Points for convenience, I guess. I’ve had Einstein at home back in Jersey and remember it being very good, but this bagel was very not. The bread itself was meh(crust and bread was just soft, not moist or chewy or anything) and the onion & chive spread had a really weird flavor… almost a chemical flavor. ANYWAY, I was super pumped because really good bagels are hard to get up here. Bruggers get it the best. Recommend walking to the one in Kenmore if you’re really after a good bagel.

This place makes me so happy! It’s location is pretty convenient before/after classes in CAS. The place can get horrendously busy during those times, though and the place is so small that people don’t know where to stand in line or wait for food once they’ve ordered. The vanilla hazelnut coffee here is to DIE for. If you are trying to decide between Starbucks or Einstein’s, pick Einstein’s. You won’t regret it. Also, the Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich thing is delicious. It keeps you coming back and wanting more! The bagels themselves are pretty small, but they load the sandwich with layers and layers of toppings, so they’re quite filling. There are a few tables and booths that honestly get filled up really easily. If you’re lucky and go during class times or in the evening, it’s a very chill space to go do homework or hang out with friends. Unfortunately, when it’s busy and you can’t find a table, there isn’t some other place to go and sit, unless you like the floors of CAS… Best of luck with that. The staff is very friendly too. I just want to give them all hugs!

Lox is so good! Both times they gave me a generous portion of lox, and I give lots of credit to any place that knows you can’t have lox without capers. Thanks BU, now I need a weekly bagel budget.

Nestled in the semi-surprisingly prime location of the basement of the Boston University College of Arts and Sciences building, Einstein Bros. serves up more than their signature bagels. Prices and payment restrictions hamper the otherwise well-situated, decent shop. Bagels, soups, salads, sandwiches, and a decent selection of drinks make this a good place to stop on your way to class. Running late? You’re in luck since they’re typically very quick even during the rush hours. Top it off with courtesy and service gets a tip of the hat from me. The actual food is passable and decidedly better than anything you’ll get from the vending machines strewn around the building. The fresh juice is a nice touch and the rotation of soups and special sandwiches give the place a nudge up and away from what could have easily turned into a convenience store with a microwave. My primary complaints are for the prices and payment options. For $ 8.50, I would hope for more than a cup of albeit good soup and a naked salad. For the convenience of being able to practically do a walk-by on my way to class, I can partially forgive them. However, that is erased by the ever-unpopular no credit/debit rule. They accept cash and the BU meal plan/points ONLY. Pro tip: Show your Boston University ID for tax exemption and the occasional student deals. No ID? No problem but remember to CARRYCASH.

The tasty turkey bagel sandwich is major tasty, but also major expensive. I blocked out the exact price from my mind because it was traumatizing, but it was no less than seven dollars. Also, people complain about seating in the GSU, but at least I can always find a seat there. The day before spring break, every seat was taken at Einstein Bros, so I sat on the floor in the hallway. Sad face.

Don’t get in a line longer than 6 people… seriously, what are you people thinking?! the bagel sandwiches are pricey, but good, and they have excellent fresh OJ.

Located in the basement of the College of Arts & Sciences at BU, it’s great for in between classes, to grab a bagel or a fruit cup(and get rid of some of those points that come with my dining plan) but, if I were paying out of pocket, I probably wouldn’t go crazy. Their bagels taste fresh, but their sandwiches look only okay and are a bit pricey. If anything, my favorite things here(besides the fruit cups, because they are the only place on campus you can find strawberries) is the broccoli and cheddar soup. It’s rich, strong even, but it’s filling, and great on break in between class. Go for the soup, or the fruit, or even a bagel if you’re not particularly picky, and you’ll be satisfied, but not raving.

Please allow me to indulge in a brief«When I was at BU…» reflection and make me feel old. So, when I was at BU the area that is now the wonderful Einstein Bros. Bagels was a nasty little cafeteria that was home to a cart, literally, a cart, where you could by a variety of foul tasting croissants, bagels and muffins. I used to always torture myself and get a spinach and feta croissant which I tried to convince myself would be good this time but perpetually sucked. There were also a few vending machines there as well as a change machine that I used to use to get quarters for my laundry. Now, all this has changed and we have a newly renovated space that is home to Einstein Bros Bagels. I love this place. Their lattes are really good and a bit cheaper than Starbucks. I also adore the asiago cheese bagel made with real asiago cheese. Staff is always nice and friendly. You kids don’t know how good you’ve got it!(Okay, now I feel even older). Btw, CASHONLY or BU points. Credit cards are not accepted.

Another hidden eatery in BU and another bloody bagel place. What’s with this passion for bagels at BU? From Kenmore to BU Bridge there’s already Bruegger’s Bagels, Ferretti’s Bagels, Bagel Rising(in the ERC) and Aesop’s Bagels. Do BU students exclusively live on these donuts of bread or are they just a great money-maker? Looking at the tiny portion of smoked salmon they gave me within my big-ass sesame bagel, I’d say it’s the latter. Bagels must be ker-ching at the register for the owners. I paid nearly $ 6 for my lox bagel. That seems to be the going rate in Boston too, which messes with my head as the 24-hr place I go to in London which bakes them fresh charges about $ 3.20 — and that’s with crazy London rent prices, crazy dollar exchange rate and taxes that give free healthcare and education all factored in. Having said all that, for an underground eatery(go through either of the fallout shelter doors either side of the the 705 entrance) this is quite a welcoming looking spot with comfy booths. They offer coffees, salads, sandwiches and some pastries too, nothing original there. The bagel choices are good though — with choc chip, blueberry and cinnamon frosted all making their first appearance to my eyes. I’d say that my sesame bagel was a pretty good bit of bread. I’ll be back to try more — probably for breakfast, probably not for lox again.
