Dined for lunch and ordered salmon teriyaki lunch bento box. As soon as order was placed, I noticed a hair on dumpling. Waitress took the whole tray away and replaced dumplings. My son took a California roll from my tray and again, a hair in the roll! The manager came over and asked me what happened and assured me the kitchen wears hair nets and said it could be my hair. In disbelief that he accused that it was my hair was shocking. I will pass on kumo in future. Poor management! Paid the $ 47. Bill and with no apologies from staff.

Great place, good food. I gave it 4 stars ONLY because I hated how the staff stared at us while we ate. Other than that the hibachi was very good!

Food was good. Experience was awful. Music at Kumo included Christmas ballads(in April) and they were showing sports on non-HD TVs. Our bartender was rude. She stood in front of us the whole time we ate and small talked about nothing and shared her every thought out-loud so we couldn’t have a private conversation. The small talk ended when 6 kids at a table each ordered a drink with like 6 shots of liquor in each(it’s called a scorpion I think). The bartender questioned the waitress on their ages. she said 5 showed proof of age and one said she was ordering a double(thus 6). Bartender told us the waitress couldn’t tell a fake from a real ID and said they were all under aged, then proceeded to make all their drinks for the table. She kept saying it wouldn’t be her fault if they got in trouble for getting caught(that she’d throw the waitress under the bus on that one). You learn a lot when your bartender won’t shut up.

I really enjoyed what we ordered through grub hub. The delivery was estimated later than expected but we got it so speedy and it was fresh and delicious. The delivery guy was super sweet and we loved everything. The pizza was bomb but I do wish the crust was crispier but that may have been a delivery thing? But it would be great grilled, but I would still order it again. Love love love the sushi! Had one bite of jalapeño seeds in a yellowtail jalapeño roll but all in all love it all!

A friend and I ordered 2 rolls and the tuna pizza for delivery. The order arrived within 20 minutes and we were very happy with our order. The Alaska roll was great but the yellowtail jalapeño roll was hotter than expected. We still enjoyed the yellowtail roll but may opt for the yellowtail scallion one instead. We also got the tuna pizza that was very flavorful but the tortilla crust could have been crispier. Overall very happy with our late night order and can’t wait to visit the location!

Went there last night for a birthday celebration! Food was good, but we had a 6pm reservation for 11. @720 we just finished paying $ 400.00 and a couple of minutes I was approached by someone who looked like he was in charge. By the way the servers kept trying to take the plates felt we were being rushed! When the very rude guy came over to me & put his arms around me & said to me we have been there long enough. He has a table of 10 that been waiting. I told him to his hands off of me & he was very rude. I was disgusted so I had everyone get up & leave. When I got close to the door, the very rude man smiled @ me & said thank you! I told again & he was very rude! Don’t care how good the food is, witch I had better. I would never in my life go there again! I would give 0 stars if that was a option! Shame on u VERYRUDEMAN!!!

An extremely disappointing dining experience. I ordered tuna sushi @ $ 3 per piece. What they served was old, dry, and the color was not what you would expect. It tasted somewhat fishy. I should have sent it back. It does not say much for the management or the chefs of a restaurant that would put out such a poor quality product. I strongly recommend you not go to Kumo.

WOW!!! I can never say enough good things about this restaurant. My husband and I went last Thursday 7÷23÷15 it was very hot out side and the restaurant was the perfect temperature inside! That’s hard to maintain when it’s 90 degrees and humid outside. I make mention of this because I can not resist their miso soup and I was not dying of heat exhaustion while eating it! The servers are wonderful, they all help out you never have to wait for anything ever! The meal starts with hot moist scented towels not a strong sent more like an essential oil maybe lavender. I love that! They have such a large selection of everything from sushi to teriyaki to hibachi and more. Multiple Asian countries are represented. When you first look at the menu it seems like it’s just to BIG to be able to decide in a timely fashion but it is so organized and well laid out it makes it easy! I try something new every time I go my husband always gets the same thing. He gets the chicken teriyaki which is delicious. There was at least 4 full sized chicken breast and they were not skinny cheap ones either. I like to be adventurous! This visit I got a bento box. A bento box is like a school lunch tray separate compartments for every item. With the bento box you receive miso soup, salad with ginger dressing(best I ever had) to start. That’s when you chose two entrees from the list, i chose double beef negimaki which is fillet mignon sliced very thin and wrapped around scallions(in early spring you can get lucky and they put asparagus in the middle with scallions) there is many options to choose from too many to list here, In addition to the main protein you get a California roll(full size) white rice 6 little streamed shrimp dumplings and one other thing that is escaping me at the moment. After all that you think that’s it, they can’t give any more food, but they do! The bring you two pieces of the most fresh fruit you will ever have. It cleans the pallet and is the perfect ending to any meal! But wait! You can’t forget the best little box of gum balls ever! All that food amazing service and all for under $ 50 dollars!!! I don’t know how they can ever be beat, they are the best Japanese/sushi restaurant in 6 towns! Can’t wait to go back, maybe tonight! ;-)

I gotta say … I was disappointed a few nights ago when I visited. Ordered a kani salad(doused in crunch which is unnecessary), two rolls which were not memorable and slightly fishy tasting. I do remember one of them claimed it had lobster in the middle of it(maybe the bayshore roll) anyway, it had lobster with I think some watered down mayonnaise and it was busting out of the sides –GROSS. Also ordered a plate of fried rice with chicken, egg, and veggies. It was extremely oily ! And the chicken was overdone ! Truthfully, the chicken reminded me of the sweet and sour chicken pieces you get from the basic ass Chinese spot(yes, those nugget things). I don’t know if this place was having an off night but I don’t think I will be back… I’ve been a true aji53 goer for sometime now and they haven’t turned me off yet. Plus there are a million places trying to do exactly what Kumo is and are succeeding … Step your game up Kumo. Maybe promote a ladies night with drinks and app deals. The place is gorgeous it would be a shame for it to not make it in the competitive Babylon village.

Will not recommend this place. First of all, as soon we walked in, we walked to the bar and asked if we could sit at the table close by when we were rudely sent back to front desk by the bartender. Hostess was really nice but the menu that i received was covered in teriyaki sauce and was sticky. Ordered a teriyaki filet mignon medium done. Girlfriend ordered teriyaki chicken, which is really hard to mess up. Service was bad. After the food was delivered to the table we were not provided with utensils to cut the meat and had to ask and wait about 5 – 10 minutes for the waitress to walk by. Filet mignon looked like was cooked by an amateur who has no idea how to prepare a steak. It was cooked very well, way overcooked and dry. It was also covered in way too much teriyaki sauce. Did not try the sushi there but definitely will not go back.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon, only 2 other tables were there. There were 7, yes 7, waiters and waitresses just standing around. We felt rushed because of this, and they also kept hovering around tables. Way to many servers for 3 tables. Gyoza was good, the salad dressing wasn’t bad, miso soup was average, and sushi wasn’t bad. I got the Alaskan Roll and the Spicy Tuna. Spicy Tuna could’ve definitely used more spice. They also had a nice bar set up, but you couldn’t see any of the TVs if you weren’t seated in that area.

When Kumo first opened I thought to myself that it was a pretty bad business decision to open another sushi place within a two block radius from three other asian fusion /sushi places — however it seems to have found its niche. It looks like every other sushi place, aka a Manhattan club with dining tables and chairs. It feels a little cheaper, with«ok» service and a laminated tri-fold menu. They have a plethora of options across the entire menu — not all of which are good, but that’s OK because at least you can switch it up /experiment. The things that I’ve gotten and enjoyed have for the most part been good, not great. You can see the difference in the aesthetics of the food, and i’m not speaking to presentation. The color and texture(and in turn, taste) of the fish is just not first rate. I do want to emphasize it is good! I’ve just had better and i don’t mean that in a pretentious way. Still though the portions are sizable and the pricing is about right. All of that being said, i’d rate this place 3.5, perhaps 4 stars. Why didn’t I then you ask? Good question. It’s highly, highly inconsistent. To the point where you can order the same roll on different occasions and end up with completely different incarnations. I still don’t think they’ve figured out exactly what the crazy salmon or crazy tuna rolls are(despite the menu, you know, saying it), or what they are going to include in the sushi pizza from one time to the next. Sometimes this place will knock your socks off, and sometimes the spicy lobster salad in your kumo roll with overload with mayo and explode in a ball of liquid fat and rice the second you touch it with your chopsticks. If they could get their menu and quality control in order, this place would be four stars. As is though, you’re going to be rolling the dice, and I can’t really get behind a place like that.

big + for being clean! The food was great — the rolls and apps Décor was pretty nice and pricing was reasonable. Only thing to ding it a little for was the service was lil off and uneven, and kind of rushed us Also, I liked the menus — kind of diner style with photos of the food! rare for a sushi place, but not being that smart, reading menus can be a toss-up, so I prefer to point to a picture like my little nieces would. I will return, and would definitely recommend giving it a try!

Let me start off by saying I like this place. I enjoyed everything I ordered. But I find it odd that 3 high end sushi restaurants were allowed to open in Bay Shore, basically on top of one another. Seems inevitable that one or two will end in failure. But for now, they all seem to be doing well. My favorite item of the night was the Mitch Special, which oddly is almost an exact clone of the Kenny Special from Onsen in Oakdale. Everything we tried was really delicious and except for my drinks. I will probably stick with water on my next visit. High priced mix drinks should be made by the bartender. Not by the waitress that’s never made more then a handful in her life.

With a number of local options for Sushi in Bayshore, Kumo a newcomer to the scene holds it’s own with creative special rolls and a trendy décor. I have dined here a couple of times since its opened and I have to say I think it outshines many peoples favorite Aji and my old personal choice Mitsui. The staff is attentive and space is well appointed and above all the quality of the fish they use in their dishes is spectacular. Every piece of Tuna I have had there has been exceptional — melt in your mouth and even their non-sushi dishes like the shrimp Pad Thai and Hibachi options are fantastic. As a local place its certainly become my go-to for sushi and Asian fare. I’ve even ordered takeout from them and the sushi is just as good as if you were getting it at a table on location. Must Try!

Hm. Very good! I have to say that one of my favorite things about this restaurant is the menu. It is very well designed and the beautiful foodporn photos throughout the menu entice your appetite so whoever thought of this was very sneaky and smart. My new rule is that I have to go twice before I write a review. Both times the food was delicious and fresh tasting. The inside is very open and clean, décor is beautiful. Service is good however too much hovering where I feel like I am being watched. Not cool but whatever. The prices are good for the quality you recieve and I have had a pleasant dining experience each time that I went.
