The food is good, but a bit on the expensive side. The $ 3 mushroom, caramelized onion and spinach taco comes with flavorful but little ingredients. The migas taco is packed with food but it is also $ 5. For a self serve place that asks for tip, it’s definitely not the cheapest.

Took the pups there for a quick early Sunday dinner. As it’s a food truck with picknick tables it’s great for dogs. I ordered the Jalisco and the Birdie Sanders(buffalo«chicken»). Both were delicious. You can get drinks at the convenience store with the cranky man right next door. Only downside is that tacos are $ 4 or $ 5 bucks, meaning you get 2 tacos with no sides for the price you pay for a whole meal at most other places.

The food here is delicious! The Ranchero Luna is my favorite. The majority of the staff is very nice and helpful, the reason I hesitate to go there is one particular member of their staff who legitimately turns the experience into misery. I called in an order in advance one time, after being a regular customer for a while. I was told there would be a 45 minute wait. I arrived to pick them up and my order somehow fell through the cracks. I understood, as it was a busy day and normally they’re pretty good about it. After another hour passed and I saw people who had ordered way after me getting their food, I went back up to the truck and politely asked what the status of the tacos was. This girl didn’t reply or even acknowledge I had spoken to her, but instead picked up a few random tacos, threw them in a bag, and slid the bag at me without making eye contact. When I got home and my roommates and I opened our tacos, we realized that they were not even remotely close to what we had ordered/paid for — she just gave me whatever was there so I’d leave. Another time while I was waiting for my order the same girl was talking to me laughing about how when an order is inconvenient she charges extra for it because she can. I have also had several occasions in which I pay extra for add-ons and then don’t actually get them. I would rate this place 5 stars on days in which this girl isn’t working, 1 star when she is. I literally drive by to see if she’s there and if she is I’d rather go to Taco Bell.

The wait was crazy, they said 40 minutes but it ended up being like an hour and fifteen or more. They gave us a free taco coupon to make up for it though which is nice. No minus points given, though if there was a half star I’d give 3.5 I ended up really liking the quesadilla and tacos though. The Diablo was genuinely hot. Most of it was spicy, with the Diablo being extra spicy, too much for me even which is rare. I’m not vegan, I don’t think this is nearly as good as taco deli or tyson’s. But it’s still incredibly good, and I would not regret coming here in the future with vegan friends at all.

OHMYTACOGOD! Favorite tacos in a town full of tacos. I love the Del Rey on corn best but have had several great tacos. Can not recommend highly enough! I suggest calling in the order first to reduce wait time. Staff are super nice, too!

These are by far the best tacos, vegan or otherwise, that I have ever eaten in my life. After reading through the menu my girlfriend and I were at a complete loss as to what to order because everything sounded so good. We ended up blindly choosing 4 tacos and all of them were amazing. I really appreciated their chorizo, which added a lot to their tacos. Just give it a try; I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I’ll keep this short and sweet: I cheated on The Vegan Nom with another truck during my most recent visit to Austin. It was a mistake. I’ll never do it again. This spot is *hands down* my favourite place to get vegan(especially breakfast-style) tacos in town. Making my way to Oklahoma for our next tour date and I am drowning in my regret. WhhHhyyYyyyYyyyy

I don’t like the word«nom» so I almost didn’t go here. I do understand that this is a personal thing and pretty dumb. Man, am I glad we went. Some of the best food in Austin — that includes food trucks, fine dining, vegan, vegetarian, meat, BBQ, everything. There are so many tacos that you might want to go a few dozen times to really get a feel for everything. Whatever you do, split the nachos with who(m)ever you’re with. They’re incredible but they’ll fill you up so split them and get tacos!!! I haven’t had an issue with waiting like other reviews. Normally takes about 10 – 12 minutes for the food. I guess if it’s super busy it’ll take longer. I mean, it is a truck. Oh, and the sauces are great. The green sauce they have out front — perfect.

I am not a vegan or even a vegetarian so I was a bit skeptical that I would love these tacos, but daaaaaamn they were amazing. I ordered several items on the menu(don’t judge me) and I loved every single one… you won’t even notice there isn’t any meat! As for the customer service my experience was really good… mostly because when I asked for beer they pointed me to the convenience store and said they would give me a cup so I could have a beverage with my taco. I will most definitely be returning

If this were a 6-star scale is give The Vegan Nom 5 stars just because I was so annoyed that their name in no way conveyed just how awesome this place is. I was in Austin for 4 days and I checked out several vegan eateries, but this place was WAY down on my list because I just couldn’t see how a place with a name like«The Vegan Nom» could be… well, could be so frickin’ fantastic. So, on my last day in Austin I finally made my way to their spot. I ran through the normal noob questions I heard repeated by the other tourists who ordered after I did and the woman at the window was somehow able to pretend as though she was being subjected to these questions for the first time. With a smile and friendly demeanor she guided me through the various options. The result was nothing short of amazing. [OK, maybe this last bit was a little over the top, but the food here rocks!] In the end, I was studded and happy, yet pissed that my snobbery kept me from trying this palace sooner. The next time I’m in ATX this will be my first stop.

The vegan nom never disappoints in the area of Austin noms. A couple of my favorites: the vegan queso and chips, bomb nachos, and mud dip. In all honesty, I haven’t had a bad dish in my 5 – 6 visits here. The only con that I have a slight issue with is timing. I don’t recommend a stop to the vegan nom if you are in any sort of a time crunch. The wait has always been over 30 minutes. On a nice day though, it’s perfect timing for copious amounts of human interaction :)

I just powered down a Del Rey and a Ranchera Luna. Holy flavor bomb! The Del Rey was the best«fish taco» I’ve ever had. Super crunchy, perfectly limey, and ever so filling. The Ranchera Luna was a little mushier than I anticipated, but definitely a welcome addition to my pie hole. I will definitely need to try it again with some tempeh bacon to add a little extra texture to the mix. I went with the flour tortillas on both and they did not disappoint. Paper thin and perfectly chewy. My buddy scored 2 #4 breakfast tacos. By far the tastiest vegan chorizo I’ve had(and I make a mean veggie chorizo). Kudos to the staff. They are workhorses and obviously take quality very seriously. Many thanks to the tattooed gent who was both welcoming and didn’t punch me in the throat when I clumsily spilled flavorful Nom jizz all over the place(sorry man, can’t take me anywhere). Speaking of Nom jizz… that Chipotle magic sauce and the Verde awesomesauce were definitely the best non-salsa taco dressin’ accoutrements I’ve had at a Vegan spot. My face is a very happy place. Thank you!

Vegan Nom in North Loop. A reale(I like their reale taco so much this is how I spell reale now) arteest. The new breakfast taco with sweet potato hash browns. The fish one. The chicken one. The fried avocado one. A reale experience. And the spicy garlic sauce… For some reason my wires get crossed and I imagine myself in the shower massaging it into my scalp like in those herbal essence shampoo commercials. I don’t just want to eat it, I want to bathe in it. Swim in it(slow breast stroke). Have a playful water fight with it while washing the car with it.

As a former Austinite visiting again Austin recently as a vegan(I was vegetarian before), I knew I would have to check out the Vegan Nom for their Migas tacos and a few other vegan«Tex mex» options unavailable in the northwest. My family of five ate their with a friend at one of their patio tables. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were very cool and proud of what they do. There is a convenience store next door to the truck if you want a beer.

The vegan nom is undoubtably, one of the best, food trucks I’ve had the pleasure of dining in. Their fish tacos were superb and for 1⁄3 of the price of the last vegan fish tacos, I’ve had which was in Philly, I cannot complain. It’s also an excellent choice if you’re craving some faux meats in your tacos(umm did I just say that). So if your in Austin, don’t bypass the vegan nom, it is worth the trip, calories, and the wait.

Vegan Nom makes delicious vegan tacos that everyone can enjoy. The staff is friendly. The menu is great. They do, however have some issues that they need to resolve. Menu: The menu is expansive, flexible and yummy. Anyone, vegan or otherwise would enjoy the food here. Price: High for what you get. I feel satisfied with two tacos which runs about $ 9 plus tip. Figure about $ 20 for 4 tacos with tip and no beverage. Hygiene: The employees appears to wear the same pair of gloves all day and they touch everything with those gloves. The gloves get little holes in them and fill up with food debris. It’s pretty disgusting. No hair or beard nets. Filthy fingernails. The employees look like they are cooking at home(or at Burning Man), not for the public. I have received tacos containing hair on two separate occasions. This is a problem for me. I visit once or twice a month with my husband(who doesn’t care), each time hoping they have made improvements in this area. Although I love the tacos, I doubt I will return. I have seen too much. My husband has compromised immunity, so I don’t really think he should eat here either until they improve upon personal hygiene and safe food handling. Time: It takes on average 25 – 40 minutes to get a taco on a slow day. Meanwhile I sit next to traffic, with the flies and garbage smells, watching the staff not wash their hands. Consistency and accuracy: I have ordered tacos here on maybe 15 – 20 occasions and they messed up the order in one or more ways all but one or two times(I never complained and just ate it because I didn’t want to wait another half hour to eat). Even when the tacos are made to order, I never really know what I’m going to get, because they make them different every time. Time: They are only open until 4pm. This isn’t a deal-breaker. The deal-breaker for me is hygiene related. If they could get it together with regard to cleanliness and proper food handling, I would let the other issues slide. I’m vegan, and I loves me some tacos. I would love to continue to support Vegan Nom, but they need to get it together.

My friend suggested that we go to Vegan Nom… when she first mentioned the place, I thought it was a vegan Viet restaurant, Veganam.lol. it turns out the Nom was this type of Nom: nom nom nom… lol I’ll give them that. Vegan tacos albeit tasty. Being a meat eater, I guess I was looking for meat alternatives in my tacos. I ordered the Three Amigos and the Gracias Madre… they ended up being very similar in taste. I couldn’t tell the difference… I should’ve ordered something different. The Three Amigos was made with vegan country sausage, a tofu scramble and vegan cheddar. The Gracias Madre was made with vegan chorizo, tofu scramble and vegan pepperjack cheese. I also tried the Bomb Nachos… I liked that the best… yes, it was the bombdotcom… lol I don’t know what were in these two tacos but I was full for the entire day… we at at like noon, and even by dinnertime, I was still full. This is a food truck, not a brick and mortar… luckily for us, during our visit, it was an extremely gorgeous day and we ended up eating it by the nearby seating area, I think that belonged to this food truck…

So is this place back on North Loop or what? I have no idea. Sometimes when I wanted Vegan Nom at Buzz Mill they werent there or werent open. What the hell is going on? Major inconsistency with hours of operation/location. As far as the food, its good and you should eat it. The service is cool too. Some of the items are time consuming, maybe you can call in your order in advance???

So far my experiences here have been hit or miss, but the hits have been good enough that I will keep trying different menu items. The queso is good. Not my absolute favorite vegan queso option in town, but pretty tasty. So far my favorite taco is the Del Rey, but the Maple Miso Sweet Potato was pretty good too. Occasionally the filling can be very greasy and I think some of their combinations could be a little better thought out. One of the things I love about tacos in general is that the filling has so many different tastes and textures, but some of the tacos at The Vegan Nom have the same soft texture so it just kind of tastes like a mouth full of mush. I think if that added more variety in textures in their fillings I would give it the full 5 stars.

I would love to give these guys more stars solely based on the delish factor, but I am basing this review on the business as a whole. Although the food is indeed quite satisfying, I personally see more cons than pros. A) their produce is not fresh. I was very disappointed to see bags of Fresh Choice mixed greens and spinach, although I must admit I have never questioned the quality of their product according to taste. B) The service is extremely slow. I can sympathize with being in the weeds at times and having a small area to work with, but I shouldn’t have to wait a half hour plus at a food trailer to get one or two tacos. I would be more understanding if it happened occasionally, but this has been the case every time I’ve come(3 times). Lastly, the staff is not very friendly, and when you’re becoming hangry, it’s just not something that sits well. I don’t think I’ll be coming back, unfortunately.

Their breakfast tacos are THEBOMB. I always get the tofu scramble + tempeh bacon + potatoes and then I load on that creamy chipotle garlic sauce. I know I should try their other options, but it’s so hard to stray from that delicious combo. We generally try to go as early in the morning as possible though, because once the rush hits, it’s basically impossible to wait less than a half hour for a taco(more like 45 mins, let’s be real.) One time we thought we were super smart and called in an order at about 10:30 on a Saturday, and when we arrived at the time they told us our order would be ready, we STILL had to wait an extra 20 mins. So be prepared to wait OR wake up really early. Honestly, they’re worth it though!

I pass by here at least twice a day to and from work, sometimes more, and I’ve never stopped. Now I almost regret swinging by on Saturday morning because now I want to stop every time!!! I ordered the #1(tofu scramble with seitan bacon) and the Oktoberfest special(sweet potato hash brown, tofu scramble, caramelized onions, and avocado). Unfortunately they were out of avocado, which I found odd since it’s a staple in many of their tacos. As I waited for my order, the delicious smells wafted from the trailer. Oh wow, my mouth started watering! It took quite a bit of time for my order to come out, even though there was only one party of three in front of me. I took the tacos home and first ate the #1. I had houseguests, so I chatted with them for about 30 minutes before I ate. I was afraid the taco would be cold and mushy, but no! It stood firm and was still hot in the foil wrapper. The flavors were great! It was a pretty filling taco, so I saved the other for later. The Oktoberfest was incredible, the caramelized onions gave it a nice grilled flavor in contrast to the sweet potato. The salsas were also very flavorful and added some zing. Taking off one star for the lack of avocado. The wait wait time also seemed a little too long for two tacos, although there were only two people working in a tight space and I’m glad everything was freshly made to order.

So, I kinda hate going to vegan places in Austin. Not because I hate vegans or vegan food, ‘cuz I at very least like the latter, but because they’re inevitably grade-inflated to all shit, because vegetarians like to keep veg places in business, and hence assiduously overrate them. So I honestly have very little idea of what I’m getting until I actually order, and thus the power of Unilocal is effectively blunted. So, there’s nothing wrong with the Vegan Nom, and they make nice use of their space, with multiple umbrellas at every table and a guitar player on our Saturday afternoon visit. It was a busy day, so a 15-minute wait time seemed reasonable and appropriate. But neither the tacos nor the sauces(an avocado and a chipotle) were really all that. I got one $ 3 bean and vegan chorizo taco and one $ 5 Del Ray, much like something Torchy’s might make except(of course) with vegan fish. The former was okay but forgettable, the second one pretty good if a little pricey. The missus was treated similarly by the Del Frisco and one of the other breakfast entries. If you’ve got a bigger appetite, you also might need three of these, though, and that’s getting a bit expensive for a taco truck. The funny thing is that Taco Joint, which is about the same distance from me, makes better veggie food despite not being a vegetarian restaurant, with excellent bean and soy sausage and bean and potato offerings – bigger, cheaper, served on fresher tortillas, and with a wider variety of excellent sauces. Next time, I’ll just do that instead.

My favorite vegan place in Austin. The Del Rey taco is their best. That is a must-eat when in Austin. The Del Frisco is a nice ode to the traditional Taco Bell taco. It does have un-melted cheddar Daiya which I’m not a huge fan of, but it still pretty good. Grilled Avocado Reale was a little too spicy for me. The Three Amigos Locos makes a good breakfast/brunch option. By and large, I love what Vegan Nom does but I would probably just get a couple of Del Rays if I was fortunate enough to return.

A nice lovely little Vegan food truck located near a gas station, a vintage clothing store, and a sex shop. The menu is composed of many great tex-mex items but with no meat and packed with lots of veggies. I happen to get«The bomb Nachos» which have a new wonderful flavor in every bite. As a non-vegan myself I enjoyed this restaurant very much because of the nice authentic flavor it gives to people.

All vegan taco truck! My favorites are the Three Amigos(tofu scramble, vegan sausage, and vegan cheddar), the tempeh bacon and tofu scramble breakfast taco, and the Vegan Del Rey(lemon pepper mock fish with cabbage, avocado, and cilantro-lime crema)! Cons: VERY limited parking, cash only, VERY limited seating(I’d take it to go), can take a while!

Vegfest 2015: $ 10 for a pair of tacos. I daresay these are the most expensive tacos I’ve ever eaten. Torchy’s tacos are cheaper and MUCH larger, as well as much more delicious. These were… A way for the vegan nom to increase their profit margin. The black bean and avocado was black beans and two slices of avocado. For $ 5. No tomato, lettuce, cabbage, or sauce. The migas was some kind of scramble with chips. Again, not even a scattering of produce to justify $ 5 per taco. In addition to the half hour wait for the limited veg fest menu, I’ll have to recommend that you pass this place by. My one previous visit also required a VERY lengthy wait for a taco — over 30 minutes. I just can’t.

We had a long list of vegan places to go in Austin and only 4 and a half days to see them all. I knew we wouldn’t get through them all and we had to prioritize. We went to Vegan Nom TWICE. It was that good. Here’s a list of tacos I ate and shared: The Del Frisco was like a conventional Americanized taco: crispy corn shell, base of ground«beef», layer of chopped tomatoes, lettuce and onions, and cold cheddar cheese(Daiya in this case) on top. Nom added a special sauce to it that made it extra yummy. The Del Ray is their version of a fish taco and it’s fantastic. I loved the sauce on top, and the generous portion of avocado, the tasty fried«fish», fresh cabbage, and most of all I adored the fluffy toasted soft wheat tortilla. We ordered this taco on both trips because it was exceptional. The Grilled Avocado Reale had a wonderful taste that was quickly overtaken by spice level. I couldn’t really handle the spice but I liked the taco and loved the avocados and sprouts. The Three Amigos Locos was a really, really yummy tofu scramble breakfast taco. The queso and chips was good with a nice spice level, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. I would, however, order just about all the tacos on the menu. This place does tacos right! The people working the taco stand were some of the nicest we’ve met on our trip in Austin. We ended up chatting with a very nice couple at the picnic tables as well. Such a great atmosphere here!
