The coffee here is quite good! Sometimes you need a little pick-me-up, especially when you are attending a very cool film festival. I had a soy latte and then a double espresso. The quality of the espresso is very good. It is a quirky little shop in a small hotel, which street parking and a parking lot. It is very convenient to Bay Street. My main quibble with this place is that I ordered, initially, a soy cappuccino, which I have ordered from both chain and independent cafes in the following cities: Boston, Portland, Seattle, about three Seattle suburbs, Chicago, Atlanta, two Atlanta suburbs, Kansas City, Asheville, Louisville, San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Palo Alto, Alameda, Denver… Okay, I can’t name all the cities because it would be too many. I was told by the barista at this place not that she couldn’t do it, but that«soy milk doesn’t foam.» I’m pretty sure I got a really inappropriate look on my face even though I tried to hold it in. I do know soy milk is harder to foam, but I also know lots of people do it. I suggest a little practice: Can You Froth Soy Milk? | eHow If you still can’t do it, then just say you yourself can’t. I will judge you less than if you said something that I know from experience is patently untrue.

Best place for a drip coffee in Beaufort, SC. SKIP your out of town go to Starbucks, which is a short drive away, because the coffee here is a real treat. You will also enjoy the up-to-date-magazines you can read while relaxing. It’s next to a library, so consider getting a book, and relaxing while having a great coffee and possibly one of their great snacks(thumbs up to the chocolate chip cookies and brownies — ask to reheat in the microwave for an extra treat). Minus 1 star for small size.

Stopped by for a quick latte, hot chocolate and biscotti. Our server was very friendly and made our drinks quickly. Will definitely return, although on the pricier side.

I’m new to the area and had been wanting to give this place a shot. First thing first, the young girl who was working was NOT friendly. I ordered an iced soy chai(my favorite) and I was very disappointed, it just didn’t taste like a chai! I don’t think I’ll be going back. The place itself was cute tho.

Tried to like it. Wanted to love it. Had been intending on trying it for months now. But was disappointed. The young lady behind the counter seemed flustered even though I was the only person at the counter and only about 3 other people in the café. It took her quite a while to even acknowledge my presence. Wasn’t a very great first impression. The iced coffee I ordered was a large hazelnut with skim milk. She poured some stale coffee(from the taste of it) into a cup, added ice and a squirt of hazelnut and told me to fill it up the rest of the way with the skim milk from the«serve yourself» counter. That was that. No thank you… come again. Well… sorry…I won’t be coming again.

Great coffee shop! I am in vacation and tried the white chocolate coffee with an apple cinnamon muffin the first day. Both were great. The second day I tried the Dublin divinity coffee and sunrise muffin… new favorites!!! My husband gets the iced americano with coffee ice cubes and it is delicious. The service is very good as well.

Great place. Quiet little room in the back did my stats homework here all Saturday because of an unfortunate power outrage at home. Staff was very friendly!

The good: Delicious iced lattes and mochas. Their baristas are smart enough not to pour the espresso into the empty plastic cup. They offer coffee ice cubes which is awesome. Delicious cinnamon rolls. The bad: The parking situation is weird. Little space at the counter so ordering is a bit chaotic if more than two people are in line. The verdict: we’ll keep coming back.

We ended up coming here every morning while on our trip to beaufort for our morning coffee. Though we were having our morning coffee kind of late(around 11ish) there were still a good assortment of pastries available to order and the service was still great. The first day I ordered a dirty chai latte(chai latte with a shot of espresso) and was lucky enough that they had soymilk. The latte was delicious. My bf had just coffee but for a good 5 min they forgot to give him a cup to pour. The second day I ordered just a plain chai latte with soymilk. They add honey to their chai blend to give it a natural sweetener but for me it was just a little too sweet as a morning drink. My bf was boring and just ordered anther coffee. We did get a very yummy chocolate chip espresso muffin which has the perfect balance of a crusty top and a soft pillowy sweet inside.

Excellent caramel steamer. Wonderful, small, cozy place playing Beatles in the background. Loved the intimate and still modern feel of the place. Good coffee, calming ambiance and local paper to browse.

Nice clean look. The lattes we had were not bad. We come from Chicago so coffee shops are a big deal and espresso is a big deal. The cups were pretty messy when they came back to us(espresso and milk all down the side). The latte was a little bitter but again not bad. Here’s where they excel, they bake all their pastries in house and make all the sandwiches too. We had the raspberry and white chocolate scone and it was awesome. If the coffee sucked(which it didn’t) the pastry made the visit delightful. All that in addition to welcoming staff… Four stars.

Great coffee and super friendly service. We walked here every morning from our hotel. The best part… they have ice cubes made from coffee for iced drinks!(It’s the little things in life!) I would chose them over Starbucks any time!

This delightful coffee shop was right next door to the City Loft hotel where we stayed on our recent visit to South Carolina. And lucky us, the hotel provides coupons good for free 16 ounce cups of coffee for each morning of your stay. My husband was a dear and trooped over every morning to get our coffee while I lolled in bed for a few extra moments. The coffee was always steaming hot,(just as I like it) and always delicious. There were a number of coffee flavors and styles from which to choose but for the most part I am a straight up non-flavored coffee gal, cream, no sugar. One day I popped into the shop myself to get a late afternoon iced coffee which gave me a chance to take a look around. Although small, this place has a lot to offer. And they open at 6:00AM which is good for early risers like us. There is a full coffee bar menu and an array of tea choices with both hot and cold options. There are fresh muffins, smoothies, a case with chilled white wines and a shelf of some reds, beer, newspapers, breakfast items like fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, egg and cheese sandwiches and lunch items like soups, salads, wraps and sandwiches. There is a lot packed into this small but very pleasant space. There is free Wi-Fi and a few tables and chairs in which to hang out although probably more than 6 people in here would feel tight. It’s best suited to get your items to go. It appears this shop is owned by the same people who run the City Loft hotel so there is an emphasis on sustainable practices just like the hotel, and when possible they utilize organic products. This coffee was the best I had in Beaufort.

Receiving friendly service is a rarity but if that’s not a big deal for you… their coffee is darn good. It’s a fairly simple process, they give you a cup and the coffee choices are in airpots. Even with the spotty service, I have always found their coffee to be the tastiest around.

Best coffee shop in Beaufort. The owner of what had been the best coffee shop in Beaufort — Firehouse– consulted on opening this business. Firehouse unfortunately has closed, but City Java does continue its legacy of great coffee and great flavors. It also offers a pretty substantial breakfast and lunch menu. Everything from granola and oatmeal to some great salads and sandwiches. Free Wi-Fi, good music and a lot of cool regulars.
