We’ve stayed at the Winfield Inn several times, and it has always been a wonderful experience. The Suites are especially nice, a great combination of nostalgic photos and posters on the wall combined with squeaky-clean housekeeping and real, caring, friendly staff. The view of Lake Superior from the deck is magnificent, and they make sure that there is an abundance of growing plants to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The Bayfield/Apostle Islands area is gorgeous, but even if you don’t leave the hotel at all, you’ll have a terrific vacation.

I planned a return to Bayfield & I love how they roll at WInfield Inn! When I called to reserve a room the Inn was fully pre-booked but instead of wishing me well they worked out a win/win alternative. They arranged for me to rent a cabin about 1.5 miles away for a night at a reasonable rate. I loved staying at the cabin(Brickyard Cottage #4) — it is much nicer than I expected. It is relatively new, very efficient, & located in a very low density subdivision of cabins which has frontage on Lake Superior(this cabin was about ¼ mile from lakefront) in a stunningly beautiful north woods setting! I look forward to returning to either the Inn(more convenient to town) or the cottage next year!

Like everything in this area now, the condos are overpriced. But it suited our needs, so we paid. Very clean, anything you could think of needing, it’s there. Main complaint was hearing every sound for the adjoining condos. Very loud.

This is a wonderful lodge/motel! Bayfield used to be a quiet town but it’s turned into the Wisconsin Dells of Upnorth, probably because of the draw of Madeline Island, the Apostle Islands National Seashore, and Big Top Chautauqua. While there are several lodging options in the area with a wide variety of prices and amenities, the Winfield Inn offers a number of amenities in one location. Right on Lake Superior, the Winfield Inn is just north of the touristy downtown area.(About a 3 – 4 block walk, remember, it’s downhill going to town so you’ll be walking uphill on the way back. I’ll drive it, thank you, although parking can be a challenge at peak times.) The Inn is built around a wonderful garden and all the hotel rooms feature a view of the bay. There are no elevators, so if you are assigned a second floor room, you’ll have to schlep your stuff up the stairs. The rooms are decorated in a country motif with flowery wallpaper, fru-fruey bedding, frilly window dressings and busy wall hangings. It’s very homey. There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room. The first floor rooms have a patio while the second floor rooms have balconies. The night I was there, the mosquitoes were the size of P-51’s and stung with the same efficiency. I elected to stay inside, except to take a few photos. I found the Winfield to be a bit on the pricey side, about twice the price quoted in some of the other reviews. You might want to call first and check before you make a reservation.

Surprised how quickly they replaced the blinds when I mentioned there was a small problem. They had some of the best prices in the area(though prices in the region seem far too high).

Pet-friendly and clean as a whistle! Gorgeous gardens and views of Lake Superior. Super friendy and very affordable. Just a few miles north of town.
