Fave! Love the house music at night while I eat my favorite sushi and rolls. The green tea is great, and they are always around filling up my cup

Very delicious sushi! I decided to get take out which only took 20 minutes from the time I called in. I got the sushi dinner and a couple of orders of sashimi. The fish was very fresh and I enjoyed it very much. The only downside is that everything is very expensive and over priced. The salmon and chu toro was to die for.

Only ever had takeout/delivery from here and even so– by the time we sit down and actually get to eat it– it’s still some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.

Mixed reviews for this restaurant had me anxious as I waited for my food to arrive tableside. Glad I took a chance on this place because it was very, very good. I ordered a sweet potato tempura appetizer and I liked how the pieces were cut for presentation — it was very different than I’ve had elsewhere. Tasted great too. Then I had a selection of rolls: Crazy roll(shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber & spicy mayo), Torch roll(avocado, cucumber & spicy mayo wrapped with seared yellowtail; touch of yuzu sauce & tobiko), and Phoenix roll(crab stick, tempura crumbs with spicy mayo wrapped with seared salmon; touch of unagi sauce & tobiko — i HATE eel and eel sauce so i subbed mango sauce for the unagi). All were fantastic. Really just a wonderful dinner option in Back Bay.

Delicious and super friendly for take out(they have a separate section to the left of the entrance where you can order to-go or take from their prepacked selection). The rolls here are reasonably priced but you should just do a sushi dinner if you are in the mood for variety! This place can definitely get packed because it’s near the train station(and it’s delish) but is definitely worth a stop if you’re hankering for sushi in Boston!

I had worst Japanese restaurant experience ever! I came to Boston for a business trip and came to this place because the review are good. But, the food came out bad! The soft shell crab were stale, and the worst is the green tea tempura ice cream, it was hard like rock. I couldn’t even cut it! I will never come here again and suggest to my friends and coworkers.

I am not sure if we came on an off night but must admit I am greatly disappointed in the food here. I want to start with the positives, modern décor and conveniently located. Our server was attentive and our food arrived in good time despite the fact that the place was packed. However, the soft shell crab tempura was not fresh at all and very«fishy»… Spicy tuna roll was mediocre and the tuna used again was not the freshest, cannot compare to the tuna we had the night before at the Atlantic fish company. The red spider roll was just ok as well. It fell like having mall sushi at a what should have been a proper sushi restaurant. Very disappointing.

Excellent Japanese food with a Western twist(don’t expect to find particularly authentic Japanese food here, but this is interesting too). We’ve had many dishes and everything was exquisite. On the downside, it was a bit overpriced and the wait staff way too eager(they kept dropping by our table, eager to take dishes that looked like they weren’t needed any more, and sometimes we had to tell them no). But I guess that would be considered good, prompt service by Americans, so oh well.

Have only been here once for dinner on a Friday night in the summer a while back. We got a few sushi rolls, miso soup, and seaweed salad to split. It was very crowded in here and had a modern vibe/décor which was pretty cool. Enjoyed all the rolls except one — it came with crunchy tempura flakes yet this wasn’t specified on the menu. Someone in our party couldn’t eat these because of health restrictions and didn’t want to wait for a new order to come back out since it was so crowded. Will definitely come back and hope nothing like that happens again!

It’s definitely modern and cozy inside. I got a seat at the bar and the bartender was very nice. I initially ordered the shochu dream which was good but at $ 12 a pop, it was a really small cocktail. It tasted good, unique, not very sweet, a little sour. I ordered the gyoza and the sushi dinner. I was told the sushi dinner came with 12 pieces so I thought I would be stuffed! The gyoza were good but the sauce that came with it was not dipping sauce, it was just soy sauce. Fail on that, too salty. The sushi looked delicious but they were so small. I ate all 12 pieces and I was still hungry. The fish was tasty and fresh, so no complaints other than the size. For $ 30, it was a bit small. I got the coppa marscapone for dessert and it was very yummy. But again, small. I ate all that and I was still hungry. I also got two glasses of wine and it brought my bill jus shy of $ 100. So I thought the food was good but overall, not much value.

I asked my mom what she wanted to do for her birthday and she said she wanted to have Japanese food for dinner so I did my «research» and made a reservation at Douzo. Douzo is a Japanese restaurant located in Downtown Boston. The restaurant is lightly decorated for Thanksgiving(e.g., owl, fall leaves, turkey statue). The perks of a dinner reservation is that the restaurant to offer $ 5 validated parking at the Pilgrim Parking Garage next door. For drinks, we ordered warm sake, hot green tea, and iced water. For dinner, we shared a few cold and hot small plates, tempura, yaki, two dinner entrees, and dessert. For cold small plates, I’d recommend the Torched Salmon, which consists of two balls of sweet and savory crab meat and cucumber salad, topped with torched salmon, and drizzled with sweet eel sauce. For the hot small plates, we shared the Agedashi Tofu and Nasu Dengaku. The Agedashi Tofu consisted of deep fried tofu in a lightly spiced fish broth. This was the first time it wasn’t in dashi broth. The server gave us cute bowls to use. The Nasu Dengaku consisted of sauteed eggplant marinated in sweet miso sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds. They had an interesting way to serve tempura — each order comes with two pieces. We ordered the Sweet Potato Tempura and(Kabocha) Squash Tempura. I wasn’t expecting white kabocha though. For yaki, we got one of each of the yaki —(1) Salt and Pepper Kobe Beef,(2) Teriyaki Chicken,(3) Seared Scallops topped with Mentaiko Aioli,(4) Shrimp in Garlic Butter,(5) Asparagus Brushed with Yuzu Butter, and(6) Salt and Pepper Shiitake Mushroom. Among the yaki, my favorite was the seared scallop and my least favorite was the asparagus. I felt that the Asparagus Yaki lacked flavor. For entrees, we shared the Sashimi Dinner and Black Cod Miso Yaki. The Sashimi Dinner consisted of 19 pieces of thickly sliced sashimi selected by the Chef. Tonight’s featured salmon, tuna(e.g., big eye, albacore, bluefin), yellowtail, white fish wrapped around a bundle of carrots and cucumbers on top of salmon eggs, and tamago. The Black Cod Miso Yaki was served over grilled asparagus. in a sweet miso sauce. We ended our meal with a scoop of Ginger ice cream and Red Bean ice cream, one stacked up against each other.

I came in here around 2:20 pm and it was somewhat packed. However food was served quickly and service was alright. The food was okay, not bad yet not great. The oyster shots were a little too salty, but I did enjoy the red spider roll.

Sigh I’ve been so disappointed by the sushi in Boston so far and Douzo wasn’t an exception. It certainly is a nicely decorated and trendy place. It was crowded even on a weekday night and the tables were quite crammed together. The table next to us was being very loud, not conducive to a nice dinner conversation. The prices are very high. Any fancier rolls are over 20 bucks each. Certainly part of the price come with nicer ingredients, however I don’t think getting them on a crazy roll, where you can’t even taste the individual ingredients, is worth the extra money. I’m usually a chirashi kind of girl and get this everywhere I go. I think it’s the best way to evaluate a place, quality of the fish and quality of the rice. Simple and I don’t have to check off a long sushi list. While I did think it was one of the better ones I’ve had in Boston, I’ve had equally good ones in LA for much cheaper…

I had high hopes for this but unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. The menu wasn’t as creative as I thought it’d be, it seemed like any other Japanese restaurant, so I thought maybe the quality would be on another level, but again, it just seemed ordinary. Ordered typical rolls with eel, avocado, a spicy scallop, spicy salmon, spider roll. They weren’t bad, just not amazing. The sashimi platter was iffy, I stuck to just the salmon since the other pieces didn’t seem as fresh. Pretty disappointing. And to add insult to injury it was on the pricier side. I’d rather save up and go to oya than come back here

Another sushi place in my US stay. This place is very close to Boston Back Bay Station, so you can get there very easily and it is not very far from the downtown. The restaurant is somehow big, when you first enter through two doors, staff will attend you and take you to your sitting. They have both table and lounge areas, so maybe they will ask you which one you prefer, as I was one person I chose to sit down in the bar area. The bar area has the typical bar, with some tall chairs and small tables for two people(they can be grouped) and some TV screens with sports or random stuff. There are some kinds of Sake and Japanese beer, other than the usual ones. In the menu I only looked for sushi-style food, there are sushi, rolls, maki and sashimi among others. I chose some with tuna, salmon and yellowfish, and they were very fresh and tasty. It’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but it was really good, it was prepared when ordered. The wasabi was also very good, it mixed really well with the soy sauce and the flavour was awesome, very spicy tho. The service was also very good, I asked for some advice and what they recommend me was the best(Yellowfish).

Stopped in at Douzo after a Sox game on a whim, they have onsite parking. Left with a new go to spot in Boston the next time I’m in town. Bellied up to that bar and let the bartender choose our dinner for us. I was absolutely blown away, course after course, and it makes me wonder if I should ever order my own food again. We started with Spicy Scallop on sushi rice. Beautiful, soft luscious diced scallop with a bit of heat resting on a handformed cake of crispy Japanese short grain rice, the flavor and blend of texture was spot on. Next, a bowl of sautéed Shishito peppers to snack on. By the shape, I was expecting brutally spicy, but of course it was another surprise. The peppers have this great green vegetable flavor, a little softer than green bell peppers, that matches the softened texture from the skillet, the smokey flavors of the browned skins, a little salt, and miso, and a spicy dipping sauce. Great dish. Then, a bit of yellowtail. Hamachi is my favorite sashimi, well of the stuff I know to pronounce anyway, and our Sushi chef served us some gems. Words are not going to do justice to these masterfully cut pieces of fish, you’ll have to look at the pictures. Served to us with sliced Jalapeño and a garlic Yuzu, who knew we were just getting started. The steam baskets arrive. A set of Japanese bamboo steam baskets come to the table, as we take a breather, and I am expecting a dumpling of some sort. Nope, surprise again, its a sandwich. Hot and steamy Char Siu Bao, pork belly and pickled cucumber in soft and chewy pillow. Delicious. Our first platter of sushi; Salmon Nigiri, a unique Ika Sushi done Tempura style that I am not sure how to describe, and Crispy Toro, a spicy Nori roll topped with diced tuna belly. Those lasted about 2 minutes. Fantastic each and every one, and we dive in again for our final coup de grâce: The eponymous Red Sox roll, loin cuts of Yellowtail sashimi, Snow Crab cucumber cones, and the house Torch Roll. Oh that Torch Roll, if there was a second star of the night, our bartender was first, these would be that second. Seared Yellowtail wrapped around a center of avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo, then topped with a touch of Yuzu and roe. Quite an evening, very good Sushi.

Kinda depressing(half jokingly) that this is my go-to sushi restaurant in Boston. My favorite place always requires several days of advanced reservation, but sometimes, I just want something… NOW. For all the great, fresh seafood this coast has to offer, Douzo’s sushi fare is depressingly uncreative, and underwhelming. But… it’s fresh, and the non-sushi cooked items are actually pretty damn good. For example, they have the best ohitashi in town(chilled cooked spinach in sesame sauce), have very tasty(and generously portioned) udon, and have one of the best lunch-time value menus in town… and I strongly recommend their grilled duck lunchbox. Dessert is ok. But note that they are one of the few Japanese restaurants in town with a somewhat decent dessert menu. It’s a good attempt, but nothing super stellar. At night, the restaurant does draw a nice crowd. Imagine a small Sonsie Café, but exclusively Japanese/sushi, and you’ve got Douzo. Pretty people, but not as snooty.

Douzo is a lunchtime staple for me as I work nearby. I’ve probably had about 15 to 20 meals from here. The sushi is good but they actually do a very good job with hot plates for those skiddish of raw fish. The food is quite good and the quality of the restaurant(and overall style) is inviting with nice tall ceilings. Sometimes the service can be slow, which isn’t always ideal when you’re trying to have a quick lunch. Honestly though it’s convenient if you need a good excuse to skip out of the office for a bit longer.

Popped in here for a quick lunch when Oishii couldn’t take us for restaurant week lunch. Perhaps it was what I ordered. Then again, I ordered the Okamase lunch special, which to me should be the very best mix of sushi you could try at a restaurant. Well, my sushi sampling was prepared fresh but we ended up needing to order an extra spicy hamachi maki to supplement our somewhat still hungry tummies. Portions here could be a tad larger. All in all, the sushi was good but there wasn’t any particular piece I tasted that was memorable. We did sit at the sushi bar and saw a bunch of other creative maki rolls that looked great. Service was cheery, prompt and efficient but maybe next time we should go directly to the sushi bar, point at the food and hope for the better results?
