Slope Price — Lukewarm — Rude I expected pricey. It’s Park Slope. In that context, the menu prices are reasonable. I had a tuna melt that consisted of fake cheese melted over room-temperature tuna. Meh(to say the most). The service at the counter was terrific though; fast and friendly. When it came time to pay, I thought the bill was incorrect. I asked the owner to see the menu; not even mentioning why. «My son knows the prices!» I was told curtly. Let’s try this again. What should have been said is: «Is there a problem with the bill, sir?». It turns out that the bill was correct and I was mistaken. Actually, no, the bill was twenty cents light. I guess he doesn’t know all the prices. No return visit planned.

I really love the food and the people at Park Café. I’ve been here for breakfast twice and really enjoyed it both times. The French toast is delicious and so is the Mexy omelette.

This place is makes amazing waffle fries and the carving board turkey sandwich is always on point! I usually order from here but every now and then I take my brother for breakfast at this place and we always have a good experience.

The Park Café is decent diner food — but not the best in the neighborhood. They have all the standard stuff — as well as a few unique items. The ‘sloppy’ items are special — and quite good. The fried cheese really makes them stand out if you’re looking to endulge. What I wouldn’t order here is any typical deli food. I’ve ordered things like lox on a bagel and been really disappointed. There are better and fresher deli options nearby. Lastly — like most Park Slope diners they open pretty late in the AM. If you’re looking for an early morning spot or 24-hour diner, look elsewhere.

I’ve been here twice and the food is worst than Denny’s. Everything is bland and greasy. It’s just a basic diner and you can do better.

The food was as excellent as diner breakfasts can get. Ultimately what sets the vibe though is the narrowness of the room and the lighting. The temperature is perfect and by looking around I could tell it was a locals place. I’m definitely going to go back it’s the perfect place during the week where you can just sit read the paper and enjoy some coffee and a simple breakfast. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and a jumbo bagel. I also got an ice coffee. My only complaint is the $ 20 dollar minimum for cards. A silly rule. None the less I’ll have cash for the cozy environment. – Joseph

I’m going to write this because I need to. I visited this place seven years ago on my first trip to NYC. We wanted a quick breakfast that wasn’t just the Starbucks next door to our hotel, so we came to this place. I ordered a cheese sandwich. I just assumed it was a grilled cheese sandwich. It wasn’t. It was two pieces of white bread and a slice of America cheese. That’s. It. And it was like $ 7!!! I always tell this story to people when I tell them how expensive visiting New York is and it feels so good that I finally get to vent about this! I HOPEYOURCHEESESANDWICHISHOTNOW, PARKCAFE. AND I HOPEIT’S NOTTERRIBLEANYMORE.

Now, having made another trip to New York City since my earlier review, I can actually give this restaurant the sort of review I usually prefer, which is to say, based on more than one visit. This time I had a bacon cheeseburger«deluxe,» meaning with lettuce & tomatoes(served on the side; which is good, as I don’t really like to put salad ON my burger), french fries, and a pickle. It qualified as good enough for a 4-star rating, certainly, but not outstanding enough to get any more. Most of what I said in my earlier review seems to continue to apply.

Just ordered late night ‘breakfast in bed’ it was so quick and the delivery man even walked up the 5 flight of stairs to the apt! The omelet hit the spot although there was enough oil in it for about 5 omelets! Delicious potatoes and quick delivery!

My buddy and I were both in the mood for a burger tonight and wandered in to the Park Café about 8:30PM. It was snowing when we arrived(and raining when we left). The place was pretty empty. We were seated right away and given waler and menus. The menu was extensive with the expected breakfast and lunch specials and a complete dinner menu with Greek and other interesting choices. I went with the cowboy burger medium rare and my buddy with the volcano burger. We agreed that they were good diner burgers. Nothing special but nothing wrong as well. Service was a bit laid back and prices quite reasonable for the Slope. Also when we asked that the TV be switched to ESPN, the server was very accomodating. So in short this place is a nice small diner with diner quality food. In other words it is what it says it is! 3.5 stars.

I’ve had many breakfast meals here. Predictable breakfast meals and diner food. The service is always welcoming and attentive. The few dinners I’ve eaten here are not as consistent in quality but always great with service and taste. Huge menu.

I’ve lived in Park Slope for 15 years and today was only my second meal at Park Café. The last one featured bad food & a waitress chewing and popping her gum. Today’s visit will certainly be my last. My son & I got a seat right away — it was maybe 2⁄3 full… we got our drinks came quickly too from the busboy, but he wouldn’t take our order. After waiting another 10 minutes, I asked the owner — who was standing 10 feet away behind the cash register the whole time — if we could place our order with him. He said«No — only the waiter takes orders» and said he’d call the waiter over. By now, it was clear there was only one waiter for the whole restaurant… Another 10 minutes later, I asked the busboy again if he could find the waiter. Finally, the waiter arrived to apologize and take our order: one egg dish, one side of fries and a single scrambled egg. Then we waited for another 30 minutes, during which time only three-or-four more tables were seated and the same number seemed to leave. A table sat directly behind us didn’t even get their water or menus for 10 minutes [yes, I was looking at my watch — this is no exaggeration]. I asked the busboy if this was a typical wait, and he just laughed. At 50 minutes since we walked into the door, I walked back to the rear counter — and saw our food sitting on the kitchen pass. I should actually say I saw our food congealing on the pass… The owner, who had been standing in the back talking to the waiter for several minutes, just shrugged and said«What can we do? We’re so busy…» I said it was ridiculous and would just take the food to-go. When the owner brought our bag of food to the cash register, he said again«we’re very busy…» — to which I replied«I don’t need excuses. It shouldn’t take an hour in a small diner that wasn’t very full to get eggs.» To that, he literally shouted, «I’ve run this place for 48 years — I don’t need you telling me how to run my business!» All I could say is «you don’t want to hear the truth.» I paid him, left a 15% tip and will never go back. The only reason this place does any business is because there are so few diners in the entire North Slope. If you have any sense, go to one of the Dizzy’s diners on 5th or 8th Avenues, The 7th Avenue Doughnut Shop at 9th Street, or the Little Purity a bit further south on 7th.

I should have known better when I noticed the diner was pretty empty when I went for breakfast. I chalked it up to the fact that it was early on a Sunday morning. Well perhaps, I made my initial assessment too swiftly. The best part of the experience was the service. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. When I sent back my food when I peeped a long brown piece of hair chillin’ on my plate like garnish, they were extremely apologetic and sent it back without any qualms. Sigh I don’t usually have high expectations for diner food, but my steak and eggs were so completely sad looking that I actually appreciated the stray piece of hair laying to the side. The sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious though. So in the end, I’ll definitely go to my usual breakfast spot around the corner. Sometimes you just gotta stick with what you know.

rClassic NYCDINER in the midst of a bunch of pretentious Park Slope restaurants. Type of place you can get breakfast anytime, a burger, or a gyro. Good stuff. Looks, tastes, and smells good and doesn’t break the bank. Woot, woot. It’s a find in this gentrified part of town. Oh and it got an A health rating. Sweet!

There’s a serious lack of diners in the North Slope, so this place fills a need. On a sunny morning with light streaming in the windows and warming up the dark wood fixtures, there’s a very pleasant, old school vibe. In two visits I have found service to be quick and genial, and it’s clearly the sort of place where regulars are remembered and warmly welcomed. I wish the food were better, though, and I don’t mean that I’m demanding gourmet fare. I’d just like to see basic diner food better executed. This morning I had silver dollar pancakes, eggs over easy, and bacon. The pancakes were tasty, but eggs were undercooked(I like a runny yoke, which is why I ordered over easy, but runny whites are just gross) and bacon was so overcooked that it was dry, hard, and flavorless. Enjoyed the coffee and the vibe, but come on – don’t mess up my bacon and eggs!

Okay seriously. This place is freaking AMAZING. Note that the following review is entirely based on my pancake obsession. So the mark of the best pancake for me is that one can eat it without any syrup(because the batter is just that dang good). Well outside of my favorite diner in the South this is the first NYC diner to meet that standard. I have uploaded a picture of these beauties(to which I added strawberries and bananas). While I was there I also ordered a side of sausage and was pleasantly surprised that they brought me out 3 plump looking buggers.(I mean it’s park slope after all I figured I’d be lucky to get 1 full link lol) I can’t comment on the other breakfasty foods but I will say the place was tasty enough for me to go twice in one weekend while puppy-sitting for a friend. I mean one can never have too many pancakes right? Besides– struggling up and down the streets of Park Slope with two huge pit bulls(you know all the Park Slope moms were freaking out like I was walking tigers or something) more than justified my repeated pancake excursions.

So, daddi pulls up next to me while I was dropping my laundry off this morning(he’s just finished dropping grandma off to Palm Sunday church service) and announces he’s going to breakfast. I’m starving after hitting the gym and running errands this morning so I tag along. He says we’re going to Park Slope, but you can’t tell anyone about this place. Okay daddi secret squirrel, my lips are sealed. 10 minutes later we pull up in front of Park Café, find a parking spot, and head in. It’s about 10:45 and there is no crowd(a few couples sit booed up and an elderly couple occupies a large table waiting for their party to arrive). We are greeted with smiles and allowed to choose our own table, we select a table for four and get no pushback. Two min go by and the coffee orders are taken, three more minutes and coffees are on the table. We’re asked if we need additional time to order — we don’t(they have whole wheat pancakes and turkey bacon!), so in total all the pleasantries are handled in under seven minutes(nicely done). Food arrives in 10 and is delicious. Diner food should be quick, tasty, and abundant. Check marks on all three. My poached eggs were perfect and my pancakes and TB hit the spot. Refills to our coffee mugs were routine and our waiter stopped by the table three times before our check came(he did forget daddi’s cranberry juice and had to be reminded twice, but nothing major to complain about at all). Before we leave I check-in on my phone and my dad looks slightly panicked. He says, «You’re not telling anyone about this place are you? I don’t want you or your friends ruining my Sunday breakfast spot.» I smile and tell him, «Of course not daddi, your ‘secret’ is safe with me». :-)

After a nice, meandering walk along 7th avenue in Park Slope I was hungry and needed breakfast. Park Café was one of the few places that had diner style food while not being super crowded so I ducked in. The interior is made up of a lot of dark wood, your standard old time restaurant design. I sat down by the window and it was quite comfortable on a sunny day with the light beaming through the glass store front. Service was snappy, no doubt about that — in the beginning. Before I knew it I had a cup of coffee, water and a waiter taking my order. I ordered a Chorizo omelet with home fries and whole wheat toast. As I waited for my order I finished my coffee and I waited for a refill… and waited… and waited… Finally my waiter came over with my food and I got a refill, and then once again my cup never got refilled once during the whole meal. I made due with the water, but that was a very disappointing part of the service. So what about the food? The portions are a good size, you’ll definitely be full. The Chorizo omelet was okay. I know you’re thinking«Wait, only OK?!» I mean, even sub-standard Chorizo is still pretty good. Problem was, I could barely find the Chorizo. There were tiny bits here and there in the omelet, but you had to fish for them and they all seemed slanted towards one side of the omelet. Strange. The home fries were good and the toast was warm and crispy. I will say that the price was right. I think after tip I didn’t break $ 15, but considering how many other venues there are to enjoy a breakfast in the neighborhood nowadays I think I’ll try elsewhere next time.
