It is very nice inside with a lot of drink options. The sushi is very good. On Sunday’s you can go and get $ 3 off every roll and wok item. The ramen bowl is delicious.

Great place for family night out on a Tuesday! This restaurant has Toddlers’ Tuesday, which means upstairs you can enjoy a meal while your little ones play in a play pen with the other kids at the restaurant. Screaming is OK, because there are many other kids screaming. There are TVs to entertain your kids, if you don’t mind giving your kids some screen time. If they usually don’t get screen time, turn them away, or else they’ll be memorized. Everyone is friendly, just enjoying a rare night out. The food is decent. We ordered the sushi, that was the best of our dishes. It was the daily special, with lump crab, salmon and jalapeño. We also got the pad Thai with tofu which was decent and good enough to get again. The Hong Kong braised pork, which was a little on the sweet side, surprisingly does not come with rice. It should be a standard rice and meat dish. It comes with Kimchi, which makes for an interesting combination The Ramen is unique. It is not really Japanese noodle dish, but instead tastes more like a Chinese restaurant soup noodle, with a soft boiled egg, and Ramen style pork. It also comes with your standard for Vietnamese phở dipping sauces, siracha and hoisin sauce. Overall the food is decent, but if you’re looking for rambunctious place to dine with the little ones, there’s no better place. I wish there were more places like this in Baltimore. It reminds me of a McDonald’s with the playground, but at the next level. Perfect for a family with small kids. We will be back!

Best happy hour! Went on sunday and enjoyed beers, wine, apps, sushi and a wok bowl. Delicious food with lots of flavor. Two of us ate and drank our fill for $ 50. Service was spot on! We will be back

Best place to go for sushi in Baltimore just make sure you go during happy hour or it will be extremely over priced. Happy hour is $ 3 off sushi rolls and $ 5 wine 4−7pm Monday-Friday. My roommates and I shared the firecracker shrimp which was really good, but definitely spicy. I then got one California and one Philadelphia roll. Boy was I full once we finished! Definetly probably could have stuck to the appetizer and one roll. Will definitely be coming back with the roommates.

We were there on a Sunday. Service was a bit slow because there was only one waiter. Used my groupon to purchased food. It was straight forward and simple transaction. I purchased the groupon just so I can try the ramen which is what I ordered. I’ve had ramen at a couple of different places in DC so I was excited to come to this establishment. The presentation looked like any other ramen which is good. Both our ramen tasted bland and small amount of meat portion. They didn’t have the same attention to detail as Toki Underground with their food. I would not recommend this place for Ramen. I actually prefer Sakuramen’s ramen. Their ramen to me is more flavorful and they are generous with their meat. It also cost a lot less than Toki Underground.

While my husband and I love Shiso, and are very faithful customers(once a week) unfortunately I think we have to stop our tradition of Shiso Sundays. Don’t get me wrong-the wok items and sushi are GREAT and you should absolutely be eating here. But I guess everyone already knows that because we spent 2 hours waiting for our food a couple Sundays ago with no apology or recognition of a problem. We finally just asked to take our food to go whenever it was ready, which our waitress did-but with no explanation of what was going on. I don’t know if this was an exception or is the new norm(delivery wait time has been going up), but I was disappointed with how it was handled. Definitely go if it’s empty though!

We came here on a Friday evening and found the place to be cozy and friendly. Parking as always is a pain in Canton but nothing to do with the restaurant. Pros: –friendly service — good sushi –decent drink selection — good pork belly appetizer Cons: — ramen was horrible. Broth was bland and tasteless. — pork belly was small and for 12 dollars you expect more hearty portion — waitress was nice but didn’t Abe our orders correct. Two dishes were wrong.

Popular happy hour spot! Good deals, get a cocktail for $ 5 and $ 3 off sushi rolls, plus more. Cocktails are decent: Green Tea Palmer’s a little too strong on the honey and weak on the green tea flavor, but still delish considering the price. Love the more unique flavors of the sushi here but wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. People love this place though, every table was packed.

The cocktail was HORRIBLE!!! I ordered a green tea something cocktail, and it tasted like water!!! I was so disappointed!!! The sushi, rolls and ramen were just OK.

I’ve been here numerous times and it has become a go to for me and friends. It’s in Canton square so it’s plenty of other options but I always come here. Food and drinks are great. Especially Sunday all day happy hour. I like the sushi and the noodle bowl is a personal favorite. Staff is nice and helpful. Great place for an outing.

This will definitely be one of my new favorite places. When you go you HAVE to order the pork belly. It’s outstanding! The pad thai is also the best I’ve ever had. Drinks are okay. The tropical gummy bowl could have been a little stronger but good. Service was excellent. I only wish the tables were bigger so they could fit all our entrées and drinks.

4.5 stars My wife and I came here for dinner on a Friday night to get our sushi fix. Shiso Tavern is where we go for sushi in Baltimore city. We were here for their happy hour and ordered some drinks, nigiri, and rolls. Overall, the fish were decent and fresh. Service was friendly, but the wait for food was on the long side. Food: The Shiso mojito that my wife ordered was just average and tasted very artificial, but the food was good. We ordered the russian roulette roll, green dragon roll breathe fire(with Sriracha and jalapenos), hamachi, ikura, amaebi, and ancho chili rubbed tako nigiri. Rolls: The rolls were pretty good, although there weren’t many options for rolls without crab(my wife wasn’t feeling like crab tonight). The green dragon roll breathe fire was definitely on the spicy side. I was okay with the spice level(the hotter the better), but I think this is probably too spicy for most people. Russian roulette roll is always fun, but be warned the surprise spicy piece is no joke. My wife always gets the surprise spicy piece so she cheated this time and took a peek before each bite. Nigiri: We ordered 2 orders of the hamachi, and we received 2 different cuts of hamachi which was a nice surprise. Ikura were good but oddly/inconsistently shaped. The amaebi was a great find; the shrimp were plump and fresh. It was nice that they also served the heads fried, although it seemed like the heads were pre-fried as they were only mildly warm when served. The amaebi heads might be an acquired taste for most people(for example, my wife does not eat the amaebi eyes). The ancho chili rubbed tako were just average, I didn’t feel that there was anything special about it. Service: Our waitress was friendly. The food took a while to come out though, especially considering we only ordered sushi. One slight hiccup was when the bill came. We noticed that we didn’t get the happy hour price for the nigiri we ordered. This was fixed quickly by the manager. The next day, I also noticed that the ikura was priced at $ 4 on the menu but we were charged $ 5 on the receipt. Overall: We’ve been to Shiso Tavern before, and we definitely think it’s a good place to get decent sushi in Baltimore. There were some thing that could be improved: wait for food and price consistency. But that being said, Shiso Tavern’s happy hour is a great deal! I would have rounded up to 5 stars, but the above minor complaints kept me from doing so, and Shiso Tavern earns 4.5 stars(rounding down to 4 on Unilocal’s system).

Although the restaurant AND bar closes down by 11 p.m., it has one of the best cocktails in the Baltimore area– in my opinion. The Atlantic Fishbowl(it’s served in an actual fishbowl, minus the algae and fish) is a cocktail of blueberry and Thai chili pepper vodka and lemonade. I absolutely love it. Also, it’s crazy potent. Prepare yourself for a stumbling adventure afterwards. The food is pricey, but dependable and tasty. I typically go elsewhere for sushi and asian cuisine, so my main review is for the great service and drinks.

Can we go over the fact that their happy hour specials– which are great– go on all weekend long??? Sunday evening? Sure, have some happy hour specials. Love it! I came here a few weeks ago for a birthday party. There was a table for 10 set up upstairs for us which worked just fine, although I wonder if the other people in booths up there may have thought it a little loud as it’s not a big space. We started with dumplings and edamame, both very good. Dumplings are some of my favorite things and Shiso’s didn’t disappoint– probably better described as potstickers, though. I ordered the Lindsay Roll which is basically a California Roll with a nice slice of scorched scallop on top and eel sauce. Very good! and the scallop made it filling. I also had a bite of my roommate’s orange chicken which was delicious, and had such a vibrant flavor. We also passed around a large plate of peanut butter chocolate cake for the birthday girl. The chef made it specially for her, knowing she is allergic to all tree nuts but not peanuts. We had a fun banter with him about that which made for a great experience. Our knowledgeable waitress was also great. Next time I come back, I’d love to try out one of the fishbowl cocktails and also the calamari roll… which sounds delightfully fusion-esque.

I’ve passed by this place a million and one times — never really had an urge to go inside. From the outside, it seems very unassuming and honestly, not all that interesting to me – in general, I’m not a huge sushi fan. I bought a groupon with the intention of taking a date there, on the cheaper, because she liked sushi… what happened was she never materialized and the groupon was about to expire. So rather than just lose the groupon value, I treated myself to dinner. Let me say, that I was pleasantly impressed. Upon entering the dim rowhouse converted restaurant, I felt like this was an attractive, chic, fun place to eat and drink. They had specialty drinks and specials. The dining area was cozy without being cramped. The menu is familiar, nothing overwhelmingly exotic – you should know what you are ordering. Service was average. Menu pricing was reasonable for a nice sit down restaurant. The best part of my dining experience was the food. The food was good, no, it was great! I could really appreciate the effort the chef puts into the presentation – and the taste? The taste was exceptional and innovative. Light and fresh — not greasy, not heavy — yet filling. The sushi nachos were delicious, given that I dislike raw fish, that’s pretty good! The ramen bowl with the pork belly was tasty. But the winner of the night was the Kung Pao tofu. The tofu was almost fluffy and fried(or cooked – whatever is done to it!) to perfection and the flavor was spot on. Take a look at my pictures — everything had an extra pizzazz to the typical dish that you may expect. Shiso is great restaurant to go by yourself, or with a date or even a small bunch of friends who like Far East Asian cuisine. No hesitation on an easy recommendation.

Shiso has great Happy Hour Specials– $ 5 for specialty cocktails and $ 3 off Wok Bowls. We had the spicy shrimp appetizer which was very good. I tried the mango chicken wok bowl. It was good, I would have preferred it to have a bit more heat to offset the sweetness, but it was good. A HUGE portion for $ 9!

Overall, I think this place is a pretty good local sushi and asian food addition to Canton. I had a groupon, but if you go during happy hour, the specials($ 3 off all sushi and $ 9 Woks) are pretty great. Lindsey roll — a California roll with torched(yet cold) scallop on top with a dot of sriracha mayo. This scallop was delicious. It pretty much melted in your mouth. I would get this again and again and again. Spicy Crunch —($ 10) inside: crab stick, wasabi caviar, asian pear; outside: shrimp, spicy mayo, crunch. This combo with the asian pear is different, but very flavorful. Moo Goo Gai Pan —($ 12) chicken, white sauce, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, celery, onion, served with white rice… this comes in a white broth… it was flavorful, but at the same time, kinda bland. I wouldn’t get this again Singapore Noodles with chicken($ 14) rice stik noodles, spicy curry, sprouts, carrots, celery, scallion, fresno peppers, eggs. I’ve had this before, and thought it was good, but this time, it was defiantly missing something. It didn’t taste the same as the last time. This dish is on the spicy side, so if you don’t like spice, I’d get something else.

Too lazy to cook on a weekday, the boyfriend and I headed here for dinner. We started off with a shrimp appetizer, I don’t recall what it was called. It was good but a small portion size. For my meal I ordered the Green Dragon Roll and asked for them to make it spicier by adding jalepenos. The roll was pretty good, not too memorable. Maybe I’m spoiled by my fave spot closer to home? For dessert we split the banana spring rolls with ice cream. I was disappointed at how small this dessert was. I thought it would be at least two spring rolls, but it was just one cut in half. After an appetizer, entrée and dessert I was still hungry! The portion sizes were too small for me, so I left unimpressed. The food was good, not great, and not somewhere I would return to in a hurry. I rounded up a star mainly for the great customer service. It does seem like a good spot for happy hour though, so I may give it another try if I find myself in Canton again.

After hearing so many good things about Shiso we decided to head there for date night on a Saturday. I recommend making a reservation because there was a wait when we got there but thank goodness our table was ready and waiting! We started with a bowl of salted edamame which was steaming hot and absolutely delicious. They were the perfect starter. Our server reminded us that all food comes out of the kitchen when it’s done, there’s no waiting for everyone in your group to get their plate. Our sushi rolls came out first with our rice and pad Thai arriving only a few minutes later. I had the vegetable roll and vegetable fried rice. Both were absolutely delicious!

Some friends and I were out in Canton and really craving pad thai, I had been to Shiso Tavern on the Canton square before and I know they have excellent sushi as well as other Asian delicacies(such as pad thai) so I suggested we head over there. We started our meal with an order of the Vegetable Spring Rolls. We were served four spring rolls with dipping sauce. The spring rolls were good and a great way to start off a meal, but nothing particularly special. We also decided to share an order of the Sushi Nachos. The sushi nachos were sliced tuna tataki, avocado, spicy salmon, micro cilantro on a crispy wonton wrapper. These were delicious, the fish was fresh and all the ingredients combined together nicely to create a unique dish. One of my friends ordered the Chicken Fried Rice. The chicken was tender and the dish was packed with a lot of veggies giving it a lot of flavor. My friend really enjoyed this dish and fortunately it was large enough to allow her to have leftovers for the following day. The real reason I wanted to go to Shiso Tavern was for the pad thai. So, I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, with extra heat and I was not disappointed. The chefs threw in some extra spicy peppers that really elevated this dish for me, the flavors were complex with tender hunks of chicken, veggies and a nice spice that I crave. If you’re looking for some great sushi or a pad thai fix in Canton, Shiso Tavern will certainly not disappoint.
