Good, not mind-blowing. Slightly over-priced for the area and smallish portions. That being said, I enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. I will be returning and won’t hesitate to recommend it to friends.

Chef Jamie has done a tremendous job creating a stand out BBQ menu. His menu caters to every different barbecue lovers taste. Me, as an Eastern NC native, I love his pulled pork with his«Carolina Red» sauce. It brings me back home. He has found a fan with me, and I hope they bring his brand nationwide. All barbecue fans deserve a great go to spot, and Smoke Modern BBQ surely is that.

Smokey describes the flavor for sure. It wasn’t my favorite BBQ ever but unique and delicious. I got the 2 meat combo with ribs and brisket and Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries for my sides. The brisket was cold and the ribs were more rubbery than fall off the bone, but very tasty. The smoke flavor does go well with the 5 different sauces. I sat at the bar and the service was friendly and very quick, my meal was there within 10 min of ordering. Probably closer to 5. As many others have said the portions are LARGE, my meal could’ve fed two.

Great smoke flavor in the pork, burnt end mac n cheese was good for me, but maybe because I’m ok with velveeta.

This place has great food! The first location of this small restaurant chain is good. I’ve loved it since it was the only location open. I live there chicken. It is really good. And the fries are good. I’m glad they have regular fries and sweet potato fries. Also they have a full bar with sports the usually showing multiple sports including football and hockey and more. And one waiter knows my name and remembers me because I live nearby and I’ve been there 10+ times.

I would have given this place 4 stars but the service was poor, at least with our waitress. I came on a Monday around 1pm and there weren’t many other customers but plenty of waiters were on hand. My colleague and I ordered iced teas and it took awhile to get the drinks. Once we got our food, we didn’t see or hear from our waitress. I finished my iced tea but the refill from our MIA waitress never came. She eventually came to take away my plate and asked if I wanted a refill(a little too late now) then she disappeared again. I had to ask another waitress for our bill and she must have passed the message along to our waitress. As we were waiting for our bill, we heard a waiter tell his table about the specials. My colleague and I weren’t even told the specials in the beginning. On to the food, it was good. I ordered the 2 meat combo with the ribs and sausage. They offer 4 different sauces on the table to jazz up your meal. The thick and sweet plus the smoky and spicy were a good mix. My colleague was a huge fan of the Mac and cheese. So if you don’t mind mediocre service, this place wouldn’t be too bad.

After waiting 51 minutes for an Ahi sandwich and a fried chicken salad, the ahi was very poor quality and the salad was missing 2 of the 6 ingredients. This isn’t the first time it’s been lackluster, but it will more than likely be our last. The bright spot is well made drinks, decent beer selection, and a professional and pleasant waitstaff. Too bad it doesn’t make up for the utter lack of effort in the kitchen.

Amazing Mac & cheese — brisket very tender — good beer selection — a hidden gem — good variety and vegetables are fresh

Drove in from Fruita looking for good Barbeque and so glad we did. Lots of great options on the menu. Yummy corn bread to start. Loved the Burnt ends Mac-n-cheese. Very tender brisket. Anna did a great job of tending to us. They mentioned we didn’t have to drive so far could have gone to their closer location in Glenwood Springs, but the cute shopping center where they are located includes a Whole Foods; probably the closest one to Grand Junction! Well worth the distance to get out of town and get fantastic food.

I’m on the edge between 3 star and 4 star here but any hesitancy I have with giving it 4 stars just means it probably isn’t a 4 star(odd how that works). Our group of 3 came here recently for dinner and we ordered a number of items. We got the bacon wrapped shrimp and the hot wings for our appetizers. Both were fine(and fine is not the operative word when it comes to bacon covered anything), but neither were standout. In fact, I’d probably not get the wings again as the smoke flavor was light and the sauce not my favorite. The hot links I had were decent and so was the moist/fatty brisket. I didn’t really care for any of the sauces but that could be a personal preference. The coleslaw is probably the best thing on the entire menu. One of my friends doesn’t even like coleslaw but admitted it was pretty good here(I however, love coleslaw and believe in the virtue of judging a restaurant purely based on their slaw). The creamed spinach was also very good. It’s not shredded or minced spinach, they have decent sized pieces of spinach soaking in a cheesey goo that goes down easy and would have most people coming back for seconds. All in all, I find Smoke to be a decent place but the appetizers and entrees we had weren’t stand out, but the sides were a class above.

I don’t eat BBQ food, or even meat, very often but mmmmmmmm… Smoke was delicious! They have several different sauces to use. I ordered the special of the day(ruben) and the meat melted in my mouth. Fries were delicious too!!! I would definitely go back if I’m ever in the Basalt area again! They don’t do seperate checks though so bring cash or treat your date :-)

Mediocre to bad barbeque. But when you are the only game in town, you get the business. Rude staff and managers, that scold and give the customer dirty looks. Not one or two people, it’s like they train their staff to be angry and condescending. Horrible people garbage food. Enjoy.

Unbelievers, be advised: there is a Heaven, and if Smoke is not that place, then I am certain that they at least cater for the Almighty. I was impressed by the variety of interesting starters, but, being concerned with gastric space, dove right in to the two-meat combo. I selected brisket and ribs, with a side of the famous macaroni and cheese, and it was perfect for a Texan missing his favorites. The brisket was smoky and moist, without being too fatty. The ribs were moist and meaty, and since I went with a wet style, the sauce really brought it all together. The Mac and cheese was one of the best I’ve ever had, made from scratch, with a nice balance of cheesy flavor. The Mac was served in a little crock, that kept it warm throughout the meal As a bonus, my wife got the Sonoran Taco Salad, and asked for grilled skirt steak. She shared a bite with me, and that’s the most flavorful skirt steak, ever. It’s worth a trip just to add that to your salad. The table was stocked with four sauces, Carolina, Georgia Gold, KC Royal, and Texas Fire. This reflects Smoke’s obvious love for barbecue’s roots across the country. My favorite, unsurprisingly, was Texas Fire. So, how do you top a fantastic barbecue dinner? How about a float with Boylan’s Black Cherry Soda for dessert? Best combination for a float you could ask for. Kristen provided great service, and the restaurant had the best, smoky aroma. I hope I’m lucky enough to enjoy this place, again!

Food was excellent. Service was awful(the second time)! This is the second time I have been to smoke in the past two weeks, and my first experience was amazing. We went again last night and the server could not have made our dining experience any worse. She was extremely short, not friendly in the slightest bit, and didn’t check on us once during the meal. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, but there is a good chance that someone’s experience in smoke last night was their first night ever, and they would be likely not to go again. So if you’re in the area and are looking for some great bbq, stop in at smoke… but if you get a short haired lady named Kathy, ask for a new table, or run!!!

LOVE the food. The variety of healthy and sweet, savory barbeque options is perfect. I’ve had almost everything on the menu and am still finding things that BLOW my mind. Must haves include: Bronzed Ahi Salad(healthier side) Smoked BBQ Wings(smoked chicken wings then flash fried but less guilty than traditional wings) If you eat Gluten — I hear the Burnt End Mac N Cheese is to die for. XXX Sauce — request it Val is an awesome bartender and lovely person and we always try to go in when she’s working. Brisket is very tender. GREAT selection of booze. Nice sized patio overlooking grassy park. Location kiddy corner from Whole Foods. I had to retract a 5-star rating recently for a myriad of weird experiences. The service has been less than extraordinary over the past few weeks. There seem to be some new servers who really stink. My husband had one meal sent back 4 times and another time a server threatened to charge me full price for a half ounce of wine I wanted in a soda water. All in all, seems to be getting uptight and a lot of weird mistakes. Hope they can turn it around!

Delicious and totally worth it. We went in a group of 5 and everyone loved their food. We shared corn muffins to start which were delicious. My husband and I shared a platter with short ribs and brisket. It was amazing and we loved trying the different BBQ sauces. Ironically, we had people at our table from the Carolinas, Kansas City, and Texas so we had all the sauce city represented. Everyone from those areas said the sauces really do represent their names. The baked beans were the best baked beans we have ever had. Others at our table had pulled pork and pulled chicken which they enjoyed. The only off item was the burnt ends mac and cheese. That was good, but not 5 stars. We ended with the banana pudding which was very good. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Wow, were we glad our friends introduced us to this gem! Cold, local microbrews all around: a great way to begin the meal. We sat outside, where the music wasn’t quite so loud(canned, not live.) Beautiful oversized flowerpots spilling onto the sidewalk. The food was incredible. My friend and I split the 3-meat combo, which was very reasonably priced. The ribs, pulled pork and brisket were all fall-apart tender, smoky and so good it’s impossible to choose a favorite! The slaw was hands down the best I’ve ever had. Crunchy, sweet, fresh, spicy, creamy, pungent. I think I would commit a felony for the recipe. Our husbands lost out by getting the macaroni & cheese, unfortunately. It was pretty ordinary, with thin sauce and ho-hum extras(grilled chicken, «burnt ends» of smoked pork.) The hamburger was also good, but not amazing. Stick to the entrees for which this place is aptly named!
