I appreciate them having a great store for the locals here in Big Bear. I won’t shop at Vons that often, I don’t think their ads are that great and their«rewards card» is a joke. At Stater’s you don’t need a card to get the weekly deals. They have digital coupons that are added to your order when you check out as well. The food in the hot deli also tastes better than what I have found at Vons. It has a small town feel inside and I don’t mind that. I also think they have some of the best meat in town.

Stater Brothers is a strange place to shop. The prices are good, the selection is good, the rest is plain weird. Even the newest stores are dated. They seem to be stuck in the 1970’s. Most of the stores do not have full service bakeries and those that do, have some of the worst bakeries I have seen in any grocery store chain.

We generally go to Vons in Big Bear for our groceries, but were looking to pick up some steaks for New Year’s dinner, and they do have a good butcher section. Got some nice, reasonably priced steaks, and some other groceries, many of which were on sale. Would come back for meats.

I have high blood pressure and anxiety and i have a support animal it just happens to be a chihuahua i know it doesn’t sound right but she helps me a lot. I have been to this store many times as i live here part time i usually prefer this store over Vons. That is until some insensitive clown starting asking me questions and talking down to me about my dog. I told him if he asked me one more question i would leave my cart full of groceries and never return to the store. He did and i did never will i go back to stater brothers in big bear. So i hope the useless employee that started enjoys losing customer of which no company can afford these days. STATERBROTHERSINBIGBEARISNOTDOGFRIENDLY…

My only criticism is towards the female manager who works weekday afternoons. Please listen to customers and let your young new male employees do their job without interfering. I just wanted to add a container salt to our order and she turned it into an embarrassing, ridiculous fiasco. I said no less than 10 times — forget it, it’s okay. She was too busy hitting on the young boy to listen until I finally pulled the item off of our belt and placed it on someone else’s. It was incredible embarrassing and stupid. I will insist she goes away if I buy food there again. I refuse to have her serve me in any way. Send that woman manager back to training for a few months for the sake of the store.

Sorry to disagree but I’ve been to both Stater and Von’s this AM and Von’s was much nicer. Maybe the butcher at Stater is better(not sure) but the rest is definitely not. Both places are a ZOO for sure but I was really impressed with the remodel, cleanliness and just super-nice attitude that the people at Von’s had today.

Don’t buy the wild salmon marked frozen and thawed. At $ 10.99 a pound it should at least be edible but it isn’t.

This store was always the go to place for the deals at markets. It’s not the same as it was back in the day. They used to have pretty good deals, but they do have better deals than Vons, Ralphs, etc though. We came here for bbq supplies, like charcoal, meat sauce, as well as mixers for drinks. We were so glad everything was in stock because the store was crowded the weekend we went…

This place is clean but the staff look like they hate there job. The butcher dept just looked angry and waiting to get off. No hello how’s it going how can I help you. Just what do you need. Kinda rude. Then the cashier with no personality looking like he doesn’t wanna be there. Look buddy if you hate your job that much then. quit I’m sure they hate tourist but that’s what Keeps businesses going. So pretend to enjoy your job. The meat I got was good with a nice marination.

The meat department was friendly, funny, helpful, and knowledgeable! Excellent customer service! The porterhouse was on sale for $ 6.99/lb and looked very fresh! We asked for the complimentary seasonig(we chose steak house) on our steaks and it was delicious! They also have a good selection of fruits and vegetables. There were at least 20 different bags of packaged salads to chose from! Their microwavable mashed potatoes were really good and it was on sale for $ 2.99. We were happy to find fresh meat and produce at great prices and excellent service! Plenty of parking too!

Terrible deli. I got sick from chicken about a week ago. Thought it was flu. Wife had me buy chicken again for daughter. She got sick from it now twice. The older blond lady working there doesnt was her hands. She is rude and not clean. I plan to file complaint with board of health and corporate office about her and there safety measures. Big Bear sucks when it comes to clean store deli’s. Von’s is even more gross. They never clean their meat cutting machines… food is on the deli cutter and they place new meat right over the old cut and uncleaned surfaces. Board of health rarely frequent Big Bear stores or restaurants. Its the one thing that sucks about this town in which I grew up. People dont care nor take pride in their work. Most are lazy & uneducated. I will be sure to complain to store manager as well. I ordered lunch meat from same lady who said her arm was tired from cutting meat and actted as if she didnt want to cut me several meats and cheese. Lazy… just go on walfare if you cant do your job right.

Every trip we have gone to Von’s. Glad I read the reviews and went to Stater Bros this time. Wonderful meat department. Great prices through out the rest of the store. I feel like I saved a ton of money. One star gone bc the beef shish kabobs were too fatty. My dog was happy about this though.

I prefer coming here over Vons across the street, but sometimes I go to Vons cause Stater doesn’t always have everything I need. Overall, the employees are friendlier and I really like that their prices are pretty much the same as any Staters down the hill. Their meat section is wonderful and the produce is pretty good as well. There’s a Redbox if you need movies, but I hate that you can only turn«left» at one of the three exits leaving that strip mall :/

There’s a Vons across the street. But why go? This Stater Bros. has more selection than any other Stater’s I’ve been to. Furthermore, you won’t get this kind of people watching anywhere else on the mountain. Well, maybe K-Mart but I highly doubt it. Tourists from all over the world come in and out of this store. I’m in Big Bear on the weekends and I would never miss a trip to Stater’s! Oh! and Vons has terrible cell service. Don’t expect a call from home asking for additional items to add to your grocery list. You won’t get the call…

Management is very friendly! Last time we were up there Tim the manager helped my grandma out when he could tell her patience was running low(because of her own issues) and he was very friendly, opened up another checkout for her and had a bag boy help us out! Not to mention the prices here blow Von’s away! Only place we will do our groceries!

To start: we vacation in big bear so we aren’t regular shoppers here… The store is clean and has good customer service, my only issue with the store is that I tried to take $ 200 cash out, the cashier didn’t have enough cash, so the cashier had to call the manager to bring the money… I had to awkwardly wait for the money while people behind me waited and then watched me get handed $ 200 cash.

This is the spot to buy all your grocery needs while in Big Bear! Always a large selection, fresh meats, clean veggies — and the employees are super super nice. If I lived by the lake this would be my place to shop.

Stater Bros. is my one of my favorite markets. we used to have this when I was growing up. I moved to Vegas and they do not exist there. I was so excited to see this in Big Bear. It was exactly how I remembered it. Same items from the good old days. The BF thought I was crazy buying random items. The meat section looked amazing as well as the fruits and veggies. They also had a great wine selection that I took full advantage of. They have 2 Redboxes in the front that were a big plus on my way out.

RESORTTOWN! Now you understand, Stater Bros. is the best option in town. Bakery can compete with any place not only in Big Bear but in the state! Very nice and quick service. Yes, if you are not from there, then most likely you are there on the weekend, or during the holidays. Then it’s going to be crowded! Because everyone else is in town also! Prices are very competitive, and more than enough stock. I can understand the locals who complain, but the out of towners! c-mon man!

Since I’m from LA I am more used to shopping at chains like Vons, but when visiting Big Bear I think I prefer shopping at Stater Bros over the local Vons. I see commercials for it «In the Heartlaaaaaaaand of California» that make this chain seem kind of red necky-country but that’s its charm. The prices are comparable and great selection on items. You can get everything you can possibly need when staying over in a cabin. Stock up on Smore’s making materials and drinks(the alcoholic kind). =p I think the alcohol section is a bit smaller than Vons but instead of quantity they go for variety. Our group bought like 10 larger bottles of Arbor Mist here to drink outta red cups, to stay classy we just held our pinkies out. Other’s just stuck a straw in the bottle and had a personal. =p I scored a couple cans of soup in the discounted shopping cart, the only defect was a dent in the can! Whooo For random discounts/fun check out these carts, the one that had great stuff was in the back towards the restrooms. I also found a pack of birthday candles for 99 cents, which was perfect as we were celebrating two birthdays that weekend. The employees here seem genuinely helpful and when I had a question they didn’t act all annoyed and rush in answering me.
