The food is fantastic and if you love sweet, strong Caribbean style drinks, look no further! This place is a favorite of mine!

Really excellent flavors, colorful and energetic atmosphere. It’s first come first serve, and the place is understandably very popular, so expect a waiting list on weekends(though it’s all pretty easy, they text you when your table’s ready, so you can relax and enjoy a drink nearby beforehand). They have Prestige beer from Haiti!

I really love the food here and as someone from West Indian background, I appreciate the care and quality the chefs put into it. It would be nice to expose my son to some of it, but unfortunately this is NOT a kid-friendly restaurant. I know it doesn’t say that it is, but the two occasions I tried to dine there with my son were a bit over the top. The first time I managed to get through the meal with two friends and my kid, but the staff was rude and clearly not happy about having the kid there. The second time I tried to go earlier on Saturday evening knowing that the more crowded it got, the worse it would be. Seating was quick at a communal table and my three old sat next to me. The waiter told me he had to sit on the other side of the communal table, making so if anything were to happen to him, I would have to go around the long table to get to him on the other side. I told him that I need to help eat etc, and he said that the seat next to me would be for other patrons as it would get busy in the next 10 mins. He was uncompromising, saying the only other options were the high bar stools that were dangerous for a 3 year old to sit on. I had no choice but to leave.

HO-LYCRAP this dinner was so good, I can’t stop thinking about it. I just about never post reviews but I’m pretty sure I’m going to have dreams about those amazing peppered shrimp every night until I come back here and order them again. We also had the curried goat, bok choi, plantains and a salad and everything was excellent. And that little cup of heaven they give you at the end of your meal — perfection! They make their own non-dairy coconut ice cream and it was the perfect cool down after a spicy and incredibly flavorful meal. I’m pretty sure it’s actually a bad thing I went here because I’m going to want to come back way more often then I should.

Still upset about how rudely we were treated two weeks when someone in our party of eight joined us after we sat down. This was on a weeknight, just after the restaurant opened and the place was empty. After drinking at the bar for a while, we finally sat down. We ordered food, more drinks, and when the last person arrived the host was so rude. He kept saying she could not join us, he had to leave the last two seats at our table for potential customers. There were nine empty seats in the place the whole time we were there and when a couple came in they were not seated at the two empty seats at the end of our table, nor at the empty seats by the window, but told to wait. I have never been treated so rudely anywhere. I really like the food but I will not be going here again.

My girls and I were literally licking our fingers after we finished. This place had been on my to-go list for the longest time. Heard nothing but good things about it. We ended in Crown Heights and decided to go for supper. The place is super cute. I love the fact that the kitchen is open and we see the meat being grilled. Yum! We basically ordered 80% of the menu and I can honestly say there were no leftovers! The lobster was absolutely delicious. Best lobster I’ve ever had. Curry goat basically falls of the bone and melts in your mouth. The wings are a great starter. And for the vegans out there, get the chow mein. You will absolutely love it! Their cocktails are amazing too. Can’t go wrong with this place.

Open tables. Was sat by the hostess: myself and 2 friends. We were Then told we couldn’t sit and had to move. Table stayed open for 20min. They had the nerve to say another specific tableI was going to be opening any minute– those people just had full plate of food. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t let us sit at the table they sat is us at originally and make money off the table. Manager did not handle the situation with grace. Next time I go in there my motto is going to be, «is it safe to sit?»

Cool little Carribean spot on Franklin. Once inside it has a very island feel to the paint and décor. Very helpful bartender who made us a couple Dark and Stormys(both regular and frozen). The food is simple but pretty good. Menu is very limited. The rice and peas were good, and the jerk chicken had great spice but was chopped in a way that had small bones in some of the bites. I could have done without that part. We stopped back at night and there was a different bartender working who made the cocktails WAY too strong. It was like drinking straight liquor. Those were gross but the ones the day bartender made were great. Definitely stop in from time to time when I’m back in the area.

After a long wait to go there, I finally made it to Glady’s tonight. It may be my new favorite place in Brooklyn. The charming Caribbean restaurant is inviting with its calypso music, friendly hosts and staff, and its island ambience. But the food and drinks are what makes Glady’s really special. I chose the delicious Jerk Pork and the Spiced Slaw, along with the house rum punch(I just returned from the Caribbean, and I couldn’t resist). The pork was amazing — generous chunks of smoked pork meat served on a platter with spice and Jerk sauce on the side. The slaw also was tasty but a bit much as a side for one person. I should have ordered another side like plantains(they were out) to balance the taste and texture of the slaw. The slushy drinks looked fantastic, but I obtained this time due to the $ 5 happy hour rum punch special. I loved everything about my experience, and thank God this little island get away is not far from my place. I can’t wait to experience more.

Food is ah-mazinggggg. Definitely get the Curry Goat! The sauce is so good. Plantains are A+! The food is definitely authentic. Would give it 5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the service. Took pretty long to place our order and took long to get our check.

My first stop in Brooklyn for food night. The staff was very friendly and the food was f-ing delicious! There’s not much to the menu, just got some chicken, rice and slaw. The jerk sauce is outstanding and leaves your mouth with the perfect burn that makes you want to come back for more. Definitely come here if you’re in the neighborhood!

Came for dinner on a Thursday night with a craving for jerk wings — they came out minutes after ordering, piping hot and crispy, deliciously seasoned and served with a sweet sauce on the side. THESEWINGSARETHEBOMBDOTCOM! We also ordered the Pepper Shrimp, Rice & Peas and Plantains. Everything else was perfectly prepared, tasty and arrived quickly. Service was super friendly and attentive — never had to flag anyone down and more than one person checked on us. Nice surprise when the check came — vegan Coconut Cream ice cream! Yummy and an awesome way to end the meal.

Packed! That was my first impression upon entering on a Friday evening. Luckily we just stopped in to get food to go. Had we planned to sit and dine, the wait was more than an hour. The ambiance is loud with reggae music piping and the constant movement of staff attempting to keep up with the demand of a packed restaurant. We stood by the door and waiting for possible 20 – 30 minutes for an order of curry goat and curry chicken. Unlike other Carribean food restaurants that standardly provide plantains and rice and peas, be prepared to order these items separately at Gladys. Ultimately when I got home and tasted the food, I found it to be decent, but given the number of authentic Carribean places in the vicinity, I wasn’t overly impressed as a take home option.

My first time in this place. I liked a lot the decoration. It made me feel like I was in Jamaica or somewhere else in the tropical. The food was good except that it was a little salty for me. That’s the only thing. But the servers did a good job and there is a drink that I fall in love with — Pinkolada?(I’m unsure if it’s written like this) but is almost like Piña Colada and I got at the end some coconut ice cream/sorbet in a tiny cup; it was rich in flavor and not too sweet. I’ll go again to try other dishes and especially to get that drink again. ;)

The food here is VERY good. Very good. Drinks are good too. We tried almost everything on the menu — nothing disappointed. Good flavor and a good amount of spice and heat. Service is meh. Crowded and uncomfortable seating. Inexpensive and a good value. I would return for the food.

Amazing food and drinks! Stumbled upon this place once for dinner and HAD to come back again, so I came recently for lunch. Their dinner menu is more extensive with their shrimp and bok choy dishes(which were both excellent). Their lunch and dinner menu both have the jerk chicken and pork — which are both also must haves. The pork is more salted — so the taste is stronger and some may prefer this to the chicken. This is my happy excuse to come to Crown Heights :)

I received the worst service I have ever had in my life at this restaurant Saturday night. We came as a party of 3 and were told it would be 10 mins for a table okay no problem. When we were sat my friend who is a frequent customer asked if she could order and the hostess said«Um no I’m not a waitress I’m the hostess you can wait til your waitress gets here for your food order but if you want I can put in your drink» okay so we did that. Waitress came with a weird vibe as if she was upset about a previous table we weren’t sure but she was very serious rolling her eyes and seeming a bit impatient. I asked if my boyfriend who was sat in the middle of the rush and having his chair constantly kicked if he could sit next to me instead since there were 2 free seats next to us and we were a bit cramped and she said«NO.» I asked umm why and she said«Because we are still serving food we need to hold that for other people you can’t just take up extra space.» Wtf? So accommodate the imaginary people and not us who are actually sitting here to eat? Okay. So when my friend put her purse on the seat next to her she was asked to REMOVEHERBAGFROMTHECHAIR. Huh? Then when we moved the napkin holder to make room for our food we were told«DONTTOUCHTHAT we have this here as a divider what don’t you understand?» The waitress then gossiped about us to the entire staff while we all watched. Then when we were served our food it was pretty much thrown on the table by the server and the manager threw our slaw so carelessly that she almost knocked down my boyfriends water, the server then moved the divider himself because we clearly didn’t have enough space. The waitress then came up to us and proceeded to tell us we were a mess and asked if we had ever been there before because clearly we are so unfamiliar with how«things go there», it was my first time but my friend lives in the neighborhood and had been there many times. When we asked for our bill the server said I can’t give you the check until your whole table is cleared. …okay. We left within 30mins of being seated upset and confused as to what the hell just happened. I’ve never experienced something like this in my life and I wouldn’t eat there even if you paid me. We were going to ask for the manager but I figured that is pointless, the staff is horrible I’m sure the manager has poor judgement and this business needs help asap. This is not to mentioned the burnt chicken wings and bland lobster. Get a clue.

So I ordered the Jerk half chicken, jerk fried wings, and rice and peas. Overall, the meal was too spicy for me although I wanted to finished(Hey it was so delicious, so tasty!). The half jerk chicken, especially, was very tasty. The wings was type small and a bit crunchy(5 wings for $ 8.00) but tasted good. One other thing about the half jerk chicken was that insides was kind of pink. That told me the chicken was not fully cooked. The pink meat did turn me off a bit but not too the point where I didn’t want to eat it anymore. Glady’s needs to make sure their food is prepared and cook well. Overall, I give 3 stars because the half jerk chicken is a bit too spicy and of the pink meat.

3.5÷5: Glady’s is always a great option when in Crown Heights! Their rum punch is a really good deal during happy hour — it’s only 4 bucks and it packs quite the punch(no pun intended) but is a little small for the regular $ 8 price tag. The jerk chicken is my favorite with the plantains; the pork is good too but can be fatty. Portions are huge — I usually have enough for another meal! The wait staff is very nice but can be impatient when it comes to ordering; the food comes super fast so I usually like to relax and have a drink or two before getting my meal — it’s not uncommon to have the waitstaff hover until you cave and order. It also drives me crazy that you cannot sit down until your whole party is there, especially when the restaurant is empty. I get it with large parties but two people, come on? I guess I will just continue to stand awkwardly near the front until my late friend arrives. Try out Gladys if you’re in the neighborhood or in the mood for a tasty/reasonably priced meal.

Food: I can’t give the best review for food here only because West Indian food isn’t my favorite. Tried the jerk pork which was a little too fatty for me. The Bok Choy side was very flavorful and the plantains were great. Menu is limited but does have vegetarian options Service: decent — the waitresses really tried to accommodate all groups in the small space; we saw everyone receiving complimentary coconut ice cream with their check and had to ask for ours Ambience: warm, cozy. A little too much at the tables, open kitchen, really liked the twinkle lights and bright colors

Dear Gladys, I love you. Your jerk chicken is spicy and moist. Your rice and peas, although different than what I grew up eating(from my Jamaican grandmother), is light and coconut scented and delicious. Deducting one star because the amazing coconut ice cream isn’t available as a dessert — only a complimentary taste. You always leave me wanting more!!!

What a fun place. I must admit that I’d put off coming here because the menu didn’t sound super appealing to me, but that’s my loss as it turns out everything is delicious. One of the things I really liked about Glady’s was how quickly the food came. Not in a fast food sort of way, but just quick. Another thing I like is the unique menu, although as I mention above it did give me pause initially. I’d never had oxtail stew or or curried goat, but I tell you what — I’d have them again.(Although I think the jerk chicken and pork were my favorites.) They had 86ed the fish by the time we got there, so we’ll have to make another trip to try that. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s family-style with shared seating, and on top of that the place is fairly small. That helps give it an intimate vibe, but it’s not for everyone, or every occasion.

My daughter and I came here today for Lunch. I must say this place is pretty cool. It’s very small so don’t expect a huge establishment where there are a lot of seats. The décor of this place is so cozy. I kind of felt like we were on the islands enjoying a great meal. When we walked in we were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress was very nice and she took our order right away. The food I must say is really delicious. We ordered the Jerk chicken, Jerk Pork and rice and peas. All were absolutely delicious. That jerk pork was so tender and just spicy enough. The jerk chicken was on point. We will for sure be returning to try other items on the menu.

I don’t know if this is authentic Caribbean food, but I LOVEIT! I’ve been to Glady’s several times in the past year and have never been disappointed. Great atmosphere and vibe; great service; great drinks; and the food never disappoints! Glady’s has gotten MUCH more popular through the past year, so it gets crowded much earlier now. We’ve never had a problem when coming for 6:30pm dinner before, but now, it’s pretty crowded at 6:30! Must be that Michelin Bib(2015&2016) they’ve received! Congrats for that! Here are the delicious dishes that 6 of us shared: ~ Curry Goat — delicious curry sauce! ~ Jerk Pork — always well seasoned and perfectly cooked; never dry ~ Oxtail Stew — oxtail could have been cooked a tad bit longer, but still pretty good ~ Guyanese Chow Mein — had no idea what to expect when we ordered this, but it was really good! Reminded me of lo mein, but tastier. ~ Jerk Chicken Wings — addictively GREAT! ~ Plantains — they were caramelized, and both sweet & a little bit spicy… mouth-watering goodness! I could have eaten the whole plate by myself! :D At the end of the meal, we all got complimentary Coconut ice cream, which was just bursting with coconut! A fantastic/perfect end to a great meal! Can’t wait to go back! Note: They will not seat you until your entire party has arrived. Tell your people NOT to be tardy! lol

Having been here once before I thought I had a pretty good idea of the quality of food. Boy was I wrong. First thing is after a guy answered the phone and took the food order it was not placed. I got their and had to order again. I got the jerk chicken with rice and peas for $ 12 + tax. I paid and left. My rice was burnt to a crisp and I had to throw it away. I tried feeding it to the pigeons but they turned it down. Smh never again. I drove all the way from Queens to Brooklyn and will be sure to stay clear and warn my friends that live close by!

Glady’s décor reminds me of a true Caribbean restaurant. The seating arrangement, the seemingly openness, bringing in the natural light, the chatter. It’s a place which crowds up quickly from early evening and therefore creates an overflow of customers waiting to be seated. Though the drinks were just«ehhh», and there were not many appetizers or entrées to choose from, the menu is interesting. The wait isn’t extensive after food or drinks are ordered and if anything is needed you will be noticed: the waiters are attentive. After the meal, a tiny, complimentary, delicious scoop of ice cream is served.

The shared tables can be a bit crowded, especially since you are usually sharing plates. My friend really enjoyed the curry goat. The peppered shrimp came whole, so be prepared for that. I thought the seitan was over seasoned and the peas and rice were a bit bland. The bartender was the most friendly, otherwise we felt a bit rushed.

This, is where hipsters go to get Caribbean food. Gentrification is a hell of a thing. A few short blocks over on Nostrand, the scene is COMPLETELY different, but I guess Glady’s is a sign of the change creeping slowly across this once Caribbean neighborhood. There’s kitschy island tunes playing in the background, and your Jamaican fare is served up in a safe, hipster-friendly manner. Let’s not mince words here… the food is straight up bland. The rice and peas looked like a plate of white rice with about 3 peas in it. A Jamaican grandmother rolled over in her grave when that was brought out to me. The jerk chicken, while it tasted okay, felt like it was just reheated from last night. Ditto for the plantains. And the ackee and saltfish was just tasteless. An entire generation of Jamaican grandmothers rolled over with that one. Oye… perhaps they were having an off day. I was here for brunch, and was thoroughly disappointed by the experience. The two stars are for the ambiance, cuz it’s a nice place. Maybe the dinner is better? Who knows… I certainly won’t be back to try it. Too many other good options just a few blocks away to risk another disappointing meal.

I’ve been here several times. This time I feel inclined to write a review! The jerk fried wings are BOMB! So damn good. Fried to perfection. Rice and peas are classic. I love when the rice is a little mushy… sounds strange but amazing. Plantains are so freaking good. The portions are big for the sides. Definitely try the pulled pork hash. Ok the downside. The food is a little salty. Mostly the pulled pork hash is salty but it’s still a good taste. This is why I gave it 4 stars. That saltiness needs to subside a little. All in all I recommend this place. Also don’t forget to order a pain killer.

Holy Caribbean brunch! I recently came here with a group and ordered everything: Fried Turned Corn Meal, Ackee and Saltfish, Solomon Gundy Scramble, Rice and Peas, and Plantains. Everything was scrumptious. I love stumbling upon an unconventional brunch menu that not only offers unique dishes, but delivers on quality and flavor. Also, they have an insane selection of rum/rhum/ron with some delicious sounding cocktails that I can’t wait to come back and try. Good service and chill atmosphere. It really does make you feel like you’re in the Carribean.

Just moved to the area, and Im super hype this spot is in my neighborhood. I’ll start off by saying that the service provided to me at the bar(bartender: shannon) was ridiculously perfect!!! She was super attentive and friendly. I even had great vibes from the rest of the staff, including the servers. Everyone just looked happy to be working there — and thats always a plus. I ordered the oxtail dish with the side of bok choy. I’ve never tried(or even heard of) bok choy, and let me tell you, Im totally a fine. it was super good!!! The oxtails were amazing, with so much meat on the bones and even a lot of loose meat in the stew. Both portions were very generous and worth the buck for sure! I ordered a red stripe, margarita and one of the cocktails: forgot the name of the cocktail but it was good(although served in a VERY tiny glass — that was the only disappointment). I was stuffed at this point. But still ordered a side of wings to go(i knew i would be hungry later that night and cooking was not an option). The wings were amazing and ill be sure to order it again. OH! and after all this, the bill was WAAAAYYY lower than i expected. xoxo Gladys and staff, you will definitely be seeing me again!

Dinner at Glady’s is a fun and tasty affair. I like the décor – you feel like you’re on vacation, and the service is attentive and relaxed. I like how varied the seating was – you can either end up at a communal table and make new friends, or sit at the bar or near the windows, which are great for people watching. I started with the dark and slushie, which was fun to sip. Split the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and the plantains and it was enough food for two people. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. The sides didn’t steal the show but complimented the meal. Spoiler alert: you also get a freebie coconut ice cream as a treat after your meal. Really enjoyed my dinner at Glady’s!
