New Years day traditional spot. Very convent location. Walk-able from T stops and also paid parking lot right next to them. Carts come around with many options. All kinds of Dim-Sum and other hot treats. They have soup and other interesting things to try. Desert carts as well. Tea is hot and the service is constant. They are open late on weekends. Very small bar and no seats for drinks only occasion.

I only go here when my friends have drunchies after the bars close. This is probably one of the few, if not the only place, open past 2 am. It can get pretty packed — downstairs and upstairs are usually full of drunk people. Nothing special about the food here; it serves its purpose for drunchies but would not drop by during the day or when sober.

A large rat ran in the middle of the dining room as we were eating our meal. Staff simply noticed the rat and ignored it, doing nothing about it. Absolutely disgusting

First of all, the listed opening time is 8:00AM, but the place doesn’t take orders until about 8:30AM, making it no earlier than any of the other dim sum places in Chinatown. The food here is all okay, really nothing out of the ordinary. The dim sum here doesn’t have moving carts, but instead more individual ones, because the selection is not as big here compared to some places like Hei La Moon. The 糯米雞 is also not too good here, so I wouldn’t recommend that. One particular thing that this place does worse than Hei La moon is also the decore, and the availability of lighting. The place is somewhat dark and dingey, and while environments which are less bright might do it for some people, it was unappealing for me. The place is somewhat expensive, and considering you need to pay a tip here, I’d say it isn’t really worth it.

This location is easy to find and is very comfortable and clean. I really enjoyed the steamed pork buns and highly recommend this location. Good prices also.

I come here often for lunch, the prices are fair and the food is decent. I will warn you NOT to order the plate with the pork ribs in black bean sauce because it was all onion and bones! The restaurant appears fairly clean and the staff there are pretty decent as well. I don’t know what dim sum is, but a lot people come here for that so I may try it. Good Chinese take-out.

Stays open late and decided to give it a shot since I was out late. Mainly drunk people here at night and don’t know if I’ll drop by during the day. Anyways, ordered a beef chow fun and it was okay, nothing special. Service was quick and with two security guards at night. Definitely worth dropping by at night after drinking and you get hungry. Also if you want to order fried rice, order something nice cause they keep extra orders in a cart sitting out in the back until you order #nasty

If you’re wasted, it’s 2am, and you are about to chew your own arm off, you’ve come to the right place. This joint is an after hours institution for early hangover prevention. Yummy, greasy Chinese food AND you can keep drinking! Don’t be dissuaded by the rent-a-cop standing guard to check IDs; if he actually has to do anything, you can get some entertainment while you wait for your table.

Unfortunately they over charged us this time around but because we were in a rush to be somewhere I didn’t have time to ask or look at a menu to add up the prices. I did kinda told the lady this doesn’t look right I told her my kids and I did not eat worth $ 62 worth of dim sum. They are 3 – 4 years old they barely even touched or ate anything and my husband and I know what we like and we got a total of 6 little plates.(We always eat the same dim sum) Did the prices go up? That lady who tallied our bill did look like she was husltin that day… She kept talking in Chinese and I couldn’t understand a thing. I will not be back, the dim sum wasn’t that great, the shrimp shumai we got was dry and hard in the outside. I will go to China star in lowell, MA. Where all the old servers are more pleasant and welcoming. All the servers here looks so grumpy and annoyed if you don’t pick from their cart. Oh they even charged us for hot tea. Like come on do u really think my kids will drink hot tea. The lady said $.50 for each person and I didn’t ask for hot tea in the first place. Yup going else where. :)

I used to come here for dim sum with my parents when we were younger and I think that dim sum is the only thing that they do well here. It is a hike when you go on the weekends as there aren’t many parking spots available and chinatown driving ettiquette during the weekends are hell due to the mass of people trying to do their weekly grocery shopping as well as people finding places to eat. The dim sum here is really good. I don’t know why but I believe that the 2nd and 3rd floor dim sum options are always better than the 1st floor. Maybe I am going crazy and its some placebo effect, but I never want to be seated on the first floor! Lately, I have been venturing to this place for late nights with my friends as there arent many places that are open as late as Chau Chow, however, I hate that it is doesnt feel clean. Everytime I go we always get dirty tea cups, plates, and chopsticks. The food we order tends to be either too salty or too msg filled. I have a sensitivity to msg so trust me I have a better radar of msg detection. All in all, it’s not my first choice when it comes to chinese food, with the exception of maybe dimsum, but if there’s no place open and I am really hungry, then i’ll hike up here.

So you go here for dim sum with like infinity of your friends, someone says, «hey, dim sum, meet at 10AM to beat the crowd,» and you actually get up and get there at 10AM on a Sunday morning because dim sum, right, and you point at the dishes being brought around and have a little of this and a little of that and this all adds up to a stupendous amount of food and it’s all pretty delicious, and then you get the check and it’s like $ 10 per person, which is amazing. Then you’re all fueled up to do something amazing with your day, or at least ready for a food-coma-induced afternoon nap.

More like a 3.5 Stars but I’ll round up. I remember coming here after a long and tiring night at The Estate. Like everyone, one gets hungry after a night out of drinking and dancing at the wee hours of the night. This place offers regular and average Chinese food. Nothing really stood out to me, but the fact that they are open so late gives them brownie points. Service was pretty good considering the time and the crowd(drunk people). Parking is a hassle and pretty tight at their private lot.

DESCRIPTORS! Delicious, mediocre, fancy, wild — all of these are the Chau Chow experience. Delicious — we went for the standard offerings this time around. Maybe it was the late dinner pains, or the low expectations — either way the Sweet and Sour Pork, General Tso’s Chicken, and tea were perfect. Just. Wow. My face. So happy. Mediocre — while the meat dishes were exactly what my belly wanted, the Eggplant Garlic Sauce was not even close to what I wanted/expected. Gooey at a strange level, tasteless, barbed hooks protruding through — no wait, that’s just how I felt. No barbed hooks. Just gross eggplant that may have been 30 years old. Fancy — take a look around! Elegant stairways, branded plates and cups, fabric napkins?! You’re in the middle of a Wild — this place attracts a strange crowd late at night. And by strange I mean, the stragglers who have been getting bottle service at the clubs, yet the clubs tell them to go home, and they decide to have fancy, mediocre, delicious, late-night eats. Sometimes there are guns involved. Check the Globe for recent shooting news. I’ve started living two floors above Chau Chow in August 14′. Since then, only two shootings. I guess that’s ok? My wife and I feel OK about it. You should, too. But honestly, if you’re at Chau Chow before 2am, you’re bound to have a delicious, mediocre, fancy, and not-so wile experience!

This is probably the most consistent, reasonably priced, and overall delicious dim sum place I have been to. I have been to dim sum places in several other cities, including New York, and I always think back to this one to compare and Chau Chow always comes out on top. I have never been to the other Boston options for Dim Sum because they are more expensive and I cannot imagine that they are better. The pork shu mai is perfect and the buns are delicious. The shrimp options are good and, being in Boston, there are Lobster dim sum options(dumplings, meatballs). They have dumplings available that they do not bring around normally but are on the menu and you can order them. The deserts are standard for dim sum and good. I have not tried their regular or late menus. The flaws this place has are standard for dim sum. There are limited non-pork options(but more than most places), the service is pretty bad/most waitresses do not speak English, and it is relatively greasy. The tea is meh and they could be more generous on the hoisin and chili sauces(you can ask for more, but they only give you one small sauce bowl at a time). That said, again I have not had better dim sum.

Let’s say I had the best fried rice I’ve ever had here. I mean I went to town on this dish. Aside from that I was one of those 2am drunk diners. But I swear by that rice. We also shared the ginger lobster. Lobster was overcooked but like I said I was preoccupied. I was told about the tea– I wasn’t given any:( Sceevy diners at that time. But it was a good time and some good fried rice. I’m not a big«Chinese» food fan but next time I’m in Boston I will be ordering a whole lot of rice to go!

I was in Boston for a weekend to attend a music festival. Me and my friends arrived pretty late and we were staying around the Copley Sq area. 2AM on a Saturday and we were so freaking hungry. After Unilocaling here and there, finally found 3 places in Chinatown that were still open, Chau Chow City being the least crowded so we ended up here. Food was ok, I have experienced better elsewhere. But for late nights, this is definitely a good spot since it’s open until 4AM. Price is pretty reasonable too

Pros: This review is for the dim sum. Haven’t had dim sum in months and was so happy to have this as an option. All my favorites were there. The food was the right temperature and texture. The service was attentive without being overwhelming. Cons: Parking in this area is a huge pain. Don’t know what was going on this morning, but all the nearby pay lots were full. Got lucky and found street parking a couple blocks away.

Franchement moyen.
