I have been a regular for over 4 years at Marquet, and just this week discovered this fine local lunch, pastry, and coffee spot is closing. I’m truly saddened to hear this news and wish there was a way to keep this place open for business. The staff, the food, and the setting has been respite for many of the folks employed in the Ft. Greene area. Such a sad loss.

Three words: fifty-cent cookies. FIFTY-CENTCOOKIES, people. How many places do you know in the 5 boroughs where you can actually purchase a cookie for 50 cents? I just visited this cute little place for the first time for a hot chocolate and couldn’t resist a 50 cent ginger snap on the side. The ginger snap was quite delicious, and the rest of the goodies in the display case looked fabulous as well. The lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful, which is always a plus. My hot chocolate is good, not great. I’m still waiting for it to cool down enough for me to get a good taste. But overall, I’m quite pleased. I’ll definitely return for treats.

I have a substance dependency issue. I have tried to quit for many years. I try to cut down. I try not to think about it. But alas, I am addicted. Hi, my name is Vivian, and I am a caffeine fiend.* This probably all stems from the long hours I work, and at 3AM, caffeine is the only thing that will prop my eyes open(well I could use toothpicks, but I don’t think others would apprecite it when looking at me). I know I am addicted. When I wake up and I don’t have a cup of joe, my head starts to pound. I am in withdrawal. That is when I am like a rabid animal, out and about lurking for coffee. Luckily for me and my addiction, Marquet is only 2 blocks away. The place is narrow, but cozy. Service is prompt and friendly. On a hot day, the iced coffee is refreshing. They also have simple syrup, so you’re not stuck with sugar granules at the bottom of your drink. Thanks Marquet for the coffee fix. *Perhaps this addiction is not so bad. Large quantities of coffee consumption can prevent diabetes.

Strangely enough I’ve never tried any of the pastries, but I’ve had most of the breakfast items and many of the sandwiches by now. Every breakfast item I’ve had has been very good – it’s hard to go wrong with bacon, eggs and cheese on a baguette, but their omelets and such are light and tasty as well. As for sandwiches, my favorite by far is the turkey cranberry club. Other sandwiches I’ve had here include the tuna salad, the fried tilapia, and the croque madame, all of which were, disappointingly, just a bit bland. The burgers are kind of the same way, though they make up for this in size and a heaping serving of always hot, crisp fries on the side. Come to think of it, the burgers might taste a bit better if they were slightly smaller and thinner. Everything is reasonably priced here though, and the service is good, if not overly friendly, so I can’t complain. One of my favorite lazy-Sunday-afternoon spots.

This is the best lunch spot in the area. The food is very good and reasonably priced, and the service is friendly and attentive. I’ve never had anything but a good meal here.

I love this place & the workers. Their coffee is delicious(iced coffee included) and their food is really yummy. It does fluctuate from time to time as to whether it is amazing or just ok but it’s mostly due to the chef who, in my opinion, can be really lazy — trust me, I work in the area and have seen him plenty of times. The baristas are really nice and quick and the cupcakes are AWESOME. Get the strawberry cupcake, you’ll be so happy you did. Their burgers are among the best, way better than Burger 67 and it’s pretentious subpar EXPENSIVE burgers. Keep it simple and come here.

on last visit, my burger tasted a little funky and they had replaced the thin cut fries with thick crinkly ones. Not very happy.

I’ve only had their breakfast special, once on a baguette and on a croissant. I’ll admit the croissant version was a lot better. It was falky, buttery and delicious. Their eggs were fluffy, slightly peppery and sprinkled with herbs. Their coffee is consistently good. I should go back to see which kind of bean they use. Their confections like lemon bars and flourless chocolate cake look so good and are reasonably priced.

You’ve got to try the pastries. Sometimes I pick up some fluffy croissants for breakfast business meetings. I’m sure Marquet is part of why they often go well. The almond croissants are absolutely delicious. I often get asked about these. They are so good! Feel like you’re in France while you’re at the office. Also the chocolate croissants are nice and decadent too. Beautiful rich flavors for a nice treat in the morning.

Right around the corner from where I work, so it gets points for convenience. But it’s generally reasonably priced, I like the goat cheese salad, and the iced coffee is pretty good, too. Sandwiches aren’t as good. Pasteries look amazing, although I have never indulged…
