Food is good and service is nice. Not the best place in Beaverton but still very good. I got the pork miso ramen and it comes with pot stickers.

I love the fact that it’s right by the skate rink where we live ;) –Winterhawks Skating Center Nice to be able go there while my kids have hockey practice. I stopped by to have some sushi last night. Sushi rice was a little hard and the amount of imitation crabmeat on sushi was a little too much. I’d pay the same price for the sushi platter without the crabmeat sushi. The service was very good. Other sushi pieces were good. About a year ago, I tried their ramen. It would’ve been better with some veggies, like sauteed onions and bean sprouts. The spice used for the sliced pork was pretty strong…

Wow!!! This place is amazing!!! The best sushi in Portland so far! It’s cute inside and they have great service! The crab in the California special roll was superb!!! And caterpillar rolls are bomb!

Worst sushi I’ve had in Oregon. Ordered out for our drive to Eugene. The sushi was messy and like someone just started doing sushi for the dynamite, soupy crab mix for California roll(weird right?) and the fish tasted old in Oregon roll. Will not go back but appreciate them giving our money back.

Solid fresh sparkling fish, remarkable wasabi not ground and adulterated with powdered western horseradish, miso with deep smoky umami. Fish cutting was uneven on a few pieces of the Saba. Non description interior. This is an old style sushi place that focuses on the basics and does them very well. And though this probably won’t matter to most, this place has the best rice in Portland I have yet tried.

My second time attending this location and not by choice. The first time I went I ordered the yakisoba, which was made with ramen and shredded vegetables. Literally the worst yakisoba I have ever had. Today I went again with family since it was their choice and had the Sambi box, which was better, although their ingredients are not impressive: iceberg lettuce for the salad, tempura was not crispy, the California rolls had a taste of mayonnaise. The atmosphere is cluttered and they seem to have an organization problem. Prepackaged products are stacked high on visible cabinets without care.

A Japanese restaurant owned and operated by actual Japanese people!!! Family owned and operated. Seems to be a rarity in Oregon. This restaurant is definitely hidden from view of the main road and it is small. My husband and I went there for lunch one day to just try it out. Had it bookmarked in Unilocal for a while now, so it was about time we went there. We are always on a lookout for good sushi. We didn’t go crazy with our order since it was only lunch after all… we wash had our own lunch special and a couple of simple sushi rolls. I had the croquet with an ume cucumber roll, and my husband had the tonkatsu with a tekka maki. The specials come with yakisoba and fried gyoza… nothing special and just alright. The rest of the food was good! Nothing to complain about! The reason for the 4 stars is just because we need to try more of their food, especially the sushi. So when we go back I will definitely update my review.

I love eating here. The food always tastes fresh. The sushi is delicious and the ramen os unbelievably good. It’s a little hole in the wall and doesnt look like much but it far surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend eating here(just not on a hot day, as the building is really warm and no air conditioning).

This is a sushi restaurant in a strip mall and that is exactly how it felt, smelled and tasted. :(. The restaurant had an overwhelming smell of pine sol and other cleaners. I’m all for a clean restaurant but I don’t want to be smelling pine sol when I’m trying to enjoy raw fish. The salmon danburi bowl was way too much bland sushi rice too salmon ratio Especially for the $ 18 price tag. We ordered the rainbow roll and the spicy tuna roll. Both were ok but not great and left me feeling like it wasn’t that fresh. My husband said their Uni was great though. I will not be going here again. Our tab was $ 65 and it was a definitley not worth it it tasted cheap and not fresh. Maki sushi in Tigard was much better for the price!

Hidden gem, the Sambi salad is enough to keep me coming back again and again. I also aways gauge sushi restaurants by ordering spicy tuna hand roll and a real crab rainbow roll, both excellent at Sambi.

Sambi offers solid Japanese restaurant food; it wasn’t anything special, but it was good. I got the agedashi tofu and several temaki. The tofu was spot on and the waitress(probably owner) was very sweet. Based on the food, I would give 3 stars, but because the waitress was so nice I’ll give them 4.

My wife and I were really in the mood for sushi and found this place was very close to us and tried it out. The ambience was quite nice, with good music and temperature inside. There was quite a selection to choose from with soba, udon, tempura, ramen, etc… We had been craving sushi though, so we just loaded up on rolls and nigiri. We had the spicy tuna roll, tempura veggie roll, Oregon albacore roll, and soft shelled crab roll. All were really good, especially the soft shelled crab and the Oregon albacore. My wife got a bowl of miso soup which was really good as well and we shared a coke. Was pretty good price for it too. 19 sushi rolls, 2 maguro nigiri, the miso and a soda for only $ 29. TL;DR nice place, big selection, really good sushi, and not that expensive. Will definitely be going back.

I feel bad that this restaurant’s service is so bad to a point I had to come here to write a review!!! To start I have to say their food is pretty good, not cheap but good quality, especially like their eel nigiri and caterpillar roll, wudon noodle etc, even their miso soup is much better than any other Japanese restaurant. But, their service is terrible!!! First of all, they are super slow, takes long time to get a simple thing you ask for, two they certain has 0 training on customer orientation, I came in with my two boys today, first they ask me not to let them play the little plastic ball because it fell on ground and they said if someone step in it will fall, two she kept shhhing my son to ask him not to make sound, 3 in the end she came and ask me to keep voice down… Man, I was super mad!!! 0 respect for family comes with kids! I am very certain that was my last time there!

Japanese food that’s affordable and won’t break the bank? It must be crap right? I don’t think so. Simple rule, when you go into an ethnic restaurant and the place has many of that persuasion eating there, then it’s probably good. As soon as we walked in, we saw several Japanese families eating there. Good sign. One of the recent reviews was from a woman from Japan comparing this place to a place back home and how it reminded her of the restaurant she used to go to. That’s a pretty big compliment. We went for sushi, fried tofu and for me some ramen. We started off with the sushi. All reasonably priced. I got some striped bass(2 pc. $ 3.50) and my buddy got California roll and salmon skin roll. The wasabi was killer! I will admit, I hadn’t had wasabi that potent in a long time. Really good, cleared the nasal passages up super fast. My buddy and his daughter split a fried tofu dish and I got the Sambi Ramen($ 9.25) and it came with three gyoza and rice. The gyoza were nice and crispy and the rice was almost buttery in consistency and creamy in taste. As for the ramen? Good chunks of pork and veggies, nori and hard boiled egg. The broth was different from what I’ve had before but it was good. Very friendly staff and accommodating. I got out of there spending less that $ 15 with tip. Unheard of for a sushi place. But it happened and it’s worth going back soon. Enjoy.

I love sushi. I’ve never really gotten into the ramen craze. I LOVESAMBI. So unassuming, you can drive by it every day and not really notice it there. It’s small, it’s no-frills, but it’s good sushi. This is one of the few places now that has an actual Japanese man making the sushi behind the counter. It feels a lot more authentic than the popular conveyor belt places. This is the place I go when I want quality over quantity. I think the prices are fair for the quality of the sushi, their miso is great, and the service I’ve had is always very friendly.

I’m probably more versed in Japanese food and ramen than 99% of Unilocal reviewers as I have eaten at hundreds of ramen places in Japan and abroad, as well as having covered most of what’s considered top10 places in Tokyo. Sambi ramen that I had here is not Ramen. It’s Bullsh! t. It consisted of a bowl of «Ramen» in metal pot, instead of in a ceramic bowl, as if it was some sort of Nabeyaki Udon. It also came with a bowl of rice and 3 pieces of «gyoza», which was a pre-frozen store bought junk. There are some frozen gyozas by companies like Ajinomoto that are halfway edible, but this particular«gyoza» was the deep fried chinese kind that you can buy for rock bottom price in bulk and tasted just as horrid as it appeared. So this«Ramen»… my gosh where should I begin. It consisted of a «broth» that most likely was a diluted dashi concentrate with over cooked dried noodle. This«thing» was beyond bad as any self respecting Japanese person would not dare call it «Ramen». To add to the insult there was this dried, flaovorless«chasu» to make things more miserable. Let’s just say that an instant ramen with raw noodle that my 11 year-old made for lunch today tasted 10 times better and it cost me $ 1.59 at Uwajimaya. My experience with this«ramen» was so bad that it surpassed anger and it made me sad. Sad that the owners have to resort to this crap and charge money. Sad that people on Unilocal don’t see how bad it is. This is a lesson in how to make the most profit with the least amount of effort catering to people who don’t know any better. It is true that there is this«ramen boom» in cities like NYC, LA and Las Vegas where many authentic Ramen-ya’s are popping up. It is understandable why some Americans don’t understand what the big deal with ramen is… because they are subjected to bullsh! t like this; sad indeed. It reminds me of eating«sushi» at 95% of sushi places in the US where Chinese and Korean«sushi chefs» absolutely butcher the sushi culture. I’m saddened by dearth of authentic Japanese food in Portland having moved form Nevada and Cali. Come on Portland, you can do better.

Really great home style Japanese food. Super fresh and tasty. Meichiko(guessing on spelling.) is the server and is really friendly. She will speak with you in Japanese and is very gentle and gracious if your new to the language like I am. I normally get the Sambi Ramen, but sometimes I mix it up with a donburi. Either way you will go home happy and full.

I’m here today with my mother to spend time together. Store is clean and inviting with shamisen music playing in the background. No matter when we stop by, we have our friends drop by unexpectedly as it is popular spot for Japanese community. I ordered lunch special that came with 5 pc deep fried shrimp and six cucumber rolls, bowl of rice, pickled cucumber, shiitake, deep fried tofu and poached egg simmer in soy sauce and sugar. I like how it changes a little depending on seasonal item, and I finished half and I became very full. Whenever I’m here I feel like I’m in Japan and feel as though I’m back in my home country. I bring my American friends here where udon, ramen, and buckwheat noodle is popular. Menu has clear description of food and photo’s so no matter where your from, you’ll enjoy the simple homely atmosphere :)
