Loved Spice Route’s delicious catered food and dinner buffet recently. Idly, vada, sambar, pongal, chole, naan, yellow dal, paneer makhani and rice kheer — all super! Definitely worth a shot and a top choice in the Bellevue/Redmond area. Clean premises and adequate parking.

Amazing food. Coming from New Jersey with awesome Indian food, I was looking for something good during my visit to Seattle/Bellevue area. The food there was awesome and service was great too. Highly recommend.

I am totally devastated yesterday knowing the fact that the gratuity that we add on doesn’t actually goes to the server but the owners only :(this is such a shame! On humanitarian and ethical grounds they are EVIL. I am not going to this restaurant again EVER!

I came here for lunch today and found the buffet to be pretty average. You have your standard potato bhaji, paneer curry, chicken curry, tandoori chicken, raita, daal, biryani, naan, etc. and not much other variation. No samosas, bhajis, etc. The curries themselves were very creamy but there was nothing special going on there. I will note a few different things they had that I haven’t seen at other places. First, they had a beet halwa. I will admit I was really skeptical(sweet beets?!) but I actually thought it was pretty good. Second, they had an ice cream bar off to the side. Now the ice cream will cost you extra but I decided to give it a go because some of the flavors were rather interesting. I tried the mango kulfi and the pistachio coffee(definitely thought there was a comma missing the first time I saw it). I wasn’t impressed with the mango kulfi at all(not a strong mango flavor), but the pistachio coffee was alright — much more of a pistachio flavor than a coffee flavor though. I probably would not come back here. $ 15(with tip, without ice cream) is rather steep for a weekday lunch Indian buffet(I can find cheaper places even in Boston), and the food didn’t wow me. I’m sure there are better places around.

I love this place. I can only speak for the lunch buffet(as I have not yet tried dinner or anything to-go yet) but I enjoy the fact that they have mostly South Indian options but still a few North Indian options as well. Spice Route’s chai is great. Tastes just like it does in India. Not so impressed with the Dosa during lunch… I prefer Dakshin in Kirkland for that. They do pre-add the tip to your bill so keep an eye out for that if you’d like to reduce it or eliminate it. Service can be so-so at times especially if not a lot of people have arrived to eat yet, but I personally don’t mind. If it’s excessively slow service then I just remove the tip for that meal. No big deal really. However, the staff is lovely so if you need something just ask and they seem to be happy to assist. I typically eat here twice a week — once for the weekday buffet and once for the weekend buffet(the weekend buffet has a few extra options). I plan to keep coming back as long as they’re open and as long as the food still tastes good. 5 stars from me but check it out for yourself and see what you think.

Spice route has deteriorated pretty steeply. The food quality is mediocre now and what’s irritating more is the staff’s increasing arrogance. The food is below average and with less variety. Vegeterian options are lesser now. Recently I went there with my kid aged 2. The staff charged me for my 2 year old kid as well. I don’t mind paying for food we eat but below 3 years kids hardly eat anything.

I was there recently with my 10 year old for buffet lunch. The food is fine but I do want to warn about the service. The host used Square to ring the bill and charged 15% tips without telling me. A friend of mine mentioned she had the same experience and was furious. ITS A SCAM. BEWARE!!!

My favourite south Indian restaurant. Definitely my to go place when i am craving South Indian food. Their chicken 65, parota kurma, sambar idlis, chettinad chicken, chicken pepper fry are excellent. I have no complains about their food and service when dining but most of the times, they forget some items in their to-go orders. Hope they will be more cautious in taking care of their to-go orders.

Food and service is good. My favourite is Malabar porotta. Dosa is also good but I dont like the chutneys they serve along with it; they are just tasteless. Overall this restaurant is better than most of the indian restaurants in bellevue. What I dont like is the new payment system they have adopted, using ipad. The minimum tip option is 15%(or no tip). This is unfair. You should not enforce a minimum tip. There should be a custom tip option.

The lunch buffet filled with a great vegetarian section, with great meats as well is awesome! If you dig the butter chicken, spicy daal this could be the buffet that will fill you up… and then you keep eating and eating and eating until you are so stuffed you don’t want to eat for days… but man it tastes good. They also have a good variety of things I know and love and new things to try. come on… you know you want to have some great food in a buffet. OH just be warned… it fills up for lunch cuz, yeah its that good. Wait… why only 4 stars if I love it so much. This is because they put so little meat in the meat sections you really have to dig around to get it… it’s there and there is enough but it’s not super meaty…

I like to go to this place only on my cheat days. The buffet is great and worth the value. The first time I went there with friends it was horrible but once out of no choice I had to go with my husband and I liked it from then. The staff is friendly n quick. The food taste isn’t the same every time. Sometimes it’s awesome and sometimes it’s average. So keeps your fingers crossed :) that’s why removed one star.

My first to go place if I’m craving for some good Indian food(both north Indian and south Indian). Service is really good and the portions are sumptuous. Serves one of the best Idlis in Seattle. Their sambar and chutneys are not to be missed. Also do try out their lunch buffets in the weekend. I think they should work on consistency, sometimes the dishes are not up to their usual standards but that is ok I guess.

Ordered same entrees for takeout few times from Spiceroute now. The flavor is really inconsistent. They have messed up order couple of times. Ordered butter naan but got burnt plain naan. Ordered Chicken tikka masala and got Butter chicken instead.

Spice Route is a great Indian restaurant in Bellevue. It is not my favorite, but it is one of the best I have been to. I ordered the butter chicken with some naan. I used the Unilocal coupon for a free Chai tee as well. The Chai tea was not that great, but I can’t complain because it was free. The food portions here were fantastic, we got plenty of naan and were very full after eating our meals. We had to get take-out boxes at the end because we could not finish it all. The naan and butter chicken tasted fantastic! A man working there who I believe might have been the owner also gave us a sample to try of another dish, that was some sort of appetizer that tasted like a coleslaw. It was very good and a kind gesture for someone to make at a restaurant, especially for someone like me that has not had a huge variety of Indian food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting good Indian food. I’m sure I will be back here.

Incredibly simple, the buffet is a good price with a bunch of variety. Everything is clean, not to crazy. The best of the Indian restaurants in the little mall. Definitely recommend as a lunch stop.

OHTHEHUNGERPAINS I HADBEFOREEATINGHERE!!! Indian food isn’t the first thing that comes to my mind when the«hungerrrr painssss» hit but boy how that has 180’d! Place is big. Great for families. I came with 6 and one child. Wait staff great. The Indian food aroma, enticing. But anyways… GARLICNAAN??? Changed my life. Literally. Cooked on a tandoori(because everything cooked is on tandoori right?), garlic and that butter spread. Damn. Great portion for $ 3. And it went well with chicken tikki masala. Medium hot. With the basmati rice? Hunger pains gone. Will come again for lunch buffet in the future. All in all, great food for dinner with the family… Need to try the desert next time

Loved the food. Staff is really nice. It’s a bit frayed around the edges. Great strip mall find next to the place I thought I was going to but didn’t. Excellent vegetarian and gluten free options are a huge bonus.

I came here for a vegan cooking class that I discovered online. This was my first visit to this location and my first experience with learning about indian cooking. I plan to go back and take advantage of the buffet the next time I am in the area and look forward to the opportunity to take more classes here. The food was really tasty and the owner was super nice. I really appreciated the time he took to answer our questions about Indian food and to walk us through the vegan options on the menu. I am also thankful that in the future vegan options will be marked on the menu. It was also really interesting to be able to look at and learn about the different spices used in the food. I had dosa for the first time and tried the indian pickle. I also learned that this restaurant is South Indian while most in the area are North Indian. Apparently naan is not something that South Indians eat regularly and seems that it is often made with eggs, I had no idea. We also were able to watch while he demonstrated the cooking techniques for both aloo gobi and daal dish, both of these look simple enough to try at home.

Their all-you-can-eat buffet is delicious! Every time I dine here I’m impressed with the two full-length rows of food options. Lots of vegetarian, vegan options as well as meat dishes. Delicious flavors. It’s Southern Indian so if you want more mild flavors go on the weekdays and the weekends tend to run more spicy! My hungry teenagers beg to come frequently.

Ate here this Sunday with a friend, it was just a little to greasy for my liking. Nothing stood out. Just the same that you see at any typical indian buffet. Heavy use of potatoes, carrots, peas, breads and starches. mostly all potatoes and rice, not to many vegrtables and the few vegetable items were all over cooked. $ 15 for the buffet. Way over priced for what is offered. I must say all of the employees were very kind and friendly, and restaurant was very clean.

I persuaded my DH to take me here about a year ago, for their lunch buffet. Compared to Mayuri’s lunch buffet, and so far, that has been our benchmark, it was somewhat underwhelming both in flavor subtlety and in variety of choices. If the Butter Chicken doesn’t send me, the restaurant will suffer comparison to Mayuri, who, so far, makes the tastiest butter chicken I’ve tried in Seattle. Of course, we love sampling all the other things at Mayuri’s too, but at Spice Route, nothing else we tasted was as delicious as it could have been, hence the two star rating.

I have had a craving for Indian food for a while and what better way to eat as much as my belly can handle than at a buffet. I wanted to try someplace different and decided on Spice Route. When we arrived for the lunch buffet which cost about $ 11.99 per person during the weekday, there was a fairly decent line formed inside and outside of the restaurant and I thought ok, maybe it’s good. After we put our name down, we were called to sit down in less than 5 minutes. They gave us a pitcher of water at our table so we didn’t have to ask for refills. On a smaller separate buffet table was tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chicken curry, lamb curry and chicken biryani. The lamb had good flavor and it was tender. There was another longer buffet table with the naan, dosa, rice, paneer tikka masala, salad, chutneys, veggie and mushroom curries, samosas, and dessert yogurt and these sweet ball things. The yogurt was good not too sweet and it was creamy and smooth. Our plates were cleared as soon as we put them to the side. We received more napkins without asking. The bathroom was pretty clean too and they had toilet seat covers. Lol weird that I notice that, but many places don’t provide them. Overall, the food was decent. It definitely fulfilled my craving. Most of the food was pretty rich and I was so stuffed afterwards, my belly was heavy and I could barely walk and needed a nap.

We went impromptu to this place on a Saturday evening to have Indian food for a change. Being an Indian myself and who enjoys any kind of food and flavour, I must say the food was no where close to home…:( First place I saw where they served dosa and vada without sambhar(lentils soup), even if it is kids’ meal. For a $ 10 platter my kid got, tiny vada, dosa(not yummy), coconut chutney(tasted stale) and tomato sauce and ice-cream. We had to pay $ 2 extra for that bowl of sambhar as the vada and dosa were too dry for him to eat. We ordered vegetable biryani and tandoori chicken. Let us not call it vegetable biryani, it was just vegetable rice with not much flavour and the chicken was just coated with some orange stuff, none of the flavours had seeped in the chicken so it all tasted so bland. The vegetables on the chicken lacked any flavour too. The charges were too high compared to other good Indian restaurants and surely not recommending or visiting the place again.

Saturday Buffet review Wow, yuck. So start with a buffet that is woefully lacking in meat options and then make everything in the buffet cold and you have a really disappointing experience. We were there 20 minutes after they opened and the Naan, Biriyani and Tandoori were all cold… the white rice had dried out and the goat curry was tepidly warm. For a place that does buffet 7 days a week and that is only open for it for 3 hours on the weekend you would think they would know how to do it right, you’d think wrong. Beyond that the food was very bland. My favorite dish ended up being the Sambosa. The goat was very tender and that is awesome but the gravy was just bleh. If this is the best Indian buffet on the east side… my soul saddens

Warning: If you get your money’s worth at the lunch buffet, beware of the massive food coma that will hit you post-meal. I ate here, became happily and extremely full, and spent the rest of my Sunday afternoon napping away. But maybe that’s just me! \\ FOOD/DRINK QUALITY: I can’t speak for the authenticity of the place, but a lot of Indian families were here when we came, which is a good sign to me. You literally shovel as much food onto your plate as you like. There are a million different dishes that are constantly refilled, so I loaded up on naan, rice, and piled chicken tikka masala and other delicious, savory foods that I unfortunately don’t know the names of. I can assure you, it was all thick and heavy and rich and amazing. I do wish there were a few light dishes, though, just to cleanse the palate and keep from feeling overwhelmed. I spent the last few minutes before leaving eating tons of orange slices just to refresh myself. I honestly was super full after one huge plate, which didn’t really feel like I got my money’s worth, but it was only ~$ 14 for a lunch buffet, which is pretty bomb. \\ SERVICE: They seated us relatively quickly considering the lunch rush and the tons of people waiting. I wish the waiters had more time to check on clearing up our dishes and refilling our water(!) because I was dying of thirst, and with a group of 5+, your water pitchers disappear quick. Other than that, it was sufficient. \\ ENVIRONMENT: If you’ve ever been in an Indian restaurant, it’s about what you’d expect. It’s good for groups, but it’s very noisy and crowded during the lunch rush, especially on the weekend.

For the price $ 14 per buffet, not worth at all. Tandoori was extremely bad, and there wasn’t enough variety you would typically expect in a buffet. Ambience is bad to say the least. A corner of the restaurant is with open gravel and is about 5ft from our table. Vada is good.

I love this place. I eat here whenever I am in the Seattle area and it is always worth the trip. Excellent selection of vegetarian dishes, including their superb dosas. The Dahi Vada and Sambar Vada are excellent starters and I always order the Saag Paneer. The meat dishes I have tried are also delicious and well prepared. I am familiar with Indian cuisine and eat it often. Spice Route is the best Indian restaurant that I have found yet in Seattle.

Amazing Indian restaurant! I heard that this place is the«whole food» of the restaurant industry and I took my family there for a weekend dinner. We had different kinds of lamb carries, butter chicken, and tandoori chicken and lamb with garlic and cheese naan. Overall, they were really good and I was able to tell how the ingredients they use is different than many other restaurant as I didn’t feel the thirstiness after eating and had«easy start» of the next day morning. lol. Anyways, I found my «go to» place for Indian food in Bellevue area.

Safe choice for Indian food on the Eastside. I’ve only gone for dinner, so can’t comment on the buffett. Recommend the dosas, which come out nice and crispy, although a few times the filling was lacking; the«standard» indian dishes(like tikka masala chicken, naan, paneer, aloo gobi) are also decent. Their mango lassi is worth ordering as well.

Went for dinner and can say that this is, at best, very average Indian food. The Veg Korma was undercooked, tasteless, and watery… the exact opposite of what it should be. Butter Chicken was adequate, but not anything that I would make a trip for. Other meat dishes were sinewy with sauce seemingly designed to mask, not enhance, the flavor. Naan may have been made offsite and frozen. Far overcharged for the quality of the meal. Perhaps the buffet is better, but I don’t plan to return.
