Just okay. Nothing special at all. Service isn’t bad but not great or special either. Kinda dirty and doesn’t smell fresh Won’t be going back

Food is amazing if you can get in. They won’t seat you and always are hanging problems with the kitchen. If you call ahead, they should seat you! There is a better way to handle a situation then just saying we can’t serve the people who are here now! I get that you are busy, but you can tell them that when they call. Acting like its my problem that your kitchen is busy is not an excuse for being rude or not seating us.

Ok today’s lunch was just slap yo mama good Louisiana style seafood! I have not been to Ralph and Kaccoos go YEARS so this was truly a delight. My sisters suggested we have lunch there for old times sake and I am so glad they did! We arrived and were seated immediately in the large dining room. Our server was not only Johnny on the spot with our drinks but also in sharing with us the specials of the day. We placed our order and the food arrived in under 15 minutes. This is great if you work in the area and would like a fast lunch without it being FAST food. I chose the Catfish Cocodrie for my lunch — it is two catfish filets, one fried, one broiled and loaded with crawfish etoufee between them. It came with braised potatoes and green beans. Oh MY was it good! The breaded catfish was light and not over cooked and the broiled was not slimy so that was great. The etoufee was a brown or dark roux etoufee and I usually specify this because some places make a more red roux and to me the two have a very dramatic rates difference. The brown roux is more runny and tends in most places to be more spicy. This one today’s had a kick to it but I did not feel it was heavy handed. The crawfish tails were small and there were not very many in the etoufee. That said it was a very nice size lunch portion and the catfish was left to be the star of he plate. My braised potatoes stole the show. I could have eaten an entire plate of just these braised red potatoes. They melted in my mouth and had the most wonderful buttery flavor. I truly longed for more. The green beans were too spicy! I do not know what all they used but they used way too much. Neither my sister or I could eat them. My other sister had the crawfish bisque and left most of it due to it being overly spicy. So warning to all who do not care for spice over the years they have become very spicy in their dishes! After that good lunch — which by the way was UNDER10 each– all I need is a pillow and a blankie and I would be set for a great nap!

Ralph and Kacoo’s is a wonderful place to eat. The seafood is scrumptious. I usually get the seafood platter and it is terrific. The stuffed crab is nice and spicy(but not too spicy). The fried oysters are awesome — really the best in town. The fired catfish are cut thin and the tartar sauce to go with them is great. The fired shrimp are humongous! You will get no complaints out of me!!!

Nothing to get excited about. The bread before the meal was great. Hush puppies were okay. Service was actually decent. Had the Pasta Alfredo By The Sea. It was … well; «meh» like the kids say. Not bad, but not great. Alfredo sauce was mediocre, crab was questionable, shrimp was good. This would probably be great place for a group family dinner. Everyone can find something to fill their gut, and none of it is so exotic as to weird out your irritating uncle.

I was not super excited to eat here due to the poor reviews but my husband had a work dinner and they were able to accommodate a crowd. Gift shop– when you first walk in you are hit with a giant stuffed tiger and gift shop. Kinda tacky, and yes I did buy something. They sat us at a table and we were instantly helped. The waitress was very pleasant. The hush puppies and bread were just as good as everyone says. I ordered fried eggplant over angel hair pasta. The portion was huge, enough for two meals. It was good. Nothing truly spectacular. My husband ordered the seafood platter. He said it was good but also nothing spectacular. Overall the experience was fine. Nothing bad or really good. I will not be rushing back to eat here, it was just ordinary.

Food was very mediocre, probably over priced. Hush puppies were not good and the bread was bad. Blackened red fish just tasted like pepper. Person next to me ordered a steak medium and it was beyond well done — no pink. I was here with a large group(20+) and they only had one server. There is a reason this place is reviewed poor: mediocre to bad food, bad service

Bad food, poor service, outrageous prices. Do not come here. I came here and ordered the Bayou Pasta. The sauce tasted like like craft Mac and Cheese sauce, the crab was bland, and the crawfish minuscule.

New runner waste cocktail sauce on clothing. Manager never came to ask if it was anything they could do until I asked for a discount. Then her comment was for what? Not a pretty sight for thought.

A lot of people are down on Baron Rouge’s big seafood restaurants but they continue to survive and remain open — this is one of 3 who are still around. I like all 3 and try to go a few times/year. We went tonight – our server was a delight, professional and polite. This location provides complimentary rolls and hush puppies and this evening they were fresh and delicious. We skipped the appetizer and entrees were an eggplant and shrimp over angel hair pasta –3eggplant patties and this was much too much for 1 to eat — great potion which will provide another meal the next day. The other entrée was the seafood platter — all fried. Stuffed crab, stuffed shrimp, fish, shrimp, and oysters — –all were good and filling. You also received a choice of either stuffed or mash potatoes or French fries or fresh veggies — some can finish this; others will have extras to bring home. Our party was stuffed so we did not make it to the dessert offerings however they will bring a tray and tempt you. Overall, I have always liked this place and this visit did not to change this like.

I’m not sure, or perhaps I cannot remember how this place has morphed into a tourist trap. My last visit was back in 1990: Yes its been in Baton Rouge for over 25 years, kiddies, and its doing something right. I had the CRAWFISHETOUFFEE, or the crawfish-flavored étouffée. I couldn’t find a mudbug, and the roux seemed much darker than normal. We also ordered the Green Fried Tomatoes appetizer. There were three of us and split two slices of tomato… Great attention to detail! I really wonder how much another tomato slice would have cost Ralph and Kacoo. This sliced fried catfish was exactly what I expected: Almost impossible to screw-up, and terrific. Came with slaw which was OK, nothing special.

Was staying in the hotel next door. Even though I’m allergic to seafood, I studied the menu prior to my visit. I was allowed a substitute on one of their seafood food platters. Upon entry, I was led by a waitress then forgotten. She thought a hostess had seated me but I was left standing in a hallway. After being seated, the waitress had to take my drink order twice. I had fried Gator, Coleslaw & fries. For dessert I had key lime pie that tasted so unlike lime it could have been cheese cake

I can’t tell you how the food is since I walked out after 15 minutes. Friendly waitress seated us. 15 minutes later we were walking out the door — no greeting from a waiter, no drinks, no bread, nothing. It wasn’t because they were busy, the restaurant was nearly empty. Waiters were sitting around just chatting it up like there was nothing to do — probably won’t be long before the doors shut on this establishment. SAD!

I would give it zero stars if I could. Worst food ever. The etoufee tasted like bad spaghetti sauce with a lot of flour in it. Go to parrains or chimes. Avoid this place like the plague.

All of our meals were good. I had the she crab bisque, which was very good, as well as the crabmeat Au gratin. One daughter had the bayou pasta, which she said was good. My other daughter had fried shrimp, which she loved. Service was very good.

Besides being a tourist restraunt no local eats at, my out of town friend insisted we eat here, now I can leave an honest review lol our food was terrible .over an hour wait and food was cold. waited 10 min for my water and maybe saw the waitress twice, I went to the bathroom to fill my own water glass. it’s all good though I took him to Sammys like a real local

Still love this place. Seafood gumbo recipe changed since last visit but the Cajun Cobb was a pretty good salad.

Service was great. Décor was dated. Food was really good and the prices were not as expensive as what I had expected. The popcorn crawfish tails appetizer plate was plentiful. Definitely worth a 2nd visit when I’m in town.

This was my first visit to any of the Ralph & Kacoo’s locations, even though there’s one within walking distance of my house. First impression of this location was, «Great, another kitschy, outdated, overly large restaurant with a gift shop. Cajun Cracker Barrel, here I am.» I was, however, pleasantly surprised by the food. I opted for the stuffed shrimp from the lunch menu. Not bad! The service was pretty good, as well. Am I rushing back for dinner? No, but you could do worse for lunch if you find yourself in the area.
