Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered a half rack of ribs and they were amazing. Very tender and came right off the bone. My parents enjoyed their pulled pork sandwiches. My mom said the cornbread was delicious. I was bummed they don’t serve fresh iced or sweet tea. I feel like that would add to the place!

Really cool atmosphere. We went on a perfect spring day when they had just opened for the season. Pricier than what I expected and sides are a la carte. I would skip the brisket if I went back. It had no flavor at all, but was super tender. The pork and beans were delicious. I want to go back to try the pulled pork sandwich.

I have drive by this place a bazillion times and finally we went and it was three days before they close for the season and I was sooo glad that we did! This is always packed with cars and the searing(all outdoors) are always packed so you know it must be good… And it was darn good. Finger licking wipe th the sauce dripping down your chin good! So… Brisket damn good as well as the pork ribs. I got the chicken sandwich which was my mistake– stick with what bbq places are know for… Just get the meat! The meat was better! Cornbread was not too sweet Coleslaw was mayo based and I loved it Their sauce is just great! All outdoor seating… No frills, just good food. They have an outdoor sink to wash hands with. Some items are 50% off after 430… But it’s a great price whenever you go! Cute tire swing out front for kids and some cute gear in shop

Just OK. I’ve tried eating here a few times and I have never been particularly impressed. I actually enjoy the location and the feel of the place very much, but the food is just OK. Perhaps I need to branch out and try something else, but both times I’ve had the brisket and it was rather bland. It was cooked well, but rather flavorless. Could use some more seasoning or even more smokiness. The sides are decent at least. Would like to go back sometime and try the ribs. Maybe I’m missing out!

Seriously, it doesn’t get any better that this. I’ve traveled extensively and always try the local BBQ. All the food here is excellent, but by far their ribs are the best I’ve had anywhere. Not the typical Bar-B-Q grilled ribs, these are Seriously Smoked without being over cooked. Usually a light twist and the bones easily slip clean from the rack. The place is Cash Only, unpretentious in it’s backyard flair, and unfortunately of limited availability due to it’s seasonal operation. It is my Go-To place for treating visitors from around the country and foreign guests, to date no one has yet to disagree they have the Best Ribs Anywhere.

Best ribs in the stateline area. Ambience a bit funky, but clean. Service friendly and efficient. Haven’t yet tried anything else on the menu, except for the beans — which were great. This place is a treasure chest of BBQ goodness. Now if only they wouldn’t close in the fall.

What a great dinner spot on a summer evening! I didn’t think they had bar b que like this here in Illinois, but so happy to have stumbled on this place! We will be back many times to try other things on the menu. The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were the best we’ve ever had and we enjoy finding southern barbecue spots when we travel. The ribs fell of the bone and where easily eaten with a fork; the meat melted in your mouth! They were perfect. The pork and beans, baked potato, and corn on the cob were all excellent sides. The three of us ended up passing around the three different meals we ordered for everyone to have a bit of everything because it was all just so good. Friendly service too! They said they are closing Oct 3rd this year, we will be back before then! Wish they served Coke and Beer, too!

Not sure why but their price to meat ratio is so disappointing. …Still, a great setting with no expectations.

I loved this place! Had ribs and the smothered potato. After we ate they gave my kids popsicles. Will definitely come again. It’s totally worth the detour on the way to the Dells;) We ate everything down to the bone. The outdoor open air seating is great. It’s a must stop for real BBQ!

Love going to the Smokin Coop. Portions are big enough to share. We have had several things off the menu and have never been disappointed.

I was driving by on my motorcycle and the smells came overwhelming in the air. I passed it as first and had to turn around to try this roadside location. Wow the taste follows the smell. I had the pulled pork lunch special and it was mouth watering pork. I tried there homemade sauces and personally prefer the hot and spicy but both are very good. I will be back here many times.

Yum! Came to this little gem for dinner with my parents. The service was good, good came out fast and it was delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich and was not disappointed! My mom had the half rack of ribs and they were falling off the bone and delicious. The sides were also good. We had coleslaw, baked potato and cornbread. The only thing is that they close kind of early. Other than that, they are worth the stop!

For northern Illinois BBQ… You can’t beat it. Everything I’ve had is great. The out door seating arrangement is great on a beautiful summer day. Always a real treat

Wow can’t believe I have reviewed this place yet. I am new to the area but have been traveling here for 3 years. I can’t not believe my fiancé never showed me this place. I am from the south, so usually rather picky, but they have some of the best brisket I have ever had. It is a small place with outside picking bench style seating. Limited side options but I highly recommend the potato salad. Sad this place is only open in the summer. Wish they would open an inside location!

Sweet — it is everything one could hope for — the taste of the hickory smoke was just right on our brisquet sandwiches, corn bread excellent and cherry pie loaded with juicy cherries and flaky crust. Kids can play on swings. Live bluegrass music many Saturdays 3:30 pm to early evening. Closes for winter on sept 272014 — and opens again next year — spring

Smokin’ Coop, you not so well advertised secret of Northern Illinois, why do you hide? I’ve heard friends speak of you. I’ve driven past you on my trips out of town, but I’ve never seen an advertisement for you. So when it comes time for me to decide what to eat, I conveniently forget you exist. That shall happen no more! Earlier today I was craving BBQ. While running over the local places that I normally go to, I remember the Smokin’ Coop. I jumped on my motorcycle and off I went for a short drive. Located about 3.5 miles from I-90 on Business US20, The Smokin’ Coop is just a ramshackle of old buildings that have been turned into a host of American Culinary delight known as Bar-B-Que. You order your food at a window in an old cinderblock building. They have your normal selection of food. Ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, sausages, brats, etc. There is also your standard sides, fries, coleslaw, potato salad, beans, etc. There is not an indoor seating area. You have the choice of picnic tables in the grassy area to choose from or there are tables under an open shelter. Today when I went they had a lunch special; A pulled pork sandwich with chips and a soft drink for $ 6.50. I had in mind getting ribs, but that was when I noticed a sign that said«CASHONLY». I know, in this modern era of electronic dependency, it’s hard to fathom a business that doesn’t take a card! After doing a quick inventory of my cash situation(I don’t normally carry cash) I decided that the lunch deal was exactly what I wanted! Since I was on my lunch break and needed to return, I took my order to go. The girl at the window was extremely polite! I must say the pulled pork is absolutely fantastic. Tender, juice, great flavor, I never used any sauce. It had this woody smokiness that one expects from BBQ. I don’t know what all they did to the meat but it has to be some of the best pulled pork I have ever had. Mmmmm, just thinking of it as I write this has my mouth watering for more. If you want good BBQ, made the way BBQ should be made. You need to make the trip to Smokin’ Coop.
