My husband and I really love the food at Texican Café. They have a great variety of choices. There is alot of seating for large groups. Our server, Beto, was very helpful, friendly and courteous. He also was very attentive, making sure we had what we needed and wanted. We would highly recommend Texican Café and make sure you ask for Beto.

Best not to go when it is rainy/humid outside. The old smelly carpet is at it’s worst then. The food is average. The staff is usually friendly. Just wish the place was cleaner.

This location has great service and warm atmosphere. We have been eating here for years and have never had anything to complain about. Warning though, if you don’t get there early on popular nights, expect to wait. They do have benches out front to sit while you wait, which is nice. We never eat the same dishes, always switching it up and have never been disappointed.

The Monday night special at Texican is 99 cent tacos — and they are delicious! Crispy and soft, beef and chicken, and they even had a vegetarian option available. It’s the perfect place to get our large family together for an awesome meal while not straining the budget. The flight of margaritas was also reasonably priced and a great way to sample lots of yummy flavors. Texican remains this family’s favorite choice in South Austin!

We went here with my aunt because it’s one of her regulars. She suggested the Cabrito. I’ve never had goat before but I’m always willing to try something new. Man did she steer us in the right direction. Everything including the Cabrito was excellent. I would definetly recommend anyone give this place a try. I don’t think you’ll be dissapointed.

Careful what you eat at this place. Free diarrhea next day. It depends how strong your body could digest so much cheap ingredients. 100% high Cholesterol. I give 5 stars to the service… Only. Well, I have tried several if their dishes, lots of them taste great but Fsjitas are delicious because they add so much MONOSODICGLUTAMATE, bad. They should care ja st a bit about the quality of the ingredients.

My girlfriend has been craving cabrito for the last several months. She also likes surprises. So I Googled the best cabrito in Austin. Several rave reviews were of the grilled cabrito at Texican Café. So Saturday night we hit the road and drive the 40 minutes to see if it was as good as the reviews I read. Started with a house margarita on the rocks(her) and a frozen margarita for me. Generous portions, but not so much alcohol you need to worry. We had the small ones, not the grande ones. I ordered the San Antonio enchiladas. I am pretty picky about my enchiladas and these didn’t disappoint. The basic enchilada was really good, but instead of a typical meat sauce on them, they used carne guisada(big chunks) and the gravy from the carne. I have never tried this combo before and it was really good. I forgot to order onions on my enchiladas, but these were very tasty without the traditional onions. Typical rice and beans were good too. My girlfriend said her cabrito was not seasoned heavily which is what she likes. Her words«tasty and tender.» I ate a couple of pieces and agreed that it was good. The cabrito was served with a generous portion of grilled tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers. She didn’t leave anything on the plate but a few bones. The only disappointment was the tres leches cake. We have eaten some very good tres leches around Austin but were disappointed with theirs. Service was good, especially since the place was pretty full when we were there, about 7:45PM. Next time we go back may be to try their breakfast/brunch menu.

Great Tex-Mex food! The restaurant is clean and we received great service. The salsa is homemade and has just the right amount of bite. I had the chicken fajitas which were well priced and tasted great! The flour tortillas were some of the best I have had in a long time… hot, fresh and soft.

Ew. I have tried this place over and over. Not by choice. My husband keeps bringing it home thinking it will be different. We are always disappointed. They usually mess up our order and all the food taste like warmed up frozen meals. Ew.

Great service and great food. Some of the best Mexican cusine, even compared to other local Mexican resturants. In fact, better than places I’ve gone to in AZ. We will be going back soon.

Well I didn’t want to post my displeasure to your page but since my message I sent in private has been ignored… My wife and I have been regulars to your establishment on manchaca for many years and for the first time we were disappointed in the quality of the food. It started with my wife’s drink you all served here in a shaker because you ran out of glasses(your a restaurant and bar), then came out nachos which tasted like they were made with really old chips, then the tortilla soup I ordered was served Lukewarm at best and to top it off the fried ice cream my girls ordered was ridiculous at best(picture attached) I’m not sure how all of these things went bad on the same night but like they say when it rains it pours. After years of dining here I am not so much upset that we he the one bad night but the ignoring of my complaint has left me questioning if I want to come back.

Texican is always great! The chips and salsa are boss! The enchiladas are very tasty always fresh! The homemade flour tortillas are the best! The drinks; margaritas, Mexican Martinis and draft beers are great. The staff is almost always happy to see you. Texican is great but it does have a musty smell to it! I think they need paint and put down tile floors to get rid of the stench. Other than this they are the best!

We first tried the Texican a couple of years ago. It’s by far one our favorites and long over due a review. Not once have we had a negative experience here. The food, drinks, and service are all amazing. From the hostess to the check it’s a pleasure to support the Texican Café!

We came here and had the fajitas. The service was okay because they were slammed at the bar. They got better after it slowed down. We eat fajitas a lot! We usually go to Santa Rita for fajita Monday because it’s a good deal. But after coming to Texican and having their fajitas, I don’t think we will be going back to Santa Rita. I guess you don’t know any better until you have a direct comparison. Texican’s fajitas were very flavorful. They also have homemade tortillas. Great salsa. And they give a lot of food. So even if you’re paying a little more, it’s worth it.

I am just beginning to discover the way down south area of Austin. I had been to the Texican Café on S. Lamar area, but had no idea there was one in the town of Manchaca. I was already a fan of the other location so I had a feeling I would of this one too and sure enough! I love the variety of margaritas they have to choose from here! You can get a flight and try a bunch of flavors if that is your fancy. I opted for the peach frozen margarita and it was so refreshing and delicious as we sat on the patio on a gorgeous evening. We happened to be here on a Tuesday night, which is half price enchiladas … yeah! Every night of the week is a different special. Look inside the menu for the list of daily specials. The whole table ended up getting different kind of enchiladas. My go to is the San Antonio enchiladas which are cheese enchiladas covered with carne guisada … mmm… they are so good! Texican café is really the only place I have seen something like this and it is divine! I know we had way too many chips, salsa and queso and almost didn’t have room for our dinner but somehow we pulled it off. Our server was great. The patio is awesome! This is a cool tex-mex option down south!

Well let’s start with the good: 1. Decent parking 2. Large dining area 3. Good queso 4. Overall this place had a nice atmosphere Then the mediocre: 1. As another mentioned, the food is about on par with Taco Cabana(which I think is decent for what it is). 2. Our waiter was friendly enough 3. They have a waiting area to sit in while you wait for a table Then the bad: 1. After taking our order, we literally didn’t see our waiter for over 30 minutes, and by then, our water glasses were long empty and we were ready to go. 2. After asking for the check, he took another 10 minutes to bring it(it was obvious he was ignoring us and our $ 20 tab for other more lucrative tables) 3. The cheapest thing on the menu for an entrée was $ 10, and as noted above, I could have gotten just as good at Taco Cabana for about half that 4. We got there and despite a large multi-room dining area with many empty tables, we were told there was a 20 minute wait and that ended up around 35 minutes 5. They allow smoking in their screened in porch dining room and since it’s enclosed, the smoke is heavy; not like actually sitting outside and having it blow away. We were recommended here by some relatives but I’m guessing they must come here mostly for the margaritas which looked huge(but when I did drink that was usually a bad sign as no matter how big the glass, the amount of tequila doesn’t change unless you pay for an extra shot, so it’s likely just a bunch of corn syrup, artificial colors and sour mix with a splash of tequila. Anyway, I doubt we’ll be back. There’s way too many better and/or cheaper places in Austin with more attentive service at that.
