Great neighborhood spot, been around for years. Food is great service is pleasant. Come here for a real home cooked meal. Try the mofongo, fried chicken chunks!, and the ropa vieja is out of control!

Came here for brunch on Sunday. Our waiter was very attentive and super friendly! The food was delicious I had steak pieces with potatoes, egg and toast. Steak was well seasoned. My friend had the Cubano and absolutely loved it. Ambiance Pretty relaxed, not too loud. I would return as the customer service and the food was fantastic!

My go to place for Spanish food in Brooklyn! Conveniently located across the street from Barclay Center they have their own parking area that’s free so you can drive or take mta. It’s a low key restaurant quite nice for a date night. No need for a reservation and food never disappoints me. EVER! The pork chops are my fave but everything else I have tried is good as well. Some nights of the week they have a live band which is cool. Fully stocked bar with tasty drinks.

Used to order from this restaurant almost every week, delivery is extremely late and over an hour for less then 10 blocks. Food is OK but prepare yourself for a really long wait…

I have been here on two different occasions. It is definitely a nice place for lunch or dinner. The food is great and the salsa dancing on Thursdays is an added plus.

Last night was my 4th time eating here, and i have to say I have not had a bad meal here. My husband used to work in the area, at a restaurant mind you, and him and his coworkers ordered their chicken family package all the time. He raves about the chicken and he’s normally not a chicken person, steak and pork is his thing. Well I got to try it and it was AMAZING! I’ve never had chicken so juicy, it fell right off the bone and was seasoned perfectly. He was nice enough to share with me lol I had fried pork chops, great taste not over seasoned and they were also very juicy. Arroz con gandules and yellow rice with beans cooked perfect. With that we shared a pastele and avocado. A a beer and a soda the whole meal was $ 40 u can’t beat that in these $$ hipster neighborhoods. I’m from Greenpoint I can say that! In the past we’ve had the ropa vieja, better than I’ve had in a lot of Cuban spots, pepper steak, beef stew, crab mofongo, if your a crab fanatic like me you must try!! and steak with onions. All cooked and seasoned perfect and portions are so big I always eat twice. It’s safe to say we will be making the drive here more often as its so hard to find good Spanish food, my husband is from Puerto Rico so he’s extremely picky with that, and I love Spanish food so it’s worth sitting in BQE traffic for. We already have plans to pick up chicken next week for my father and us, and I’m marking the menu for the dishes I want to try on future visits.

Belligerent? Really? And then you hang up on us? Staff lunch ordered & delivered, with one entire entrée missing… and when we called them on it, the guy first insisted that he packed everything, then flat out didn’t believe us. Hey, listen guy: if you’re dishonest enough that you automatically think your customers are trying to rob you… if you are so snotty you refuse to believe you made a mistake, then maybe you should get out of the food business and get into the scumbag business. As for our company: we’re done with you. In the meantime, look around at the level of restaurants within walking distance and reflect on their civilized level of customer service. If Brooklyn locals are lucky, you’ll have been fired in time for your restaurant to save itself.

We were looking for a different restaurant to eat and came in here because it was closer. So glad we did! The food is really good. My boyfriend ate his ENTIRE Choulafan rice dish even though it’s HUGE and we were planning on saving the rest for lunch the next day.(It was on a 8 in x 8 in plate with a rice mound of at least 0.75 in tall !! Plus, he never finishes his food unless it’s good…) I had the Ropa Vieja, which I thought would be dry… but I guess I didn’t see the word stew. It looked like a VERY meaty dish with some onions thrown in here and there. Instead of rice, I got a side of spinach(cause it was really lacking in that department). This would go much better with rice & beans. Never ever skip on on rice and beans(or just steal some from your dinner buddy). The dinner and lunch specials are so cheap, I would totally order it if they delivered to my neighborhood miles away. – Their menu descriptions: Ropa Vieja: A traditional Cuban favorite. Slowly cooked shredded flank steak stewed with red wine, cumin, bay leaves and green olives. Choulafan: take on an Ecuadorian classic. Egg fried rice with shrimp, beef, pork, chicken and chorizo.

Was heading to the Barclay center for a Nets game and didn’t want to eat at the arena. Spotted El Viejo Yayo and decided to give it a try. My son and I both ordered the Chuletas ! Wow! Very tasty. The Ensalada Kale was delicious and the rice and beans were also great. Portions were generous(I couldn’t finish!), and the service was fast and polite. Arrived by 6:15 and we were out by 7:10 without feeling rushed. Nets lost the game, but El Viejo Yayo was on point. May not return to see the Nets(this season), but I absolutely will return to this restaurant.

Great Spanish food. Rice and beans are great. Roasted chicken is one of their best dishes. Prices are reasonable. Good place to go out with someone on a Friday or Saturday night dressed up.

Best ropa vieja and maduros in the slope. Everything is delicious and the garlic bread is lethal. Not to be eaten if on a first date… «No bueno» for kissing

This happens to be one of my favorite spots for good Spanish food. The nice thing about this place is it’s kinda a fusion Mexican/Puerto rican/Dominican-y. You can get Nachos and Tacos or chuletas and rice and beans or mofongo which you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you don’t try… TRYTHEMOFONGO… your welcome. The service is excellent and consistent every time. Warm garlic bread is served while you wait for your food which is never very long, but be warned… they put enough garlic on this bread that you will be killing vampires long after you leave so bring Altoids or skip it if your on a date, otherwise buen provecho!

I like the food — especially the fried pork chops with yellow rice & beans — BUT — they do need more consistency. Sometimes its juicy and great — sometimes dried out. I’ve done both in the restaurant and take out. Both reasonable experiences — although they did mess up the order once on take-out and then tried to argue with me about it on the phone. Overall — I like it, but it could be a lot better.

Every time I come in here my creative decorating skills come to mind, we barely have any Latin cuisine /restaurants in Park Slope, yes there are plenty of Mexican, and Asian spots, but this is really the only place to get your rice & bean fix. The food is usually a hit or miss, sometimes the pepper steak is great, sometimes there is too much fat on the meat, and it’s soaked in oil. The rice is great, so is the Yayo steak. What aggravates me is this could be THESPOT! The place to come with friends, listen to salsa music while enjoying great food. But it isn’t, it’s dark, needs more lighting, they need to move that entire take out section that takes up half the place, the fridges, the small bar should be a place for people to gather, it isn’t, the menu, is way too long!!! To many items, why do you have Italian & Mexican? It’s overwhelming, make it short, add a appetizer platter, take your most popular items and make them entrees, stick too good Latin drinks. It’s such a shame when I see such good potential in a place & it isn’t being utilized.

There food is delicious, lm simple to please when it comes to food, tostones with the garlic sauce is my fav. Anyhow there customer service isn’t the best, their servers been there so long it’s kind of like another day for them, miserable an not eager to keep ppl happy with there smiles etc. thank god there food & pricing is good bc that’s all that saves them. Yayo Papi you need a new team people who is excited to come to work an give good customer service.

Great Latin food at a decent price. My first time here I had«Pollo a la francés» with white rice, and plátanos maduros. My husband had white rice and beans with pork chops. We tried their sangria as well. All the food was served hot, and tasted delicious. With the exception of the pork chops, which were still good but lacked traditional flavor. The sangria was awesome. It was very berry-like. If that’s not your thing(you prefer fruity over berry) maybe it’s not for you. But I liked it a lot. :) I also loved the complimentary hot bread with garlic served prior to our meal arriving. Our server was delightful. She checked on us regularly, and brought napkins before we had to ask(which is huge, nowadays…) she was also accommodating to our carriage. She was great. I would definitely come again. I liked Viejo Yayo a lot.
