This place doesn’t look like much, but it is special. In fact my only knock on this place is the look. It’s a shabby little building with wobbly tables and padded chairs that are shredded. Once you have the food, you forget about the appearance. The breakfast and lunch tacos are great and priced well. They have Mexican sodas, Mexican candy and sell warm tortillas. My favorite though is the pan dulce(Mexican sweet bread). Churros, conchas, orejas, cortadilla, yoyos, empanadas and much more.

Yummy! A perfect little shop. Full of all kinds of goodies. Daily pastries and baked goods. Nothing better than fresh homemade tortillas. Barbacoa and tamales you’re next on the list. P. S. breakfast, lunch and dinner served all day.

I absolutely love this place! Their dulce de leche churros are to die for made fresh every day and they never sell old baked goods. They make everything fresh handmade and their chips and salsa are perfect. Just like my grandma made it none of this tex-mex crap. This food is real mexican. And the girls that run the front are so nice and sweet.

Don’t let the outside scare you off. Looks like a seedy little joint from outside. :) Awesome traditional style food. Fresh bake goods and cold Mexican coke and Fanta in the cooler. Food is made to order and good. Tacos are awesome. Even thou all the chairs don’t match in the place,(which I like) it’s clean and friendly. Chips are thick homemade in back. Addictive. Price is really good. Nice people. Try it.

This is a hidden gem. The tacos are good and cheap. I like the salsa as well. The food is similar to the Jaliscos around here but there is a difference.

It’s taken me a long time to find my go-to Mexican restaurant here in Belton. There are tons of options, but none of the others have good salsa, which is über-important if you’re a taco fiend. Unlike most Mexican restaurants in the area, they serve cold salsa as opposed to warm hot sauce. The crispy chicken tacos are awesome, and the Avocado chalupas are incredible(basically a tostada)! There’s a nice little bakery offering a large variety of American and Mexican treats, too. And oddly enough, this little taqueria has amazing American breakfasts-try the pancakes and bacon-the cakes are huge and fluffy and the bacon is cooked just right. I haven’t found anything here that I don’t like, yet, and I hear the breakfast tacos are outstanding as well. They sell Mexican sodas in glass bottles or offer the typical soft drink options. This place is very much a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but it is clean despite the not-so-hot décor. It’s the kind of place you enjoy with your family and friends, but would be embarrassed to take your boss out to lunch at, if that makes sense… anyway, it’s definitely worth the trip, and is conveniently located next to Jake’s Chinese on 6th Street. Give this place a shot, you won’t regret it!

Despite the relative paucity of great restaurants in the Temple-Belton Microplex, there exists a plethora of good options when it comes to no-frills Mexican food. La Perla stands out among them for its bakery, producing superior homemade tortillas, desserts, and fresh chips which are orders of magnitude better than the competition. I have yet to have a menu item which is not very, very good, but foremost among them in my opinion are the tacos. The carnitas are the Truth, bordering on life-changing. Service, always spotty in the area, is always pleasant and friendly. Items may take some time to be prepared, but are well worth the wait. Highly recommended, both for locals and anyone road-tripping through on the way to Austin or Dallas, given its easy access from I-35. This is the real deal.
