This place has decent food if you’re desperately craving for some sweets or a light lunch. After coming for a few times I’ve learned a few things. Not everything on their menu is actually available. If it does happen to be available, there will be a very long wait.(Over 30 minutes for some waffles). They have computers on some tables for guests to use, however ours did not have a keyboard which made it very difficult to use. Today my friends and I came to order 2 desserts and 1 drink. We sat there for a good 20 mins before they told us our order was ready. Slightly confused to why they did not bring us our order, we went up to get it. They rudely told us that they assume orders were for take out if ordered at the desk. I wished they clarified when we we went up to order. This has never happened to me in my past visits.

Came here with two friends and I ordered mango pomelo and durian sago to go and munchies special sago, curry fish ball and onion rings to stay. The onion rings and curry fish ball both taste like bland and«funny». The only thing I liked was the munchies special sago. The waitress/host was also a bit rude towards us. Tried both the mango pomelo and durian sago at home and was disappointed also. Although they add popping mango or whatever it’s call in the mango pomelo(something different from the other mango pomelo at other dessert spots), there was tiny scoop of sago in both desserts. I mean I did order both SAGO desserts so I did expect more sago than what I received. Probably won’t return unless I’m around the area and craving for some desserts.

Another favorite in the bensonhurst neighborhood. It’s perfect for late night eats, dessert cravings, or eating on a budget. Over the years, I’ve tried a great portion of their menu including the skewers, instant noodle spam and egg soups, curry fishballs, snowy fruit sagos, and bubble tea drinks. My favorite is the papaya mango sago w/vanilla ice creams. Def recommend

For the price and taste of the food, it is one of my favorite places to go. They updated recently(ish) their savory menu with rice dishes. My favorite is the BBQ skewer rice which only costs $ 5.50(?) something like that… and it comes with 3 skewered meats(mini sausage, chicken, and beef) and white rice. Maybe I’m basic, but it is my FAVE dish. Then we follow up with some awesome desserts and drinks. My favorite dessert is the Mango Pomelo. But anything with mango is top-notch here. Drinks are a little ehhhh… on the sweeter end. But it’s a dessert shop. #treatyoself

This place is pretty crowded but it’s a great hangout place. Theres a computer screen at each table and the waitress was very nice. I ordered a mocha agar coffee and my friend had a beef noodle soup. They have reasonable prices too. I’m not a big fan of tong sui but that’s one of their popular dishes here.

You can’t go wrong with the Mango Pomelo. It is basically mango heaven! The baked mussels, skewers and ramen are delicious too. They serve an extensive menu of snacks and desserts. Just know that my tummy is always satisfied everytime I come here. Munchies is also a cool place to hang out. They have touch screen computers at every table to keep you entertained. They also play a mix of Chinese and English music in the background which I enjoy. All in all, a decent dessert spot.

I’ve been coming to munchies for a few years now. Probably over 3 years now. This is one of my favorite tong sui /HK dessert place. They now serve rice dishes on top of the dessert well. A friend introduced me to this place and now I have to go every time I am in the area. This time i came in on a Monday night. The service was phenomenal as always. The waiters/waitresses speak fluent english and cantonese. Some speak mandarin. Sometimes this place is packed and there are no seats, other times it is packed. With that, sometimes it takes longer for service depending on how packed they are. The desserts here are really good. My favorites being the durian pancake, mango pomelo, and the egg tarts. The egg tarts are made fresh here, so they do take the longest to make. But it comes highly recommended. The rice dishes here that they added in the last year are okay. I would have to say you can get better quality for the price at other places. But I come here for the desserts so it’s fine. Each table here has a touch screen computer at the end, along the wall to help you pass the time, while waiting for the food in addition to the free wifi. There is a clean bathroom for customers. I can stay here all day.

I used to be critical of this place but it seems we keep coming back. I realized that this was not such a horrible place afterall. It grew on us and has become a regular hang out spot for some of us if we were in the area. 1) Menu at least has some pictures and good food variety. 2) Servers there actually are nice and helpful with questions. 3) Desserts are a higher quality than Kulu on 8th Ave and less watered down. Regular egg pudding was the bomb, flavored ice creams(e.g. lychee, coconut, etc.) were memorable, etc. I’m glad we have this dessert place. Dessert shops always come and go… but I hope this one stays.

I dig this dessert place! Mango Pomelo with Mango Ice Cream! Under category of Snowy & Mix Fruit on the menu. Cold Sago Fresh fruit Refreshing Ice Cream The durian desserts here are also very good for those who could tolerate the smell and taste like me. They don’t call it the king of fruits for nothing. This place makes the perfect durian desserts! They also have various snacks, drinks, which I haven’t tried but will when I return for more goodies!

Not a big fan of this place. I would only come here if I’m nearby and I’m tired of the other dessert spots. Their desserts aren’t that good, the drinks are okay and the computer next to the tables are pretty useless lol it’s so hard to use so no one really uses it. I don’t think it’s worth the money.

This is a chill spot where you have a computer screen on each table for entertainment lol. I’ve been here a few times and they have been on point with their drinks and desserts. The staffs are nice.

This review is based mostly on their savory items, but as well as desserts. My boyfriend and I decided to try out the savory menu items at Munchies since we haven’t done so before as well as have dessert. We went on a Sunday afternoon after the gym and Munchies wasn’t too busy, yet the food felt like it was taking a long time to come out. HK Style Chong Fun with Mixed Sauce — I wasn’t a big fan of this, nor did it look very appealing. The peanut sauce was set off to one side and I wished it was drizzled on top of the chong fun like the hoisin sauce. I’ve had better. BBQ Squid — This possibly the worse squid I’ve ever had. The smell and taste was a little funky and also the squid was overcooked. It took a lot of effort to bite the squid off the skewer and digest. Ham with Egg Instant Noodle — Another savory item I wasn’t a fan of. The soup/broth was very salty and there definitely wasn’t enough noodles. I could have definitely made a better instant noodle at home. Taiwanese Pork Chop over Rice — My boyfriend’s order sure took a very long time. This dish was better than mine in terms of taste, but not like over the top excellent. The pork chop was nice and crispy. This dish is good, but it doesn’t compare to how yummy the Pork chop dish is at May Wah. Grass Jelly with Mixed-Fruit — I was happy to see they didn’t mess up our desserts. I’ve had this dessert before, and it sure did make-up for the disappointments earlier in our lunch. It’s a great combination of fruits. Strawberry Aloe Sago — I liked this dessert a lot too. I like the strawberry purée and that it was full on strawberry-heaven. Glad it wasn’t too sweet. So it looks like Munchies Café strengths are their desserts, but their savory menu items are definitely poor and I would not order their savory menu items again. I also think that it’s absurd that we were charged a service charge, all they did was bring our food to us and take our orders. When Munchies first opened, they never had a service charge before and no other dessert places do I know around Bensonhurst have a service charge on their receipts/policy.

I always come here for their fishball with bacon. My two favorites combined together! For dessert I always get mango pomelo with green tea ice cream. I still get it if they don’t have green tea ice cream, but I prefer it with the green tea ice cream. * I’m very picky when it comes to green tea. I love the bitterness flavor, there are a lot of places when you order green tea ice cream and it’s super sweet. Munchies has the bitterness flavor that I like*

Wanted to show off this place to friends after a meal at Sake but it only turned out to be so-so/average. When we went in, there were a bunch of elementary school kids in there that were making a lot of noise so we got annoyed and just got drinks to-go instead of trying the HK-style desserts in there. Not their fault though. I got the Mango Delight and found it to be pretty good. It had fresh pieces of mango in it(that weren’t sour!), sago(my favorite!), and mango juice. It was $ 5.50 though so not exactly cheap. I’ll probably come back to try some of the desserts.

It’s inexpensive and the people inside are super nice. My Chinese isn’t great, so I tend to speak in English, but it would be easier on all parties if you speak Chinese(not necessary though). Each four top table has a touchscreen TV that is connected to the Internet. I am terrible at using it and have up after a decent struggle. You can watch YouTube etc. Good to entertain kids with. Their drinks can vary in sweetness. the mango coconut shake was sweeter and thinner with mango pieces. The papaya sago was thin and tasted light; they use the small clear tapioca pearls with pieces of papaya. The mango avocado shake was thicker consistency, not as sweet and slightly creamy without an overwhelming avocado flavor. We got a few snacks; fried chicken gizzard, hk style cheurng fun and pig ear jelly fish salad. The fried chicken gizzards are a little tough but you get a lot of them, definitely not bad. The cheurng fun was a bit stale and the sauce a bit thin. But it’s not bad and pretty cheap. The pig ear jelly fish salad was refreshing as it comes with some quick pickled vegetables although you don’t get much jelly fish. Overall great and I enjoyed myself. They don’t hassle you to get out, but be warned this is a high schooler/college hangout

Food Strawberry Aloe Sago Tong Sui: 3⁄5 Strawberry was way too sour, ruining my experience with the tong sui as a whole. Kiwi Crêpe: 2⁄5 The crêpe was a bit overdone making it hard to cut into. Overall pretty decent. Original Sawdust Pudding: 4⁄5 Delicious but super powdery. Definitely need a drink to wash it down afterward. Mango Pancake: 1⁄5 Bland. Not worth my time or money. No mango taste whatsoever. Experience — Understaffed. This place can get pretty crowded and there’s not enough people to accommodate all the customer. — The two staff working behind the counter were really lax. They were on their phone and went out to buy snacks. took a while for someone to actually take our order. — Food was decent. Pretty disappointing to be honest. — I don’t like the fact that they charged a service charge when we barely got any service.

After a quick Unilocal search for dessert soup, I came to Munchies café. It was snowing outside that day so I was looking forward to a nice and warm place to fend off the cold. To my dismay the moment I walked in, the place reaked of BO??? I kind of wanted to leave but we had already walked in and my boyfriend was craving for tofu dessert soup so we got a table. To my disappointment, they didn’t offer classic chinese dessert soups so there was no tofu dessert soup… but instead we ordered Hk style rice noodles, papaya delight sago drink and durian lover tong sui. The HK style noodles reminded us of the street food in asia, steamed bite sized rice noodles with peanut sauce and hoisin sauce. The noodles were okay, I’ve had ones that are held better together and more chewy. The papaya delight was pretty good, they give you bits of papaya in it. I really liked the sago alot. The durian lover tong sui was pretty legit, strong fresh durian and every bite was durian taste. They had a small little durian in it but nonetheless it was more than enough for me. The soup base even had durian flavor too. The tapioca was okay, I think it would taste better without it. Overall, I would stick to the desserts here. I’d give this place 3.5 stars but I’m rounding down for the bad smell. Remember to check in on Unilocal for 10% off your order! No need to tip because they include a service charge.

Frustrated that Philly lacked Hong Kong styled desserts. Came upon this little café where they served the delicious tongsui and snacks. The place is a nice place to hangout I guess. There are touch screen computers next to each table in case you get bored I guess. Ordered the Mario brothers. Which is two scoops of Icecream of your choice. Plus one fruit topping and of course coconut sago. I had mine with a scoop of green tea and lychee with strawberries. The dessert tasted really good! The coconut milky soup was really tasty and topped with Icecream was great! I would love to come back next time I crave a sweet snack :)
