Eesh. We were very disappointed in this place. Based on the good reviews and willingness to accommodate dogs, we booked a couple of nights here for my birthday back in November. We were excited because we’d heard that the owners very friendly and were dog lovers, but our experiences didn’t match that at all. We called to place the reservation and the owner was curt and not particularly friendly, but we figured it was just a busy afternoon. When we arrived, however, the treatment wasn’t much better. We arrived a little early and let them know that we were there, and they were still running errands, which is no problem. They came back and didn’t even address us at first, and then after about 5 minutes told us irritably that they were unloading supplies and they would be with us. No problem. When they finally got around to us, they didn’t so much as ask my name or acknowledge that our dog was with us, and just told my boyfriend to follow him into the office. We were excited about the breakfast that they offered, but we didn’t want(and they don’t allow) to leave our pup in the room, so we asked if there was any way we could pay for and pick up the breakfast and take it to our room to enjoy. Instead of just saying«no, we’re not set up for that, sorry,» the response was akin to if we had asked them to hand wash and dry our car while we were there, and take care of some of our laundry while they were at it. Okay, fine. The homemade dog treats that we’d been so excited about for our pup ended up being pre-packaged treats. The room was fine, the fireplace and spa tub were nice, but we’d chosen this place above all others for the friendly service and we didn’t really receive it at all. We felt like a burden and unwelcome guests the entire time we were there. Even my easygoing boyfriend, who can find the good in any person or situation, felt as if we were unwelcome and unwanted. Whenever we come back to Big Bear with our pooch, unfortunately we won’t be staying here.

«Cozy and Charming» are the words that come to mind when I think of my stay here. My husband and I booked a ski trip to Big Bear last minute and we are so grateful we discovered this place. The property is small, consisting of 10 individual cabin rooms, but so quaint. Our room had a jacuzzi-like bathtub right next to a fire place. Like a real one – that requires real wood and real fire and real effort. There’s nothing more relaxing than a crackling fire place and soaking in an epsom salt bath. It was also perfect for soothing sore muscles after skiing/snowboarding all day. And sooo romantic too ;-). Just like the name, they provide breakfast each morning, but we did not attend. Ummm and free WiFi. Score! The owners were delightful and helpful throughout our visit. We’ve already recommended it to others and look forward to our next trip.

I was looking for a cabin for my birthday weekend, and all the great reviews on Unilocal caught my eyes! Especially how welcoming mark and his wife are. Unfortunately, I called and mark was so short and rude. When I asked if I needed to make a decision quickly or had a day or two he said, «well theres supposed to be snow fall so I imagine the cabins will fill up.» And I said okay great, so does the snow usually last until the weekend? And he said«I don’t know I’m not a weatherman.» First off, RUDE. Second off, has it occurred to you I’m from San Diego, it doesn’t snow here! Ugh. Won’t be staying here. Thanks mark!

Mark and Vicki are special people and treat everyone like family. They really go the extra mile to help you feel comfortable and right at home. Especially touching are the little details they include — «Mr and Mrs» wedding flute sign on the door and Vicki’s homemade chocolate truffles with a «Happy Anniversary» note. Every morning, a half an hour before breakfast, we’re greeted with a knock on the door to let us know fresh hot coffee and/or hot chocolate(with fresh whipped cream!) is waiting just for us on the other side. Mark and Vicki great us warmly for breakfast, starting with a delicious fresh fruit display and warm homemade monkey bread. Then arrives the most scrumptious pumpkin pancakes, savory sage breakfast sausage, and a little porcelain chicken with warm syrup. What a way to start the day! This is our second visit for our wedding anniversary. Mark and Vicki helped us to decide to make Eagle’s Nest and Big Bear our new annual tradition.
