No se el resto de la comida pero las sopa de res estuvo horrible, una de las peores que he probado, muy salada y la carne estaba másosa, no sabía a carne, las tortillas estaban quemadas y se tardaron. La horchata estaba buena y el servicio igual.

My husband is from El Salvador. This is the only restaurant where he will regularly purchase pupusas, yuca frita, and other authentic food from his country. I admit that I don’t even know everything they have on the menu, but I see the smile on his face when he eats their food, and that makes me happy!

The food is really great and amazing but what makes me give them three stars is there horrible waitress she is so slow and rude she is never smiling. She always has a mean look on her face. Overall the food is great and if you don’t mind the slow service you should go try it out.

My favorite local Salvadoran spot. Very authentic and tasty. I’ve tried their pupusas, horchata, yuca con chicharon and their empanadas de platano. Must try!

I have been waiting for 35 min for 4 pupusas to go, people have come and gone and nothing. Wtf? Shitty service and this is my first time here. The lady who took my order wont even acknowledge me to say my order is coming soon

I ask for chicken soup and waited about 40 minutes… It appeared to taste as good as it look but it was a bit salty. I expected to be serve with rice on the side as this is the way most restaurants serve it, I asked the waitress and she said it doesn’t come with it. I do not recommend this plate.

I’ve visited this place twice. I am a huge pupusa lover and love to try new places. I went here with a friend who highly recommended it. First experience: I got there early and waited about 20 minutes for my friend and the server that day did not check in on me until about 10 minutes in. It was not busy in the place only 1 other person was there with me. I ordered an appetizer, drink, and food, including something for my friend. I waited another 10 minutes for my friend to arrive. She ordered one other thing as soon as she walked in. We did not receive our food until close to 30 minutes later. Not even our appetizer. They also got her order wrong twice, and blamed her for it. The server seemed to pay little attention to us and more attention to the other person who happened to be male. I was a bit dissappointed by the service but liked the food so I decided I would give them a second chance. Second experience: This second time I decided, «Okay let’s try this again!» Since I love supporting local joints. My friends(including the one that had gone the first time) and I decided to meet here for dinner. I kept a positive attitude and we did not mention to the others our bad experience there from last time. There was a different server who seemed like she might possibly be the owner. We all ordered appetizers, food, and drinks. Two of my friends ordered a drink, tried it, and decided they did not like it. They attempted 3 times to wave down the lady, and she seemed to keep ignoring them and tend to the males in the restaurant. Finally came to our table, and they asked if they could change it(Why would you drink something you didn’t like?) and even mentioned they would not mind paying. The lady looked very upset and even rolled her eyes! YES, I said it *ROLLED* her eyes. I’ve never seen horrible service as that. We were all quite thrown off by it, finished our food, I cleaned our table and left. Good food that is unfortunately undershined due to the horrible service. I hope to return and see a huge difference. But not anytime soon.

One word: RUDE! The waitress seemed annoyed by my group and I. I asked to change the type of drink I had, since I didn’t like the one I had asked for, and she rolled her eyes! There is absolutely no need for that type of behavior in this or any type of establishment. I’ll take my business elsewhere. The food was good, but, not good enough to go back!

This was my pupusas spot for a cool while, about 5 years ago. I stopped coming here because I found cheaper pupusas somewhere else. So about Comalapa, the place is nice. They recently remodeled the seats and now have booths as well as chairs. They have a lot of nice décor around the restaurant. They also have an old man singing music live to attract customers. However, the service is bad. I don’t like the new server lady, she ignores the women customers to attend the men. The food takes forever to be served and she only checks up once. It took about 45 mins to get my 2 pupusas and a steak plate. I mean, the food is great. Horchata and chocolate are amazing. But, you can find BETTER pupusas somewhere else, with BETTER service. Some other man was waiting for a «to/go» order and got mad cause they took about 40 mins for his order as well. When the cashier dude gave him his order the man left angry saying«chinga tu madre hijo de puta» lol he was so mad. Everyone was mad. Bad waitress!!! I like the original waitress. I won’t be coming back.

I’m Salvadorean and therefore picky about my pupusas. The ones I had at Comalapa where as good as the ones I’ve had in El Salvador! Service was great. The owner was sweet and attentive despite being busy. I’ll definitely be back.

When it comes to pupusas they are great! As for the main dishes, they’re not as fresh or good quality, I guess it depends on the day or hour u go. The service is bad! Waitresses always have an attitude no matter how friendly YOU try to be, but the owner is a lot nicer. If you can ignore that, go for it! Watch out that they don’t over price you! It has happened to me a couple of times… I could say a lot more since I’ve been coming here for more than 5 yrs but I’ll leave it at that :)

I must say, I was quite surprised! This place will be my number one choice to go to for Pupusas from now on, shall I find myself in the Downey area or its surroundings. Very clean and traditional, you will find it welcoming, if you ever been at a typical Salvadoran Restaurant. Lots of «ornaments and décor» hanged from the walls, loud music playing in the background with colorful walls, and of course… Don’t forget their national flag hanged from the wall. Fluffy & Delicious Pupusas, fast service(To-go order) and very affordable prices are their highlights. Personal note: I need to try their other traditional dishes. I’m gonna go out in a limb here and recommend this place.

Being Salvi, I am very critical when it comes to going to Salvadorian restaurants. Especially if I order Pupusas cause I make my own at home so I tend to compare. Anyhow, this restaurant has some great pupusas! Big, stuffed, and delicious! I love the ones made with rice flour more as opposed to the traditional masa pupusas. It’s a small, but inviting restaurant located in a stripe mall near a laundry mat. They offers kareokee on the the weekends, in spanish. The workers are friendly and the restaurant is decorated with many tipical Salvadorian Airt and pictures of my country. If you like empanadas de platanos, theirs’ are pretty good except for the fact they only offer the cream filled ones, not the bean stuff empanadas. The prices of their food is pretty good compared to Mayra’s in Downey and you get more for your buck too!

Great pupusas… bad bad employee! First time I came here it was with my mom. Ever since Gloria’s in Bell Gardens closed we have been looking for a place to eat pupusas that is close to Downey and we decided to try Comalapa. We did not have to wait too long for our pupusas to go. It must be noted that you have to wait for good pupusas since they are supposed to be made fresh on the spot. This way you can know that they didn’t use a premade pupusa. When we got home we really enjoyed our pupusas revueltas. The place is colorful in a tacky way and has lots of plants. The service was good the first time around. Next time I went is probably the last. When my boyfriend and I entered a tall chubby teen looked at us with an «I don’t want to stay later than I need to» face and told us that they were about to close and that we would be the last customers! Wow! That is pretty bad! We just left! I do not care that the pupusas were really good. If you think about it a team is only as good as its players and his attitude must reflect the general overall attitude of the rest of the employees and owners. If he feels he can get away with that it is because he feels encouraged to do so directly or indirectly. Note to mom and pop restaurants… do not hire your kids by default and make sure you interview them!
