Nice yarn shop… standard yarns that you can pretty much find anywhere. Some reviewers complained about customer service and I have to say that was not my experience at all. I was greeted at the door, and my questions where answered very politiely. I had to make a return the next day and was given excellent assistance with the return and with purchasing some needles… If you love yarn and are in Bloomington, give this shop a visit…

I was in town for a conference and was ecstatic to find what I thought was a little neighborhood gem. Instead I found staff that didn’t acknowledge me, or ask me if I had questions, and basically ignored me. I felt very uncomfortable asking a simple question about a display example. An aloof staff member looked through the kit basket(which I had already looked through) & said«we don’t have any more». I asked if she sold the pattern & she only said«no»…at this point I was done. Any other knit shop I frequent would have asked«do u want me to order it for you», or «you may find the pattern here», common discussion among fellow knitters. But it was clear the attitude was I wasn’t worth waiting on. Mind you I had $ 70+ of yarn in my hands. This seems like one of those knitting shops if you’re not in their clique, you’ll be treated poorly.

As a veteran knitter, I seem to have a built in compass for seeking out yarn shops(much like my husband has built in compass for finding breweries). Well I’m pleased to report that Yarns Unlimited is a wonderful shop with a great selection and beautiful displays. It’s a cozy place to take lessons and come in for knitting nights, and if I lived in Bloomington, you can bet I’d be there all the time. They offer a lot of great yarn brands, colors, weights, and styles, along with a wide selection of pattern books, magazines, needles, bags, and other fiber arts accessories. They also had several knitted items on display to help spark your creativity. It sure worked on me because I spotted a gorgeous Nimbus sweater on the wall. The shop owner kindly gave me the free pattern associated with it, and I’m as happy as a clam. Since I’m on a yarn no-buy while I attempt to work through my backlog of stashed yarn, I didn’t purchase anything. But I sure wanted to! My mother did buy two pretty felted flower brooches which are beautiful and very reasonably priced. There were also a variety of shawl pins and hand made jewelry available too. Overall a really great shop in a nice location. Come on by – you won’t be disappointed.

I usually come in here when I visit Bloomington and feel compelled to expand my stash… usually to the tune of $ 200.00. Several times I have come in here and the staff has been very unfriendly and yet I still spent money that I probably shouldn’t have but some of the yarn was just yummy. And well I had to have right then. Yesterday I was in and made my rounds through the the store but the woman behind the counter didn’t even look up to acknowledge my presence. I also noticed when two other women came in and the woman behind the counter did acknowledge them and helped both of them, the first didn’t even buy anything. When I finally asked for some help as she obviously wasn’t going to she wasn’t very much help at all. After I explained that I was interested in a specific pattern and yarn and wanted to get started right away she said oh we don’t have that. Well, needless to say the other LYS got my business as the pattern was something on Ravelry. My friend was also so appalled with the way I was treated that she put the items she was going to purchase back and we left. What a shame. I really don’t want to give this store another try it just doesn’t seem worth it.

As a newbie crocheter, I found Yarns Unlimited to be a little intimidating and unwelcoming. The woman in the store didn’t even look up from her knitting to acknowledge me. They carry a wide variety of yarns labeled with what they are. Sometimes I found it difficult to match the yarn up with its label. They also carry some books and patterns.

Yarns Unlimited is the best!!! I will miss it SOBAD when I move away. These ladies are willing to help you with pretty much anything. One day I went in and MaryAnne patiently taught me how to make snowflakes. Another time I had some terrible tangled yarn and they untangled it for me!!! THEBESTCUSTOMERSERVICEINBLOOMINGTONHANDSDOWN. Such a nice shop, such nice people, and a great atmosphere to learn and knit/crochet. They also have a fantastic selection of top quality yarn. There are so many beautiful yarns in many colors/varieties.

I don’t know how the bad reviewer didn’t have a good experience here?! I walked in with my in-progress project that I had seriously messed up and Mary Ann fixed it perfectly!(And it was quite bad…) She explained everything as she went and then gave me WONDERFUL advice for another project that I want to start soon! She really went out of her way to help me out and didnt try to upsell me or anything. I would have unravelled the whole thing if it weren’t for her :) love this place! Even though this is a specialty store it is quite affordable so don’t be intimidated. When you go in, make sure you check out the AMAZING free form crochet mural of Finding Nemo behind the register. It will blow your socks off. Not exaggerating.

This is the best yarn store I’ve ever been!!! Great yarn selection in diffrerent price range, lots of fabulous samples(both traditional and fashion-forward designs), and everybody is so helpful and knowledgeable. It doesn’t matter what day or what time you stop by at the store, the staff is always friendly and willing to help you with your current projects, pattern questions, yarn selections and whatever questions you might have about knitting and crocheting. Yarns Unlimited also offers classes for different levels so even if you’re just a beginner like me, there are classes you can take to learn about knitting and also to brush up your knitting skills. By the way, they also have all kinds of supplies not just for knitting and crocheting, but also for weaving and spinning as well. A true one-stop shop and it’s also a great place to meet new people while doing the thing you love. This is a must stop for people who love yarns and fiber arts!

Friendly, knowledgeable staff and beautiful, full range inventory! This LYS is the place for knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners to get their fiber fix! Yarns Unltd. also organizes and gets involved in great local charity projects. I love coming here, whether it is to get help with a project, select yarn and patterns, or to relax and knit with wonderful people.
