Nice little gift shop with good coffee and super friendly service. Overall, there are some good chocolates here but freshness and quality have been inconsistent. Tip: truffles are always tempting but here they tend to be overly sweet and low on flavor. I would recommend a caramel or chocolate dipped cherry instead.

Cute business, great chocolate, good selection, nice location, awesome and friendly service. What more could you want from a chocolate shop?! Prices per lb are also pretty decent in comparison to a lot of the chocolate shops I’ve visited.

I finally tried the chocolate here and I’m pleased to report, it’s pretty good! My fiancé and I always come here for a little box of dessert every time we eat at one of the restaurants nearby. I love their strawberry crème & milk chocolate bark while my fiancé prefers their milk chocolate hazel nut caramels. All of the chocolate is priced pretty decently with the barks being a bit more expensive than the solid milk chocolate or dark chocolate pieces. I find that this is also a really great place to come get a thank you gift for someone. Everyone loves chocolate right? Today, I stopped by to hand pick a box of chocolates for someone over at Career Services who has helped me a lot over the past few weeks. I think it’s more personal to be able to pick your favorites and pass them along to someone else. Anyway, needless to say, the chocolates were a huge hit. It’s a nice and fairly inexpensive way to tell someone you appreciate them. Guys, this is also a pretty good gift for your ladies«just because.» :)

I LOVE chocolate, however the Chocolate Spike is okay as chocolate shops go. A lot of the chocolate in the store is not handmade and is ordered elsewhere. The owner’s homemade chocolates are of course, more expensive, but they are unique. Some are tasty, like chipotle chocolate… others are iffy, like real ginger and lime chocolate. I like their factory, but I am not a huge fan of their store at the new shopping center. I also was bummed out when I went in there last week and found that they no longer carry the mini mint cups or the dark chocolate raspberry cups. However, if you are in a chocolate mood, this is your only option, and it’s not bad… it’s just not as amazing as it could be!

It’s nice to have a local chocolate shop. They have a great ruffle selection and I love their dark toffee caramel haystack!

I recommend Chocolate Spike for: — Personal treats(I always keep some of their solid chocolate of nonpareils around) — Gifts for family, friends, and loved ones(you can put together great gift boxes of whatever you think the person will like — I usually go with solid chocolate plus a few fancy looking truffles or chocolate covered fruit) I LOVE Chocolate Spike. My personal favorite is the bittersweet chocolate solids and the nonpareils, but I also regularly buy chocolate covered oreos and chocolate covered marshmallows as a special treat. Their chocolate-covered caramel apples(only available in fall unfortunately) are also one of my favorite foods in the whole world. I’m not a big truffle fan myself, but I ordered the«Bit of Bubbly» white chocolate truffles for my wedding and they were a huge hit. If you are ever throwing an event like a wedding, baby shower, or other party I definitely recommend ordering your party favors/treats from Chocolate Spike — you can do a tasting(don’t even bother asking how excited I was about that — the answer is VERY) and they’ll do custom shaped chocolate solids and adjust the size of truffles to fit your theme and budget. I can’t go home to my parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles anymore without a box of Chocolate Spike chocolate for each. My grandparents are diabetic but Chocolate Spike’s sugar free chocolate solids taste better than most normal chocolates so it’s always great to get a big box that everyone can enjoy without leaving anyone out! I actually like the new location more too — it means they’re open until 9pm most nights and I often forget how much I want chocolate until I finish dinner and realize I’ve run out and need more!

(Wow, I have never seen an overall rating for a business be so wrong! 2 stars is absurd.) The Chocolate Spike is one of my favorite places anywhere to get handmade chocolate and it’s right HERE in Blacksburg! I imagine if you came here looking for a café you would be disappointed, but this is a chocolate shop. It’s true that the shop lost some of it’s charm when it moved from downtown, but I am sure they do better business where they are now and I can’t really begrudge them the move. Things I love from the Chocolate Spike: — Chocolate covered candied fruits(especially orange peel) — Truffles — Plain dark chocolate or bittersweet bits that you purchase by weight. The selection of chocolate and chocolate cover goodness is extensive, but the basics do not suffer because of it. The prices are good for homemade chocolate. The chocolate is excellent quality. Buy some for yourself, your sweetheart, your mom, your officemates… they will love you for it!

The Chocolate Spike had somewhat of a gift-shop feel, and less of a place you’d like to sit and sip coffee and eat a truffle. However, I think the latter option is the model they should move towards. I would much prefer to sit down and sample chocolates with friends, rather than go in and feel semi-rushed to choose from their far too large inventory of chocolate goods. Also, they seemed to have interesting drinks such as mulled cider and sipping chocolate, so perhaps I would go back in the winter to try those. Otherwise, I did not think the actual truffles that I bought were anything special, and the pretzel that was dipped in chocolate tasted stale. Their inventory is far too large, and I think they would do a lot better if they specialized in maybe 3 chocolates, and 2 drinks, and just did those 5 things REALLY well. And had an interior more conducive to sitting. Overall, I don’t recommend this place if you’re looking for really good chocolate. Friendly staff though, and definitely a lot of potential.
