Dogma for Pets

Great customer service. I had a very nice discussion with the owner, and could really tell they are animal lovers… Love it!

I have been to Dogma many times for my dog. First of all, their groomer is amazing. My dog does not like getting her nails trimmed and she will do anything to get away from a groomer. The groomer is patient, encouraging and most importantly get her job done. I have been to other stores which are cheaper and the service was not the same. Another feature I really like is their self-​serve bath stations. You can take your dog and pay $ 15 to use their shower, blow dryer and clean towels. It is always clean and well designed to make the whole process very easy. Very friendly, local store so go check it out!

This store is incredibly overpriced. The same collar is priced for $ 5.00 less at a boutique dog shop in DuPont Circle. I don’t mind paying for quality, but this store is simply taking advantage of people.
The store, however, does have a nice selection, and I was willing to shop here until today. I tried to purchase a dog bone for $ 3.50 with a debit card. The woman behind the counter refused to sell me the bone and insisted that there was a $ 5.00 card minimum. I’ve heard of $ 5.00 credit card minimums at some pizza shops and dry cleaners but never at a store with these prices. I’ve also never run into a debit card minimum at any store. This policy simply demonstrates poor customer service. The store is literally losing sales over a penny and future sales of higher priced items from annoyed customers.
The staff handled the situation very poorly. Instead of letting me know of the policy for my future purchases from the store and allowing me to purchase the bone in this instance, the staff suggested I purchase more items or not buy anything. I immediately left the store and won’t be returning.

Convenient location for those that live in the Canton/​Boston Street location, but severely overpriced.
I cannot speak to the grooming services, but will say they look clean and the dogs come out looking sharp.

Cute little shop, well organized, friendly staff, and I guess you would hope for such attributes in a pet store, but it is very pet friendly.
There is always a little bowl of water outside for dogs on hot days, treats behind the counter, they usually give me some kind of sample treat for my dog when I check out… nice touches. They also have a Yappy Hour (have not been, but owners bring their dogs and mingle).
For toys, unless you want organic or something, Target or Wal-​Mart will be cheaper…
but they have EVERYTHING you could want for your dog with a friendly staff member to guide you to the best choice so I still shop there occasionally.

Always have a great experience whenever we go to get dog food. Everyone is educated about the products and are always willing to help or make suggestions. A bit pricey… however. …we live in canton. …what do you expect. …the price matches the area.

Terrible terrible terrible. Worst haircut ever for my Yorkie. Cut him like a schnauzer! Asked for a slight trim and she gave him a Buzz Cut! Like a #1 buzz cut– it’s rediculous! And it was uneven! NEVER EVER GOING BACK… EVER

I’m torn about this place. The selection is pretty awesome, but the prices are totally insane. I buy dog food here on a regular basis, and I’m supposed to get a discount for frequent buyer there, but every single time I do, they say they can’t find me in their system, so no discount, so then I fight with them until 10 min later they magically find me in their system and give me the discount. Every single time, I think 12 times now. But they do carry high quality products and they are usually very nice.
I also use the dog wash stations all the time, regularly, and they are really cool. The soap I buy there is crazy expensive. Plus it’s $ 15 every time you use the wash station. crazy crazy prices.
Frankly, there’s no other places convenient for me to go to in the canton area. If someone opened a cheaper place to wash dogs, etc. I’d go there instead.

Nice store and cute things for your dog but its too expensive. They can charge more than twice.

While Dogma can be expensive, it’s pretty much the only place that I buy food for my dog and cat. They have a fantastic selection of grain-​free and healthy foods and the staff is knowledgeable about what food is best for which pet. They also have great organic treats, environmentally-​friendly shampoos, and tons of pet clothes and toys. My dog is especially fond of the bully stick and bone selection! It’s also great that Dogma is so close to the Canton Dog Park. Overall, love the store and really love the staff.

I took my Havanese to Kelly for short trim. She did an excellent job! I’m picky about my groomers and I feel like she really listened and did what I asked for. I’m actually glad that she didn’t include the bandanna… not a big fan of those. All I care about is that my little boy looked and smelled great! Other stuff is pricey but they are specialty products that would be pricey anywhere you go.

This place has more dog food, treats, and accessories than you could imagine. If you are looking to pamper your dog and don’t care how much it cost, then this is the place for you! If money is an issue, then go to Target or Costco. But if you want «green» products, organic pet clothes, and treats that look like grade A bakery pastries, then this is the place for you!
I love my dog, but I do not like to spend a lot of money on him. So my four stars are going towards the self-​serve baths that Dogma offers. I don’t like to mess up my bathroom with wet dog smell and I am grateful that I can bring my dog here and clean him up nicely. You can buy their shampoo, but I would advise bringing your own so that you don’t have to pay more on shampoo for your dog than you would on your own hair. They provide the aprons, towels, and blow dryers for you to use. After the bath, their staff cleans up your mess. For $ 15, it’s not bad. Not bad at all!

I’ll never be taken advantage of there again. This is the most horridly overpriced place I’ve ever been to purchase supplies for my dog. Weewee pads for $ 30? FIFTEEN dollars for a very poor nail trim (a procedure that took less than five minutes because the groomer was in a rush)???
Ugh. I love Canton, but SERIOUSLY guys, this ain’t Manhattan. Can’t wait to see what happens when the Target opens next door…

Dogma is a great pet store, full of high-​quality products and knowledgeable staff. They even have a self-​service bathing area. The shop is only 2 blocks from the Canton Dog Park, extremely convenient after a muddy play session at the park.
My one complaint is that the shop is extremely expensive, particularly the non-​food items (i.e. collars/​leashes/​toys/​bowls). The self-​service baths are $ 15, and the shop does not provide shampoo — you must b.y.o. I couldn’t help but find it a little stingy. However, since it was my first time taking Ruby for a bath and I didn’t know the policy, I was really impressed that the staff found me a bottle in the back to use so I didn’t have to buy one. They mentioned that many customers forget their bottles of shampoo and never come back for them. I think a great win-​win solution would be a shampoo share bar, where you can leave some or take some.

Cute but super expensive.

This place is a favorite of my dog Ben! He loves to get groomed here and he likes trying to sneak a treat in the bulk section. They have a huge selection of everything a dog could want. Most of it is on the pricey side, but the grooming is not and they know what they are doing.

I love this pet store. It mainly caters to dogs, but they have a small selection of in-​store cat foods and toys. Mostly Wellness and Nature’s Variety brands of dry cat food are available. There is quality pet grooming tools for cats and dogs, as well as table full of interesting pet-​related literature. My favorite is the dog or cat manuals that read as though your pet is an electronic appliance. Very funny.
After the pet food wheat gluten scare of a couple years ago, Virginia at Dogma helped me find a holistic brand that my cat would actually eat (he is very picky). Virginia ordered a variety of brands for me to try, free of charge. When I found one to my cat’s liking, she ordered for me a few cases. I’ve been ordering through her ever since.
The store is quite classy and their items are unique. Those with disposable incomes and the urge to spoil their pets, this is your pet store. The pet food, being more specialty, is a bit more expensive. It simply depends on what brand you prefer. In my case, I buy Nature’s Variety Homestyle Prairie in bulk, usually three cases of 24 cans. It’s roughly $ 110 and last three months. I used to spend about the same when I was buying Friskies or Fancy Feast, but now my cat is much healthier.

This store is really cute, but kind of expensive. I go there when I want cute things for my dogs that I can’t find at petsmart or petco. They also have a lot of specialty food.
I also like that they have sweaters and coats for larger dogs, which chain stores don’t always carry. Great little baked treats, as well (my dog can’t get enough of the big two-​layer peanut butter bones)!

This place also has a wide range of pet services from full service grooming to no hassle self washing stations (you bring the soap and they do all the cleaning up after wards).
This store is the result of an increased number of people in the neighborhood who have more disposable income pampering their pets. It’s a cute store but be aware that their prices typically run a little higher than a place like Petco. I don’t mind b/​c it is close to home and it is a small, local business so I feel better about supporting a store like that over Petco.
In addition to having items and services similar to its competition, this location also has «Yappy Hours» (how cute) where owners/​dogs can mingle.
