Always loved this place. But now they seem to be closed. Not sure if it’s permanent or if they will open back up soon.

This restaurant is so confusing! The food is pretty decent but the service and delivery is awful! I keep ordering and continued to go to the restaurant in the hope that the food would get better! The last straw was a year ago when I went to the restaurant there was dog in the restaurant! They dog was walking around and in the kitchen! I haven’t there since! Before I saw the dog I ordered and each time I did they forgot item!

The restaurant smells bad, musty, so that’s a bad first impression. I ordered the tom yum soup, it was just mildly spicy with little flavor, the shrimp in the soup looked as if they’d been pre-chewed and cooked until rubbery. I also had the veggie tempura sushi, which would have been good except it was covered in some super sweet sauce. I don’t think I’d ever order sushi from there, the sushi bar does not look well kept, generally not the level of cleanliness I’d expect from a japanese restaurant. Another poster said the owner has dogs in the restaurant, which would explain the bad smells. Never again, I’ll just have to wait to leave this area of the Bronx to find good sushi or Asian fusion food.

I’ve ordered from this place a lot in the past few years and I have to say it declined both in food quality and service. The food is ok now. Nothing spectacular and portions are decent. The sushi is nothing to brag about, and I’d rather travel to Manhattan to get quality sushi for slightly higher price. The reason why I’m giving it two stars is because of service. I went to Umai with a bunch of friends to get dinner, and when my friend asked if he could substitute something in a dish the waiter snapped at him! A simple order turned complex as the waiter began giving my friend an attitude. Calling in to see if my delivery order has been made yet also gets similar responses. Overall I’m very reluctant to return.

I love this place! Small, intimate, good service, good food and half-price sushi. Where can you beat that?

Used to love this place until recently. The manager here has dogs in the restaurant and I feel that’s very unsanitary. I’m highly allergic to animals and would be really pissed if dog hair gets into my food. I really hope this act gets discovered by the health department.

WISH I COULDGIVETHEM0STARS ! They refused to deliver to my location and had an attitude with me because they assumed it was a prank call. After calling a dozen time to their store, they told me that they will never deliver to my location and continued to speak in their native language, I’m assuming about me. DONOT waste your time !!! Extremely terrible service.

Pretty good food. Sushi was awesome… Music in the background was great… Only thing that to me wasn’t a problem but could be annoying is the lack of people in the floor.

The first time I came here was okay. I had bubble milk tea for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Today, I was visiting my brother and decided to come back for the second time. Unfortunately, I was completely let down. The host was a little rude and our table was sticky. The bathroom was absolutely DISGUSTING! No toilet paper. Dirty sink. No knob to turn the water on either. This place is small and we were seated in the back, I couldn’t sit there without getting dizzy from the smell of cigarettes. It’s almost like someone had smoked in the bathroom. Yuck! Sushi was blahh and my bubble milk tea was warm and they just put ice cubes to make it cool but then that watered it down. I’ll never go back.

Umai Fusion is conveniently located on Arthur Ave. I work in the area and have visited on several occasions for both lunch and dinner. The food is pretty good, at least the dishes I’ve tasted. modest portions. When I first started patronizing this restaurant the service was great, even with only ONE waiter he WAS welcoming and provided good service. Great prices! The place is not fancy but decent and the BYOB policy was a plus! Over time the service has become non-existent! The waiter is VERY rude and sarcastic. It’s almost as if he gets annoyed when customers ask him to repeat himself(HE has a heavy accent) and the super loud music in the background doesn’t help. The place is very small and the closer you sit towards the back of the restaurant the more you’ll inhale the cigar smoke which flows in from the cigar shop next door-SO ANNOYING! They state they close at 11 on Fridays & Saturdays but I showed up at 9:30 on a Friday night and they were cleaning, a young man who is sometimes the hostess/waiter and usually seems LOST stated«I wasn’t told we were open until 11, we are only taking orders for take-out now» umm, HELLOITSPOSTEDONBOTHTHEDOORANDONYOURWEBSITEANDWHEN I CALLED I WASTOLD11! Oh yeah and there’s a dog that runs around the tiny place… the dog is cute but should NOT be in the restaurant… so weird! While the food is good, due to very poor service I refuse to return to this restaurant. Good luck to them and the lack of good service, the way they’re going their customers will soon be non-existent like their service!

Decent place. Decent food. A bit different then the other places around Little Italy. Sort of dark inside. They have a dog. It runs around under the table which is a bit weird. Food isn’t too pricey but it isn’t out of this world good either.

If you want quality sushi, definitely don’t order from here. Which I should have expected, since it is in the Bronx. I ordered delivery at 7 pm, it came at 9 pm, soggy, and drenched in sauce. Not very filling either. The delivery guy is a horrible guy too. I expected that my delivery guy wouldn’t be able to come upstairs since they usually drive cars here in the Bronx, but no. He was on a bike, which means it’s pretty easy to lock your bike up and come upstairs, since that’s his job description. Me and my husband both are delivery people and we both go upstairs in all apartment buildings when we deliver food. And his only excuse was«Oh I didn’t feel like it». I tried to give them a second and third chance, but it’s been the same every time. I can’t wait until another sushi place opens up. Definitely don’t recommend.

Umai is the perfect sushi place for college students. In the Bronx, there aren’t a lot of sushi options. Out of all of them, though, Umai should be your first choice. While it is not the highest quality sushi, it fits the bill! It is also very inexpensive — perfect if you’re on a budget. The restaurant space is quant and nice to go to with friends. However, it is right next door to a cigar shop so you may smell like cigars after. A big plus to Umai is that it delivers. This is ideal for those days you can’t seem to get out of bed or it’s too cold to leave your building. I recommend the crunchy shrimp rolls and scallion pancakes.

well, not a fancy restaurant. I d rather say a cosy place to have a quick lunch or dinner when you dont feel like cooking yourself and dont want to head to manhattan or flushing which will be very time– comsuming and it’s not safe when you come back around 11 pm after dinner. I think it can be categorized as American Japanese restaurant comparing to some authentic ones. You can see from the menu. There are all different kinds of rolls named fancy yet funny at some point, such as rainbow rolls. You will never find any rainbow in a serious and authentic jap restaurant, trust me. But I am not saying it’s awful. It just serves different kind of food. You definitely get what you paid. Don’t expect they will use fresh seafood nor they make their own wasabi. Just order some fancy named rolls or compact bento box to fed up your stomach and leave. That is the best policy. FYI, they includes tip(15% service fee) in your bill… which I felt uncomfortable with. 15% is too high for such a fast-food style restaurant. What the wait staffs did was basically refill your water and bing the food to you. That is not worth 15%. At last, I think I will go there again only because I LIVEINBRONXANDWEDONTHAVEANYASIANRESTAURANTEXCEPTFORFAKECHINESEFOOD(PANDAEXPRESS, YOUKNOWIT). Umai Fusion is a pillbox sized Japanese /Asian fusion restaurant. The restaurant seats about 10 – 15 people. It is small. There is no kids menu so don’t be me and take your 5 yr old because Unilocal reviews claimed«Kid Friendly«. Pros: Food quality was exceptional. Portions are modest, but all ingredients were perfect. I had soft shell crab in a roll, as well as eel and yellow tail. My 5 yr old had chicken teriyaki. One tender breast over bean sprouts with a side of white rice. And three spicy tuna tools and a green dragon roll. Beautiful and tasty. Miso soup was also good. Lunch prices were commensurate with a moderately priced Sushi restaurant outside of Manhattan. Cons:Because this place is so tiny, we were blasted with the sound system that was directly above us. The one and only waiter was singing along loudly to his music, customers be damned. I asked if the music could be turned down, I couldn’t hear my family, let alone think as I was trying to order. I was ignored. Secondly, having one waiter means if he is engaged, you wait. Often times he was texting, or singing and was not attentive. Billowing incense from the far end of the restaurant almost made us leave. We had already ordered, but the scent was over powering. As an avid incense user, I think this should have been done before opening up to the public. You don’t want to have a snoot full of smoke as you are eating. There was nothing on the table. No spoons for tea, no knives to cut chicken, no extra napkins. I also noticed the sushi chef balancing plates on to go boxes as our plates were assembled. Three orders submitted, two served. Mine which included frying was served nearly 15 mins after everyone else. Not fun to watch everyone eat as you are sitting there. This place probably would be better suited for take out. Or, sitting at the 3 seated bar directly in front of the chef. The problems here are not about quality of food. But for a $ 75. lunch, I expect more service and less sensory assault.

As much as I love to cook, I love to eat out at times also… and eating seafood is a plus… do during one of my lazy boy days, I decided to search for a sushi spot that delivers… and sure nuff, I was fortunate to find one in the heart of Little Italy… besides them forgetting my Salad… their service, food and punctuality was on point!

I love this place. I’ll go everyday if I have to. I usually go every two weeks or at least two times in one month. Best sushi place in the bronx. Great service and great food! I recommend. All my friends love this place. Not pricey. This is not a place where you say«you get what you pay for» you get more than what you pay for. Easy to find parking around.

Don’t order from here! Average food, delivery takes a long time, and worst service ever. I used to order Umai pretty often, almost every week, their delivery time was pretty long and the service was one of the worst in the area, but I would order since it was pretty convenient. But not anymore, these guys have the absolute worst service ever. It has happened to me a few times that I make an order, wait for hour and a half/2 hours, and when I call back again to know what happened with my order, they just say that they have forgotten it, and the worse part is that they are just plain rude and don’t even apologize. Today this happened to me for the last time, these guys are just the worst, when I called back they were just completely unrespectful to me, shouting on the phone and insulting me. After telling him to first relax and be respectful to me he just hanged up on me and didn’t pick the phone back. I was just shocked of how bad their service is and how rude they are. You guys are way too lucky that you are in a college area, if not you wouldn’t last a month. But anyway its just not worth dealing with these people, there are many other options in the area, including sushi, and with a customer service 100 times better. Never ordering from here again.
