It’s so interesting to see all the bad reviews for Golden Sun. I avoided trying this place because of the poor reviews, until Golden Lotus closed and I needed a Chinese place in Boulder. I tried a few and Golden Sun is my current favorite. I am happily surprised by their food, every time I go there. They actually listen to my numerous special requests and have not messed up any order to date. They don’t use MSG and the food is delicious. Plus they stay open late, one of the few good places open till 2am. I usually order the steamed vegetables, chicken and broccoli, kung pow chicken(no peanuts), egg drop soup and a side of steamed broccoli. I recommend all these meals. There prices are great, the food is really good. Is it the best Chinese food I have ever had? No. Obviously NYC and Boston have much better food. But the Chinese restaurants in Boulder are quite poor as a whole, and I think Golden Lotus may be the best in Boulder. If anyone knows of other spots that don’t use MSG i’d love to try them, let me know. As far as the inside, I’ve never dined in. It surely is not the nicest interior and I can see why reviewers have deducted starts. I have also never ordered delivery, it sounds like it can take a while which is frustrating if they are not upfront with delivery times. If I order delivery I’ll expect it to take some time. But as far as the food, its good. And if you don’t like oil tell them to steam it, they actually listen.

Golden Sun is wonderful! The price is what you get– I am surprised so many people expect a gourmet experience. Delivery times vary because of college drivers but go pick it up if you want to avoid! The food is great, consistent, and the owners work very hard 24 – 7. They also have a very authentic, separate Chinese menu if you are looking for something traditional. Love G Sun!

Total value for money! As a student, I always look for discounts and value meals and Golden Sun fits the bill perfectly. If you are looking for quality Chinese food, try someplace else. I always pick up my food and so can‘t really say anything about the delivery times people seem to complain about. With regards to food, the best option is try their cheapest lunch special, which consists of 1 entrée, 1 appetizer along with steamed rice/lo mein for 4.99 $. The place is open till 2 am, which is always a good thing. Eating at the restaurant is kind of depressing and the restaurant looks closed and dead during open hours.

Seems like most of the complaints are on delivery times… Go pick it up. Problem solved. The food is consistent. The price is right and the menu items I’ve had have all been great for counter service Chinese. I’ve liked all the beef dishes I’ve had, as well as the fried rices. Great family owns the business and are always friendly.

It took 2 hours for my food to arrive. It was cold and sweaty and not great. I should have refused the order. The driver didn’t have ones and I was forced to tip $ 3. Hao Way and May Wah are much better.

Food is Americanized Chinese; not great but one of the«Better» ones here in Boulder. The Chinese in NYC and SF which I’m used to is obviously 1000X better than this place but it is what it is. On the other hand I would not recommend ordering delivery or at least if you do order delivery be prepared to wait at least an hr. So far delivery times my past three orders have been 1 hr 15min, 1hr, 3hr 15min(Christmas).

Got delivery from here a couple days ago. It took upwards of an hour. The driver was nice enough and was able to find my place without a problem, but the food was horrible. Blandest Chinese food I have ever eaten! My boyfriend got the pork chow mein and there was hardly any pork in it. I got the 5.99 beef deal and they forgot my egg roll that it was supposed to come with. The fried rice on my dish just looked like old rice drenched in sauce. No veggies, egg, anything. Save yourself the trouble and get Chinese food somewhere else.

Terrible. Food showed up one hour and forty minutes after I ordered, with no warning that it would take so long. At one point I called to check in on the order and the woman lied to me and told me was out already. Well she charged my credit card after the phone call, I could tell because I got the notification on my phone… Nice try. When the food arrived everything was cold. The soup had spilled all over the bag. The General tso chicken was overly breaded and not flavorful. Will not be ordering again!

I should have noticed the condition of this place by the dirty glass on the entryway doors but it wasn’t till after eating that I really started to look around. I went to use the restroom to wash my hands after my meal and was thoroughly repulsed by the filthy carpets on the way. The bathroom was disgusting; no paper towels, watered down hand soap, dirty cup on counter and cleaning supplies sitting out. As far as service, the waitress never picked up a single plate without being asked to and argued when I mentioned my pan fried dumplings looked like steamed ones. Every time I think about the fact that I actually ate food prepared in this restaurant I get nauseous. If this is how they keep the part the customers see, how gross is the kitchen? I think Golden Sun has ruined me for ALL Chinese restaurants! It’s hard to imagine Golden Sun passing any Health department inspection.

So, I waited roughly 2.45 hours for our food. It finally shows up and one meal is ice cold, the rice was dry, and the other meal was luke warm. We complained and received only a partial discount. The food was not edible so we should have gotten a full refund. Don’t do delivery with them.

I like the convenience of ordering online and paying with PayPal. The food was ready by the time I arrived for pick up. The fried rice was just day old rice that was stir fried with some soy sauce for color, no egg, no chicken or pork, no mixed vegetables. Go with the steamed rice option. At least then the rice would be fresh. The cashew chicken was more celery than cashew or chicken. The General Tso’s chicken was breaded to death. I ordered the General Ts’so chicken spicy. It came with several while red peppers in the mix, but still fell short of what I would consider hot. That being said, their sauces were quite good. The portions are large. The $ 4.99 dinner special was a value purchase and the regular entrée prices are fair. I did not need to order steamed rice separately. All in all, I will order from them again. It does sound as though they were a better restaurant a few years ago. Today, it was not bad. I have hope that they will improve and regain the reputation they had in those reviews from 2010.

Odor from the kitchen lingers in the dining room. And, not in a good way, but in a rancid, oily, yucky way. And, the last food I ordered was bland and boring. Used to be much better. What happened?

Just not good. The bag was leaking horribly. Mongolian beef was so dry, we threw away the entire container. The 4.99 deal is decent if you’re alone and starving. Otherwise dinner for more than one isn’t worth the wait or the small amount of money

Decent house fried rice, nothing was life changing. Dumplings are something you could pass on. Good place for general Chinese-American fare with competitive prices. Good lunch and dinner combo specials. Egg rolls on point.

Called in a order @ 10pm. My oder was hot, fresh, and very tasty. I got the general’s chicken, better than your average. The prices online aren’t correct… It was cheaper when I arrived. Ask about the Combos.

Worst Chinese food I have ever had! Panda Express is even better. The low price is not an excuse because I have paid the same price point for awesome Chinese food in Boulder. Lo Mein is so bland and doesn’t come with any veggies. This place is also NASTY(like the Honey Badger). I was hoping this would be some awesome hole in the wall where the nasty carpets and stained table cloths could be excused but OHNO. The buffet was scary; filled with lots of crusty dishes that look like they’ve been there forever. The food I ordered came out fast and the lady that helped me was nice so they get an extra star for that but I will never eat here again!

Fantastic Experience with Golden Sun! Very fast, excellent quality, great price, and large portions. My roommate and I made a call in order for 2 chicken specials. One General Tso the other Chile Pepper. The clerk quoted 5 minutes. We drive and it was ready when we got there(7 minute drive). We pulled up to find the hole in the wall that is Golden Sun, waled in, and were quickly greeted. We paid $ 7.50 each with tip and were out the door in minutes. The food was great! There was an appropriate spice level and well cooked fried rice with a crispy egg roll. Highly recommended for American classic chinese food.

It’s not ok for a customer to not receive a napkin and to not be able to find an employee of the restaurant anywhere to ask about a napkin, and I even would have been willing to get a napkin from the counter or the round table where there are usually some sitting out in piles. No such luck recently when I was there. On top of that the owner, who is usually very nice, was not nice, not even remotely pleasant. The food was decent. Generous portions. And prices, even at dinner, are quite affordable actually. I could see that people at other tables had napkins. I wasn’t able to get a napkin until near the end of my meal. The family who run this restaurant are very nice people. It’s not the end of the world to not have a napkin. I had an extra napkin in my purse that I used temporarily. What was worse was being treated like I didn’t exist, when I am a regular and loyal customer.
