Everything was delicious. I got the triple play, and I loved it. The BBQ sauce was a sweet and tangy on the rib tips. The greens were the best I’ve had ever. Catfish was moist but just a little salty – with the tartar sauce it was just right. The wings are a little on the small side but delicious nonetheless. I’m very happy with this meal. Yum!

Ok– the food was good. Actually, the food was pretty great. The barbeque sauce is rich and tangy, the fries are hot and crispy, the cornbread is sweet and buttery. The drinks are STRONG. And pretty cheap off the menu, and even better during happy hour.(2 really strong Vodka Sours for $ 4? Wha?!) The parking lot is big, and has some major pot holes, so watch out! Once inside, the atmosphere is pretty fun. The VooDoo theme is a little psychedelic, and there are lots of table/chairs, booths, and a large bar to sit at. Some big TVs around the bar, some borderline scary Voodoo art on the walls. Service. NONEXISTENT. The server seemed really friendly at first(Hey Babe, what can I get you to drink?) But then disappeared for 30 minutes before bringing our drinks back. We weren’t going to get any food, but after drinking for a while, decided to get a combo platter to share with the table. ANDITTOOKALMOST2HOURSTOGETTOUS! The server«forgot» to order it for a while, then thought we «changed our minds and didn’t want it» and then finally put in the order to the kitchen. MAN. It was really good, but not worth a 2 hr wait. They do have a patio for smokers. The DJ seemed like he was doing a decent job with the music, but there was NOBODY actually dancing on the floor, just hanging around in groups.

Should probably called Ghetto BBQ The service here is worse than horrible. Asked for things like sweetner for my tea, BBQ sauce, fork n knife, napkins. None of which came on first, second or even third request. No BBQ sauce on table, not even salt and pepper. They have no clue how to operate a restaurant. NOCLUE. Chicken was good, beans were good, collards were good. However, I usually like all of these items hot. Not luke warm. Come to think of it, the food was probably in the«danger» zone for. Décor was interesting. I have never seen a BBQ place that is decorated like a mexican place/check that run down mexican place. But by all means go enjoy, im sure it will be fine… ugh

First of all, I really really really want this place to survive. I’ve been driving past this restaurant everyday on my to and from work since it used to be Chi Chi’s. If you are from the area, you know how long that’s been. I’ve been to Mr. BBQ twice before my latest visit Once just after they first opened. Cash registers weren’t working, they were not taking credit cards, and not able to serve tap beer. Ordered the Beef Brisket. Too greasy for me. They really didn’t look ready to open. The next time was about 4 months later. Did take out with some BBQ Ribs. OK, but not enough BBQ sauce. Recently, I decided to try them again. First impressions are lasting. Why can’t they fix the parking lot? Pot holes everywhere. I think they are the same ones(only deeper) that were there when it opened. Very few cars in the parking lot at 6pm on a Saturday, not a good sign. Same atmosphere that will suck the life out you wanting to come back I hate saying that because they could do so much better with such a great location. No air conditioning. It was 85 degrees outside. Effort and atmosphere — I give Mr BBQ a 1 rating. I love catfish. So, I did take out with the Catfish Dinner with sides of greens and corn on the cob. I was actually quite surprised. It was quite good. 3 nice slabs of battered catfish, not greasy, batter tasted good, crispy(in a good way), and fish was flaky. Corn was good, but seemed not that fresh. Greens were tasty, but a little salty. It may be a little generous. But, I’ll give the food a 4 rating this time. I hope they can keep it up. So, my overall rating is a 3 as the food seems to have improved.

This place has some very unfair reviews. After all, the food is quite good! To start, the environment is… well…lets say different. It’s a voodoo lounge. What that translates to is an old church with crap everywhere. And due to the church design the acoustics allow for anything above a low talk to reverberate off the walls, making you feel like everybody is screaming in the place. And the music is not tied to any specific theme either. The food was by far the most surprising and pleasant part of the experience. I do competition bbq so I have trouble going to bbq joints. A group of 3 of us got a combo platter that had a whole rack of ribs, pulled pork, enough chicken to feed a small army, 2 sides and corn bread. The meat was perfectly smoked, not dry, and plenty of flavor. One may complain that they don’t use baby backs but rather St. Louis style but they were still very well prepared. For sides we opted for cole slaw and creamy cucumber salad, both of which were very flavorful and a hit for us. The cucumber salad had a heavy dill influence and was delicious. The corn bread was probably the best I have had at ANY bbq joint. It was moist, flavorful, and portioned well… and I have been to a lot of bbq joints, especially down south. The bar has limited beer selection, but it is workable. Certainly didn’t ruin the meal. The service was courteous and friendly. Due to the location, this place attracts a very diverse crowd that does seem to get a bit rowdy, but the food was great and I would return. This place appears that it may get wild and out of control late at night. Don’t let the other reviews prevent you from trying this diamond in the rough!

not much of a beer selection, food was overpriced and the ribs were a little dry. Our waitress never introduced herself and got the order wrong. Glad we had a coupon but, we won’t be going back

Tacky, tacky, awful! Waited and waited for t his restaurant to open… well, they should never have opened!!! Never again will we go there. Dingy, dirty, menus looked like they had been used in another restaurant. First of all I ordered iced tea, they forgot to put the teabags in the tea, sent it back and drank water instead. Food was awful, ribs fair but cold, could have fixed Kraft Mac and Cheese at home and it would have been better. Cole slaw soupy. And, I can’t believe they served the sides in styro cups. Can’t really believe they had a chef, must have someone in the kitchen warming up and dishing up the food! $ 45 wasted!

Food was good. Atmosphere was not what I expected from the outdoor signage. Chairs were painted in a rainbow motif and loud dance music filled the place. Thatched roof décor also gave it a tiki bar feel. Staff was friendly. Seemed pretty busy for a Monday night.

My office is not far from Mr. BBQ, so two co-workers and I decided to call in a take out order for lunch yesterday. Big Kat and I split the«triple play» of a quarter chicken(dark), 4 whole fried wings, and rib tips. The sides were mac & cheese and(of course) greens. Jen had the pulled pork sandwich and fries — and I had them add a few cornbread muffins. To our surprise, it was actually pretty good! I consider myself a wing connoisseur, and these were simple but good — battered and deep fried. Big Kat devoured most of the rib tips, but I managed to sneak a few of them away from him. They were seasoned well, and actually smoked very nicely. We both agreed that we’d have to try the full rack of ribs since we enjoyed the rib tips so much. The quarter chicken was simply rotisserie chicken with barbecue sauce on it and quickly fired on the grill for color — no points for that. We all agreed that the mac & cheese was the star of the show, but I thought the greens — while heavily seasoned — were unexciting. The fries were great, but fries should always be great. Jen seemed to like her pulled pork sandwich and let us try a bite, but I wasn’t astonished. Overall, for the $ 26.00 we spent(total) there was a good amount of decent barbecue that we brought back 15 minutes after calling it in. Not bad for a Monday take out lunch! Since we opted for take out, I can’t offer any observation regarding the wait staff, bar, or dine-in service. If you’re relatively local to this area, you’ve probably watched this property change hands quite a few times over the years. There’s even been a tex-mex theme that wasn’t even able to open its’ doors for business. My co-workers and I have the half joking — half serious opinion that this location is under some sort of curse. I wouldn’t spend the time to dine in at this particular Mr. BBQ location, but the take out lunch worked just fine for a Monday!
