Tonight I had a business meeting with a client who works for EMC. When he asked where we should dine, I suggested Ruth’s Chris since he had never been. Though he was very impressed with the atmosphere of the restaurant, once we were seated it took over 30 minutes before anyone came to our table. However when Keryn Connolly came over, the night started getting much better. Keryn explained that there was a mix up in who would be serving us and quickly worked to make things right. She was very attentive, friendly and knowledgable in terms of the menu and daily specials. I also learned that she’s opening her own boxing gym and that she has previously boxed for«Haymakers For Hope», a yearly charity event at House of Blues Boston. Be on the look out for Hurricane Connolly’s Boxing Gym opening in Salem, MA. My guest Greg and I cannot say enough about Keryn’s excellent service and the great food! Working in hospitality, I know that things don’t always go as planned, but it’s how the situation is handled which makes all the difference. It’s clear Keryn understands this too. Because of her first impression, Greg says he wants to have future meetings at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and I will make sure Keryn is VIP whenever visiting HOB. I truly believe quality service should be rewarded! P. S. I also have to give a shoutout to Justin Issacs for taking time to come say hello, even though he was working in the bar room. He waited on me during my previous trip to Ruth’s Chris and I really appreciate that he took a few minutes out of his busy night to make me feel welcomed. Whether you’re seated with Justin or Keryn, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Gster took me on a surprise dinner here… we’ve been dating quite some time(1 year x 7) and this was our first four dollar sign experience. Not to say we don’t eat at nice places, but we have never been to a steak house. If it’s the same rule for dollar signs as it is for karats(A karat for every year), we should have eaten at a 7 dollar sign location… but i was beyond ecstatic to be going to Ruth Chris’. When it comes to bread, I am high maintenance. I will be the first to admit it is hard to please me… bread has to be the wow factor… since that is often the first part of every great(Hopefully) meal. The bread here was a 10/10, one of the richest, thickest, moist breads, and ciabattas to be specific. What Gster and I agreed made the difference was the whipped butter… it had such a strong, soothing flavor, the butter sealed the deal. It was so enticing to Gster that he failed the bread draft by dipping the bread into the butter rather than using a knife. Come on, we are at fine dining! I can’t take him anywhere… The best part about Gster taking me to a steak house is that I don’t eat steak. Foruntatley, they had a swordfish special, and foruntatley it was unfreakin-belivable. It was so fresh, perfectly cooked in a basil tomato and lemony sauté with breadcrumbs. One of, if not the best swordfish I have ever gotten. Gster got the petit filet, which at first he was hesitant about but his stomach thanked me after. The steak came out sizzling, so thats an automatic win. For sides, we got the grilled asparagus, which was fresh and full of flavor. However, the best part about dinner, and one of the only reasons you should go, is the sweet potatoe casserole. Yes. It was covered with sugary, pecan crumbles that melted in your mouth before they even got in your mouth. Sweet potatoes have a whole new meaning and will never be the same. NEVER. For dessert we got the chocolate duo. Which surprise surprise… was frankly one of the best chocolate mousse and chocolate lava cakes i have ever had. And if you know me, I am equally as hard on judging the dessert as I am the bread… especially my mousse. Yes, this is worth it. Yes, you shouldn’t think twice. Yes, it will be the second best decision you make your life(after the sweet potato). So after every one of my dishes being a 4⁄5 do I give it a 5⁄5? Well, I do know that there are signs saying they are under construction, but that doesn’t excuse them of being completely careless. They always say you can judge your food by the bathroom, right? Well the bathroom was … disturbing. I went twice over the evening, and neither time had it been cleaned since the last. Also, there were several spots in the dining room where the paneling and molding was missing, leaving a massive unpainted and obscure hole, that was directly behind my head. Lastly, our service was very slow and inattentive. Given we are paying the hefty price for our meal, I expect the best service I have ever had in my life. I have had far better service at places where my expectations were much lower. Was the food here unreal? For sure. Was it the best i have ever had? One of the best. Was the overall experience worth the price? Not quite. However, one of the pushing factors torwards my rating to be a 4.5 is the uniquneness that this is in the Old City Hall building. Walking up, you don’t even know its a Ruth Chris. it’s very mysterious, enchanting, and you feel that you are gonna see some crazy mafia or old city politics go down. It’s very unique.

This was the 2nd year in a row that my mother and I celebrated Christmas dinner together at Ruth’s Chris. This year we were joined by my girlfriend. Had I left a review last year, it would have been an easy 4 – 5 star. Everything was perfect and my mother really enjoyed herself. Since we had such a great experience last year, it was a no brainer making our reservation for Christmas dinner at Ruth’s Chris again this year. Admittedly we did arrive slightly late. Our reservation was for 8:00pm and it was 8:02 when I was giving my keys to the valet. When we tried to get into the restaurant, the door was locked and they were not letting anyone in. We waited for another party to leave and entered behind them. At the front desk they told us they were closed and I said I had a reservation for 8:00. They said we would have to wait for another table to leave. We were finally seated at 8:20. It’s also worth mentioning that they called me to confirm my reservation on Wednesday and I would have appreciated it if they let me know to arrive before 8:00 so we wouldn’t be locked out with a homeless man chain smoking on the front steps. The tables were extremely close together. There was a family of 4 on one side of us with 2 young children. We had to listen to the father make baby noises the entire time. The back of his chair was basically touching our table — that’s how close they crammed us in. It was a fiasco just trying to squeeze through to our chairs to sit down(and we are all little). The host was completely apathetic and did not try to help us into our seats. A gentleman at another table got out of his chair to let us get past him to sit down. A busser filled our water glasses when we sat down. Our waitress came over and apologized for the wait and took our order. Drinks were brought out promptly, although our appetizers were not served until 8:55(and they forgot my mother’s salad and my soup spoon). My lobster bisque tasted the same as the bisque I’ve bought at Roche Brothers. Also, there was no visible lobster in it. Entrees came out not long after the appetizers. We all had filet mignon. The steaks are definitely not the same quality as any other top shelf steakhouse. According to some of the reviews on Unilocal, they do not dry age their steaks. These tasted no different than the steaks I’ve bought at supermarkets. On top of that, the filets were not even trimmed properly! All 3 of us had fat that had to be cut around. My filet was cooked properly(Medium Rare), but there was no visible searing. In traditional Ruth’s Chris fashion, the steaks are served on a hot plate with melted butter. Maybe this dazzling display of sizzling butter is to mask their cheap cuts of meat. For sides we had mashed potatoes and lobster mac and cheese. I will give credit where credit is due and say this was the best lobster mac I’ve ever had anywhere. I don’t even remember it being this good last year. It’s a huge portion, definitely enough for 3 – 4 people, and loaded with big chunks of lobster. The cheese sauce is cooked with jalapenos which gives it a really nice kick. For dessert I had a cup of espresso. It was probably a half ounce serving. I have a high-end Jura espresso machine at home and have it dialed to 1.5 ounces per shot, and this was a third of that. Was gone in 1 sip(and had very sour notes). Drinks were inconsistent. I had the Sazerac, which is an Old Fashioned with absinthe. The first one was absolutely perfect; the 2nd was a cloudy, almost clear beverage that tasted like black licorice. They clearly dumped way too much absinthe in and served it to me anyways, instead of starting over. I think this drink was symbolic of the night as a whole. The staff clearly wanted to be home celebrating Christmas, so nobody brought their A-game. After a 20% tip, our bill came to $ 320. It was a mediocre night at best and truthfully I felt ripped off. With all of the phenomenal restaurants in Boston within this price range, it will be very difficult for me to even consider returning.

We went for thanksgiving dinner. Ive always wanted to go in this gorgeous historic building. Although it was very busy, we were seated promptly. The service was excellent throughout meal. Its always a crap shoot on a holiday for service and they had ample help. The food was delicious. We had house salad. Lamb chops and petite filet with a side of creamed spinach. All perfect. I love the sizzling hot plates, though i can imagine lots of people burn themselves. The space was a labyrinth of rooms. I really liked the bar in the back, pretty space, i want to come back for happy hour. I didnt love the room we were sitting in downstairs, felt a little bit like i was being seqestered in a holding cell, well maybe not that bad, but try to request upstairs if you can. Overall, great place, pricey but i felt it was worth it. I will be back.

I recently attended a birthday party here and was disappointed. The atmosphere was nice(although they are doing construction) so I was unable to get a full picture. The meal started with Cesar salad. The veggies looked fresh enough, but there was way too much dressing. I ordered the Scottish Salmon for my main course and it was desperately overcooked. The glaze was also too sweet for my taste. The mashed potatoes looked and tasted like instant potatoes from a box. To top off the evening, I asked for decaf coffee and it was served to me cold. When I asked for a new, hot cup, they brought one to me that looked as though it was microwaved. Perhaps the issues were due to the fact that I was there for a function and not a customer in the restaurant. I really don’t recommend them for functions, but I would keep an open mind should I return as a customer.

The spicy lobster bites were very good. My steak was perfectly cooked and it literally melted in mouth. My new best place for steak. The desserts were nothing to scream about. I had the strawberry shortcake and it was a tad soggy. The drinks were really good. I have the blueberry monitor and it had the right amount of alcohol and juice. Our waiter was attentive and gave my friend a double shot of espresso on the house!

This is my favorite steak house in the world! I absolutely live for the cowboy ribeye! Always consistent, always perfect, wait staff extremely attentive and polite. I thoroughly enjoy my experience here every time. The one thing j will say is that the bathrooms can be a little cleaner and smell a little better but that’s not enough to knock down the star rating. Still love this place!

The steak I had at this restaurant(the T-Bone) represents the greatest steak I’ve ever had in my entire life. Period. No contenders to speak of mostly because of the melt in your mouth quality and delicious seasoning and intense flavor. Superb. Also the place is beautiful and makes you feel like this place is elegant. Why four stars? The service was OK not wonderful. It took quite some time for plates to be cleared after eating and no attempts to refill our drinks(although plenty of water re-filling. I think we caught the waitstaff in a change over which is fine, but being Sunday at 7 I think they should be better prepared. Very few attempts to check on us. Just an unfortunate occurrence since based on the steak this should have been a 5 star review. This would be a once ever few years place for me given the price(56 bucks for my t –bone) worth It for very special occasions, would go broke if it were even a semi regular occurrence.

My favorite steak in the world!!! How could a steak be so tender and juicy? Came here during the restaurant week. Spending $ 30 for such an amazing steak was really worth. If you have limit budget, just come during the restaurant week! The waiters were really nice, and the atmosphere was cool also. The building was city hall, and Ruth’s chris uses it as a restaurant. Really special!

My mouth is salivating as I think about this place! Came here with a friend over the summer and loved it! Service is great and the outdoor seating is BEAUTIFUL! For appetizers we both got a salad which was delish and tasty!(yes, a salad was actually flavorful) Got the New York strip crusted with blue cheese ohhhhh myyyy gahhhhhhhhh!!! So delish!!! and for appetizer we got the chocolate something(sorry forgot) the drinks are STRONG, especially if you get the grey goose martini! WARNING: It’s very salty and has olives filled with blue cheese, which was actually quite good! However not recommended if you’re a fruity drink kind a gal. All in all GREATPLACE, GREATFOOD, GREATSERVICE, GREATDRINKS!

I write this review just because this branch is hugely different from the one I visited in Washington DC. Taken here on a business dinner, I had low expectations but low and behold the steak was pretty good and the service was very strong. A good option if a more interesting restaurant cannot be found.

I think Lily S said it best. This restaurant is food orgasm worthy. I had restaurant week reservations with a friend of mine from work. We wanted to get together before we embarked on our business trip to Europe so we decided to come here. What an awesome choice we made. We both ordered the steakhouse salads and the filet mignons. Salad was delicious and was dressed perfectly. Nothing too drenchy or tasteless. The filet. Oh the filet. I got mine cooked medium well. That thing came out sizzling on a 500 degree plate. The butter was still spit firing as it was brought to the table. I had EVERY intention of bringing leftovers home. That DIDNOT happen. This steak was cooked to perfection. Each bite legit melted in my mouth. It disappeared. The side dishes, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, were delicious and accompanied the steak quite well. The chocolate cheesecake was beautiful. Both my friend and I thought it would be this ginormous slice, but it was the perfect size. It was not overwhelming, and the both of us only had a few bites before we called it quits. Service was on point and we got seated right away when we checked in. The hostess also showed us where the bathrooms were which was nice of her. For a Thursday evening, it was not very busy, but busy enough to have a warm buzz in the atmosphere. Will I return? Oh you betcha.

I am very open minded when it comes to high end chain restaurants. I don’t let preconceived notions influence me and refrain from experiencing something at least once and more if they rock my world. I think it is important to treat a restaurant for what it is really worth given what your personal experience tells you. I have been to Ruth’s Chris several times(never during restaurant weeks — those I don’t think always give you the true essence of a good restaurant and their standards) and only in their Boston location. When in the mood for a good steak(doesn’t happen very often let me tell you), and when looking for a great ambiance, I feel R-C is a pretty safe bet that never disappoints! Here are my takeaways: + Great ambiance: This place is perfect for many different kinds of occasions. But my preference is mostly for business dinners, treating an out of town visitor who likes the chain and sometimes just to drop in impromptu to treat yourself and quench your steak thirst. The décor is very classy and mostly inclines towards a rather formal /business casual attire. But us Americans are infamous to not follow rules and tradition, understandably and justifiably so. Again, this location of this chain totally stands out thanks to the grand location it is at. It is such a Boston classic. They did it right! + The Steaks: I have my favorites here. I love, and I mean LOVE their Cowboy ribeye. Something about the goodness of the ribeye with the bone. I confess I like meat on the bone. It is the real joy of being a carnivore — period! And I have never been disappointed by my medium rare or medium or medium well preparations — given my mood on a given day and such. They do an equally good job with the New York strip as well. Great execution overall. I’ve never had the opportunity of trying their prix-fixe options but I have heard only good things given the price and the overall options one would get. + Sides and other options: I once tried their lamb chops. They were perfectly seasoned and very juicy. But I definitely get my fill of the steaks and steer away from other options. The sides are alternately ordered, without trying any others, are always, either the sweet potato casserole or the cream spinach or the Broccoli au gratin. Full marks. I have tried other sides. They were just not my personal preference. No matter who may do the best baked potato or garlic mash in the world, they are just not my thing. So I have no rhyme or reason or right to criticize em. + Dessert: I once made the mistake of having their bread pudding with the whiskey sauce. I would never do it again. All for good reason. That thing is super-Addictive. And I stand a chance of being a diabetic if I try it again — it is so good. Strange as it may sound, but it is so good that it is so wrong for me is what I conclude. Finally, I love the way some of the bartenders fix the Ruby Red Greyhound. I simply love that drink, especially given I tend to not try too many different cocktails and stick to my usual ones, more often than not. But a man needs to treat self to something new every once in a while, right? I think I am pretty good at that! :) Happy chowing at R-C!

This location has the same high quality steak and service that you’d expect, but you get to dine in a beautiful space right in the heart of Boston. The only downside to this beautiful historic building is that the parking is nearly impossible, especially if you are coming for lunch and there’s no valet.(I’d recommend a valet lot on Devonshire that has online coupons for $ 20⁄3 hours) I was here for a work event and we had a reserved room on the lower level with windows looking up with a view of tourists wandering around. The steak was cooked perfectly and was served on a 900 degree plate. The a la carte sides were good, but nothing spectacular. The servers were attentive and courteous of the presentation going on. You can’t go wrong here if you’re visiting and want a nice steak, especially if your company is paying.

When it’s Restaurant Week(okay, Dine Out Boston), it must be Ruth’s Chris! This time I organized a lunch outing with two friends, and fortunately they were up for sharing the sides, so we got . Creamed Spinach . Garlic Mashed Potatoes And we upgraded our third side to Sweet Potato Casserole for $ 4 As always, we started with the nice crisp loaf of bread with the soft white center spread with soft butter. Then my friends enjoyed the Spicy Chicken Tortilla Soup, though they noted that it was only peppery spicy and not much spicy hot. Me, I chickened out of the«spicy» labeled soup and opted for the fresh Steak House Salad with House Vinaigrette. All three then had the beef for our entrée of choice because, well, doesn’t it sound good? . Filet: The most tender cut of corn-fed Midwestern beef broiled expertly to melt-in-your-mouth. I got mine medium rare so I could sear it to taste on the hot buttered plate the steak arrived on. The sides were terrific, with the sweet potato being sweet enough to be considered dessert without it overwhelming the savory toothed friend among us. Dessert(Warm Bread Pudding with Whiskey Cream Sauce) was packed to go since the other friend had a meeting to get back for. The sauce was nicely packed on the side of the bread pudding, though the regular fruit garnish was no where to be seen. A good meal indeed, and at $ 25 for these 3 courses. *** 8⁄2015RW *** Dine Out Boston(aka Restaurant Week) at Ruth’s Chris is quite dependable. For $ 25 during lunch, you’re sure to get(if you so choose) a thick piece of glorious steak, a tasty, shareable side, and a dessert. That’s the route I went — a thick 6 oz. cut of Filet(The most tender cut of corn-fed Midwestern beef broiled expertly to melt-in-your-mouth), served rare — juicy, tender, yum! My DC went the way of the Sizzlin’ Blue Crab Cakes(described as «Three jumbo lump crab cakes served sizzling with lemon butter» — jumbo lump it was, three it was not, unless two is the new three). All meat and like no filler, it was good as well, and likely the healthier of the two if you ignore all the butter. We ended up upgrading two sides for 4 bucks each to the deliciously sinfully sweet Sweet Potato Casserole and the tasty savory/sweet Fire Roasted Corn. Both yummy decisions that I’d most definitely be up for again. This time however, I started with their Spicy Chicken Tortilla Soup, which did have some zip, but not too much for this spice wimp. Although, admittedly, I enjoyed taming it with buttered pieces of bread, as I found it went well together. The Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake was creamy, dense, and not too sweet — quite enjoyed by me, though my DCs preferred the bread pudding of the past.

Vinny took care of us and he was awesome! We ordered a half dozen oysters, the crabcakes, lobster bisque, a 16 is ribeye, a filet on bone, lobster tail, green beans and sweet potato casserole. My only complaint and reason for 4 stars, was the fact that I was disappointed in their green beans. Overly salted. I took a couple bites and burnt my tongue from the salt. Otherwise, the meal and service were wonderful.

I came here for my birthday dinner and I was really impressed with the service. The staff was aware it was a special occasion and they decorated the table with metallic confetti words. It also happened to be restaurant week when we dined here! For the first course, I got a corn chowder. It was very classic and simple, but delicious nonetheless. The portion was just right because if I would have had any more, I probably wouldn’t have room for the rest of the courses. For my main course, I ordered the New York strip. Although the protein was seasoned well, it was a little over-cooked for me. I usually like my steak medium rare, but it was 5 degrees more than how I like it. The steak was pink in the center and firm rather than a warm red center. As for the side, I got the mashed potatoes, and it was creamy and buttery! They upgraded our desserts and I got a crème brûlée. The dessert was the highlight of the meal because I love crème brûlée! That might not be a good thing because after all, this is a steak house! The dessert wasn’t too sweet and the tartness of the fruits balanced the sweetness of the cream and the hard caramel layer. Ruth’s Chris has a good deal during restaurant week!

I came here for restaurant week. For $ 38 you can get 3 courses. This is a great deal! The restaurant looks like an old fashion steak house. It is very elegant, with tall ceiling and dim lighting. For first course, I ordered the corn chowder. It was rich and creamy. The soup had sweet corn, onions, and bacon. It was tasty but nothing too impressive. Second course, I ordered the filet mignon. This was a little disappointing. The steak did not have a good seat. It just seem like it was broiled in the oven. It lacked seasoning. I also requested for medium rare but the temperature of the steak was more towards medium– medium well. I can definitely make a better steak at home. Especially because this was Ruth’s Chris, I also had higher expectations. For dessert, I got to try the crème brûlée and cheesecake. I came here for my birthday so the server made the dessert extra special. The dessert was delicious. I enjoyed it a lot. Service was really great. The courses were delivered accordingly. Drinks were also refilled without having to ask.
