I am not a client, but I stopped by knocked on the door, and asked direction, a very pleasant hairstylist help with directions. She was very nice and helpful. I’d bet dollars to doughnuts, Sonar Beauty will exceed your expectations.

I absolutely love Hanna! I just moved to Austin and was itching to cut my hair. When I get the desire, I have to do it or else it won’t be done for another year! After much research and reading reviews, I found Hanna. She listened to me, made suggestions, and really took her time in making my haircut perfect. I actually believe it was the best haircut I haver had! I so recommend this cute little salon in Austin! You won’t be sorry.

Hanna is amazing. she listened to what i want (which honestly, probably wasn’t very easy. i didn’t know what i wanted!) i showed her a few pics and she ran with it. she did a color/​hilight combo and i couldn’t be happier with the results. i have very long hair and didn’t want length taken off but knew it needed some shaping. she gave me long layers and i haven’t stopped hearing compliments all weekend. thank you hanna!

Hanna saved this new mommas ratty hair! Since having my first child and wearing my hair up for 3 months I knew I needed a new do before I returned to work. I found her on Groupon and gave her a call needing to get in asap as I procrastinated getting my hair done.
She gave a great consultation and took my too dark red hair and lightened it with a new root color and all over highlights. I couldn’t be happier! I would recommend her to anyone and will definitely be returning!

Kristan is fantastic at what she does. That being said, she has a lot of clientele! Get in when you can.

Kristan is an absolute hair color and cut goddess! I got her expertise recommended to me from not just 1, but two of my friends months ago that told me about how great she was and had been meaning to head in to Sonar Beauty for some time (overly grown out ombré = not the cutest).
She was extremely welcoming and sweet, as well as hilarious and honest with me. She listened to my blonde-​haired dreams and gave me the approach of full highlights or an all-​over color and we decided on lots of foils and a cut, keeping my length while going blonder. She was so patient (and professional!) with my long lions-​mane major hair, and you can see straight away that she is really passionate about what she does, her products, and making sure you absolutely LOVE how you look when you leave. If you’ve ever had a stylist cut your hair without chatter or questions or making sure you’re comfortable, you know how frustrating that can be, but Kristan ‘checks in’ the whole time in between awesome conversation (about Beyonce, Austin’s best happy hours, and our hilarious experiences with the Whole30 diet), making sure you love your length and what’s happening to your locks! She actually teaches classes on coloring, so her expertise reputation is well-​deserved and she will happily explain all sorts of color care, knowledge and steps to inquiring minds (like mine). Plus, homegirl got my hair so much brighter and blonder damage-​free while keeping my length (!!!) which truly rules and is nearly unheard of for us blonde addicts.
Seriously– go ahead and book with Sonar Beauty, and see the adorable little styling nook for yourself– but make sure you make plans for after your appointment, because you’re definitely going to want to show off how amazing your hair looks.

I got married and had Sonar Salon and Kristan Humphrey do hair & make up for my mother, 4 bridesmaids, and myself. I regret this decision and I warn other brides to find another salon.
I just got my wedding photos back and although my bridesmaids hair looks acceptable, my entire wedding album is practically ruined by my hair. It honestly looks dirty, looks ratty, and looks NOTHING like the pictures I gave her to mimic for my wedding or bridal shoots. I am shocked at how bad my hair looks. I am including pictures so everyone can understand.
The iconic pictures of first kiss, first dance, the ceremony… all are tarnished by my bad hair and I am so very disappointed I used Sonar Salon… this mistake will be lasting memory in ALL my pictures.
From the front my hair looked ok, even though my part was a bit of a wreck… I mistakenly thought on the day of my wedding that I looked beautiful and my hair was perfect and ALL my pictures would be all that I hoped for… BUT I WAS WRONG. EVERY picture of the side of my hair or back of my hair is nightmare… I mean it looks horrific, and I don’t mean at the end of the wedding, side shots of me at the ceremony are just really really bad.

I loved everything about my experience at Sonar Beauty. Kristan did a beautiful job and I am super picky about my hair. She uses excellent products, and is extremely knowledgable. The prices are excellent, especially for the level of quality service that you receive. And the salon, is just adorable. I can’t imagine wanting to go anywhere else for my hair in the Austin area!

I still try to see Kristan with every opportunity I can. She was my colorist in Dallas, and she did a careful, wonderful job taking me from a brunette to a blonde. She recently helped take me back to a perfect shade of blonde after another colorist didn’t perform so well. I wish I could drive to ATX every 6 weeks to see her! She truly knows the science of color.

This where I go when I want to feel beautiful! Kristan is extremely friendly and makes my hair look fabulous. She is a color expert, I usually go red. She makes my highlights look soft and natural. I have curly hair and she always knows how to style it so it doesn’t poof. She uses all natural hair color products. Sonar Beauty is great for hair cuts, updo’s and make up. This is my go to hair person for all my social occasions. Close to downtown located off of SOCO by St. Edwards.

I absolutely LOVE my hair! Kristen re-​did an ombré I had done months before at another salon. The blonde is bright, the color flows evenly and the tone is perfect. My hair is naturally dark but Kristen really did magic on my hair to get the color exactly the way I wanted and extremely close to the picture I showed her. I will definitely be going back for touch ups and a cut.
Btw…The salon is super cute and love the décor. Kristen was very sweet and really listened to what i wanted. Satisfied and happy customer! :)

Kristan is amazing! She is so sweet and really invested making you look your best. I’ve gone to kristan for hair cuts, makeup, updo’s, and highlights. Every time I have been beyond satisfied. Additionally, kristans prices are very reasonable and she makes the experience super enjoyable. Definitely recommend Kristan over any other stylist in austin.

I have naturally (very) curly hair and even when I go to expensive salons, it is hard to find someone who knows how to properly blow it out straight while leaving some body in it. Kristan is the best I’ve seen– fast, friendly, and reasonably priced! Kristan also puts into my hair an organic (formaldehyde-​free etc) relaxer periodically, and while it doesn’t straighten the hair, I love that it takes the frizz out (especially bad on humid days) and doesn’t have the harsh chemicals the other ones do. You won’t regret going to Kristan– she’s an excellent stylist.

Kristan is great! After working with her for the makeup for my bridal party and myself at my wedding I thought I would give her salon a try. I came in knowing I wanted some kind of hair color, but had I had never colored my hair before so I needed some advice! Kristan was incredibly helpful, and she helped me get some super fun highlights. She also recommended some great hair products that are far superior to my usual grocery-​store generic brand shampoo and conditioner. The pricing is very competitive to other Austin-​area salons, and Kristan is both friendlier and has more experience than many other stylists that I have tried in the area. I will definitely be going back!

So I’ll start by saying I am very particular about my hair. Very, very few people have gotten it right. That might be why I forget/​wait so long to get it done. That is also why I waited a week to post this review. Everyone knows a stylist can make your hair look good, but the real test is the next few days when you have to wash and style it yourself.
I met Kristan through a girl friend of mine and unbeknownst to me, my boyfriend had gone to her a couple times for a haircut. I commented on how good his hair looked after his most recent cut and he said «yes, Kristan did a good job.» Seeing what she did with him and my friend, I scheduled an appointment. When the day came, I arrived at her studio and she sat me down and asked what I was looking for. I already had some ombré that had grown out too much so I was in for more color and a cut. I love love love volume (the bigger the hair, the closer to God), so I requested as many layers as she could do without it looking disconnected or choppy. She asked me some specific questions and we went through pictures on her iPad. Once it seemed like we were on the same page, she started the process. A little over two hours later I was done. By then it was around 8:30 pm and though I thought it looked good, I waited to get my hopes up as I wanted to see it in natural light. As I mentioned previously, I am very critical when it comes to my hair. I paid Kristan and went on my merry way. When I got home, my boyfriend commented that my hair looked good but he knew of my appointment so I thought he was just doing his duty and being a good boyfriend. Over the next couple days, I realized that Kristan HAD done a great job with both the color and cut. The cherry on top was that not only did my bf compliment my hair the day of my appt, but he also said how good it looked two days later after I had blow dried and fixed it myself.
Kudos Kristan! Highly recommend this girl! She knows what she’s doing and has 10 years of experience behind her.
Note, she uses both organic and non-​organic color. And whatever line of products she uses smells heavenly, esp. the leave-​in conditioner!

I’ve seen Kristan only twice now, but I highly recommend her for her high level of expertise in both cut and color. On my first appointment with Kristan, she successfully highlighted out 2 years worth of henna which had become dark on my hair, without damage mind you. Not only that, but she fixed a bad cut from another stylist I’d seen just 2 wks prior (someone whom I’d seen numerous times, mind you). On my second visit, Kristan made recommendations for my color that she felt would help with my skin tone, and keep the gnarly premature gray under wraps. She gave me a beautiful combination of reds and blondes using her TOP NOTCH organic color by Milkshake from Italy. I haven’t been this pleased with my hair in a while… if you’re struggling with getting it right with your hair cut or color, I recommend booking an appt with Kristan. Her true expertise and friendly vibe is a rare find.
