday’s 4pm games. It’s real! My friend won $ 175 a few weeks ago! $ 5 will get you five raffle tickets for a chance to win a bunch of prizes, and get you unlimited access to the buffet! A pint won’t set you back more than $ 5 and I believe that well drinks are $ 3.50. Pitchers of Miller Lite go for $ 10. However, yesterday, and probably most Sundays, the Miller Lite girls are present giving away entirely FREE Miller Lite. Two adorable(and cool-seeming too! One of the girls came in wearing a Velvet Underground shirt then took it off to reveal her sexy referree outfit!!!) ladies rush to refill your glass if it dips below ¾ full!!! I can get with that! The real gem, the real inexplicably generous star of the show, is the lovingly prepared buffet. It just goes on and on!!! It is Thanksgiving worthy. It feels like Frank has invited you into his home and made you a feast fit for a King, and decidedly a Brooklyn one. Kings County people!!! I’m going to take the time here to list the dishes they’ve offered in the last two Sundays I’ve been there, to really show how wonderful and special the food is: Everything is very proudly homemade, and served in casserole dishes over Sternos. EVERYTHINGISDELICIOUS. 1. Cabbage and Noodles 2. Lasagna — Absolutely unreal! It was a large casserole, made with lasagna noodles and CHEESE-FILLEDPIERGOIES, and ricotta cheese. It was a heavenly, gooey mixture tasting like perhaps the best mac and cheese you’d ever had. 3. Mashed Potatoes 4. Beef Stroganoff 5. Hamburger Helper — When was the last time you had delicious and decadent Hamburger Helper? Exactly. 6. Veggie Chili — Excellent, nuanced heat and vege-friendly. Frank INSISTED I leave with two FULLLEFTOVERTRAYSOFTHECHILI. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I left the Pit Stop after a day’s football and invited TEN friends over for a FULLCHILIPARTY, where everyone had seconds, and STILL had more to take to work! 7. Ham 8. Teriyaki Chicken For the following menu Frank offered the caveat that he just hadn’t had time to do anything very special this week: 1. Pernil — Cooked by Frank’s brother, for six hours, and prepared the traditional Puerto Rican way! 2. Pork Loin 3. Swedish Meatballs — Unreal! These were gone within an hour! All hand-rolled! 4. Italian Meatballs 5. Dirty Water Dogs — Veggie and meat! 6. Potatoes — My veggie friend could not stop raving about the delicate rub on these roasted potatoes. 7. Beef and Cheese pasta — Heavenly goo-y mess of ground beef and macaroni — don’t know if/how this differed from the previous week’s Hamburger Helper, but it was spectacular! 8. Pasta(no meat) 9. Sausage and Peppers(better than SHEA!!!) There are things I’m certainly forgetting. Hearing Frank describe in detail his procedure of making Buffalo Wings made my mouth water, and proved this guy puts the same genuine excitement into all his wonderful dishes. This is hands down the best place to spend a Sunday; Good people, good(free) food, good(even free) drinks, a chance to win about $ 200, and a generally great vibe. Go for the food, stay for the football!!!

One of the cheapest watering holes in Greenpoint! I love coming here to watch the Yanks and drink Maker’s which costs a mere $ 4.50 all the time!!! Also during football season every NFL game is on one of the many TVs! Sweet! A real Brooklyn vibe.
