I’ve had takeout from here twice. If I’d reviewed it after the first visit, there’d be another star. The second visit was disappointing. The food was prepared quickly and the price was reasonable, but the best I can say is that it wasn’t greasy. The pork fried rice was strangely devoid of pork and flavor. The orange chicken was bland, and the broccoli was cooked until it was dead, and then it got cooked again. The boneless barbecued spareribs were okay, just.

I have lived in East Boston for 17 years now and Hong Kong Harbor is the best Chinese food by far. Allways fresh and hot the best steak terriyaki Ive ever had

I never had a bad meal here. Great crab rangoon and the rice is always fresh. They are not stingy on duck sauce and are competitively priced. I also like how the front of the store opens so it is like you are dining outside

Great food, they had the patio doors open — dining was a pleasure ! Not sure why anyone would not like this — for a «fast food» Chinese place it was pretty good

Surprised with the negative reviews of this place. This place is pretty much everything that a takeout Chinese food place should be. Also some of the best boneless spareribs I have ever had.

What a interesting review thread! Huge thumbs up and thumbs down going on… anyway I eat here(to some peoples disgust apparently) on a fairly regular basis. I think its solid Chinese. Not fantastic, or with complex flavors that involve fresh herbs and what not(which I love). To be honest though I am not comparing it with those types of Chinese places. Its just a solid place. Go there yourself and just look around you will see its all in the open and kept pretty clean.

Best crab rangoons ever ! They are always filled very well and they are never too greasy or cold ! The shrimp with broccoli is also very good here ! And all of the workers are very nice !

By no means is this the best Chinese food around, but after a night of consuming copious amounts of alcohol and catching the train home before last call, this place is your best friend. Well, if you live in East Boston, it’s your best friend… The service is quick and the portions are big. Exactly what you need to keep the hangover demons at bay.

So far so good. I take out when I’m tired of the American fast food here, and I’ve had pretty okay experience with the food and service. I’ve had worse, so maybe I’m just accustomed to this kind of food already.

This is by far the worse and most disgusting food I have ever(seen or) tasted. Caveat emptor! I’m not sure what is used to make the food but I’m sure it is cut rate. Don’t dare buy the chicken is not fresh,(hell it might not even be chicken). The food is not appetizing and its presented like slop.

Ordered teriyaki meal. Came with fried rice and chow mein. Typically when I dislike a meal and can’t force myself to eat it, I’ll offer it to my dog. I wouldn’t even offer this to my dog, it’s absolutely disgusting. In addition, the workers are not friendly. It’s as if they are rude to all customers, because customers are rude to them. After purchasing this meal, it is clear why customers are confronting. The food sucks! Airliners serve better food than this. Save yourself time and money. Go elsewhere!

I don’t know what the other reviewers are talking about but this place is great. Its not super fancy and your food is served in to go boxes. 4 of us walked here from the Embassy Suites. We had steamed vegetables w/rice, Sweet and Sour chicken, General Gaus Chicken and beef w/broccoli. Each meal came with a side of your choice and pork fried rice. 4 meals and 4 drinks were right at 40.00. The food came out quick, hot and plentiful we even brought leftovers back. We will definitely come back when staying near Boston Logan.

If you’re looking for cheap, low quality food you will probably regret eating later, eat here.

Woof. Is it 1:30am? Have you had several drinks of varying elixirs and strength? Is everything in MavSquare closed for the evening? Has food not touched your lips for quite some time? If you end up at Hong Kong Harbor, it’s imperative you fulfill at least two of the above requirements in order to be only marginally disappointed.

I think an important book says that man cannot live on bread alone. It’s either Shakespeare or maybe Hume, I can’t remember which. Point is. No, man cannot live on bread alone, but man can certainly try to live on scallion pancakes alone. If he does, he might as well get his pie on at Hong Kong Harbor. The unassuming and cramped little place in Eastie makes delicious scally cakes: crispy and filled with plenty of scallions, surprisingly un-oily, and cheap as hell. A shame that most other things here are bland: Szechuan and Yu-Hsiang chicken that both taste of celery and peanuts but no spice at all, egg drop soup that is so watery you can see right through it, tough and flavorless pork in lo mein slimy with grease. I maintain that Teriyaki Yummy in Chelsea is better, despite its cringe-worthy name. Oddly, HKH includes stale white dinner rolls and applesauce with every meal, a gesture that, if bizarre, is kind of nice. So. Stay for the scally cakes, go elsewhere for dinner.

I saw the reviews on here and decided that I’d try a different Chinese place, actually out in Chelsea, first. I was utterly disappointed, so I decided to damn the reviews and try it myself one night on my way home from work. I only ordered appetizers: chicken fingers, crab rangood and beef terriyaki. I can’t attest to their entrees. It was all so delicious that I totally pigged out and ate every last bite of it. That was plenty of food for one person, but I was so wowed by the taste of everything that I didn’t care. My dog was also a big fan of the beef terriyaki, which is his favorite treat, hands down. As far as I’m concerned, this is great Chinese food at Maverick and I’ll be going back, regularly.

Again, another place that let me down as I went on my initial search for good Chinese food in East Boston. Yes, they deliver, and yes they are open late, but I would probably need to be pretty intoxicated to truly enjoy this meal. Not the worst I’ve ever had, so I’ll go two stars but this joint is not somewhere I would recommend to others as a first choice. I don’t think I’m asking for too much. I just want more meat than breading in the General Gao’s Chicken!

Since it’s a five minute walk form my apartment, I tend to frequent this place. I get the chicken and broccoli rice plate and wings regularly. It’s around $ 10 and delicious. No matter how many times I have asked for them to not include them, I usually end up with at least three pouches of duck sauce and/or soy sauce and/or hot mustard. I have an extensive collection of these in my cupboard if anyone’s interested.

The Good: Convenient to people who use Maverick T. Open late. Big Menu. The Bad: This chinese joint is def not the best if your in Eastie. There is way better chinese food out in East Boston . Food taste is bland and not really flavorful. (have given them numerous trys) You get what you pay for , at this place. They are redoing everything in there so maby it will get better(?) The Ugly: Locally, others have been heard refering to it as «Hong Kong Garbage»…just saying

My fail-safe cure for a hangover: 1 couch 1TV showing football or reruns of «The Girls Next Door» Several bottles of Coca cola Copious amounts of Chinese food Hong Kong Harbor satisfies not only the chinese food portion, but it allows me pursue the first two, uninterupted, because they deliver and they do it with the quickness. Their menu is ginormous and they have a bunch of different combo platters, all for about $ 8. Plus, you’ll have tons of leftovers. No, this is not the best Chinese food ever, but it’s good, it’s ridiucloudly cheap, they take credit cards and I did not have to leave the house to get it.
