A hidden treasure in the Brooklyn area for naturalistas! The owner, Patrick is very down to earth, patient and knowledgeable. The store carries a wide array of ‘hard to find’ products for natural hair, soaps, and other products available internationally. Patrick recommended Hydrathermal for my dry hair and I have never looked back. LOVETHISPLACE.

According to the Facebook page this place opens at 10 a.m. Now, I know small businesses & I know that they don’t always open directly on time so I came around 11:15 to find that the store is still closed. I call the owner who tells me that he’ll be in in an hour. That makes it 12:30 p.m. I don’t have much time to waste but I decide to wait at a nearby café because I’d made such a long trip there in the first place. I go back around 12:45, store is still closed and I wait another 15 minutes. No one comes. Just an annoying situation, that I wished hadn’t happened because I was pretty excited to experience the store.

I am a natural 4b/4c which means my hair needs ALOT of moisture. I can’t stand the fact that the only place to get all natural hair products is online, and local New York beauty supply stores might have the product you’re looking for but the prices are ridiculous. I needed a moisturizer right away, and especially didn’t want to pay for shipping. I did my research and came across Ecodermis. Its a small shop full of all natural hair products, hair vitamins and oils. The guy was really nice and helpful. They carry Oyin Handmade, Jessicurls, Miss Jessie’s, Cantu, Shea Moisture, Bee Mine(and many more). The products are moderately priced– I purchased the Oyin Handmade Go Tea 4FL Oz for $ 8 and Cantu Argan Oil cream conditioner 16FLOZ for $ 6. Its a great spot for naturals who want their products right away, and if they don’t have it not only is the owner open to suggestions but there are also a variety of other products to choose from. I came from Queens, worth the travel, beats paying for shipping. He even threw in some free samples! CASH&CARDS

This place is weird. You would NEVER know it existed but I somehow happened upon it via six degrees of separation. I was looking at natural hair videos on You Tube, and someone recommended Hydrathermal Naturals and i was washing my hair and wanted it to try immediately! I also wanted Juices and Berries from Oyin Handmade. Voila! After searching the interwebs, I found and realized that it was sort of in my hood. I called and asked if they had these items in stock and a serial killer answered the phone and told me they did. I never went. Because I didn’t want to die. Fast forward six months(to today) and I wanted to go for a walk after I had just landed from a god awful red eye from the west coast. I needed to wash my hair and needed products. My neighborhood isn’t really good for natural hair products, which DRIVESMENUTS. If you go in the regular beauty supply store and don’t ask to a two-pack of indian remy, they really can’t help you(not knocking weaves!!). Then I randomly remembered ths place. Let’s be clear, from the outside it looks like a place where you would get your check cashed or your taxes done or something. However, something told me to try this place. Inside, there is a nice softspoken lady that sells alot of products for natural hair that you can’t find ANYWHERE. She also sells oils and a decent assortment of organic products for skin and general health. Oh, and the serial killer? I think it was her son or grandson who kindly helped me purchase items via his laptop. Maybe he was having a bad day or broke up with his girlfriend when I called six months ago… Anyway, here are the brands I saw: Kinky Curly(my love), Curl Junkie, Deva, Hydratherma, Curl Keeper, Oyin Handmade, Jessicurl, Cara B, Hair Rules, Miss Jessie’s, Tiiva, etc. Brands I’ve even never heard of but am game to try since I am a product junkie. I’ll definitely return. If you’re a natural and you are in Prospect/Crown Heights, I’d recommend. It’s on the corner of Lincoln and Franklin. Happy Shopping!
