Quick history: Patsy Grimadli owned Grimaldi’s. It was very popular even Michelle Obama called it the best pizza she has ever had(who is from Chicago, ouch). He retired and sold the name. The location moved to a bigger place next door. He didn’t like that people were saying the pizza tasted different so he came out of retirement. He made Julianas where ok Grimaldi’s was, named after his mother. I know this because I went on a tour in Brooklyn. So! My friend and I had to try it. It was delicious. 5 min wait on Friday at 6;30 ish, lunch time does get packed! And, Patsy Grimaldi came!!! It was AWESOME. He came and sat people down and just walked around and socialized with customers. Thought that was really sweet and cool. This place has heart! Dude came out of retirement just so that I can have this pizza lol. very delicious

If I could give 10 stars I would. The pizza is always absolutely delicious! The best pizza in Brooklyn. Will you wait over an hour to get in? Yes, but not always. There were times I only waited 15 – 30 minutes. Once you dig your teeth into their pizza, you will forget the long wait time. Once you take a bite of this pizza it will be hard to eat any other pizza. Lucali’s and Grimaldi’s are good too, but they are not as good as Juliana’s. This is the real Grimaldi’s anyway.

I’d tried Grimaldi’s next door but had heard that Juliana’s was way better, so needless to say, I was super stoked about trying out their pizza! We were in line waiting for a spot, but decided to just order take out instead so we could go enjoy our pizza on the pier. It was a super simple process, and the entire order took less than 15 – 20 minutes to be completed. Plus, you don’t have to wait in line! You can just head inside to the counter, pick up and pay for your pizza, and be on your merry way! I’d definitely recommend this option if the weather is nice outside and you don’t really care to dine in. I ordered a margherita pizza so I could do a direct comparison between Grimaldi’s and Juliana’s. Unfortunately, I found Juliana’s version a little less flavorful and much less satisfying than Grimaldi’s. No doubt the ingredients were just as fresh, but I felt like the pizza was lacking the oomph I had expected. Although I liked that the pizza tasted healthy and guilt-free, that’s not really what I’m looking for in a cheesy, carby slice! I’m definitely looking forward to a second go though, and next time I will be sure to order a pie that isn’t as plain as a margherita pizza.

Came here yesterday afternoon with a friend and the line was mad long. Friend told me this place got better reviews than Grimaldi’s, and when we approached this estblishment, I saw the pizza that people were eating outside. I was like DAMN there’s no way this place is going to be bad because that pizza looks BANGING. Since the place was crowded, we got a ‘large’ Margherita Pizza to go and ate at a table outside. The pizza came out to like $ 22 total with tax included, which isn’t bad at all. You know how some food LOOKS awesome, but tastes disappointing? That was my experience. The pizza is mad thin and I noticed there is such a minimal layer of sauce, cheese, and basil on the pie. It’s almost like you’re just eating a thin layer of dough without anything on it. Don’t get me wrong; it certainly wasn’t horrible, but I was expecting something amazing and it fell far short. It was satisfying, but could have used double the portion of sauce, cheese, and herbs that it came with. I can say though that the bites that did contain a substantial amount of the aforementioned ingredients were quite satisfying. Very disappointing because I wanted to like it more. It feels like it’s all hype to me.

So I really wanted to try an «Authentic New York Pie». We looked up some recommendations on Google and Unilocal and decided to check this place out since it was near the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s a really nice little pizza place. It was quite busy! They had an area in the front to line up since there were people waiting to be seated. We were greeted by a gentleman and led us to the hostess that was going to show us to our table. They were friendly and we were seated pretty quickly considering it was a full house. You can actually watch them make the pizzas as there was a marble counter you can sit at with a glass pane. They were making them right by the oven but they didn’t seem to break a sweat(or lose any eyebrows!) We couldn’t decide between the Margherita pizza and the White pizza even though the Margherita seems to be a Unilocalers favourite. It was awesome to be able to order both on one pizza! The crust was so thin and crispy yet still a bit chewy. The White pizza was cheesy and awesomely garlicky(Is that even a word???) But I definitely loved the Margherita pizza! The sauce was delicious and sweet and the mozzarella was nice and and gooey and stretched out with every bite. I’m salivating just thinking about it again while writing this review. Now I usually love dipping sauce for my crust but the dough was so tasty that I didn’t even miss it! They also have some local beers available and decided to try the lager. It definitely compliments the pizza. I want to go back and try more menu items!

Went back to Juliana’s for a second time and fell in love EVENMORE! Even though we had to wait about 40 minutes this time around, it was well worth it. The Caesar salad with anchovies and green olives was pure perfection(might need to get it every time now). I never opt for a white pie, but I was in the mood to try something new. Being that the BF was starving, we got a LARGE pie — half margarita with pepperoni mushrooms and half white with fennel sausage. To my surprise, I couldn’t get enough of the white pie! It wasn’t overly cheesy or creamy(which is why I usually lean towards a red pie) and the fennel sausage was its perfect compliment. Juliana’s may have turned me on to a whole new pizza page. But don’t worry my dearest marinara sauce, I will always love you first.

I didn’t feel like going completely mainstream and eating at Grimaldi’s, but I also wanted generally well-vetted pizza in Dumbo, so Juliana’s it was. There was no line when we arrived on a Friday around noon, which was a little unsettling at first, but a) it was packed inside, and b) a roped-off line quickly formed behind us once we got in. We shared two small special pizzas(16″) for four people and we had a bunch left over. No. 1(feat. pancetta, scallions, white truffle slices): a very solid non-tomato pizza. I was worried this combination would be too much(read: salty af), but as it turns out, the flavors were as subtle and mild as pancetta/truffle/double cheeses can get. Not too strong of a truffle taste, either, so that can be good or bad depending on your truffle preferences. No. 4(feat. tomato, arugula, prosciutto): Tasted exactly how it reads. Nothing sexy, but a good balance between the bitterness of the arugula and the mellowness of the tomato sauce. I wouldn’t rush back to order again, but it was executed well. Crust: here’s where I was impressed. The crusts on both our pizzas walked that fine, fine line between crisp and overcooked, resulting in firmly flexible slices(you feel my oxymoron right?). That doesn’t happen often enough in NY pizzas, so I’d come back to Juliana’s just on this basis. Overall, I wouldn’t mind returning to Juliana’s, now that I know what it’s about, but I would have to be in the area. Too many other pizzas to try before making a special trip out here again!

Yellllo NYC! I spent my Memorial Day Weeeekend in NYC and discovered this heavily talked about pizza business here in Brooklyn, New York! To start off, this restaurant has a quite story behind itself. The location can also be a little confusing since the line zig-zags across its neighbor and parent restaurant, Grimaldi’s. It’s NY pizza after all, y’all almost can’t go wrong. Do you guys a favor and fold that thin slice in half please, just save y’all from looking like an idiot eating pizza the traditional way… I had a party of five around dinner time and the line wasn’t terribly long. We got seated in about 30 mins. Grimaldi’s had the line down the block. I don’t care how you tell me but both places only have one cooking oven. So if you are in a hunger moment come to Juliana’s. However, Grimaldi’s has two floors, way more spacious than this. The quality of the pizza was decent. We ordered the specialty pizza #1 and #2. I enjoyed 1 more than 2. 2 tasted way too salty for my own good. That also made me chug 3 glasses of water. Price? 30 $ per pizza… I consider this to be a tad more on the pricey side than other places & it wasn’t up to par in flavor either. Maybe I didn’t order the right pizza? None the less, I had a worthy time here to say I have experienced the pizza here. Thank Brooklyn, it’s been real.

OMG. I think I have died and gone to pizza heaven!!! We all know NYC is the Mecca of pizza, but I have to say I don’t think there is another restaurant that can beat this one! It was well worth the trip in to Brooklyn & well worth the wait! Juliana’s, right next door to better known Grimaldi’s(actually this is the original location for Grimaldi’s) and the owner is none other than the Grimaldi family, from what we were told. Open kitchen concept so you can watch the pizza chefs make your pie — they even have counter seating right near the prep area. The restaurant is tiny, so be prepared to wait — whether you are there for lunch or dinner — but it is well worth it. We started with salads, which were tasty and fresh. The dressing on the arugula salad was AMAZING! Salads are definitely enough for 2 to share. We had a half white pie/half margherita(added ricotta & extra basil) as well as a margherita with pepperoni. We ordered two small pizzas(for 3 people) and had enough to take some back to the hotel for later! The pizza was hot and the coal fired crust is light & crispy, but still pliable enough to fold and eat! My husband loves the little pepperoni too! We had to wait for our white pie, as the waiter didn’t order it correctly, and we were brought a margherita with ricotta. Our waiter even read the order back to us after we placed it, so not sure what happened. Would have been nice to offer a discount, or maybe a free soda. Although he did apologize(after questioning what we ordered), the runner who originally brought our pie out was a little rude when we said it was incorrect. The customer service piece is the ONLY reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5! They only serve beer & wine, definitely try some of the local Brooklyn brews! Wine selection is just OK. We didn’t have dessert, though they looked amazing too… We were just too full! After dinner we walked back to Manhattan over the bridge, which was a perfect ending to our night! I’m in NY about every other month and I will definitely be back here again!

Ooohhhh where do I begin? 5 stars really does not do this place justice.( Unilocal, you need to invest in adding 5 more stars :)) On a recent trip to Brooklyn, New York, with my family, we were deciding where to eat for dinner(as there are millions of places to go in New York). My brother’s father-in-law told us about Juliana’s so we decided to go ahead and give it a try. This place did not disappoint. The line outside is usually long, which isn’t a surprise as the pizza is amazingly good. While my patience is usually thin, I don’t mind waiting for good food. Fortunately, we were able to get seated in about 20 minutes. When we walked in, it immediately put me back in time to the 1950 – 1960’s era(I’m only 20 so it didn’t really put me back anywhere lol). However, the décor is reminiscent of the Hollywood Golden Age(the time of Audrey Hepburn and Frank Sinatra, among other famous actors, actresses, etc) When you walk in, you hear Frank Sinatra’s music playing(which I absolutely love!), along with photo’s of him on the wall. The ambience of Juliana’s is what I would describe as Elegant-Casual. The décor, being of the Hollywood Golden Age is obviously elegance in itself. Everything from the menu to the wines that they choose are the pure definition of elegance. However pizza is not a food you’d find at a 5 star restaurant and Juliana’s is great for family lunches/dinners, a date night, or just a great spot for after work, which is why I would also describe it as casual. Writing about the pizza is difficult because its hard to put into words the expertly seasoned taste of the pizza. We ordered a large Garlic, Mushroom, Pepperoni, Mozzarella and Sweet Onion Pizza. The mozzarella is nothing like the mozzarella you get on your pizza from pizza hut. The mozzarella is fresh, homemade mozzarella made from scratch that melts in your mouth and puts tears to your eyes when you take a bite. Juliana’s makes true authentic pizza pies. I’m not a New York native, but I don’t believe I’ll ever find another pizza pie like Juliana’s. All of the ingredients are fresh, even the drinks that you order are true and authentic. I ordered a Cream soda, which tasted like a REAL cream soda, Not the bottled kind you buy from the store. The size of the pizza’s are large as well. Juliana’s definitley doesn’t hold back. 2 large pizzas were just enough for the 5 of us. If you’ve read my previous reviews, you know I’m big on Customer Service and Juliana’s did not fall short of my expectations. The owner, is very personable and down to earth. He doesn’t view you as just another customer but he treats you as if your part of his own family. All the waitors were very nice and helpful as well. Even though I live in Baltimore, I honestly have no problem driving the 3+ hours in rain or shine just to go to Juliana’s. I am completely in love with this place and I can’t wait to come back. I hope all of you will try Juliana’s whether your a New York native or not, and experience the true gem of the city that never sleeps :)

Their pizza is delicious. I could just leave it at that but I can’t. We ordered a number one, their best seller. Man the taste explosion alone was worth the 40 minute wait in line to get in. The pizza is clean and light(hard to usually say about pizza) and tastes great. Big fan of the green onion accent on the pizza. I should say though, now that I’ve eaten in, next time I might order take out if the line was as long as it was. The dine in experience good, but not anything special. The wait staff was very nice and quick.

I had Juliana’s bookmarked for a while, so yesterday my friends and I decided to head out to Brooklyn for some pizza after spending the morning in Central Park. I gathered from other Unilocal reviews that this was a popular spot for tourists, so I was prepared for a line out the door. We got there around noon, and while there was a line it wasn’t too bad — we waited about 15 minutes at the most. The interior crams a lot of tables into the space but it has a very open feel to it — I didn’t feel cramped at all. The kitchen is open which creates a nice focal point and the neutral color scheme keeps the main focus on the food. One of my friends noticed they made egg creams, so for nostalgia sake we decided to order some. I went with vanilla(they also come in chocolate) and it totally brought me back to my childhood — a real special treat. We started out with a salad which contained cucumber, red onion, tomato, arugula, frise, goat cheese, walnuts, and house dressing. It was good — flavors worked well and the dressing wasn’t overwhelming. I’m a sucker for anything with goat cheese so it was definitely a winner. There were three of us, so we decided to split two small-size pies. We chose the margherita and the special no.1 pizza(mozzarella, scamorza affumicata, pancetta, scallions, white truffles, and olive oil). The pizzas were very good — super thin crust and full of flavor. They were also generously sized which left us with plenty to take home. Service was good — our waiter was very friendly and always made sure we were taken care of(with a line outside the door you can be sure you won’t be forgotten). Overall I had a great experience here and would definitely come back to try more pizza and their other offerings.

So I knew I had to have New York-style pizza at least once during my NYC trip and my friend suggested/bookmarked this place for quite some time so we decided to check it out. It was convenient for us because it was in DUMBO area and we just finished having our photoshoot there so why not enjoy some authentic Brooklyn/New York-style pizza? :) There wasn’t a huge line when we came so I was pleased that we only had to wait about 15ish minutes. As you may have heard, Juliana’s used to be the original Grimaldi’s but moved next door to this location and changed their name to Juliana’s. I was surprised to see two pizza places right next to each other competing for customers haha. I was honestly really excited to try New York-style pizza for the first time, especially after trying Chicago deep dish pizza several years back. When we went inside, we decided to order a large size of the Number 1 Pizza Special which comes with: mozzarella, scamorza affumicata, pancetta*(Italian bacon), scallions and Oregon-grown white truffles in olive oil – no tomato and some Arugula salad. Since it’s a special, you can’t order half of this and half of another pizza combo. As soon as I had my first bite… like omegawd… it was so effin delicious!!! It was served fresh and hot and I now know why New York-style pizza is so famous/popular and monumental to every New Yorker haha. I really enjoyed how thin the thin crust was and there was a lot of flavor in the Number 1 special. Salad was nice and light. Service was great as well! The reason I gave 4 starts instead of 5 was because for me, I get really bad heartburn easily and after having 3 large slices of pizza, my stomach didn’t feel too well. I kinda expected it because pizza is one of the few meals that actually gives me really bad heartburn but hey, it was so worth. I would say that the pizza was also a bit salty because of the Italian bacon scattered on top of it but I definitely enjoyed my experience at Juliana’s :)

This is apparently THEBROOKLYNPIZZA according to my friend who has been living in Brooklyn all his life. And indeed, it’s a really yummy place at a fantastic location! It used to be Grimaldi’s but moved to this location and changed their name as well, I hear. So if you’re looking for the original Grimaldi’s, this is it. If you are ever visiting BBP or around Dumbo, a must go place to have some real NYC pizza We sat on the counter on a wed night around 8pm and there was no wait, fortunately. 10min later there was a line outside! Come here at an off time or you will wait! We ordered a large half-margherita and half-white with prosciutto all over for 2 of us and it was huge! And delish! We had 3 slices left over. I personally like the margherita better because I am a red sauce fan. Prosciutto didn’t have to be on there to get the full flavors, so don’t think I will get it next time. Maybe arugula will taste even fresher! Knocked off 1 star for the price… Little too fancy for a pizza. One large slice for a non-specialty pizza can go up to $ 30 without fancy ingredients.

So we were in the mood for pizza and we thought this would be the perfect place. We knew we would never find parking and the line was down the block and around the corner, so we decided to do take out. What a blessing! It is def a lot quicker and as longer as you have somewhere/someone to double park the car at the Johnny pump your good. So I jumped out and ordered. It really didn’t take to long about 25 minutes. When walking into order it was beautiful. A lot different from when I last seen it a bunch of years ago. Its dark wood, clean and looks a lot bigger. You still have the guys in the back making the pies in the open, with the coal oven. What a tradition. The menu is very different from the old one, it was more traditional with a limited toppings and a few apps. The new menu has a lot more variety. It’s also a lot more expensive! We settled on a lg fresh mozz with prosciutto and arugula and two waters. We were super happy. The ingredients were fresh. The pizza crust was crispy, light and fluffy. Just like its suppose to be. The pizza was just amazing even though it was take away. The staff was super helpful. Unfortunately the only downfall was The bottled water. They were really expensive and they were Dasani which is a crappy product but we know for the next time. We Loved the food and def will be back! You should def go visit. Parking unfortunately stinks!(247)

I’m definitely a pizza lover and love trying new pizza places all over brooklyn, and Juliana’s has definitely set the bar high! My boyfriend and I came on Monday afternoon to hangout in DUMBO and obviously go to Juliana’s to eat lunch. When we got to Juliana’s, their was a long line, but it moved relatively quickly. Since we were only 2 we were lucky and got to go in before the two groups of 6 in front of us. The smell in the restaurant just when walking in makes your mouth water, and made me even more excited to try this raved about pizza. Once we were seated our server(I believe his name was Michael) came over quickly brought us some menus and took our drink orders. The menu doesn’t have a huge amount of options, but it does have something to satisfy anyone’s cravings. Their are a few speciality pies on the menu and than the basic Margarita pie with so many different toppings you can choose to put on your pizza. We decided to go with the spinach salad to split and a margarita pie with sausage. WELL… the spinach salad was delicious, the balsamic glaze and feta cheese really pulled the whole salad together. I would suggest anyone going to definitely try that salad. As for the pizza all I can say is OMG. In my opinion, Julianna’s is definitely top 3 pizza places that I’ve gone to in Brooklyn. The crust, the sauce, the cheese, everything about the pizza was outrageous. I will without a doubt be back here soon!

Amazing, fresh, hot, delicious pizza! It was a warm, sunny day by Dumbo, Brooklyn, when we stumbled upon this gem. The view of downtown Brooklyn also looked ravishing from the front of the restaurant(where a long line accumulated). When we were seated, the waiter catered to us right away. He was very friendly and attentive! We ordered a large pizza pie(with half margherita, homemade meatballs, pepperoni and the other half with white cheese, prosciutto, and mushrooms). You cannot do one half of the specialty pizzas listed on the menu, both only ones that you create from scratch and then add on toppings. The soft drinks were served from the vintage bottle with a straw and they have a great assortment of wines. Each table comes with a pizza stand/holder which can be removed if you are not ordering pizza(but I highly recommend that you try their pizzas at least once)! The wait time for the food was not that long, especially since they are lovingly made from scratch(and baked in their coal fired oven). When I first bit into the pizza slice, I knew that the 45 minute wait standing outside in a long line was worth it. I cannot wait to come back!

I went to Juliana’s the day after I had Lombardi’s. So what is this, my second real New York pizza? Four stars cause I’m saving my five for a pizza that truly gives me a foodgasm. Going here gave me one of those divine realizations as to why New Yorkers are known for folding their pizza. Before,(I’m sorry) I scoffed at this practice. «You eat it faster!» I’d say. I’d grumble, «Makes the pizza too thick!» But when the pizza is so thin… as it was here and at Lombardi’s… it becomes a necessity. Cause the thing is just too flaccid to— er. It gives the pizza some structural integrity. So now I’m a fan of the fold! If you’re lucky, go sit at the bar. There are five magical seats there that give you a front row view of the guys & gals preparing your pizza. For coziness’ sake, they even have the names of your pizzamakers on a little chalkboard by the oven. One man even threw the dough to his coworker, who proceeded to spin and thin it out. If you watch him long enough you can anticipate it and get you slow-mo Snap ready. Fiancée and I ordered a large half-white, half-margherita with pepperoni(Small and large both have 8 slices, btw!). At first I grumbled to her for picking such a basic topping but this pepperoni was far from it! This ain’t your grocery or chain variety. This one’s special. So judge not by the name and try it, at least. Margherita ended up being the preferred side(sauce was so right… and it looked mouthwateringly delicious), but the white pizza was good too(garlicky but good!). They take card too, so no need to seek an ATM! Only bummer was the size of the Coke. It came in a super tiny bottle. Great if you’re tryna watch your calories. Not great if you’re trying to down four pizzas.

Juliana’s is the same owner as Grimaldi’s from what I briefly read on the sign as we were walking in through the door. The ambience of the restaurant was modern and relaxed. Though we went there specifically for the pizza, I was a little disappointed they didn’t have any appetizers on the menu. They did have salads. We ordered a small margherita pizza with prosciutto, house made meatballs and mushroom. The small was a good size for 3 people. The pizza itself was good. My favorite of the ingredients is the meatball! We then tried the cheesecake, didn’t care for the powdered sugar the put on top, and the brookie bridge, which was 2 brownie cookies with ice cream. Oh the drinks are not free refills at least the lemonades were not and I wasn’t offered a refill for my tea either.
