The food ain’t bad. But it’s not worth all the interaction with the high-maintenance hipster staff. It takes forever and a lot of patience and unnecessary groveling. It’s only doable if I’m desperate, call in the order and send a millennial to pick it up. And please don’t do the Thundersauce; you’ll hate yourself and everything else about the rest of your day. If you make this mistake, wash it down with carrot cake. Carrot cake fixes everything.

I work downtown and enjoy coming here for a quiet lunch. I generally order the Austin club on wheat with Ruffles and Pepsi(hard to find). Almost any time of day there is a line but multiple friendly faces and it moves at a decent pace. You can also call ahead. Their subs taste better than cold subs anywhere else I’ve been.

These guys rock! I have eaten at Thundercloud for over 20 years now. always happy. Today me and a co worker stopped in to grab a sandwich to split and a bag of chips. I was starving! and stoked when we left the store. We ran across the street and when we were getting into the truck I dropped my sandwich and it spilled all over the ground … the horror! :) … 1st world problems. anyway I actually picked it up and almost ate it anyway. Instead I said screw it Im going back to buy another sandwich. When they finished making the sandwich and we had a couple laughs about the mishap they said tell you what NOCHARGE! Nice. Good Karma to TCloud on Riverside. Home of Free Sandwiches!

We were in Austin for a fun day out and a friend recommended Thundercloud for lunch. We drove over there and went inside. They weren’t very packed and service was fast and terrific. I got the turkey club and it was very good(although I wished I could have asked for it to be toasted)!! Nevertheless it was a pleasant experience and will go there again!

The thunder sauce is not good, the salads are lame and I rather be at subway! Not a big fan. Let’s redo the space… it looks dingy!

I’ve found that if you say you’re allergic to onions, they will remember to leave them out. I forgot to lie this time and I ended up with them. But don’t let this stop you! As always, super helpful staff and great fresh food. The bathroom needed help and a good bleach bath. Smell was bad so I didn’t use it. Hince the 4 stars. Definitely try the carrot cake made fresh from a local. Potato salad is great too. I love going here and getting the club, large, double meat. Last me all day and happy to eat healthy.

This Austin original is my go to spot for sandwiches. It’s always fresh and made to order. The staff is cool and very informative, letting you know weekly specials. The cost of all menu items is far less than you’ll pay at other sandwich shops. I’ve never had a bad sandwich as long as I’ve been coming. So next time you want something fresh and not greasy or fried… Give Thundercloud a try, you’ll be happy you did.

I’m from Houston and we don’t have one of these so when I saw it I had to try it. This place is great. It’s laid back and has a good feel to it. The subs are awesome I had the Austin club and loved it. The potato salad was awesome, this place is just great. Highly recommend, if you like subs that is.

This is my favorite Thundercloud Sub store, my go-to shop a few days a week. And the reason why it’s my go-to place and gets a perfect 5-star score is solely due to the consistent execution, quality sandwiches, and very friendly customer service by Ernie. It’s all about The Dude, and in this case The Dude Ernie makes the best damn subs hands down. I caught onto the Thundercloud buzz about 16 yrs ago, it was simple, tasty with great quality and price. I keep up on their weekly specials, my faves include the NY Italian, Cali Club, Office Favorite, and Nada Chicken. Well, actually, I never discriminate with Thundercloud because I’m a fan of all of their sandwiches. I loved their recent special the Jalapeño Popper as well. This is my favorite store thanks to Ernie, who’s been with Thundercloud since before I discovered them. He’s always smiling, very friendly, remembers my name, and makes me feel at home. Ernie’s sandwiches are so pristine and perfect that I always have to buy 2 of them when he works so I can save one for later. With any other staff I’ll just buy 1, but since I get quality perfection from The Guru himself I’ll opt to load up and save one for later. I always ask for extra onions and lettuce and Ernie obliges with just the right amount. Not too much or too little. Same goes with the pepper and thunder sauce — — he knows his customers well and tailors to their needs — the same time, every time. Excellent consistency of execution — — Ernie never fails. I always observe the staff who make my sandwiches, some work diligently, too fast, or even too slow, and while they all taste good the finished product rarely meets my requests and expectations. With Ernie I consistently get the perfect sandwich along with some friendly conversation, he always makes it a delightful experience here.

Yum yum yum… tired of subway? Go to thundercloud! That’s what I did. Lol I’ve tried their meatball sub. Delish. Had the office sub, very simple… but very good. Reasonable pricing. About 6 bucks for a small sub and chips. Soft bread is important to me, and their wheat bread is very soft and yummy. Friendly staff! Always ask how my days going! Great in and out experience, every during a weekday lunch rush. Definitely going to be a regular!

Despite living here 7 years, I had never been in a Thundercloud because they just looked dingy and i imagined everything covered in that mayonnaise that’s labeled«salad dressing.» Anyway, it is actually kind of like that, but after randomly giving it a try, I’ve become addicted! The chewy wheat bread, salty turkey, and tangy«thunder sauce» keep me coming back. I also get soup instead of chips, and they’ve all been good, especially the potato soup and chili. There are some cons though: –More expensive than a Subway, with about the same quality –Sandwichmakers sometimes have gloves on, sometimes don’t, and sometimes touch their faces, credit cards, pens, etc. –Free refills, but drinks are behind the counter and you have to wave someone down and endure an eye roll to get more tea. Basically no refills during peak lunch hour.

I am only on Austin for a few days but am happy to have found a great sub shop! I had the Turkey sub and it was wonderful! Bread was fresh and the fixings were awesome! Also had the Zesty Lentil soup… Spectacular! May go back for supper.

Small tasteless, cheap subs for the flavor disabled masses here in Austin. The meat is anemic and the bread tastes like supermarket bread. I would eat at any of these hole in the wall places. One day I bought a Jersey Mikes Italian and then just for the hell of it I bought a Jersey Mikes version… I took pictures. Like comparing a Fiat to a Mercedes. Mike won Hands down. This place is so bad I actually called and complain to some head honcho at TC. He was a real Dick. Go to Jersey Mikes.

One of my favorite sandwich place to go too. I have always had great service and food. They don’t put much of whatever you ordering, for an example when I get the tune, they put more lettuce and tomatoes that any type of meat you order in your sandwich.

This thunder cloud has a couple rude staff members &3 lines instead of 1. So you oght wait longer than other depends how much the person in front of you is ordering! No common courtesy! ONELINEONELINE it’s simple

Okay so I liked the sandwich – what I DIDNOT like was the fact I can’t watch them make my sandwich! maybe without the tall counters i would have caught my guy making it with white bread instead of the wheat bread I had asked for~besides that point though: I noticed a guy running the cash register one minute, touch his eye, then proceed to make a sandwich all without gloves! Soon I realized in shock no one in the place was wearing gloves! Now I know behind the scenes at restaurants it is probably unsanitary conditions but I’d rather say ignorance is bliss here =\ I don’t think I will be a returning customer. I just don’t want to ingest strangers germs.

Need a quick sandwich fix with flare? This is a great spot with excellent service to match a satisfyingly great sandwich. I was in Austin recently and hunger struck without much time to take a break. Thundercloud came to the rescue! Obviously, being an OKC Thunder fan, the signage struck my fancy and struck me in. Talk about variety –they know how to build any kind of sub! I had a California Chicken sub on wheat and some Sun Chips and ate every singly bite of the freshness. The chicken was cooked well and had great flavor. Inside is quarky cool and they were playing 90’s hits when I came in –bonus points! We sat in a booth and enjoyed our quick bite with still some unique flare in the ambiance!

I believe it was my sister that first got me hooked on Thundercloud Turkey Subs and I can not imagine a day before that! I love that there are Thunderclouds all over Austin, so if I’m ever out and about and need a default lunch, this is my go-to spot! It’s local and so Austin. I usually frequent this particular location, since it’s close to work. I can walk there and you can call in an order a head of time, if you’re in a rush. 2 things I love the most, walking + efficiency! The workers at this location are the best. Not just because I go there all the time, so they always grab my order the minute they see me walking in. They’re always friendly and always seem like they love the rush of lunch time, rather than hate their lives/job. Pretty much any of the sandwiches are going to be good, just depends on what your tastes are. I always go for the turkey sub with everything on it! I also really love their bread here! And the last thing I love about Thundercloud is that they sponsor/hold the 5 mile Turkey Trot every year and it’s a sister tradition for my family. It benefits Caritas of Austin and is always so much fun! It’s the best buffer/excuse for stuffing your face during Thanksgiving!
