Enjoy wine? Need an educational introduction to them? Or do you already know what appellation d’origine contrôle means and that Santé-Emilion comes from Bordeaux? Either way, you won’t go wrong here, at La Maison du Vin. This is obviously an effort to promote French wines but it is an effective one and done right. The wines offered for a few dollars per sampling run from whites to reds, sweet to dry and represent Alsace, Bordeaux, Loire, Rhôné, and others. If you enjoyed a sampling, you can purchase full bottles to bring back home with you. Their selections run from the simple to the more complex and are priced accordingly. A Santé-Emilion sample can run nine dollars but the advertised portion of three ounces is closer to five. I’m a wine drinker and discovered both a complex Gewurtztraminer and an equally wonderful St.-Emilion but will defer purchase till I’m back home in New York due to travel and luggage considerations. The French, however, did succeed in introducing me to two more of their incredible national treasures. Since its inception, the goal of Epcot was, I believe, to foster international relations through education and commerce. The more we sample and relate to the offerings of others, the easier, we hope, to be able to get along. In its own way, France is still doing that at Epcot.
