Although most of the 3 star and under reviews are referencing poor service, my experience was great! Our waitress was super sweet and very attentive, food was delicious and drinks were nice and strong. Caipirinhas were hitting spot and paired well with the skirt steak we ordered. The cheese bread balls were fresh and warm when they got to the table, yucca fries equally good. The skirt steak was prepared just right with caramelized onions and veggies, sautéed spinach along with rice and black beans on the side. What really made the food exceptional was their chimichurri sauce. Great experience, small little hole in the wall tucked away in Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. You gotta check this place out.

I went to this restaurant this weekend for my birthday dinner. Most places in NYC charge a pretty penny to have a 20+ party for dinner. Miss Favela was incredibly accommodating and the prices were reasonable. There is no «private party» section and the restaurant is pretty small, but the vibe and atmosphere was great. There are about 5 or 6 tables and we had the tables moved once my party wanted to dance. I regret that I didn’t have more people come. They only allow 20 – 25 people on 1 tab, but you can easily get another 20 friends to reserve under separate tabs, and just like that– you basically have the whole restaurant to yourself :)(except for the bar). The food was great and you get your money’s worth. Most of my guests had to take food home. My birthday cake was delicious!!! The drinks were delicious, though the lemonade was a little bitter. The DJ was awesome. We are not Brazilian and we wanted to hear a popular Afro Caribbean song; he was able to find it. He tried to work with all of our complicated requests for music. Again, the atmosphere was amazing. Everyone, including the other patrons there that night, were incredibly friendly. Muito Obrigada to the staff there! I will definitely go back.

Visited this place on a Saturday night. Great music and I saw great looking food on people’s plate. My down fall with this place was how small the drinks were. They serve cocktails in small glasses that you can finish in 1 ½ mouth full. For the prices of their find the cups should have been a lot bigger.

In summary, they have the absolute worst service. And by worst service, I mean rude and flat out dishonest. The waiter was completely clueless. He would come to the table with wrong items, then leave without our order. He had to chase him to actually take our order down several times. The worst part came with the bill. By the way, the bill is handwritten and this place is cash only and super overpriced. The waiter comes over and brings us the check on the official restaurant handwritten receipt, and says that since he had already closed out our bill before our last round he needed us to pay for the extra amount on the side. He, no kidding, then hands me a pink sticky note with the«extra» drinks on it. 1) what do you mean you had closed out the bill? The official check is hand writing, if that was the case, than just write the extra order on it too(there was plenty of empty space), 2) No, we had not ordered those extras and we had been counting how many drink we had because we were concerned about running into this problem in this restaurant. So…I tell the waiter nicely that«No, we had X caipirinhas and X beers», the sticky note was a joke. He was probably going to keep that for himself or something. Anyways, he had already been rude the entire night, but now he started using curse words .I supposed in an effort to intimidate us. He comes back with another bill and tell us that we are drunk and we don’t even know how many we had and that we are stealing from HIM. I thought it was interesting that he said HIM and not the restaurant, it comes to show that the extra no the bill was a little extra for him… clearly! If he had just come back with the right check we would have paid it and stayed for the rest of the night drinking and dancing. That was our plan. But he accused us of stealing and proceeded to use other curse words in Portuguese(with I speak). At this point I request for the manager to come over because this guy is just completely out of hand. When the manager comes over, magically the sticky note he had previously given us as part of the bill disappears and he claims I was the one cursing at him and saying I was not going to pay and etc. Needless to say this waiter got an ear full from me in front of his manager. I think It goes without saying that I will never go back to this place. Being from Brazil myself I knew to pay close attention to what I consume because this practice of passing on unordered itens to customs is embarrassingly common in Brazil. It was so aggravating to see that these Brazilians chose to show and perpetuate the ugly and corrupt side of Brazil. A night that was supposed to be about celebrating our food and music quickly turned into a night of sadness. Hopefully one day Brasil and this restaurant will understand the value of being honest. Only then their business will thrive. Good luck. will never ever go back. To those curious are Brazilian culture and food, please seek the other 10000 restaurantes there are in NY and remember to double check your bill.

Worst experience! I Never write reviews but this place deserves it. happened Last Saturday 11-14-2015. First of all they only accept cash, second it is expensive for the food they serve, third food is not like in Brazil and I’m Brazilian, and forth and most importantly: the services are horrible and one waiter in especial was the rudest person I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant/bar. They brought the check and it was wrong(they were charging more than we have consumed), my friend told the guy that the check was wrong and he replied saying that we were drunken girls and we didn’t know how to calculate or count our own drinks and that we were stealing from the bar. He then started to curse on us in Portuguese!!! it was a terrible experience. At the end the manager came and corrected the check. It was the first time I did not pay tips they don’t deserve at all! Will never go back. Make sure you people know exactly what you are consuming in that place. like most places in brazil, they over charge and put stuff on your check, so you pay more.

This place is for a good time. The food is ok, not a fan of their drinks or that they don’t accept credit cards. But for fun, this is a good spot. Be prepared for it to get extremely crowded on the weekend.

For drinks only the place is ok. If you’re looking to eat, I do not recommend. The place is way too loud and the food is definitely not worth the price. Food is way overpriced for what really is.

Waited 45 minutes at a not-busy bar to get three beers. Completely ignored by every server at the bar until I thankfully made eye contact with someone and they had to serve me. Then when I tried to pay, with a handful of cash, I was given a sassy«don’t have time for you» finger wave by a bartender. I’ve been to some bad bars and restaurants, but never so bad that I wrote a review about it. Until now. I don’t recommend this place. It’s Williamsburg — there are much better options.

The service here is terrible. Food took forever to come out for 4 people. When I asked the waitress about our food, she asked us to move over to make room for another party, and IF we moved, then MAYBE the food will come out! My medium stake was dry and gamey, and my food was super salty. I’ve also seen one of the waiters take a smoke break right by the door(which blew all of the cigarette smoke inside), the came right back to serve food. Did you even wash your hands dude? Also the bill is not itemized which is super shady. Not sure how 4 entrees and a round of drinks added up to $ 175!!! Oh I know it’s that 25% suggested gratitude everyone is talking about. They try to make it look like it’s part of the bill, but don’t fall for it! For crappy service and crappy tables and chairs, we did not pay the suggest tip. Also to serve $ 20-$ 55 entrees and be cash only is ridiculous.

Definitely have to give this place 5stars due to service and absolutely amazing drinks and food, I gladly appreciate to have this restaurant recommended to me. I sat at the bar and of course got the caipirinha went straight for it tried a few different flavors(caju, kiwi and acai ect … must say best in town ! I got the misto for 2 which contains skirt steak chicken sausage, rice beans, fries and sautéed onions perfect portion for 2 and for the price you can’t beat had to take some home it tasted delicious. Love the hipster décor and perfect playlist music had me on a great vibe. But all appreciation goes to the bartender Antonio due to his great service and friendly humor and making me and my friend feel welcomed we will definitely be returning for a weekend to enjoy the live band !

I heard such great things about this place but was thoroughly disappointed. I would compare Miss Favela to a Latin Boston Market… all the dishes basically had the same flavor… oil. Our plan was to order all the appetizers and have copious amounts of alcohol. Sadly, our plan was thwarted by the manager who insisted we «didn’t meet their food minimum». So we were coerced into ordering two of everything. We ate half of what was ordered… We won’t be back and I would not recommend this place to anyone I consider a friend. Also, the music was obnoxiously loud and we had to scream at each other all night to have any sort of conversation. Two thumbs down Miss Favela.

The worst service in town!!! The waitress literally kicked us out of our table while we were still eating and charged us 25% tip! The ambience is very casual and fun, but the waitress ruined it for everyone making it impossible to enjoy the live music.

Chewy steak, 30 $ over charge(but sweet waitress), cash only… We didn’t see it on menu. Manager told us to come in to «talk» about not having cash. He didn’t have time to come to the table. Totally tacky. Luckily my GF found her ATM card… Gratuity added to 2 person check. But, hey! Awesome music and Pão de Queijo… Hence the Star.

I do not like giving bad reviews but this place earned it today. In summary: 1. Disorganized 2. Rude waitress 3. Clueless server 4. Açai bowl was completely melted, took a sip of it and chipped two teeth. The bowl was broken and the ceramic pieces were in the bottom of the bowl. I complained and got a new one! I said we did not want it, rude waitress didn’t let us speak and yelled«its cancelled» slammed the bill and walked away. NOAPOLOGIES. Place is CASHONLY. ATM is inside in the«mens bathroom» We were two people and they included the tip in the total. NEVERAGAIN

The tables outside were encrusted with dirt and the chairs kept folding in. We ordered caipirinha’s because the waitress said they were their specialty. They tasted like any house cocktail. Food was ok, the vegetarian plate should really be shared by two. My main gripe about this place is the terrible service. They are basically absent. When our waitress asked if we needed change, she had the audacity of taking her tip(20%) out before returning the difference. WTF?!

The only reason I’m giving them one star is because the food is actually delicious. The service is great, too. What’s strange and presumptive is the payment policy. The check comes out with a suggested gratuity; that’s fine. It’s also fine that the place is cash only; fair enough. What’s problematic is getting your check back with a) the suggested gratuity already taken and b) the change being rounded DOWN to the nearest dollar, benefitting the restaurant. I kinda get the reason for just taking the suggested gratuity without asking. Tourist Europeans who aren’t used to the custom. But don’t call it suggested and then take it. It’s rude and presumptive. When I asked about the rounding down of the final amount it was explained that, «oh, we’re cash only so we don’t have coins.» No, «cash» includes coins, my dear. These both seem like a super shady restaurant policy that breach the trust between customer and server that make me never want to go back there again. A shame, too.

Food: 8⁄10 Ambience: 9⁄10 Service: 8⁄10 Overall great experience! Came here with a group of friends. There was live music and everyone was dancing around the restaurant. The space felt a bit small but it was probably because we were feasting in the middle of a Brazilian dance party. Definitely try the Churrasco Misto(for 2) — grilled prime cut, pork and chicken — amazing. We ordered a ton of pitchers and dishes but this was by far the group’s favorite dish. TIP: This place is CASHONLY. If you don’t have enough cash, there is an ATM in the restroom.

Favela is the Brazilian term for slum, which is the theme they play to. The tables and chairs all have a rust finish and the bar and floors all show some wear. The place has a very«lived-in» feel so to speak. The food however is anything but slummy(and with matching prices to boot). They serve the water in a big glass bottle for the table which is something I like. Additionally every table is given some salsa and a nut-based flour which is meant to go with the meat, sadly I forgot to try it out, but they also provide an amazing hot sauce(more on that later.) We ordered the churrasco which is a small grill piled high with meats. Beef, pork, sausage, and chicken! The dish also came with fries which was unusual for a churrasco. The fries themselves though were phenomenal. They were put on the grill with onions and red and green peppers and the cooked vegetable flavor had permeated all the fries making each bite just explode with flavor. The restaurant also provided a bottle of their home made habanero sauce. This is one of the best hot sauces I’ve ever had. Spicy, but not so spicy that it over powers the flavor of what you’re eating, and at the same time not so spicy such that you could taste the other flavors in the sauce. Needless to say I slathered it all over my meat. Be careful though as it does still contain significant amounts of habanero, it started to creep up on me towards then end and I had to take a break. For dessert I had the passion fruit mousse, which as you might expected tasted like passion fruit with the texture of a mousse. Sweet but not too heavy. Price wise its on the high end of the $$ indicator Unilocal gives, I would personally give it $$$, but the food is good. I would come by again.
